"This paper demonstrates the selection of grinding circuit technology for a number of recent projects including discussion of the key drivers and the role of energy efficiency. Decreasing head grades combined with a strong and sustained increase in operating costs has forced miners to examine increased project size, increased equipment capacity and efficiency improvements in order to reduce their unit operating costs and improve overall project economics. Comminution energy consumption, safety and capital cost considerations play a critical role in the success of projects. This paper presents some key guidelines for a successful and cost effective comminution circuit design and includes a case study on three projects, outlining the issues and the drivers which led to the ultimate circuit selection and the critical role that energy efficiency played.INTRODUCTIONComminution circuits for minerals processing are selected based on their suitability and efficiency in reducing run-of-mine ore to the desired feed size for the downstream process. The input material (ore) properties and downstream process requirements are the key determinants and there are standard approaches for each circumstance.The minerals processing industry has been a fast adaptor of efficiency improvements based on increasing capacity of equipment (e.g. trucks, crushers, mills, pumps) but less successful in adapting radically new technologies that disrupt incumbent flowsheets or processes.The installed power of grinding mills has increased linearly over the past 25 years (Meka & Lane, 2010) and pumps and classification equipment have kept pace. The autogenous grinding (AG) and semiautogenous grinding (SAG) mills displaced stage crushing as a dominant method of coarse rock breakage in many applications causing crusher manufactures to increase the capacity of cone crushers to meet the competitive demand.Examples of new comminution technology in the 20th and 21st centuries are the development and adoption of cyclone classification in the 1940s (Newtech, 2016), AG milling in the late 1950s, vertical grinding mills in the 1980s, high pressure grinding rolls (HPGRs) also in the 1980s and ultrafine milling technology in the 1990s (Meka & Lane, 2010)."

"The increasing demand for small deformations and high-capacity drilled shafts without enlarging drilledshaft diameters has motivated the development and increasing use of a base grouting (BG) technique. This technique has been demonstrated to improve drilled-shaft capacity, especially for shafts tipped into loose cohesionless soils. Nevertheless, there remains considerable uncertainty in predicting the performance of base-grouted shafts, particularly for shafts tipped into cohesive soils. To date, there are only two documented design methods for estimating the axial geotechnical resistance of base-grouted shafts: Tip Capacity Multiplier (TCM) and Axial Capacity Multiplier (ACM) methods. A comprehensive test program was carried out during the design phase of the Wisconsin Zoo Interchange project to help optimize the flyover ramp’s foundation design. The test program included installing and testing one base grouted shaft and one ungrouted shaft at two sites with different ground conditions. Based on test results, it was concluded that prediction of the TCM method is well correlated with the measured values for both cohesive and granular soils; however, both methods tend to underestimate the axial resistance. Results also highlighted the importance of the base-grouting criteria in taking full advantage of the base grouting.INTRODUCTIONBase-grouted drilled shafts (BGDS), also known as post-grouted drilled shafts, consist of conventionally installed drilled shafts that contain access grout tubes placed within the shaft during construction. After installing the drilled shaft and achieving the pre-established concrete strength, grout is injected at the shaft tip through the access grout tubes to improve soil behavior around the drilled-shaft base. The tip grout injection improves the overall shaft capacity and reduces settlement through Densifying the in situ soils, compressing any debris left by the drilling process, preloading the soil beneath the tip to mobilize the shaft base resistance within service limits, increasing the tip area, and increasing the side resistance in the lower portion of the shaft."

