Results of a Debye-Scherrer X-ray investigation are given which show that the order-disorder transformation is a first-order or heterogeneous reaction in Cu-AU alloys with compositions near CuAu. Evidence was found for conventional tie-line segregation across a usual type of two-phase field separating the ordered and disordered fields in the Cu-Au equilibrium phase diagram. The horizontal and vertical widths of the two-phase fields are about 3 atomic pct and 20°C, respectively, at 43 and 54 atomic pct Au. No evidence for the existence of an ordered structure based on a stoichiometric composition of Cu3Au2 could be found. ALTHOUGH the modern theories relating the de-Agree of order of binary alloys to temperature and composition have met with considerable success, the nature of the transformation from the disordered state to the ordered state and vice versa has never been well understood. It has been assumed by some' that this is a second-order transformation, that is, a homogeneous change of state. Others2 hold that the transformation is first-order and that the effects characteristic of heterogeneous phase transformation apply. Since this subject is discussed in detail in a recent paper,' the arguments will not be repeated here. The present paper summarizes an experiment which was designed to distinguish between these two viewpoints for the case of Cu-Au alloys near the composition CuAu. The Cu-Au system is an important one because it furnishes prototype alloys, the behavior of which has formed the basis of much of the present-day order-disorder theory. It has recently been shown- hat in alloys near Cu3Au there is a temperature range within which the ordered and disordered states coexist in equilibrium and are distinguishable as separate phases. Therefore, the transformation must be first-order for these alloys. A similar demonstration for alloys near CuAu, however, has been lacking. Experimental Method Essentially the experiment consisted of equilibrating Cu-Au samples at various temperatures, quenching them in water to retain the high temperature states, and then examining them at room temperature for the coexistence of the ordered and disordered structures. The thermal gradient method of heat treatment- as used because it was important that all temperatures over the transformation range should be represented in the test. Briefly, this method consisted of holding a wire of the desired composition, sealed under vacuum in Pyrex, in a known temperature gradient for a long enough time to allow each part of the wire to assume the crystal structure characteristic of the temperature at which it was held. The temperature gradient was produced by inserting into an ordinary wire-wound cylindrical laboratory furnace, an 18 in. length of 1/8 in. ID ceramic tube which was heavily wrapped with asbestos. The furnace power was controlled by a Tag-liabue Celectray controller and a chromel-alumel thermocouple with the junction located on the heating elements. During the equilibrating treatment the widest variation of temperature within the gradient tube was approximately 4°C at the highest temperature. The name FISH (Fully Integrated Sort House) refers to a class of technology deployed at Jwaneng Mine final diamond recovery. In addition, a number of lessons were learnt about the application of new technologies in the industry: ?The required human competency profile demanded by new technology should match the available competencies of the operational staff ?An integrated information management system should be fully functional for both production management and diamond control purposes ?Operational feedback must be correctly evaluated to identify design, maintenance, training and operational issues so as to accelerate the maturity of the new technology within the time span of the sustainable operations project ?Project execution and technology maturity risks have to be evaluated and married to ensure risk mitigation by means of suitable project resource and contracting model selection.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi desenvolver um suporte cerâmico apropriado para a soldagem unilateral de liga de alumínio, utilizando a cordierita, uma vítria cerâmica constituída de óxidos. Trata-se de uma proposta tecnológica que viabiliza a produtividade da operação de soldagem, mantendo-se inalterada a qualidade da junta soldada ampliando os conhecimentos relacionados aos suportes cerâmicos focando a redução dos custos de fabricação.A soldagem unilateral com este tipo de suporte de solda foi executada em chapas de alumínio com arame de solda de alumínio 4043 pelo processo Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW). A eficiência do suporte cerâmico em suportar o metal de solda líquido foi verificada durante a soldagem do passe de raiz. Várias soldas foram executadas em chapas com espessura de 6,35mm para testar a eficiência do suporte. Parâmetros e variáveis do processo foram estudadas: a abertura de raiz, a tensão, a corrente e a energia de soldagem. Os resultados mostraram que o suporte foi eficiente para suportar a poça de solda líquida. Foi possível estimar uma faixa de operação do processo, com abertura de raiz de 2,0 a 6,0 mm e a energia de soldagem calculada ficou entre 0,62 e 1,46 kJ/mm. A soldagem foi realizada com mecanismo para facilitar a saída do arame de alumínio (tocha Push-Pull) sendo soldado puxando, da esquerda para direita, com pequena oscilação lateral em relação ao cordão de solda. As macrografias das juntas soldadas, além de revelar boa penetração lateral (entre 2 a 4,5mm) e reforço de solda com até 2,1mm de altura, pôde revelar ausência de descontinuidades como: trincas, falta de fusão, inclusão de escórias e porosidades.

