Cracow is a high-grade; low-tonnage underground gold mine located approximately 500 km north-west of Brisbane in Central Queensland. It is a steeply dipping, narrow vein, epithermal gold and silver deposit that is accessed via a decline from surface. Cracow is owned by joint venture between Newcrest Mining (70 per cent) and Sedimentary Holdings (30 per cent). The orebodies are 5 m wide on average and the ore is extracted via sublevel open bench stoping. Stopes are extracted to a strike of approximately 25 m before being backfilled with waste. Prior to the introduction of electronics, the mine would remove a small amount of the previous backfill out to create a void, and then begin blasting two to three rings at a time, with the ore being extracted between each blast. This method caused the ore to be blasted onto the waste backfill resulting in dilution of the high-grade ore. It also meant that the extraction of each stope took a number of weeks and numerous blasting events. In the fourth quarter of 2005, the mine struck a geotechnically sensitive stope, where all 20 rings had to be extracted in a single shot or risk possible geotechnical problems that could sterilise the ore. Due to the limitations of NONEL« delay detonators the mine could not fire all the rings in a single shot and needed to use an electronic detonator system to extract the stope. Some unexpected benefits to the mine were increased fragmentation, reduced vibrations, reduced dilution, improved efficiency and improved hanging wall and footwall conditions. After the success of this first electronic shot, the mine has since moved to firing all their stopes with electronic detonators. With electronics the mine has been able to fire much larger blasts, and has in fact moved to firing their blasts in the opposite direction, firing towards the draw point instead of into the waste backfill, thus reducing ore dilution.

High-purity tellurium oJ semiconductor grade may be prepared by a combination of electrowinning from tellurium oxide, electrorefining and controlled atmosphere melting, as detailed in the paper. SEMICONDUCTOR devices such as transistors and rectifiers depend upon extremely pure forms of silicon, germanium, and selenium. Although tellurium is chemically related to these elements, it has not been studied as a semiconductor because commercial forms are too impure. Highly purified tellurium would be an interesting starting point for a study of its solid-state characteristics. Tellurium shows a greater electrical conductivity in the direction of the helices or chains forming the crystals than at right angles to the chains, and thus is a semiconductor. Unlike selenium, the conductivity is only slightly increased by exposure to light. Impurities such as Ag, Cu, Au, Fe, Sn, As, Sb, Bi, Br, and I provide accepters and make extrinsic tellurium of the P type. So far, however, no elements have been found which, when introduced, would act as donors. Small amounts of tellurium dioxide enormously increase the thermoelectric power. Many extremely pure metals have been made by electrolytic refining or electrowinning procedures. Tellurium forms compounds in a number of valences, as indicated in Table I. The physical properties given in Table II do not show any unusual conditions which would interfere with the formation of elec- trodes, or the deposition of the metal on a cathode. Tellurium dioxide could be obtained in relatively high purities of 98 pct TeO2 or better at reasonable prices. Tellurium dioxide is soluble in caustic to form tellurites, which are conductive, ionizable, and from which tellurium metal may be deposited at a cathode. Preliminary solubility tests to saturation of tellurium dioxide in approximately 10 pct sodium hydroxide gave the results of Table III. The temperature range is a practical one for electroplating. "The use of mixed cultures of acidophilus microorganisms that act in different temperature ranges, aims at speeding up the digestion of chalcopyrite, highly refractory sulphide mineral, the major mineral in the flotation concentrate of Caraíba Mining Co., with an attractive processing cost. The concentrate under consideration contains mainly chalcopyrite (CuFeS2) and bornite (Cu5FeS4) with contents of, approximately, 70 and 30%, respectively. It was observed in this study, the performance of consortium of mesophiles, moderate and extreme thermophile microorganisms, in the oxidation of the aforementioned sulphides minerals, evaluating operational parameters such as pH of the leaching solution, the reaction temperature and redox potential, with consequent extraction of 80% of the concentrate copper content within 60 days of bioleaching. Such high copper extraction was achieved in column bioleaching tests.INTRODUCTIONThe solubilization of metals by the application of microorganisms from the mineral ores and the subsequent recovery of metals from solution are referred to as bioleaching (Rohwerder, T et al, 2003). This is an economical method for the recovery of metals from minerals; especially lowgrade ores, overburden, and waste from current mining operations which requires moderate capital investment with operating cost (Watling, 2006).Furthermore, bioleaching is generally more environmentally friendly than conventional metal recovery processes such as concentration and smelting. Those physicochemical metal extraction processes generate sulphur dioxide, a toxic emission that is increasingly the target of regulatory legislation (Stott et al., 2000; Olson et al., 2003). Bioleaching of chalcopyrite is the key industry target. The main problem hindering commercial application of chalcopyrite bioleaching is the slow dissolution rate (Fu et al, 2008).Dissolution of acid-soluble sulphide minerals such as sphalerite, and to a lesser extent chalcopyrite, occurs by a combination of ferric iron and proton attack via the polysulphide pathway (Rohwerder et al., 2003)."