The iron ore industry in Australia has, in recent years, experienced an unprecedented growth phase. But now that major expansions are moving into the operation phase, new challenges have emerged. Whereas initial planning may involve a few modelling studies, ongoing performance monitoring and improvement requires a different, more intense approach. This is especially important in the face of changing factors such as commodity prices, exchange rates and labour markets. Response time is key. As a mining operation proceeds from initial planning to daily operations, the time window for analysis shortens, going from months to weeks to days as the business matures.Simulation models and analysis tools are typically built and run by specialists in the planning phase, but then what? The investment has been made, but realised only once. What if further analysis could be carried out in-house, re-using existing models using up-to-the-minute data? Can we create virtual mines that run in parallel to live operations that allow computers to identify areas of a value creation or operational improvement? These questions can be answered by the innovative application of big data, simulation and predictive analytics. The future will be having this all integrated into one platform that offers, for the first time, an opportunity for non-experts to apply existing modelling and analysis assets – combined with live data – to deliver support for continuous improvement, and the ability to respond quickly to external changes in the best possible way, before they become big problems. These techniques will represent a step change in the ability for operations to maximise efficiency and will underpin the intelligent operations of the future. "Oxidation autoclaves are normally operated at elevated temperature and pressure. The improvement in kinetics is due to combined effect of temperature and partial pressure of oxygen. In this paper exclusive effect of pressure has been studied with a low grade sulphide ore at below 100 °C temperature. These studies are related to development of a novel tower-like reactor that utilizes hydrostatic pressure. Technology is designed to generate high amount of effective fluid volume for high solid content slurries with lower energy consumption and improved kinetics compared to normal atmospheric operation.INTRODUCTIONEconomical utilization of low-grade ores requires handling of enormous amount of material. This sets new requirements for process equipment in terms of size and energy efficiency. For example on the field of mineral processing this has lead to a six fold increase in the operating volume of mechanical flotation cells over the past two decades. Ore beneficiation methods like flotation greatly reduce amount of material that needs to be further processed in smelters or hydrometallurgical refineries. However with some ore types, such as nickel laterites and refractory gold ores, traditional concentration technologies cannot be utilized. Thus direct leaching of ground ore could be an attractive option. In many cases normal atmospheric tank leaching has traditionally been a non-feasible option mainly due to high capital and operational expenses induced by large amount of stirred reactors required. Main restriction for increasing reactor size to beyond 500 m3 has been mechanical load and power requirements set by mixing in cases when high dispersion efficiency of gas is required. THEORETICAL BACKGROUNDIn hydrometallurgical industry autoclaves are typically operated at elevated temperature and pressure. In many cases increase in operating temperature is the desired phenomena and improvements in kinetics are strongly related to that. Thus increase in pressure might be induced solely by water vapor pressure. However when gaseous feed is present, pressure itself has a strong effect on leaching kinetics for various reasons and its role should not be neglected."

In underground excavations, under high stress conditions, ground support systems must provide safe and effective response to dynamic events. These systems must be capable to resist dynamic impacts and yielding during the loading process. In this context dynamic testing of the reinforcement and retaining elements that compose the ground support system are required to study and improve the behaviour of these elements under dynamic load events. During the last years, Geobrugg has been working on the improvement of retaining products by testing them in a large-scale impact test facility located at Walenstadt, Switzerland. The test facility is composed of a double level platform with a square-shaped pyramidal trunk geometry, in the upper level housing a loading mass that drop from a height up to 5m. The loading mass is guided by one central steel pipe, and the impact occurs in the sample to be tested located at the lower level in a slab with an area of 3.6m × 3.6m where the ground support system is installed. During the last years, this innovative facility has been used to test several configurations of ground support systems. The results of these tests have enabled to improve the understating of the behaviour of ground support systems under dynamic loads. In this manuscript, the back analysis through numerical methods (central difference and Newmark’s method) of a ground support system tested with a double dynamic impact in 2019 is presented.

PERUSAL of a list of present-day commercial explosives perhaps does not convey a full realization that there has been a great deal of improvement since the original dynamite was discovered nor that, in recent years, great developments have taken place in specialized explosives. This is true particularly of high-explosives for use in metalliferous mining or what is more commonly termed 'hard-rock' mining. Not many decades ago, only two or three types of explosive were avail-'able for commercial use. One was black blasting powder. Another was ordinary nitro-glycerin dynamite in various strengths. Black blasting powder remains with but very little change. Despite its ancient lineage, it is still with us as perhaps the sole explosive in use today which is almost identical in appearance, physical properties, and working ability or execution co the original. Which dynamite the story is different. Its evolution may be likened to that of the dog, nitro-glycerin as first discovered being the counterpart of the wild dog and, like it, dangerous and hard to control. The original dynamite as made by Nobel might then be considered as representing the first domesticaced species. This original dynamite, however, has been 'crossed with other bloods' until one sees now many distinct 'breeds' in the list. Present-day explosives still have the 'bark' and the 'bite', but with control and research have come many improvements; and types have been created which are specially adapted for particular kinds of work. We still have the direct descendant of Nobel's dynamite in the form of an improved nitro-glycerin dynamite. This C-I-L explosive, Polar Dynamite, is no longer the best type to use in the hunt for gold, silver, iron, and other metals. There have been developed other explosives more suitable for chat work. In Canada, such explosives are accomplishing this work effectively, not only where climatic conditions are moderate but through the rigours of our northern winters, with their sub-zero temperatures.