The degree of saturation in leach facilities and waste dumps can be determined by means of this simple test equipment. A design flow rate is applied to the sample, which is equivalent to irrigation and/or the design storm event. In this sense, the paper point out that the tests were carried out on two different ore sizes from the Pierina Gold mine in Peru. The samples were remolded by using three different densities, simulating different depths within the heap. The ore was subjected to a predefined flow rate, which was equivalent to the design irrigation rate. The flow rate was increased to consider the additional effect of the design storm event during irrigation. In the future, further tests will be performed using different ores samples from operating mines and varying different parameters to help built a database and develop other useful applications from this test, such as general guidelines for maximum irrigation rates for leach facilities.

The effect of engine parameters on exhaust emissions from two diesel engines was studied experimentally. Fuel-injection characteristics and intake air conditions were considered as parameters influencing the emissions. Emphasis was placed on the effect of parameter variations on nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions, because diesels generally emit very low levels of carbon monoxide (CO) and unburned hydrocarbons. Emissions other than NOx were at lowest levels when the engines were adjusted for best performance. NOx emissions can be diminished somewhat through variation in fuel-injection characteristics, but there generally are penalties in emissions of CO, smoke, and unburned hydrocarbons or in engine performance. Temperature and composition of intake air have a significant effect on NOx emissions. Levels of NOx are reduced by recirculating the exhaust gas or by adding water to the intake air stream. However, the rate of water added or exhaust gas recirculated must be limited to prevent the degradation of engine performance and increased emissions of CO and smoke. At high exhaust recirculation rates, levels of CO and smoke were increased such that it was necessary to derate the engine and also to use a catalytic system for oxidation of CO.

"The Miami-West Palm Beach belt of silica sand, which may be suitable for the manufacture of high-grade glass, extends 65 miles northward from the neighborhood of Miami to the vicinity of West Palm Beach, The sand presumably originated in the host rocks constituting the oceanward slope of the Appalachian Mountains and the Piedmont Plateau of Georgia and the Carolinas. The sand now lies in a long, narrow, and probably thin belt that forms a dune-capped terrace marking a previous stage of submergence. The highest dune crests appear to be no more than 30 feet above sea level, and the water table is about 10 or 15 feet below the general level of the terrace.The width of the belt in several places is known to be more than a mile, and the thickness of the clean glass sand sampled ranged from 4 to more than 7 feet. Visual inspection and the meager data indicate the existence of bodies of glass sand large enough to supply foreseeable markets.Analyses of three samples indicate that beneficiation would make the sand suitable for the better grades of ordinary and flint glass.The prospective grade and quantity of sand, an available market in Florida for glassware, and the expectation of postwar expansion of the new industry of glass producing justify more detailed exploratory work and beneficiation testing.U. S. Route No. 1, Old Dixie Highway, the Seaboard Railway, and the Florida East Coast Railway, all substantially parallel and usually within a width of a mile or two, run along parts of the belt or between it and the coast. In addition to many streets and unpaved roads, a paved road crosses the belt at right angles about every 5 miles. Numerous towns are situated within or near the belt. Any area selected for a mining, processing, and manufacturing plant would be near a railroad, a highway, and water and also accessible to public utilities.The subtropical climate, famous for its pleasantly warm winters, would preclude seasonal interruption of plant operations."