F. M. Lewis—I believe that density recorders are a prerequisite to all well operated ore concentrators. Well designed density instruments are very accurate and give an excellent record of the steadiness of the operation. Controlling the density of a pulp with an instrument, as described by Mr. Bean, is new and the experiences in developing this controller at the American Cyanimid Co.'s Mineral Dressing Laboratory are very interesting and should be extremely helpful to others who are planning on designing or installing controlling density instruments. Instruments for recording the density of the classifier overflow or flotation feed are rather common in ore concentrators, but there are a number of profitable uses for these instruments that are not too well known. Density recorders with bubble tubes submerged to different depth in a classifier pool give an excellent record of the classifier operation. The loading and unloading of the machine, that is so easily masked in the density of the overflow, can be easily recorded if the instrument is installed at some depth in the classifier pool. On some occasions, two instruments with bubble tubes at different depths give a more candid picture of the irregularities in the classifier operation. When cleaner machines are operated in closed circuit with roughers, a record of the density of the cleaner tails will indicate the circulating load in the circuit and is very helpful in coordinating different operators, because quite often the circulating load will be increasing for some time before the analyses of the products will change. Density recorders are used to record the variations in the dilution of the underflow from thickening tanks and in at least one plant the instrument controls the underflow.

Horizontal belt filters are typically used for separation of relatively free filtering solids where good post treatment is required. He horizontal belt filter is a continuous filter with an endless cloth supported on a grooved carrier belt. The belt and cloth are driven around two rollers across a series of evacuated suction boxes. The feed suspension is introduced at one end of the filter and deliquored to produce a cake at the other end. The benefits of using horizontal belt filters are good cake washing, continuous and visible processing, fully automatic operation, flexibility, high capacity and relative high speeds of operation. While hard rock tunnel boring machines (TBMs) have an established track record in the tunnelling industry, accurate estimation of TBM performance for each specific project remains critical. Machine performance prediction is required to assist planning activities, including costing and schedule preparation, machine specification and effective planning of maintenance and repairs. In addition, monitoring machine performance during the construction period is required to assess and manage excavation progress, and to achieve optimal advance rates based on specific geotechnical conditions exposed during excavation. TBM performance analysis can also contribute to the development of more accurate performance prediction models for future applications. Rock mass characteristics play a dominant role in machine performance. This paper offers a review of the impact of rock mass characteristics on TBM penetration rates for two specific tunnelling projects. A discussion is provided on the results of statistical analysis of available field data, including geological back mapping, rock properties and measured rates of penetration (ROP). The analysis offers a comparison of the achieved and predicted ROPs to provide a better understanding of the influence of rock mass properties on the performance of hard rock TBMs. A new rock mass adjustment factor is introduced to enhance the accuracy of an existing prognosis model for use in jointed rock masses.

The disposal of phosphatic clays has presented a problem to the phosphate industry since the mining of phosphate rock first began in Polk County. As the flotation process was introduced in the late 1920's the problem of clay disposal was increased significantly since clay is present in proportionally greater quantities in reserves yielding flotation concentrates. Because of their physical character and the tremendous surface area per unit volume, these clays have the characteristic of retaining large volumes of water as they are slurried during processing. The disposal of clay and the recovery of a portion of the water require settling areas with a capacity ranging up to 2 cu ft for each cubic foot of phosphate matrix mined. According to a recent study by the Bureau of Mines, the average cost for disposal of these wastes is 24.5[c] per ton of product. This is a major cost of phosphate rock production.