This paper discusses the replacement of AEROFLOAT ® 1 25 promoter by AERO ® 5688 promoter at Sonora Mining Corp.'s California Mother Lode concentrator. Flotation concentrate is trucked 120 miles to a leach plant in Nevada, so the reduced mass resulting from higher gold grades and reduced talceous gangue and barren pyrite resulting from this change in promoters has brought about a major decrease in shipping costs. Preliminary laboratory testing indicated that free milling gold and controlled amounts of pyrite could be floated using Aero 5688 promoter with reduced dosages of Aero 350 xanthate.2 Extensive plant trials confirmed that the new reagent suite could indeed maintain gold recoveries while reducing total mass. Improved froth characteristics also improved operating flexibility in treating various ore types, and overall reagent costs have been reduced.

"The objective of this project was to investigate the application of Prompt Gamma Neutron Activation Analysis (PGNAA) technology to provide real-time on-belt elemental analysis of feed ore in base metal sulphide processing, in this case at the Mount Isa Mines Zinc-Lead Concentrator Heavy Medium Plant (HMP). After initial exploratory testwork proved successful, a Geoscan On-Belt Elemental Analyser was retrofitted onto the existing HMP feed conveyor. Dynamic calibration of the Geoscan was conducted based on laboratory XRF analysis results of the HMP feed conveyor hammer autosampler samples from May to November 2013. Comparison of the Geoscan results to the laboratory XRF analysis results during and after dynamic calibration indicated the technology had acceptable accuracy to be incorporated into HMP process control. The variation between the two sets of data includes all primary sampling, sample preparation and XRF analysis errors as well as the Geoscan errors themselves. The Geoscan instrument precision must be calculated separately through a duplicate sampling campaign and independent laboratory analysis before extending the scope of its range of application beyond HMP process control. The expected benefits of integrating the Geoscan real-time data into HMP process control are optimised HMP metal recovery, improved cost efficiency and improved stability of the downstream processes (milling and flotation). Utilisation of the Geoscan will also enable improved feedback to mines on grade control and dilution, and provide additional information on individual ore types when fed as campaigns to HMP."

I have spent my entire life in the mining industry pursuing what I believed was an honorable profession that provided products that were critical for our social and economic well being. Now I am told that all of my efforts been for nothing and that I have been doing something morally wrong - mining. This view of the future is not one that the mining industry has to allow to unfold. A determining factor in how things will turn out is continued improvement of the industry's environmental performance. To some extent, the current state of affairs in the United States is a result of the common perception that greedy corporations (usually foreign) are somehow ripping off US citizens of their native birthright or natural treasures in the name of corporate profits. Implicit in this view is the belief that corporations will take shortcuts or violate the environment in the name of profits. I have 26 years of experience in working in the copper, uranium and gold industries. Profits during those years were meager and difficult to find (Fig. 1). In fact, when I began working fresh out of college, I chose copper, which was then selling at around $1/lb. By the time I left copper mining, it was selling for 45 cents/lb. I then moved to uranium, which was selling for $52/lb. By the time I left it was $16/lb. I finally picked gold, which was then at ($650/oz). There is a whole generation of engineers, geologists and professionals who have spent two decades downsizing, closing mines, improving costs and getting smarter about how the mining industry does what it does. The environment, health and safety are areas where there have been great improvement. There are five characteristics of corporate governance that are critical for a company to develop and an industry to embrace if environmental, health and safety excellence is to reach new heights in the labor pool.

