The aim of this work is to assess the performance of different constructive solutions against explosions on the strength of masonry walls. The solutions tested, namely an external metal mesh, a glass fibre film on the external face of the wall and a basalt fibre film located on the inner face of the wall, have low to medium cost and are originally designed for other purposes, like seismic protection. Four cubic boxes 3 × 3 × 3 m were built using each of the solutions and typical masonry blocks. In the tests, a spherical plastic explosive initiated in the centre was placed at scaled distance of 2.9 m/kg1/3, so that moderate damage would be caused on the wall. In order to assess the performance of the explosive, pressure gauges were placed at the wall and at different distances from the explosion. Additionally, vibrations were monitored with seismographs in the far field and a high-speed camera was used to estimate the shock wave velocity during the tests. The resulting damage has been evaluated on 13 points of the external wall of each box using a rebound hammer. Damage maps have been drawn for each wall based on these measurements and damage has been assessed inside the box considering the fragments mass launched during the test. The use of external metal mess leads to a decrease of 34 per cent on damage of the external wall and 38 per cent reduction of spalling. Processing of tin slags in reduction furnaces was studied in order to optimize tin recovery and reduce recirculation rates of slags containing thorium and uranium oxides. A theoretical approach considering a mass balance of the process was developed and adjusted by experimental results in order to predict the final slag composition. A metallic phase (FeSnSi) was discovered trapped in the slag due to high apparent viscosity, raising the FeO and SnO2 contents of the slag sample. This FeSnSi alloy is rich in tin and its recovery would help to reduce the slags recirculation. High contents of ZrO2 were found in the slag, restricting it from reaching complete fluid phase. Through an analysis of the slag in the CaO-FeOx-SiO2 and ZrO2-CaO-SiO2 phase systems it can be concluded that final slags should be modeled aiming fluid phase at working conditions and additions should be planned in order to control ZrO2 levels.

The economics of aerial survey and the technical processes by the aid of which vertical and oblique aerial photographs are turned into line maps showing the most profuse topographical detail such as contours, rivers, roads, plantations, habitations and cultivated lands do not concern us here. They have been ably and exhaustively described in the publications of the British War Office, handbooks on surveying methods and on photogrammetry and in the South African mining, engineering and geological press. Suffice it to mention that for geological interpretation vertical photographs are used on such scales as 1/5000 to 1/10,000, overlapping each other by 55 to 60 per cent in the direction of flight and some 10 to 20 per cent sideways on to the next sequence or strip. Through this duplication in the overlap the stereoscopic examination becomes possible. The standards by which monochrome aerial photographs are interpreted can be grouped under the following headings: 1. Continuity.—The continuity of topographic relief not obtainable on the ground owing to the smallness of man relative to that relief. Here lies the greatest value of aerial survey with relation to geology. An immediate alignment can often be made of drainages running in different directions on each side of a hill; saddles and gorges in the mountainsides; abrupt termination of outcrop or indubitable signs of faulting. Most conclusive evidence is thus often obtained about faults which may be perfectly visible at one place on the ground but cannot elsewhere be identified because of decreased throw. Similarly, dikes can often be followed notwithstanding frequent interruption and disappearance under the soil. Scattered outcrop in scrub-covered or bush-covered country can be conveniently located and often correlated, with a large saving of time compared with field work. The same applies to geological contacts. Once these have been established at a few points on the ground, the intervening stretches can be drawn in.

