Preliminary work that used Pittsburgh and Pocahontas No. 3 coal shows that the diffusion coefficient varies with pressure and that the fracture spacing in these two coals is substantially different.

"In this paper a review of the current status in recycling technologies for cathode ray tubes is given for both the glass and phosphors. Particular emphasis is placed on the opportunities for the recovery of the rare earth elements (REE) from the phosphor coatings. This is placed in the market context of alternative virgin sources and some of the advantages and disadvantages for REE waste recovery. Future opportunities are explored and also some experimental detail on a low cost leach system is presented. INTRODUCTIONThe disposal of cathode ray tube (CRT) based colour televisions has accelerated world-wide with the development of high definition flat screen panels. The total number of colour CRT televisions that have been sold in the United States in the mid-20th century is estimated to have been over 2 billion (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, 2007), with high current rates of disposal. It is estimated that of the 20 million televisions annually discarded, 78% are send to landfill (Nnorom, Osibanjo & Ogwuegbu, 2011). However, this easily accessible item of electronics cannot only be turned into a valuable resource using the right recovery procedures, it can also prevent the substantial environmental contamination arising from improper disposal. In this review we focus on previous and current work performed on the recycling of CRT based televisions. Due to the increasing demand for rare earth metals, the main focus will be on the possibilities and challenges of recycling the fluorescent phosphor powders on the CRT’s panel glass.CATHODE RAY TUBE’S GLASS RECYCLINGConventional cathode ray tubes consist of three main parts, the panel, the funnel and the neck (Figure 1). To produce the different colours on the screen, the inside of the panel is coated with a matrix of hundreds of thousands of small phosphor dots. Each dot is one of three types of coloured phosphors, emitting either red, green or blue light. These emit light when excited by a beam of electrons generated by electron guns located in the neck of the CRT. These beams pass through holes in the shadow mask and excite the phosphor coating on the inside of the panel, to give light of variable RGB composition, see Figure 1."

Operating CIP/CIL gold recovery plants in the arid regions of Western Australia face unique challenges due to water and ore quality issues. The presence of cations of Mg, Fe and Cu metals in water supplies and leached sulphide ores can have considerable effect on plant consumption of lime and cyanide, due to pH buffering and complexation effects. Reagent costs are critical to many of these operations. In this paper, computational modelling is used to analyse a number of process options to mitigate such issues. This requires careful consideration of the chemistry of the process system, and the ability to predict accurately the response of speciation and precipitation reactions to changing process conditions. The Mg-Fe-Cu-CN-H20 system is specifically modelled in this application. The Gibbs Free Energy Minimisation thermodynamic framework has been selected to model equilibrium phenomena. Furthermore, this approach has been extended to the process flowsheet level, incorporating multiple unit operations and recycle streams in a steady-state mass balance model. The Gibbs equilibrium composition module of HSC Chemistry software has been successfully integrated into the commercial flowsheeting package SysCAD. Consideration of the Gibbs Energy Minimisation capabilities of other flowsheeting packages has also been given. This approach has been successful in simulating the aqueous process chemistry typical of such plants. It has resulted in a predictive capability where equilibrium states respond appropriately to process changes. Potential cost savings may be identified by examining alternative process conditions to minimise overall reagent consumption.This methodology may be extended to other hydrometallurgical plants where issues of solution ideality, temperature and other equilibrium processes are sufficiently understood.

Large mining companies generally follow the distributed ownership corporate model, with a board of directors responsible for decisions that affect both shareholder value and stakeholders of the company. The board is simultaneously responsible for setting the culture and values of the corporation, which drive performance and priorities. Companies listed on the Johannesburg Securities Exchange (JSE) commit to sustainable development in various ways, either by virtue of implementing the King Code of Governance 2009 (King III) and/or through their own public reporting on social and environmental matters. Many mining companies make public statements regarding their support for environmental stewardship, ethical behaviour, and fair treatment of communities. It is a local, regional, and indeed, global phenomenon that companies fail to deliver on these statements. Research was carried out through the Institute of Directors of Southern Africa in 2007, and followed up in 2012, regarding directors? understanding of sustainable development issues, the relative priorities, what is needed for ?radical change? to effect sustainable development, and what enables or constrains the latter. Pertinent findings of both surveys are presented in this paper, and it is suggested that ?on-the-ground? performance may be indicative of the nature of leadership and decisions in the topmost ranks of the company. The results indicated that environmental concerns fall consistently below social issues. Financial capital ranked most important, and while environmental issues are recognized as being of strategic concern for the long-term, they ranked as being the lowest importance of all ?Five Capitals? (Financial, Manufactured, Social, Human, and Natural). Social capital ranked second lowest, with black economic empowerment being the only high-priority social issue. There is also evidence that certain companies within the mining sector fail to recognize their absolute dependence on natural resources. Much is made in academic and popular literature of the need for a new type of leadership for the radical shift to sustainable development: at company level this implies therefore a new type of director. The research found that only 14 per cent of directors felt that board decisions are consistent with their personal values; while intentions are strong to behave ethically and serve sustainable development, actions to give effect to these intentions lag significantly. Respondents indicated that the top impediments to courageous leadership for sustainable development related to personal issues of maintaining the image of being a director, fear of appearing weak, fear of being a lone voice, and bowing to board-colleague peer pressure.