A 1-year program of exploratory research, to determine the feasibility of radar exploration in advance of coal mining, has been completed. Advance detection of obstructions including faults, clay veins, abandoned wells, and pyritic concretions would improve the safety and efficiency of mining. Initial calculations based on laboratory tests of the RF electrical properties of bituminous coals indicated feasibility; radar waves at frequencies below 100 MHz should be detectable through tens to hundreds of meters of coal and be well-reflected by clay, pyrite and metal obstructions. Using a proprietary, experimental, VHF short-pulse "mining radar" system, two cycles of field testing and equipment improvement were completed. Measurements were made in three bituminous coal mines, a quarry, and a salt mine. Comparisons were made with ground-penetrating radar equipment developed by others for salt dome exploration and for military tunnel detection. The proprietary mining radar equipment and techniques used were found to be the most effective known for coal exploration, but further improvements are needed; one major problem in all systems is interfering clutter signals arising in the equipment and from mine room reverberations through leakage coupling of the antennas to the air. Nevertheless, several practical goals have been achieved: excellent radar reflections were received and identified through up to 30 feet of coal; reflections from a wet, abandoned drill hole were identified by their polarization property and detected at distances up to 272 feet, and mine-wall reflections were detected at distances up to 735 feet (both through salt); propagation through and reflections from large vertical clay veins in coal were demonstrated; experimental results agree reasonably well with theory. The results and experience gained during the project affirm the feasibility of the method. They also provide a firm basis for the development of a practical radar technology for exploration in advance of mining. No Subject Inventions, as defined in the contract, were made in the course of this work.

?Demand-side measure" means a rate, measure, action or program undertaken to conserve energy or promote energy efficiency?? (BCUC, 1996) In actual economical environment, business sustainability requires high-efficiency technological processes. That is why the efficiency concept has to be present at all levels of industrial activities. Nowadays, some purchasing decisions are still driven predominately by the purchase price, in spite of the evidence that such price represents up to 5 % to 7 % of the total costs of ownership with full consequences of energy efficiency and the impact on total ownership costs. The paper presents essentials of converter types and basics of the Global Efficiency (GEff) Concept that has been promoted over the last few years in South African industries (Pitis et al., 2006/7). GEff concept is proven as a useful tool used on price-efficiency decisions. Theoretical and technical aspects of this concept were substantiated with case studies. First part presented in this paper will describe how GEff concept was used on price ? efficiency decisions when single input or direct converters and systems (considered as low value equipments) have been replaced. Besides the impact of energy savings and new innovative developments, the paper suggests general other benefits of: ? Technical and economical performance improvements and competitiveness of mining corporations to international standards; ? Defusing incipient energy crisis in the sector; ? Improving environmental conditions; ? Creating new job opportunities in mining sector. Proposed concept in this paper could be further developed as models of improving companies? corporate energy policies.

Modification of the silicon in Al-Si alloys can be performed by adding a very small amount of some elements like Na, Sr and Ca to alter the form of silicon from an acicular shape to a fine fibrous one. This modification results in a considerable improvement in mechanical properties especially elongation, Metallographic observations in A356 alloy indicated the degree of the modification with Na, Sr and Ca, They showed that the effect of Ca as a modifier is not as strong as is Na or Sr while Na is the most effective modifier, Although modifiers improve mechanical properties, they also increase porosity in castings, The reduced pressure test (RPT) and Tatur test showed that the increasing porosity with Na is the most and with Sr is the least.

There have been strong industrial observations that clay minerals have a deleterious effect on mineral flotation grade and recovery. However, rigorous explanation on the role of clay minerals in flotation and effective ways to reduce their negative effects are not available. In this study, the flotation behaviour of low quality and high quality coal samples were examined at the Xstrata Oaky Creek Coal plant, and laboratory in fresh and recycled water with high ionic strength. Anionic and non-ionic dispersants including lignosulfonates and triblock copolymers were also tested with an objective of improving coal flotation in recycled water. It was found that overly stable froth was produced in the flotation of both low quality and high quality coal samples in saline water. Speciation modelling indicated precipitation of hydrophilic components which may adversely affect the flotation. Despite the overly stable froth, saline water produced much higher combustible recovery than fresh water without significantly losing the product quality. Lignosulfonate dispersants displayed a potential to improve the flotation in fresh water, but not in saline water. Significant flotation improvement was achieved with the triblock copolymer examined in both fresh and saline water.CITATION:Liu, D, Wang, B, Peng, Y and Vink, S, 2012. The tank house of Tamano Smelter has adopted a high current density electrolysis operation applying PRC (Periodic Reverse Current) method and before 1991, it had materialized both high production capacity of 161,000 tons/year and high labor productivity. However, recent rapid rise of Japanese currency in foreign exchange market has urged us to further exert our efforts in reduction of labor cost. In order to achieve this goal of labor cost reduction, we have completed, in 1994, our phase four production expansion project which incorporated significant re-structuring of the organization and we have accomplished annual production of 191,000 tons/year. This project can be outlined as increase of number of cells for electrode exchange per day in the commercial electrolysis process to meet the increased number of cells and increase of the capacity of impurity treatment process. These improvements were done with minimum installation of new equipment and facilities and with achievements in efficiency and manpower saving of the existing facilities. Together with these improvements, rationalization in the starting sheet section was carried out by changing the material of mother blanks as well as changing their maintenance procedures. At the same time, the crane in this section was modified to enable automatic operation by a fuzzy control. As a result, we were able to save manpower equivalent to 5 operators in this section. With these improvements, the production capacity was increased by 18% and labor productivity by 25%.