EXPERIENCE has indicated that hard bronzes are not suitable for bearing applications where high bearing loads and speeds are involved. It is the general practice to utilize softer materials for these purposes, such as copper, lead, silver, babbitt, lead-base alloys, and more recently aluminum-base alloys, preferably supported by a steel backing. It was the objective of the present investigation to study a new material produced by powder metallurgical methods susceptible to precipitation-hardening. TEST MATERIALS Preliminary tests were made with compacts containing copper, nickel and silicon in quantities sufficient to form 3 to 5 per cent nickel silicide. It was found that this type of alloy was susceptible to the formation of a soft surface shell when sintered in tank hydrogen. The depth of the shell depended on the length of sintering time and sintering temperature, and varied in thickness from a few thousandths to as much as one eighth inch. This soft shell resulted from the preferential oxidation of silicon, thereby reducing the efficiency of age-hardening by the nickel silicide compound. The body of the sintered compacts below the soft shell could be precipitation-hardened to a hardness of 70 to 85 Rockwell B, by quenching from. 900°C. and age-hardening at 450°C. A series of tests was made with various addition agents, in order to decrease the rate of preferential oxidation, and it was found that phosphorus was most beneficial in this respect. After considerable experimentation, the following nominal composition was accepted as standard: 2.4 per cent nickel; 0.8 silicon; 0.3 phosphorus; balance copper. The physical properties and certain bearing properties of this alloy are described in the present paper. PREPARATION OF COMPACTS Several methods of incorporating the hardening ingredient (nickel silicide) were studied. Compacts formed from copper, nickel and silicon powders were found to be inferior to those fabricated from prealloyed nickel silicide master alloys, because of the rapid oxidation of pure silicon during sintering. The use of a prealloyed nickel silicide hardener containing 25 per cent silicon and 75 per cent nickel could be further improved by preparing a master alloy, incorporating nickel, silicon, phosphorus and copper, having the following nominal composition: 25 per cent nickel; 7 silicon; 3 phosphorus; 64 copper. This alloy is brittle in. the cast condition and can be readily powdered. SINTERING PROCEDURE The blended powders were pressed at 25 to 40 tons per sq. in., the pressure depending on the size and shape of the compacts. The 1987 recovery in the US mining industry permitted modest increases in exploration expenditures that year (Fig. 1). Favorable market conditions apparently allowed the gains to be sus¬tained in 1988. There was great uncer¬tainty early in the year as to whether world and US economic growth would be a casualty of the October 1987 worldwide stock market crash. By nearly all measures, the performance of the US minerals industry was strong¬. A weak US dollar and the strong growth of worldwide capital spending resulted in in¬creased US exports of con¬sumer and producer durable items as well as strong domes¬tic demand for metals. In fact, 1988 US steel industry exports reached levels not attained since the mid-1970s. It was re¬ported that steel industry labor productivity is now roughly twice the 1981 level. Among metals with signifi¬cant average nominal price increases in 1988 over 1987 levels were copper (43%), alu¬minum (52%0), and zinc (44%). Even though domestic copper production has grown since 1984 by 30% in mining and 24% in refining, em¬ployment in mining and milling is 4% below the 1984 level. Domestic unit costs are reported in the range of $1.10 to $1.33/kg (50 to 60 cents per lb). The US base metals industry is proba¬bly in its best cash position in many years. However, there has not been a large increase in exploration expendi¬tures. This is due mostly to the percep¬tion that worldwide capacity can easily be increased. Industry reports do show that "low cost" copper producers have been buying reserves from weaker com¬panies. The 1987 Society of Economic Ge¬ologists (SEG) survey of exploration activity indicated that 95 cents out of every exploration dollar spent by US and Canadian firms was for base and precious metals (Economic Geology, January 1989). Press reports, though, make it clear that most of that spending was targeted for precious metals. US claim staking data (Fig. 2) rein¬forces this suspicion. The apparent lag in new claim filings in Alaska and phe¬nomenal growth in filings in the lower 48 states suggests that exploration is directed at relatively low risk targets. In the conterminous 48, more than 40% of the new claims were made in Nevada, indicating an emphasis on gold (although even Nevada had some base metals exploration). Even with a price decline during 1988, the difference between the gold price and average global "cash" production cost of $7.30/g ($227 per oz) still leaves room for an attractive return (Northern Miner, 1988). Exploration plans and results Metals Economics Group (Halifax) indicated in its 1988 exploration survey that exploration expenditures by US and South African firms would be at about 1987 levels. It also reported that Canadian and Australian firms were ex¬pected to reduce their exploration spend¬ing significantly. Firms in both coun¬tries were caught in changes in tax laws. In Canada, the Mining Ex¬ploration Depletion Allow¬ance (MEDA) once permitted generous tax write-offs to in¬dividuals investing in miner¬als exploration. It was to be replaced in January 1989 with the Canadian Exploration In¬centives Program (CEIP). Although structured and ad¬ministered differently than MEDA, CEIP can provide an equivalent or possibly greater financial incentive for min¬eral exploration, for junior mining companies. In 1987, it is estimated that junior com¬panies accounted for two¬-thirds of the off-property (or grass roots) exploration ex¬penditures in Canada. Australia will revoke the tax exemption for gold in 1990. Australian operators, therfore, were expected to concentrate efforts on speeding up pro¬duction during 1988 and 1989. In 1988, Chile and Mali announced special efforts to attract gold explora¬tion by foreign companies. The Cana¬dian government continues to express concern about the write-off (and drawdown) of base metal reserves. The first phase of our work for PMSRC on this contract was devoted to a comprehensive and in-depth assessment of electromagnetic (EM) noise measurements and data taken by several contractors for use in the design of operational and emergency mine communications. Pertinent measurements and data of other selected investigators were also included in the evaluation. This assessment treated the measurements and instrumentation used, the data analysis and presentation methods, and the utility of the final results. This phase concluded with the identification of the most useful results and methods, the remaining data gaps, the contractor most qualified to fill these data gaps, and the definition (with PMSRC and this contractor - NBS, National Bureau of Standards) of a follow-on noise measurement program, instrumentation system, and data processing methods tailored to obtain the necessary but missing noise data. A partial bibliography of references related to electromagnetic and seismic noise and propagation in the frequency bands of interest was also compiled during this first phase. The body of this Part of the final report presents a summary of the findings of our EM noise assessment, together with detailed recommendations regarding the new noise measurements to be taken and the instrumentation and data processing methods to be used. This work was done during the latter part of 1971 and the early part of 1972. The ConSep ACACIA Reactor is a device, which utilises a high intensity cyanidation process to achieve very high, usually near total, recovery of gold from gravity concentrates. The process utilises a fluidised bed and a chemical oxidant to enhance the gold dissolution kinetics to the point where the bulk of the dissolution occurs in a few hours. For convenience and security, most plants operate a 24-hour turn around. The product from the process is in the form of cathode gold ready for smelting by traditional means. The ConSep ACACIA Reactor performs a two-fold role. Firstly it increases gravity gold production, leading to a decreased CIP feed grade. Secondly, it removes slow leaching components from the plant leaching circuit. This two fold benefit leads to the following efficiencies: enhancement of the dissolution kinetics; enhancement of the adsorption kinetics; reduction of the gold load reporting to the carbon; a significant reduction of the ægold in circuitÆ lockup; and removal of slow leaching entities which can also result in a lowering of the required cyanide concentrations in the leaching circuit and a subsequent reduction in overall cyanide consumption. The above benefits are discussed in this paper, with a particular focus on the ConSep ACACIA ReactorÆs role in removing slow leaching components, with data generated over a 21-month period. Improvement in overall plant recovery via removal of slow leaching gold species is achieved in two ways. Firstly, some of the slow leaching entities, successfully leached under intensive cyanidation, are not always fully leached under plant conditions. This results in a lowering of the solid tailing. Secondly, the faster leaching kinetics achieved in the plant as a result of the removal of slow leaching entities results in faster and more complete adsorption of the dissolved gold onto activated carbon. This results in a lowering of the solution tailings. The construction and operation of the ConSep ACACIA Reactor is simple. Apart from the reactor body, which is a proprietary design, all components of the system are æoff the shelfÆ or specific to the siteÆs requirements. In operation of the fully automated version, a PLC controls a series of valves and pumps but except for a daily changeover process the only operating component for the bulk of the time is a relatively small solution pump. The process can be totally automated giving the security of a æhands freeÆ concentrate handling process up to the point where the product is presented as cathode gold. The ConSep ACACIA Reactor was developed by Anglogold Australia (formerly Acacia Resources) for Union ReefÆs Gold Plant and has been in production since February 1999. It has proven to be a low cost, high recovery, mechanically reliable method for the processing of gold concentrates. Such has been the success of the plant, as of June 2003 there are eighteen full installations of the processing plant installed at mines owned and/or managed by Anglogold, Newmont, Placer Dome, Independence (formerly Lonrho), Sons of Gwalia and Harmony.