The Flash Ironmaking Technology being developed at the University of Utah is aimed at producing iron directly from iron oxide concentrate. In this technology, the concentrate is reduced by H2 and CO gas mixtures formed from the partial oxidation of natural gas in a flash reactor. Natural gas represents an economically and environmentally superior reductant/fuel for the flash ironmaking. The rate equations for the reduction kinetics by H2, CO and H2 + CO gas mixtures were determined in the temperature range 1150–1600 °C. These rate equations were applied to experimental results from a laboratory flash reactor using Computational Fluid Dynamics CFD simulation. A new mini-pilot reactor, which is capable of operating at 1150–1550 °C with a concentrate feeding rate of 2–5 kg/h, has been installed. Commissioning of the reactor with an emphasis on preheating of the reactor, production of reducing gas mixtures and the feeding and collection of iron ore concentrate and product particles has been completed.

During the electrowinning (EW) of copper significant quantities of highly toxic vapors (acid mist) are produced due to the liberation of oxygen at the cathodes. Acid mist affects the health of operators, the environment and plant infrastructure. Acid mist can be decreased to acceptable levels by a combination of physical means (e.g. ventilation, plastic spheres over electrolyte) and chemical surfactants that decrease the surface tension of the electrolyte, modifying the way oxygen bubbles burst at the surface of the electrolyte. However, only few chemical surfactants are compatible with electrolytic applications, and they are not always used due to their high costs. This paper describes the application of a novel surfactant of natural origin (commercial name Mistop®) to suppress acid mist in copper EW process. Mistop® contains triterpenic saponins derived from the Chilean quillaja tree Quillaja saponaria Molina. The product is non-toxic, and poses no risks to the environment or to EW operators. Mistop® was tested at a laboratory, pilot plant and industrial scale in the world?s largest copper EW production plant at Radomiro Tomic (RT), CODELCO, Chile. At a Mistop® dosage of 8-9 ppm, acid mist decreased below the value accepted by Chilean regulations (< 0.5 mg/m3). At this dosage, Mistop® represents and economical alternative to chemical surfactants, and it is currently industrially used at RT.