A comprehensive approach to the development and organization of an expert system designed to assist electricians in diagnosing electrical faults in mining machinery is discussed. The system includes diagnostic, reference, and tutorial programs. The diagnostic portion of the system is based on a causal-reasoning approach, which is used to establish a hierarchy of symptoms and the subsequent production rules for identifying component-level failures in the motor-control circuit of a shuttle car. With this approach, conclusions are developed directly from knowledge of the circuit and its behavior (in both working and failure modes) based on first principles, rather than the heuristics of a domain expert. The symptoms and their hierarchal structure are formulated by creating "what if' scenarios and performing a qualitative circuit analysis for each fault. Techniques for incorporating interactive graphical displays of the circuit schematic into the diagnostic portion of the system are also presented. Supportive computer programs that provide reference material and tutorials on the circuit are also described.

Spurred by recent forecasts of greatly increased demands for uranium by 1980 and beyond, interest is once again focusing on America's western uranium deposits. One of the principal producers in this area is the Gas Hills district in Wyoming, the site of approximately 12% of the known uranium in the U.S., including past production and current reserves. Located on the south flank of the Wind River Basin, the Gas Hills deposits have been recently studied by the Atomic Energy commission for clues to and guides for discovering similar-occurring ores. The ore deposits are confined to a permeable sandstone unit, up to 350 ft thick, at or near the base of the upper Wind River formation of early Eocene age. The uranium occurs in three principal north- south "ore trends," each of which is about six miles long, one mile wide, and separated from each other by approximately three miles (Fig. 1).

Covers on waste rock and tailings remain the primary choice for closure planning where the purpose is to create an environment where water ingress into reactive material can be controlled and/or prevented. In semi-arid and arid environments, dry cover systems are the preferred option with the design intention to absorb rainfall and to prevent deep drainage. Although the average amount of rain typical for semi-arid environments is relatively low and evaporative demand is high, the seasonal and annual distribution may vary greatly. Rocky substrates are often the only choice for the construction of covers due to economic constraints or availability of suitable materials. While the water holding capacity may be suitable for the application of a dry cover design in arid and semi-arid climates, some of these covers bear the risk of preferential water flow when rain events are intensive or occurring at high frequency. The objective of this presentation is to demonstrate the occurrence of preferential flow through rock containing dry cover systems. A regional classification for the applicability of dry covers is attempted to delineate those regions of Australia where the characteristic of the rainfall pattern increases the risk of failure for dry cover designs. This section describes two exploration models currently used in the search for porphyry exploration deposits: the hood and the vertical cylinder. Each has alternate names within industry and in the literature. The hood is also known as the Climax or Henderson and the vertical cylinder has also been called the Mt. Pleasant model. The paper by Hollister (1978, abstract herewith) refers to the vertical cylinder as the zoned model in reference to the horizontal sulfide and silicate zonation evident in and peripheral to the vertical cylinder of molybdenite mineralization. The distinct ore body geometry in each model type necessitates differing drilling and exploration strategies. Drilling for a hood shape is clearly different from drilling for a vertical cylinder type target. The paper by Wallace et al. (1968, abstract herewith) on multiple intrusion and mineralization at Climax, CO, well describes the hood model. That description is supplemented by the paper by Wallace et al. (1978, abstract with Chap. 37) on the geology of the Urad and Henderson deposits. The paper by Hollister (1978, abstract herewith) describes the vertical cylinder model.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION The Granduc mine is situated on the west side of Granduc Mountain in the Leduc River area of north¬west British Columbia about 51 km (32 miles) north¬east of the town of Stewart. Entry is by means of a 16.6-km (10.3-mile) long haulage adit from the concentrator site at Tide Lake. The principal ore mineral is chalcopyrite. Ore mineralization varies from dis¬seminated to irregular semimassive stringers generally associated with highly folded and sheared biotite-rich sections of metasediments. The ore bodies vary in width from 3.6 m (12 ft) to over 18 m (60 ft) in a zone some 800 m (2600 ft) in length dipping at an average of 75° to the west and plunging steeply to the south. Capping varies in thickness from 0 to over 300 m (1000 ft). SELECTION OF MINING METHOD In the early stages of planning the primary require¬ments to be met by the mining method were: (1) suit¬ability to high output and productivity, (2) adaptability to mechanization in order to minimize operating costs, and (3) minimization of the costs and the development period for preproduction. Considering these, the selection of a mining method was narrowed to a choice be¬tween sublevel long-hole stoping or sublevel caving. A method utilizing backfill was ruled out as uneconomical, especially since