"NIOSH’s mine fire simulation program, MFIRE, is widely accepted as a standard for assessing and predicting the impact of a fire on the mine ventilation system and the spread of fire contaminants in coal and metal/nonmetal mines, which has been used by U.S. and international companies to simulate fires for planning and response purposes. MFIRE is a dynamic, transient-state, mine ventilation network simulation program that performs normal planning calculations. It can also be used to analyze ventilation networks under thermal and mechanical influence such as changes in ventilation parameters, external influences such as changes in temperature, and internal influences such as a fire. The program output can be used to analyze the effects of these influences on the ventilation system. Since its original development by Michigan Technological University for the Bureau of Mines in the 1970s, several updates have been released over the years. In 2012, NIOSH completed a major redesign and restructuring of the program with the release of MFIRE 3.0. MFIRE’s outdated FORTRAN programming language was replaced with an object-oriented C++ language and packaged into a dynamic link library (DLL). However, the MFIRE 3.0 release made no attempt to change or improve the fire modeling algorithms inherited from its previous version, MFIRE 2.20. This paper reports on improvements that have been made to the fire modeling capabilities of MFIRE 3.0 since its release. These improvements include the addition of fire source models of the t-squared fire and heat release rate curve data file, the addition of a moving fire source for conveyor belt fire simulations, improvement of the fire location algorithm, and the identification and prediction of smoke rollback phenomena. All the improvements discussed in this paper will be termed as MFIRE 3.1 and released by NIOSH in the near future INTRODUCTION The MFIRE program, originally developed in the 1970s by the U.S. Bureau of Mines (now the Office of Mine Safety and Health Research (OMSHR) at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH)) and Michigan Technological University, has been a mainstay in modeling of the mutual influences between a fire and the mine ventilation system during an underground mine fire. Several update versions have been released over the years, including MFIRE 1.27, 1.29, 1.30, 2.0/2.01, 2.10, and 2.20. The MFIRE program logically comprises four parts: (1) a conventional network calculation, where it performs the basic network balancing without considering heat or mass transfer; (2) a temperature calculation to establish the reference temperature distribution before a non-steady state (transient-state) simulation; (3) a transient-state simulation that follows changes in ventilation step-by-step to produce a continuous description of the temperature distribution, smoke, and contaminant spread through the ventilation system during a fire event; and (4) a quasi-equilibrium simulation to predict the state of the ventilation system after a relatively long period of time (defaulted as 5 hours in MFIRE) as the fire reaches a quasi-steady state. In summary, MFIRE is a computer simulation program that performs normal ventilation network planning calculations and dynamic transient-state simulation of ventilation networks under a variety of conditions including the influence of natural ventilation, fans, fires, or any combination of these (Chang et al., 1990)."

The US Bureau of Mines undertook a study of those factors influencing worker escape from an outby coal mine fire. The results of this investigation were two-fold. First, those factors affecting escape from a mine fire were defined, and second, the relationships between these factors were identified. Although the individual components had been studied before, little information was available on their interdependence. Fault tree analysis was used to evaluate the miner escape scenario. After constructing the fault tree, a two-phase analysis of the tree was conducted. During the first phase, the minimal cutsets of the fault tree were identified and ranked. These sets were the smallest sequence of events leading to fatalities during the fire. This ranking revealed that reduced evacuation delays, improved self-rescuer training, and improved stopping construction were important in controlling fatalities during escape from the mine fire. The second phase involved additional analyses of the fault tree. These evaluations were started by first determining occurrence probabilities for each event in the fault tree. Two types of sensitivity analyses were then conducted. The first analysis dealt with changes in event probabilities and their impact on the likelihood of fatalities. The final sensitivity analysis considered dramatic reductions in the probability of fire fatalities. This revealed what event probability values were necessary to reach this level. These results have revealed various remedial actions that could be used to improve the survivability of an outby mine fire.