Anglo American Platinum has adopted a strategy of Best Practice Principles (BPP) for sampling, mass measurement, analysis and metal accounting for more than a decade now. When new plants are designed, the most suitable sampling equipment and sampling protocols are implemented and material flows and plant layouts are designed around sampling strategies. A few years ago, a crushing plant for a high-grade matte stream was commissioned.The design called for the high-grade material to be crushed to 95 per cent passing 2 mm and the design allowed for a single cutter primary Vezin sampler, increments taken from a gravity flowing stream at regular intervals, whilst filling a tanker for the pneumatic offload at our base metal refinery. This was a single point of sampling and analysis that would measure the wanted output from our smelting complex and the input to our refineries. In addition, the design incorporated the functionality to collect increments in an ‘interleaved’ fashion from the Vezin sampler for internal precision checks.The metal accounting strategy for Anglo Platinum is the ongoing measurement of all inputs, outputs and stock levels for all our operations for platinum group metal (PGM) and base metal (BM) content. Included are yearly stocktakes, usually done on 1 February every year, across the smelters and refineries (at least the base metal refinery). A trend was developing in the accounting period immediately following the introduction of the new crushing and sampling facility, whereby the absolute difference between the physical stock and theoretical stock (PGMs predominantly) increased for the two respective sites on an ongoing basis. The smelter (sender) showed an increase in physical stock compared to the theoretical stock and the base metal refinery (receiver) showed that their theoretical stock increased against their physical stock. Because of this anomaly, an additional stocktake was held in September for the period in question and it was confirmed through the physical stock measurement results, that the PGM accounting problem was indeed pointing towards the evaluation of the high-grade matte stream.This paper showcases parts of the process that took place to explain the poor accountabilities for the respective sites. Previous results from the sampler ratification process (of the interleaved sampling design) were analysed again, a physical inspection was carried out on the sampling system again and the sampler performance was monitored (quality control parameters) for the period.From these investigations, it was found that airflows present inside the Vezin introduced the sampling bias and a change in sampling protocol was introduced as well as physical changes to the sampling equipment were made to eliminate the airflow and thus the bias conditions significantly. The accounting period which followed, after a phased upgrading process, showed that the accounting between our smelter and base metal refinery had been restored to within statistical limits (difference between physical and theoretical stock below five per cent relative to theoretical stock).CITATION:Kruger, C J and le Roux, E, 2017. Mineral output and trade in the Central American countries were directly or indirectly affected by the sometimes violent civil unrest and recessionary economic developments that have pervaded the region for several years. Central American countries found their foreign exchange export earnings and traditional market areas shrinking while essential import costs were rising. Restricted spending measures were adopted by governments and private industries. Domestic investment funds for mineral development and exploration projects were among the first casualties of these austere budgetary measures, especially since weak demand and depressed mineral prices diminished the probability of a favorable cost-benefit ratio. The lack of physical security and political stability also discouraged private foreign investment. The United States Congress enacted the Caribbean Basin Economic Recovery Act of 1983 (19 U.S.C. 2702), more popularly known as the Caribbean Basin Initiative (CBI). This legislation was designed to stimulate economic recovery and promote economic development by increasing private investment and trade in the Caribbean Basin countries. The act provided for the elimination of U.S. duties on most trade items imported directly from eligible Caribbean countries, provided at least 35% of the product value originated in the region. The financial assistance components of the CBI were to be supportive of the basin's private sector as well as assist general economic stabilization programs.

