La dependencia de los países ricos o desarrollados respecto de los países pobres es cada vez mayor -en tanto los primeros agotan sus abastecimientos requeridos por la industria y dependen de las reservas de minerales de los países pobres. La dependencia también implica que la economía de los Estados Unidos se está volviendo más vulnerable a las fuerzas externas como los pactos colectivos en los países suministradores, huelgas en las minas extranjeras o en la industria naviera. Por ello, los países pobres, dándose cuenta del progreso en el trato de su posición por algunos minerales, negocian en términos más favorables para sus materias primas. En ese sentido, el presente texto describe la dependencia económica de los países desarrollados hacia la materia prima de los países subdesarrollados.

During 1977 and 1978, a comprehensive study was made of the drill-hole data obtained by Urangesellschaft, USA, from their Juniper Ridge, WY, uranium deposits. This included uranium grade data acquisition, application of a variety of mineral deposit modeling techniques, and estimates of minable reserves, which pointed towards a possible production decision.

Leaching manganese-bearing materials with NaOH to remove caustic-soluble silica has been demonstrated as a method for up- grading manganese. Those materials containing opaline varieties of silica respond most readily. Spent leach liquors are regenerated by treatment with lime to precipitate calcium silicate and to reactivate the NaOH for leaching.

Various pyrometallurgical methods for treating ilmenite and zircon concentrates are reviewed. Laboratory experiments using a thermal plasma reactor were performed to evaluate the conversions of ilmenite to TiC or TiC-Fe and zircon to ZrC or ZrC-SiC. Results are examined and possible processing routes are identified.

La geografía del distrito minero de Morococha contiene fallas tectónicas como diversos números de vetas conocidas. En este punto, el objetivo del trabajo busca establecer el número de fallas, calcular su desplazamiento y naturaleza y localizar las porciones no conocidas de las vetas desplazadas por las fallas. Asimismo, se revisa los efectos de mineralización ocurridos en este distrito a través de un mapeo de todas las labores antiguas comprendidas en el área de influencia de las fallas y asi dar una nueva interpretación de los planes geológicos y secciones transversales.