THE theory of hardening by interference with slip which has been so clearly developed by Jeffries and his co-workers requires that an alloy to be amenable to age or heat hardening should contain among its components some that will stay in solid solution at high temperatures and precipitate as a secondary phase on cooling. This secondary phase may be either a more or less pure individual element (chromium in the case of copper, anti-mony in the case of lead), or some intermetallic com-pound. Those cases of hardening which depend on the precipitation of a compound are not only the most frequent, but are also far superior in the efficiency of hardening obtained. However, the slip interference theory as stated in its most general form is not sufficient to foretell new cases of this type of hardening and also will not explain some phenomena of a more intricate nature. It is not sufficient that a secondary phase might be absorbed by the main one at high temperatures and precipitated at the lower ones. The kinetics of this precipitation and the accompanying. physical phenomena of dimensional changes play independent and highly important parts. These kinetics, while not yet sufficiently studied to he formulated in the shape of physicochemical equations, might find their expression-in a qualitative systema-tization of the phenomena of precipitation according to two different viewpoints. To begin with, we encounter the question as to the velocities of the precipitation and of the growth of the phase precipitated. To harden a metal in an efficient manner we must be able to control the precipitation on one hand and also to bring the total of the secondary phase to such a number and size of the particles pre-cipitated as, will produce a desirable hardening effect under commercially feasible conditions of. age or heat hardening. From this viewpoint six different cases may be dis-cerned.