mill tailings would not be readily available. At the time, the following facts about the ore body were recognized: (1) the average width of the ore body was 12 m (40 ft), (2) 30% of the stoping blocks were in areas of 6 m (20 ft) or less in width; (3) in many cases, ore zones were located in parallel lenses or were irregular in shape; (4) major faults were present in the hanging wall close to the ore, with minor faults within the different ore zones; and (5) the ore itself was lami¬nated with fractures and jointing crossing such bedding planes. Considering these factors, the two stoping meth¬ods were compared. Sublevel Open Stoping The characteristics of sublevel open stoping are: 1) It is generally not used for widths below 6 m (20 ft) since the ratio of waste development increases as level intervals are reduced to insure good control of long-hole drilling. 2) This method is used where ground is relatively competent. Otherwise more pillar support is required, increasing ore losses or mining costs with pillar recovery. 3) The method is not easily adaptable to parallel ore zones separated by relatively narrow waste bands. 4) Close control of pillar and stope design will per¬mit some degree of dilution control. Sublevel Caving Sublevel caving is characterized by the following: 1) The method can be used for a variety of ore widths, recognizing that 3 m (10 ft) in width may be an economical minimum. 2) It is particularly favorable where wall rock is weak. 3) The method has flexibility so that irregular ore bodies or parallel lenses can be mined. 4) The need to leave pillars for support is eliminated 5) Dilution and tonnage recovery are interrelated. With concern about the stability of the hanging wall and the geometry of the ore bodies, there was a growing favor to choose the sublevel caving method. However, this method was relatively new to Canadian mining practice. Teams were sent to Sweden to tour mines using sublevel caving and to study their methods and any extraction and dilution problems. The objective was to develop cost and performance data and ore recovery grades and tonnages for feasibility comparisons. Next, detailed mine plans were developed covering a three-year period using sublevel caving and sublevel open stoping. Extensive analyses of the development and production costs for each method were made. With sublevel caving, ore losses of 10% with a 20% dilution rate were used. The same ore loss was estimated for sublevel open stoping with dilution varying from 11 to 15%. As a result of these studies, the decision was made to use sublevel caving partly because slightly lower op¬erating costs, together with higher productivity, offset the adverse effects of higher dilution; and partly be¬cause, at the start, there would be less risk in being able to handle the ground, and the method offered more flexi¬bility. Open stoping was not ruled out for testing at a later date. It was recognized that some other method of mining would be required for mining the ore extensions below the glacier, where surface subsidence must be avoided. During the operating life of the mine, open stoping was tested in narrow width ore zones and found un¬satisfactory due to wall failure. A cut-and-fill stope, utilizing run-of-mine waste from development, was also operated on a trial basis. A sequence was finally estab¬lished that permitted ground control; however, produc¬tivity needed considerable improvement in order for open stoping to be considered as a sole alternative for mining below the main haulage level. At the termination of operations in June 1978 over 13 000 000 t (14,500,000 st) had been extracted from above the main haulage level at production rates varying from 3270 to 7250 t/d (4000 to 8000 stpd). Sublevel Caving Methods Two basic methods were used, transverse and longi¬tudinal. The transverse method was used mainly in the upper C ore body in widths greater than 18 m (60 ft), and occasionally as an alternative to the longitudinal method in localized areas where strike faulting inter¬fered with normal development. THE RELATION OF THE ENGINEER TO RECONSTRUCTION FIFTY-THIRD MEETING OF BOSTON SECTION The fifty-third meeting of the. Boston Section was held April 28. The speaker of the evening was the new president of the Institute, Mr. Howard V. Winchell, who spoke on "The Relation of the Engineer to Reconstruction." He told of the part engineers had played in the war and paid tribute to Herbert E. Hoover as an example of what engineers can do. He said that engineers are not taking enough interest in politics, although it is badly needed as shown by the evidences of Bolshevism even in America. Conditions have suddenly changed; whereas we formerly borrowed money we are now loaning widely to foreign countries and our investments, abroad have to be protected. A committee is badly needed to investigate and determine the actual conditions. The Government has already been invited to cooperate with the Institute along professional lines and this should lead to closer contact between our Society and the Government. Mr. Winchell then went on to describe some of the mining conditions in Russia. He brought out the point that the rich platinum deposits are exhausted and only the poorer sands remain. The largest copper properties average less than 2 per cent. copper and there are some 4,000,000 tons available in .the Caucasus region near Batum. There are approximately 100,000,000 tons of high-grade manganese ore scattered in small deposits in the eastern Ukraine. There are some copper mines in the East, butt they are almost exhausted. The Baku oil field is the second largest in the world and there is probably oil in Persia. There are also manganese in Siberia and coal veins of enormous thickness.