A GREAT number of hypotheses has been advanced to explain the complex phenomena that are encountered in flotation. In the days of bulk-oil flotation, when a large quantity of oil was employed, it was observed that the oil-mineral aggregate floated above the ore-pulp because of its lesser density. With the advent of froth-flotation this phase of the theory had to be modified to take into account the presence of air bubbles. The reason why the mineral-bearing froth of today rises to the top of flotation cells is, of course, because the air-mineral aggregate, with whatever reagent may be associated with it, is lighter than the pulp. In an attempt to explain froth-flotation the fact has been emphasized that certain minerals are wetted and therefore remain in water; while others are not wetted and therefore become associated in preference with air. Such an "explanation" does not explain facts, it merely states them; for instance, it does not explain why minerals are wetted under some circumstances and not wetted under others. Going somewhat further, the wetting or nonwetting of minerals by water has been ascribed' to differences in the angles of contact between oil droplets and mineral surface at the surface of the minerals. This explanation, however, was abandoned when soluble flotation reagents came to replace the so-called "insoluble" reagents. Another theory, sponsored about 10 years ago by Ralston,2 involves the effects of electric charges at the surface of the minerals particles and air bubbles. This theory, unfortunately, was not developed as fully as it seems desirable.

Since the introduction of the Explosives Track & Trace in Europe in 2014 for manufacturers and 2015 for end-users, a lot has changed in all areas of the supply chain and the use of explosives. The regional associations, manufacturers' organizations, and trade associations have proven that it is possible to overcome a hurdle, that looks almost impossible in the beginning, through consistent cooperation. The paper gives an insight into the problems involved in introducing such a requirement, identifies ways and solutions, and concludes them. When looking at the current situation, the paper describes the process by which a prescribed change in business processes are transforming into a solution that increases productivity, security, and handling.

In the forging industry, the increasing trend is to use DC cast billets as forging stock to replace extruded stock. However, there is little technical information available in open literature. In order to gain a better understanding of the behaviour of cast stock during deformation, a study was initiated to evaluate the impact of an homogenisation treatment on the billet prior to cold forging. Axisymmetric upsettings of cylindrical samples machined from DC billets were achieved in order to evaluate and compare flow stresses, crack initiation and propagation. Results show a 30% decrease in flow stress after homogenisation. Observations of the deformed samples show major cracking for the as-cast material. Optical microscopy and SEM observations have related the crack initiation to decohesion around ß -AlFeSi particles and subsequent growth along the constituent path. Homogenisation effectively breaks up and transforms the ß phase, present as platelets in the cast product, into smaller spherodised a-AlFeSi particles. This has the effect of preventing crack growth in the forged product. The homogenisation treatment also resulted in the reduction of Mg and Si in solid solution. The softer matrix generated 29% less die wear when compared to the as-cast structure. Based on the results of this study, it is thus recommended to homogenise cast billets prior to cold forging.

"Construction of the OceanaGold Haile operation’s process plant in Kershaw, South Carolina is currently under way, with ore through the mill expected in late 2016 and commercial production expected in early 2017. The process is designed to treat 6,350 tonnes per day with minor upgrades required to achieve 8,270 tonnes per day. Plant optimization during detailed engineering, combined with a focus on de-risking the process, has resulted in numerous process changes since the initial design. This paper describes the plant optimization and de-risking, it also presents a proven commissioning strategy modelled after OceanaGold’s Didipio operation, whilst identifying potential expansion opportunities. INTRODUCTION Haile Gold Mine is located in Kershaw, South Carolina, approximately 50 miles south of Charlotte, North Carolina. Gold was first discovered at the site in 1827, and the property has been through several operating periods since. The last operation employed heap leaching from 1985 through 1992. Since then, the property has been closed and fully reclaimed. Romarco Minerals acquired the property in 2007, and began an exploration program that delineated 2.02Moz. of gold in reserve at an overall grade of 2.06 g/t. OceanaGold acquired Romarco Minerals and the Haile Operation in October of 2015. OceanaGold operates under a risk management philosophy in all aspects of operation, both corporately and at each individual business unit, and has implemented numerous process changes to eliminate or mitigate risks identified in the initial design of the processing circuit, and provided increased opportunity for optimization and expansion. This paper describes the plant optimization and de-risking, it also presents a proven commissioning strategy modelled after OceanaGold’s Didipio Operation, and identifies potential expansion opportunities. INITIAL PROCESSING CIRCUIT DESIGN An extensive metallurgical test work program was undertaken by Romarco Minerals and third party laboratories during the initial design phase of the Haile project [1]. This preliminary test work provided the technical information as a basis of plant design. The initial flow sheet for the Haile processing circuit is shown in Figure 1 (see APPENDIX). The plant is designed to process 6,350 tpd (7,000 stpd) on an annualized basis. The process begins with a jaw crusher followed by a SAG and ball mill grinding circuit to reduce particle size to P80 74 µm. A flash flotation cell treats 50% of the cyclone underflow in the ball mill circuit. Grinding circuit product is sent to a rougher flotation circuit to recover gold-bearing pyrite. The flotation concentrates from flash and rougher flotation are reground to P80 13 µm using stirred media detritors (SMD’s). The rougher flotation tail is pumped to the carbon-in-leach (CIL) circuit for gold recovery. The reground concentrate is pre-aerated prior to being pumped to the CIL circuit. The CIL circuit is a hybrid circuit with eight tanks. Tank 1 leaches the pre-aerated concentrate only, and tanks 2 through 8 leach the combined flotation tailing and tank 1 discharge. The carbon strip circuit is a standard pressure Zadra system, followed by electrowinning, and refining using an induction furnace. CIL tailing passes through a cyanide recovery thickener prior cyanide destruction and then pumped to the tailing storage facility (TSF)."