"P.T. Freeport Indonesia's lrian Jaya Operation has been producing copper concentrate continuously since 1972. Numerous ore discoveries and five mill expansion programs have seen the initial milling rate of 7,200 MTPD escalate to the present rate of 125,000 MTPD, producing 2.5 million pounds of copper and 3,500 troy ounces of gold per day. The latest expansion, commissioned in February 1995, incorporates a 34 foot Semi- Autogenous Grinding (SAG) Mill, two 20'x30' Ball Mills, conventional roughing, cleaner column flotation, and attendant upgrades to the existing concentrate pumping and dewatering facilities. This paper will describe the SAG Plant flowsheet, and focus on the key training issues which contributed to a successful plant start-up.IntroductionP.T. Freeport Indonesia's operations in the Ertsberg mining district are located in the Jayawijaya Mountains of Irian Jaya, the easternmost province of the Republic of Indonesia. P.T. Freeport Indonesia (PTFI), the operator, is owned by Freeport MacMoRan Copper and Gold (81.3%), the Government of Indonesia (9.4%), and private Indonesian investors (9.4%). Geographical location, and sailing distances are provided on the attached location map.The operation stretches over 7 4 miles ( 114 km) from the dewatering and concentrate shipping facility at the Port of Amamapare on the Arafura Sea to the Grasberg open pit located at 3400m. The regional geology is covered in detail by Van Nort et al (1991 ), with current proven and probable reserves estimated at 1.13 billion metric tonnes grading 1.30% Copper, 1.42 ppm Gold, and 4.06 ppm Silver. The Grasberg open pit mining operation provides 92% of the mill feed, and is described in detail by Hickson (1991). The remainder of the mill feed is derived from several underground block caving operations. Current production rates provide a mine life in excess of 25 years. However, very favorable geology in the area leads to expectations that additional reserves will extend the life of the operation considerably."

A mine fire model gallery has been designed and constructed on the premises of the Central Mining Research Institute, Dhanbad, India to perform systematic in-depth studies on various aspects of mine fires. The gallery is 65.5 m long and 5.86 m2in cross-section and it is divided into firing and non-firing zones. It is equipped with a computer-aided online telemonitoring system that has 130 sensors, two data loggers and computer peripherals for continuous recording of various fire parameters. A fan to generate airflow through the gallery has been installed at its end. Two sliding doors and one rolling shutter were also provided for sealing and regulation of airflow. Two sets of experiments have been carried out in the model gallery maintaining air velocity of 1 and 1.5 m/s through it. In the experiments, the inner sides of the firing zone, 22 m in length, were lined with a thin layer (8?10 cm thick) of coal slabs. Two fire suppression techniques viz. flushing of liquid nitrogen (LN2) and infusion of high pressure high stability (HPHS) nitrogen foam were tried to quantify their effectiveness under dynamic fire conditions. The paper addresses important design features of the gallery, its instrumentation system, the experimental procedure adopted and important findings from the experiments. It has been observed that the intensity of the fire was very high after one hour of its initiation and continued for 3?4 hours. During the period, frequent backlash with smoke and flame was noticed. The efficacy of the fire suppression techniques has been assessed interms of reduction in temperature, generation rate of CO2and CO, and heat release rate. The study reveals that high pressure high stability (HPHS) nitrogen foam is more effective in controlling open fires than liquid nitrogen is. In 2000 Ferroatlantica started a project with the aim to develop a new casting machine for silicon and other ferroalloys. Until now, it has been cast more than 25.000 tons of silicon for the chemical and metallurgical market. This system has improved the process yield, productivity and product quality which place?s Ferroatlantica at the top of technology development in this field. After the first presentation of the Ferroatlantica?s casting machine at Infacon X, we would like to show the improvements in the control which have permitted us to increase the lifetime of the copper and to obtain, at the end of the machine, the right product size for the customer avoiding the current necessity of crushing and sizing the lumpy metal. Furthermore, we have improved the system in relation to the obtaining of smaller granulometries at the end of casting machine. Not only is this kind of machine cost competitive for special silicon applications but also for other normal ferroalloys with different specifications of size and thickness.