As in most other parts of the world, the surface coal mining industry in South Africa is introducing emulsion explosives as the primary bulk blasting agent for use in wet borehole conditions where AN/FO cannot be used. Most of the emulsion products presently in use are gassed to provide sensitivity. The intimate mix between the fuel and oxidizer in the emulsion has been shown to produce a highly efficient explosive. However, a major difference between emulsion and the previous slurry products is its relatively low physical strength. This prompted Rand Mines' Duvha Opencast Mine, a major South African Escom power colliery, to conduct test work to illustrate the effect of emulsion physical consistency on blasthole loading. This paper presents the results of test work conducted at Duvha to investigate the problems associated with loading both AN/FO and emulsion in water filled holes, stemming emulsion holes, and in particular, to illustrate the difficulty in correctly introducing a stemming deck into the emulsion column. Time dependent behavior of the loaded emulsion holes is investigated. Velocity of detonation measurements for freshly manufactured emulsion, and for emulsion after loading through water with sleep times of up to 10 days, are presented.

Mzasurements of the surface diffusion coefficients of metals have been made. Diffusion profiles for the Ag-Ag system were obtained by means of a radioactive point source and a precision auto-radiographic technique. The activation energy for silver self diffusion (=8.1 kcal per mole) is lower than that previously reported (-10 kcal per mole) on poly crystalline wire by Nickerson and Parker. The bresent data indicate an effect due to parasitic volume diffusion at temperatures above 500°C. RELATIVELY few measurements have been made of the surface self-diffusion coefficients of metals. Nickerson and arker' measured the diffusion of silver over the surface of poly crystalline wires and estimated that the activation energy was 10.3 kcal per mole. Winegard and chalmers2 carried out measurements on both polycrystalline and single crystal surfaces but did not report a value of the activation energy. They found, however, that at temperatures between 250" and 400°C the diffusion coefficients were on the order of lo-' sq cm per sec and that there was an acceleration of the migration of silver on the polycrystalline sample when a change of surface shape occurred. Winegard and Chalmers used an autoradiographic technique, hereafter designated ARG, and Nickerson and Parker used a surface scanning geiger counter in order to determine the diffusion profiles. More recently, Hackerman and simpson3 measured the surface self-diffusion coefficient of copper at a single temperature (750°C), and the value of the diffusivity (- 10-5 sq cm per sec) is in agreement with that given by jostein from his thermal grooving measurements. This paper reports the results of an investigation of the surface self-diffusion coefficients of silver over a large temperature range and describes the adaptation of autoradiographic (ARG) techniques for the determination of diffusion profiles obtained from a radioactive point source. EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE The experimental procedure is a modification of the method employed by Hackerman and simpson3 in their measurements on copper. A brief description of their technique is as follows: A radioactive needle which sinters to the surface during the diffusion an- neal serves as the source of diffusing atoms. After the diffusion run the needle is removed and the surface is scanned with a shielded counting arrangement. The diffusion profiles reported in this paper were obtained by a modification of the above procedure which employs a precision ARG technique. Previous investigations in this laboratory and elsewhere51B have shown that under carefully controlled developing conditions and by the use of calibration sources a linear relation exists between the concentration of the isotope and the photographic density for values below unity. The use of ARG under these conditions has advantages over the counter scanning method in that cumbersome shielding and requirements for great mechanical precision of the scanner are eliminated. Also the ARG gives a complete picture of the surface which is advantageous in studies of anisotropic diffusion. A recording microdensitometer having a 0.1 p wide slit was employed. At low temperatures the disturbing effects of subsurface radiations are negligible. The diffusion anneals are carried out in the cell shown in Fig. 1. The needle is formed by grinding down a 1.0 mm rod of high-purity silver until a tip of 0.2 mm radius or smaller is formed. This tip is plated withA"' which becomes the source of the diffusing atoms that are detected by ARG. The needle carrier and the crystal holder, Fig. 1 are constructed of quartz and ports are provided in the holder pedestal which allow free vapor circulation ((2.0 oz) and the carrier apron fits snugly over the crystal holder cap, insuring that the needle does not move and scratch the surface. Temperatures are provided by a stabilized tubular furnace which can be quickly positioned around the cell, thus bringing the crystal up to temperature in a time that is short compared to the diffusing times. The diffusion anneals range from 2 hr for the high-temperature samples to about 25 hr for those at the lowest temperature. The possibility of vapor transport of the radioactive metal as a contributing factor in the diffusion profile was investigated in two ways. One method was to suspend the needle directly over a dummy sample, raise the temperature, for periods of time equal to the diffusion times, and then take an auto-radiograph of the surface. Negligible radioactivity appeared. In the second method a thin slot in the crystal face on one side of the source provided a "cong path" for surface diffusion. If evaporation was the primary source of surface atoms the region of radioactivity around the source would be symmetrical. This was not the case. The profile dipped abruptly at the edge of the slot but on the other side of the source the usual diffusion profile appeared.