The Sacaton mine is a relatively new open¬pit copper mine owned by Asarco, Inc., which has been in production only a few years. The mineral deposits consist of two ore zones; a western, near-surface zone minable by open-pit methods, and a deeper eastern zone which will have to be mined underground, probably by block caving. The copper deposits are related to small quartz monzonite intrusives implaced into Precambrian granites. Both rock types act as hosts for the copper mineralization, which has been secondarily enriched sufficiently to constitute ore. In the western zone the enriched supergene chalcocite has been subjected to postenrichment oxidation processes with partial destruction of the chalcocite blanket. The deeper eastern chalcocite zone has not been as severely affected by later supergene processes. Several mineralogical populations are represented in the total copper deposit. Leached capping overlies the chalcocite enriched zone, and in the western ore body there is a very irregular interface between the leached and enriched zone, which is complicated by oxide copper minerals irregularly distributed. Primary lower-grade chalcopyrite mineralization occurs below the enriched zone. When mining commenced near the top of the enriched zone, considerable difficulty was encountered in correlating the actual grade of ore in place with the estimated grade of the mining blocks. The mineralogical complexity and fairly wide spacing of diamond drilling made reliable grade estimation of individual ore blocks a difficult procedure.

The Cr-Ni system was investigated between 900" and 1400°C and 45 to 100 wt pct Cr. The Cr-Fe system was studied between 1200" and 1385°C and 70 to 100 wt pct Cr. Powdered alloy compacts were produced from high-purity chromium, nickel, and iron poulders. The compacts were sintered in an argon atmosphere and then machined into small, 0.030-in. diam cylindrical specimens. These were then heated by induction in the high-temperature X-ray diJfractwn camem under a helium atmosphere and irradiated with copper Ka radiation. From the results of the high-temperature X-ray diffraction patterns it can be concluded that chromium exists only in the bcc form, and that no eutectoid reaction occurs in the Cr-Ni system in the temperature interval 900" to 1400°C. The X-ray diffraction patterns are in agreement with the Cr-Ni phase diagram of Bechtoldt and Vacher, and Williams. It is possible that chromium undergoes one or more allotropic transformations between room temperature and its melting point. Most of the evidence was gathered from the study of the chromium-rich ends of the Cr-Ni and Cr-Fe binary systems. All the investigations rely heavily on indirect methods: thermal analysis, electrical resistivity, and micro-graphic inspection of quenched samples. In the present work the chromium-rich side of the Cr-Ni and Cr-Fe binary systems is studied, using high-temperature X-ray diffraction techniques. Thus the coexistent structures can be observed directly at temperature. PREVIOUS INVESTIGATIONS ~ansenl shows two possible Cr-Ni phase diagrams 1) a simple eutectic [Liquid =a-Cr(bcc) + y-Ni(fcc)], 2) a eutectic [Liquid+ P-Cr(fcc) + y-Ni(fcc)] and euctectoid [p-Cr(fcc) ==a-Cr(bcc) + yNi(fcc)]. The latter is based on the work of Grant and co-workers.2 Stein and rant'" placed the eutectoid composition at 1215°C and 68 wt pct Cr; their diagram is shown in Fig. l. Similarly, Sully3 also discusses the two proposed diagrams. Price and Grant,4 working on an isothermal section of the Cr-Ni- Fe ternary diagram at 1300°C, made no mention of a ß-chromium phase (fcc). The ß-chromium structure was also reported by Misencik 5 in the Cr-Nb(Cb) system. Williams 6 studied the Cr-Ni system using precipitation techniques. His work included the chromium and nickel solvus lines below 1250°C. He reported no ß structure nor any eutectoid reaction. The solvus lines which he produced were very similar to those of Jette, et al 7 below 1000°C. He concluded that Grant and coworkers2 had misinterpreted their data, and that effects which they had reported were actually due to the rapid and extensive precipitation of the nickel-rich phase. Bechtoldt and vacher8 used sintered powdered alloy compacts in an attempt to find the ß phase. They used metallographic and room-temperature X-ray diffraction techniques and also failed to detect the fcc chromium phase. They attributed the low slope of the chromium solvus at approximately 1150°C as the probable cause of the abundant precipitation obtained. They also stated that the precipitation was the probable cause for the abrupt discontinuities in the thermal analysis and electrical resistivity data which led to the conclusion that a eutectoid reaction existed. Fig. 1 also shows their diagram. Grigor'ev and coworkers9 investigated the polymorphic changes of chromium in the Cr-Ni phase diagram. Using standard microstructural and thermal analysis techniques, they published a phase diagram which contained five polymorphic forms of pure chromium and four eutectoid reactions. They stated