The reaction of chalcopyrite with gaseous sulfur has been investigated in the range 350-450 °C in order to transform this mineral into a more acid soluble copper sulfide and insoluble iron sulfide. The results of thermodynamic analysis of this system as well as the X-ray diffraction analysis of the reaction products showed that in the temperature range 350 400°C the sulfidation reaction proceeded without formation of intermediate copper-iron sulfides according to: The effects of temperature and time on the conversion of chalcopyrite were studied. Conversion of chalcopyrite reached about 80% very rapidly with increase in temperature up to about 400°C. The recovery of copper from the sulfidized samples was determined by leaching in oxygenated 1.2M H2S04, 2M NaCI solution. Copper recoveries over 90 % were obtained from samples sulfidized for 30 min at temperatures lower than 400°C.

Nova Scotia has been mining and exporting industrial minerals for over two hundred years. As an industrial mineral producer, this province continues to rank as the number one gypsum mining and exporting region in North America. Mining of many other commodities is ongoing, supplying many local and export markets. In all, excluding aggregate producers, there are nineteen industrial mineral producers operating at thirty sites producing nine commodities including anhydrite, barite, clay and shale, dolomite, gypsum, limestone, salt, silica sand and stone (Fig. I). Numerous aggregate producing operations supply all the province's aggregate requirements and export some of these materials to other regions of Atlantic Canada and as far away as Bermuda (Fig. 2) . Production value of industrial mineral commodities in Nova Scotia for 1982 was $105 million , representing 39% of the total value for all mineral production for the year. Because of the general improvement in the economy, indications are that the 1983 value of production will be higher.

Gekko Systems Pty Ltd engaged in the test work, design, manufacturing and commissioning of the pre-concentration plant at Silver Standard Resources Inc’s Pirquitas mine in the north western Jujuy province of Argentina. Testing of the ore at coarse feeds of between 2 and 12mm returned probable recoveries of up to a total of 95% silver into 50% of the mass fed to the InLine Pressure Jigs (IPJ’s). The plant has been designed and built based on the test results to include a preparation screen to bypass the fines that are naturally higher in grade and repulping of the coarse which is then pumped to three parallel trains of 2-stage IPJ roughing-scavenging. The target 50% yield to concentrate passes over a dewatering screen and the solids are returned back to the mill feed conveyor. The IPJ tails are transferred to a dewatering screen and solid rejects are stockpiled off the end of a transfer conveyor. All dewatered underflow products are processed via hydrocyclones to recover dirty water for use back into the IPJ circuit and return entrained fines to the fines bypass line.With the sulphide orebody being processed, the results from operations to date have shown that plant performance is matching the original laboratory sulphide ore testwork data. The objective of the pre-concentration step is to both reject gangue and achieve grades between 300-400g/t Ag to the float circuit as flotation recoveries are maximised within this range. The plant currently achieves overall upgrades of approximately 150% of feed grade with the IPJ only circuit producing an average 180% increase from calculated feed grade.