Using three-dimensional, stress-deformation rate equations for a Bingham plastic, an approximate solution for the laminar flow of drilling mud between the drill pipe and casing is given for the case when the velocity gradients due to axial flow are large compared to velocity gradients due to rotation. INTRODUCTION The fact that drilling mud can be treated, to a first approximation, as a Bingham plastic has been established by several investigators12,3,4,5. A Bingham plastic is a material that is rigid until a certain combination of stresses exceeds a critical value. When the stresses are sufficiently high to initiate flow, the reduced stresses have a constant ratio to the corresponding deformation rates at each point. Prediction of pressure and torque requirements to produce the desired flow of the material have been made by analytical solutions due to Bingham6, Reiner7, and Buckingham8. One part of the present means of calculation that requires clarification is the flow between the drill pipe and casing. Present methods treat the flow resulting from the rotation of the drill pipe separate from the flow produced by the axial pressure gradient. Since the non-linear behavior of a Bingham plastic implies that solutions cannot be superposed, the present analytical investigation was undertaken to obtain a solution to the problem of combined axial and tangential flow. Equations have been proposed for the three-dimensional flow of a Bingham plastic9,10,11 and it has been shown that the proposed equations lead to the usual solutions from the one-dimensional theory". Applying these equations to the flow between two concentric cylinders the problem of axial flow only13 and tangential flow only12 have been solved. In addition to the separate problems of axial and tangential flow between concentric cylinders, the authors have determined the relationship between external torque on the inside cylinder and axial pressure gradient necessary to initiate flow". The solution given in Ref. 14 points out the complexity of the present problem. The problem considered here is the case of simultaneous axial and tangential flow. The axial flow, necessary to keep the drill bit free of removed material, results from the axial pressure gradient. Tangential flow is present since the drill pipe rotates in the hole. The solution given here is valid when the shear stresses in the drilling mud due to rotation are small compared to the shear stresses resulting from the axial flow. This case for laminar flow can be encountered in oilfield drilling. STRESS-DEFORMATION RATE EQUATIONS A detailed derivation of the equations governing the behavior of a Bingham plastic is given in Ref. 10. This section briefly outlines the physical reasoning leading to this three-dimensional formulation of the stress-deforma-tion rate law. Experiments on a certain class of materials have demonstrated the following properties: (1) when a certain combination of the stresses is below a critical value no deformation of the material occurs, (2) to a first approximation this combination of stresses is independent of the hydrostatic pressure (negative average normal stress), (3) if flow occurs the ratio of the reduced stress to the corresponding deformation rate is constant at each point of the flowing material, and (4) incom-pressibility. For the one dimensional case of shear deformation, Bingham6 formulated the governing equation as dxx, = 0 for sxx < to and µdxx = s xx = to for sxx to , . where dxx is the shear deformation rate, sxx the shear stress, to the critical shear stress, and p the slope of the sxx vs dxx curve for dxx > 0. Fig. 1 shows the behavior for pure shear between two parallel plates. Taking into account the physical properties given above and assuming the critical combination of stresses to be measured by the octahedral shear stress, the fol-lowing three-dimensional equations have been proposed.