that the room-temperature bcc chromium transformed to a fcc structure at 930°C, to bcc at 1300°C, to hcp at 1650oC, and then finally to bcc at 1830°C. The eutectoid reactions were placed at 850°, 960o, 1140°, and 1220°C. Also to be noted was the fact that the uppermost phase, the bcc above 1830°C, was different from the upper phase of Grant and coworkers,2 the fcc above 1840°C. An experimental method to determine the carbon activity in various solid solutions was developed. Samples of the solid solutions and an Fe-C reference sample were equilibrated with respect to carbon content by annealing them in a Hz-CHI gas mixture in a closed cell. The carbon content of each sample was determined, and the carbon activity was obtained from the carbon content of' the reference sample and well-established data for the dependence of the carbon activity on the carbon content in Fe-C alloys. The influence of vanadium on the activity of carbon in austenitic Fe-C-V alloys at 1000°C was determined by this technique. A general semiempirical correlation was developed to describe the dependence of the activity coefficient of- carbon on the composition of ternary austenitic iron-base alloys containing interstitial carbon and a substitutional solute. The correlation is particularly useful in predicting the partitioning of- carbon between various alloys. THE influence of substitutional solutes on the activity of interstitial solutes in metallic solid solutions is important in the theory of alloy phases. Solid solutions of particular interest are the fcc austenite phases of ternary Fe-C-Z systems, in which carbon is the interstitial solute and Z represents any substitutional solute. Carbon-activity data are also needed in these solid solutions to solve practical problems; the quantitative treatment of diffusion-controlled transformations' is an examvle. Experimental information is available for ternary austenitic solid solutions containing Mn,2 Si,2 and A16 as the substitutional solute. Because qualitative preliminary studies indicated that vanadium appreciably decreases the carbon activity,14 the present investigation was undertaken to determine the influence of vanadium on the activity of carbon in austenite. Although Flender and ever" measured carbon activity over a range of compositions in the Fe-C-V system, they were primarily interested in determining phase boundaries in the ternary system, so most of their measurements were outside the composition range for stability of single-phase austenite. Petrova and Shvartsman' also made limited measurements of the carbon activity in Fe-C-V alloys. The dependence of the carbon activity on the carbon content of an alloy may be determined by passing COCOz or H2-CH4 gas mixtures of carefully measured composition over the alloys, determining their equilibrium carbon content, and utilizing the relevant equilibrium relationships. smith16 used this technique with both CO-COZ and HZ-CH4 gas mixtures to determine the dependence of carbon activity on carbon content in pure Fe-C alloys. His data, which are in good agreement with those of some previous and subsequent investigators,6'17 but not with those of others,lfl'ao are usually considered to be the most reliable. Although the same method can be applied to Fe-C-Z alloys, it is difficult experimentally, because the appropriate gas mixtures are almost pure CO or Hz. A simpler technique is to simultaneously equilibrate the Fe-C-Z alloys and pure Fe-C alloys with the gas mixtures, and then use Smith's data to determine the carbon activity in the pure Fe-C alloy. A number of investigators have employed this technique. others Have used the partitioning of carbon at the interface of a diffusion couple prepared from an Fe-C alloy and a Fe-C-Z alloy. In the present study, a closed-cell method was developed by which carbon was selectively transferred via a gas medium between pure Fe-C alloys and Fe-C-V alloys which were not in physical contact. A similar method was developed independently by Heckler and winchel14 and used to study the Fe-C-Ni system. EXPERIMENTAL METHOD A schematic diagram of the experimental arrangement is shown in Fig. 1. In a typical experiment, a 5-g Fe-C sample was placed in one compartment of a quartz cell, and a 5-g Fe-V sample was placed in each of the other compartments. Saganoseki smelter & refinery operated two flash smelting furnaces, producing a combined 330,000 metric tons per year (hereinafter mtpy) of copper. [n 1996, however, it successfully shifted to a single fumace operation while maintaining production at the same level. Since then, the production capacity has been further increased to the present 470,000 mtpy by technological improvements. Also, in order to reduce the converter load which represents a bottleneck in efforts to increase production, the matte grade was gradually increased and currently runs at 65 to 66% attaining the low copper content in the slag (hereinafter slag loss) of 0.7 to 0.8%. This ' paper introduces some improvements, recent operation results and thermodynamic analyses.