"Kinross Gold Corporation’s Maricunga mine in Chile presents an ideal opportunity to apply the SART process to a heap leach operation. Given increasing levels of cyanide complexed copper in current pregnant solutions from Maricunga heaps (over 300 ppm Cu), there is a need to reduce these levels and decrease cyanide consumption and cost. Additionally, a means of disposing of this copper is required, preferably as a saleable product. The well published SART process applied to gold-copper cyanide solutions was selected as it allows rapid precipitation of cyanide soluble copper as a relatively pure copper sulphide. The process also allows effective recovery and recycle of cyanide back to the heap leach operation.This paper reviews the SART process chemistry and presents a summary of SART bench-scale and pilot plant testwork completed by Kinross. Key design parameters and engineering aspects of the proposed plant at Maricunga are discussed. SART plant operating costs and net revenue analysis are included and illustrate the compelling economics of installing a SART process plant. To recover iron values from low grade ores by reverse froth flotation method, further research on cationic collectors used in reverse flotation of iron ores is launched to promote the utilization efficiency of iron ores. In this paper, one new cationic surfactant, bis(2-hydroxylethyl) dodecylamine (BHD), that could be dissolved in water easily was used as collector for quartz flotation. Flotation results indicated that BHD shows stronger collecting performance on quartz than hematite. The maximum recovery of 96.30% to quartz is obtained at a collector concentration of 20.0 mg/L in the pulp pH range from 5 to 7. This collector can be used to float quartz from hematite. And optimal separation results with 86.59% iron recovery and 66.60% iron grade to synthetic sample were achieved at a collector concentration of 20.0 mg/L and pulp pH of 5.02 when hematite and quartz were mixed at a mass ratio of 3:2. The adsorption mechanism of the collector on quartz surface was investigated by XPS analysis, infrared spectroscopic analysis and zeta-potential measurements, which revealed that electrostatic attraction and hydrogen bonding adsorption occur between collector and quartz surface.

The Committee for Mineral Reserves International Reporting Standards (CRIRSCO) was formed in 1994 to promote development and adoption of international standards for estimation and reporting of exploration results, mineral resources and mineral reserves. The CRIRSCO standards have been accepted by most mining companies and professional societies worldwide. Market regulators from Australia, South Africa and Canada require that these standards be followed when releasing public information. Among these requirements is the use of specific definitions for what constitutes exploration results, mineral resources and mineral reserves. If such information is publicly disclosed in must be estimated by a Competent or Qualified Person. In the United States of America, public disclosures are regulated by the US Securities and Exchange Commission. The SEC does not recognise the CRIRSCO guidelines, and some of the SEC requirements for public release of information are materially different from those applicable in other countries. The CRIRSCO definitions and the Competent Person requirements are reviewed and compared with those of the SEC. The organisation of the SEC and its rule making process are briefly discussed. Ongoing efforts to bring the US regulatory requirements closer to those applicable in other countries are presented, as well as other activities that CRIRSCO is entertaining with the United Nations, the International Accounting Standard Board and other international organisations to reach the objective of worldwide standardisation of reporting procedures.

One of the criteria to define the market value of chromite concentrate is its chromium to iron ratio. Changing this ratio for a definite chromite mineral is impossible by physical processing. This study investigated the possibility of increasing this ratio through the carbochlorination and the oxychlorination of chromite concentrates. Experiments are carried out up to 1000 °C. The characteristics of samples and reaction products are determined by SEM, XRD and chemical analysis. The carbochlorination of a chromite concentrate at about 600 °C leads to the . selective partial elimination of iron allowing a higher Cr/Fe ratio of the treated concentrate. Selective extraction of iron could also be achieved at about 950 °C by oxychlorination. In this case, a part of chromium contained in the concentrate is recovered as chromium oxychloride. The obtained residue had high content of Cr, Mg and A1 oxides. Such material has probably better chemical and thermal properties that may. be useful for foundary and refractory applications. Two flow-sheets for the beneficiation of the chromite concentrates using carho- and oxychlorination are suggested.

The U.S. Bureau of Mines has patented and transferred to industry an abrasive-enhanced water-jet rock drill. This drill incorporates three novel components: a collimator, jet deflectors for cutting clearance, and an unpressurized swivel, which rotates at 1,000 rpm while passing 20 gpm of an abrasive slurry flowing at 1,000 ft/s. Drilling occurs through the action of a 10,000-psi, 2O-gpm water jet into which is entrained 72 lb/min of abrasives. The pumps, hoses, and fittings are those commonly used in the water-jet-cleaning industry. Only inexpensive, common sandblasting abrasives are used. This drill can cut through hard rocks with moderate-pressure jets; e.g., rocks with a compressive strength of 73,000 psi can be drilled with a 1O,OOO-psi abrasive jet. In addition to drilling holes, the drill can cut deep, narrow kerfs; collar a hole at any angle; drill through rubble; and chamber holes. The development of the abrasive jet drill is a significant advance in the state of the art of hard-rock drilling. The Government of the United States has licensed the abrasive jet drill patent to Weatherford Water Jetting Systems.