Although explosives constitute only a small portion of a mine's total cost, the relative success of each blast has a tremendous effect on subsequent activities such as excavation, crushing, and equipment maintenance. Beginning in January of 1993, tests were carried out to determine whether productivity could be improved by replacing standard ammonium nitrate fuel oil mixtures (ANFO) with a high density, high performance blasting agent. The study was carried out at gold mines, coal mines, and cement quarries in Nevada, California, Colorado, and New Mexico. A wide variety of rock types and blasting conditions were encountered. Results showed that at most operations productivity was sufficiently improved to more than offset the increase in explosives cost. This resulted in a net reduction in mining cost. This paper presents a summary of these results.

Comminution energy consumption, safety and capital cost considerations play a critical role in the success of projects. This paper presents some key guidelines for a successful and cost effective comminution circuit design and includes a case study on three projects, outlining the issues and the drivers which led to the ultimate circuit selection and the critical role that energy efficiency played.IntroductionComminution circuits for minerals processing are selected based on their suitability and efficiency in reducing run-of-mine ore to the desired feed size for the downstream process. The input material (ore) properties and downstream process requirements are the key determinants and there are standard approaches for each circumstance.The minerals processing industry has been a fast adaptor of efficiency improvements based on increasing capacity of equipment (e.g. trucks, crushers, mills, pumps) but less successful in adapting radically new technologies that disrupt incumbent flowsheets or processes.The installed power of grinding mills has increased linearly over the past 25 years (Meka & Lane, 2010) and pumps and classification equipment have kept pace. The autogenous grinding (AG) and semi- autogenous grinding (SAG) mills displaced stage crushing as a dominant method of coarse rock breakage in many applications causing crusher manufactures to increase the capacity of cone crushers to meet the competitive demand.Examples of new comminution technology in the 20th and 21st centuries are the development and adoption of cyclone classification in the 1940s (Newtech, 2016), AG milling in the late 1950s, vertical grinding mills in the 1980s, high pressure grinding rolls (HPGRs) also in the 1980s and ultrafine milling technology in the 1990s (Meka & Lane, 2010)."

As the mining industry faces times of change, new challenges arise to ensure raw material supply for the younger and future generations. Different scenarios are currently shaping the way we mine and teach mining engineering. Led by an increasing demand for raw materials, net zero requirements for improving long-term operation performance, technological advancements such as automation and digitalization, safety improvements, environmental considerations and a need for social acceptance, mining is pursuing to change and adapt to these requirements at a faster pace. Such changing times raise new concerns, one of the most relevant is the lower number of students interested or enrolling in mining engineering and related fields leaving mining engineering as one of the less preferred career options between the younger generations. Nonetheless, it is essential to continue addressing and supplying the skill sets that are suited to the contemporary and future mining industry. To this end, globally, academia is currently undergoing several initiatives such as curricula updates and adaptation, up skilling, improving teaching practices and techniques, including e-learning techniques, enhancing industry-academia and inter-university collaboration, and much more. In countries like Australia, where mining plays a crucial role in the economy, the need for curriculum updates is more pressing than ever. As the mining industry evolves with new technologies and sustainable practices, there is a growing demand for a workforce skilled in these modern approaches. Recognizing this necessity, universities such as the University of New South Wales and Curtin University have taken significant steps to revamp their educational programs. By updating their academic offerings, both universities aim to equip graduates with the necessary skills to drive innovation and sustainability in mining, supporting Australia’s development as a leader in this critical sector. Moreover, the selection of topics that drive curricula update and the focus of the research institutions in mining engineering must extend beyond mere technological and technical aspects to include social and ethical dimensions. In this context, the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, in association with the Colorado School of Mines, has introduced the topic of Humanitarian Engineering (HE) in 2020. HE is a socio-technical approach that focuses on developing engineering solutions that promote the sustainable development of communities addressing their basic needs and aiming to improve their quality of life (10, 18). By focusing on sustainable development, community engagement, and equitable resource distribution, HE helps the industry build positive relationships with stakeholders, reduce conflicts, and foster social license to operate. As the mining industry seeks sustainable and socially responsible practices, future engineers require training in this area to understand the broader impacts of their work, fostering a mindset that prioritizes community well-being and environmental stewardship alongside technical proficiency.