O cenário de continua degradação das matérias primas, em especial o minério de ferro e a necessidade de reduzir custos, considerando que cerca de 70% do mesmo está relacionado à produção de gusa, atuando em direção oposta, torna este desafio maior ainda. Operar um Alto Forno com elevadas taxas de injeção de carvão (mais que 180 kg/t de gusa) e baixo taxa de combustíveis (menor que 490 kg/t de gusa), considerando a elevação da taxa de geração de escória devido a matéria prima em degradação (~300 kg/t de gusa) torna-se obrigatório ter estabilidade operacional por meio de boas práticas operacionais suportado por adequado sistema de manutenção centrado em confiabilidade (RCM). Este trabalho objetiva mostrar como a ArcelorMittal planta de Tubarão está enfrentando esta situação, visando atingir os objetivos citados anteriormente.

Researchers at the Spokane Research Laboratory of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, Spokane, WA, have collaborated with three Western longwall coal mines in an on going effort to develop technologies that will aid in providing safe and stable working areas. The goal of the research described here is to develop a stress monitoring system that will provide immediate information to mine managers for making daily safety decisions as areas of poor ground are mined through. Initial work has focused on answering preliminary questions regarding the reliability and use of stress change patterns. Research is concentrated on monitoring horizontal stress because horizontal stress is transmitted over long distances through stiff strata, thus allowing an extended length of entry to be monitored. This paper presents an explanation of the concept, key results from field tests at two mine sites, and a proposed process for implementing a monitoring system. System design layouts, instrument use, data collection and interpretation methods, and processes to present findings to mine staff are described. Additional validation and correlation with actual failure mechanisms are required before this approach can be recommended at ongoing operations. However, initial results indicate that this approach shows promise in mines prone to bumps and roof falls associated with large stress changes. In particular, analyses of measured changes in horizontal stresses appear useful.

The Ispat Mexicana SA de CV (IMEXSA) pelletising plant is located at Lazaro Cardenas on the west coast of Mexico. It is the primary source of feed stock for the adjacent direct reduction (DR) plants and steelmaking facilities. The initial design of the pellet plant began in 1981 for 3 Mtpa of DR grade pellets using local concentrate received by pipeline.' Several construction delays, an ownership change, and a decision to use imported concentrates delivered in 60 000 to 90 000 tonnes ship cargoes required flowsheet modifications and additions. The design concepts are described for the plant which includes concentrate regrind to final pelletising particle size.

This report describes two goniometers that, by simple manipulation, can be used to ascertain the attitude of a joint, vein, or fracture plane observed on the planar projection of a borehole photograph taken with an NX borehole camera of the type developed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. One goniometer was designed to interpret photographs taken in vertical drill holes and the other for photographs taken in inclined drill holes. In practice, several measurements are made on each photograph with the goniometer. These data are then substituted into mathematical equations, which are derived in this report and the attitudes of fracture planes are determined.