The "frac" method of well stimulation has been applied successfully to all producing formations in the Permian Basin area. During the five years since its development, many changes and improvements have been made in treating materials. procedures, and equipie11t. A number of fluid carrying agents, having different physica1 and chemical properties, have been developed to meet variorus well requirements. The current trend is toward larger gallonage treatments, employing higher injection rates. The use of "down-the-casing" techniques has greatly reduced high surface working pressures, attributable to friction losses resulting from injection throrugh tubing. Petrographic studies of various Permian Basin formations, coordinated with laboratory and well log data, have been found a valuable guide in planning frac treat111o1t.s. A knowledge of the extent (and orientation of naturally occurring fractures and planes of weakness in the formation, aid in predicting the ultimate drainage pattern resulting from the frac treatment. INTRODUCTION The South Permian Basin covers an area in Wcst Texas and New Mexico about onc-half the size of the state of Texas, This vast region has been called the "Permian Basin" for so long that the term will he used here. It includes an area south of the Matador Arch. approximately 250 miles wide and 300 miles long. Structural features of importance within the basin are the Northwest Shelf, Eastern Platform, Midland Basin, Central Basin Platform, and Delaware Basin. The principal producing formations include sand, limestone and dolo-mite, with lesser amounts of shale, anhydrite. chert. and various silicates. All of the producing formations in the Permian Basin have responded to some type of frac treatment. Essentially, a frac treatment may be defined as the injection, into a formation. of a fluid carrying agent containing a particulated solid (usually sand), for the purpose of increasing production. The application of this method of well stimulation to many differing Permian Basin reservoirs has necessitated numerous changes and improvements in carrying agents, solids, service equipment. well equipment. and treating techniques. CARRYING AGENTS A number of different types of fluid carrying agents have been developed since the introduction of the frac method of well stimulation. These agents have different physical and chemical properties, and in many cases the extent of production increase derived from the frac treatment depends on the choice of fluid carrier. The Olympic Dam deposit in South Australia contains 2% copper and 0.06% uranium, which are present as bomite, chalcocite, chalcopyrite, uraninite, coffinite and brannerite. The copper is principally recovered using flotation. The flotation tailings, which contain the bulk of the uranium, and typically 0.3% copper, are leached using sulfuric acid and an oxidant at atmospheric pressure. This paper describes the results from a detailed investigation of the leaching behaviour of this ore. The influence of acid strength, Fe3+ concentration, redox potential and temperature on the dissolution of uranium and copper minerals was studied. Experimental data were obtained from extensive batch leach tests. Mineralogical studies, including SEM analysis of individual mineral grains, were also carried out. The maximum extraction of uranium determined experimentally was in good agreement with that predicted from SEM determination of the proportion of refractory brannerite in the ore. The leaching rate of copper was found to be independent of acidity over the range 20 g L-&apos; to pH 2.0, but was strongly dependent on temperature and Fe3+ concentration. Uranium extraction showed a weak de endence on acidity, Arrhenius temperature dependence and a complex co-dependence on F>+ concentration and redox potential. A kinetic model has been developed, which predicts copper and uranium dissolution. This model will be incorporated into a more comprehensive model that can be used to predict leach performance and reagent consumption for specific ore samples.

Little research has been conducted on the behavior of borehole stemming material under high pressure loading conditions. The methods of selecting stemming particle size and necessary stemming length were previously determined only by trial and error in the field.

Tunnel boring machines (TBMs) excavation is nowadays more and more considered a valuable alternative to conventional tunnelling. As a matter of fact, thanks to its advantages such as greater rate of advance and safer working conditions, the application of TBMs has increased significantly in recent years. Despite the possible excellent performance of TBMs in favourable ground conditions, the advance rates could be significantly slowed down or even obstructed in limiting geological situations. This obviously traduces in potentially longer tunnel construction times and higher costs and, therefore, in a preference for conventional method. One of the major geological hazards encountered during tunnel construction, is related to the presence of fault zones or heavily jointed and fractured rocks. The most common geotechnical problems resulting from tunnelling in these difficult conditions include the instability of the excavation face, instabilities of side-walls producing large overbreaks on the tunnel profile, excessive deformations in case of squeezing grounds, frequently changing stresses in terms of magnitude and direction, high water inflows, etc. The decisions aids for tunnelling (DAT) is a model and a computer code that can be used to evaluate the influence of the uncertainties related to both the geological/geotechnical conditions and the construction process on final tunnel construction time and costs. In this framework, the DAT is used for assessing the effects that challenging ground conditions may have on tunnelling operations in terms of costs and delays. This is done by simulating the tunnel construction considering several geological profiles. The aim of the study is comparing different excavation methods (ie drill and blast versus TBM) in changing ground conditions along the tunnel alignment ranging from good rock, to very poor and fractured formations. INTRODUCTION During the past 40 years, there has been in the United States of America and other industrialised Western countries a distinct displacement in the procurement of minerals from domestic sources towards an increased dependence on imported minerals. This was caused in part by one or each of the following: a lack of local supply of particular minerals, domestic source depletion or exhaustion and the relative ease and inexpensiveness of obtaining minerals from comparatively unexploited sources in underdeveloped and some developing countries, notably in the Middle East, South America, Southern Africa, and Australasia. Governments of the industrialised nations, concerned about the reliance of their economies on imported raw minerals examined both the degree of reliability and the extent of mineral resources in the countries and regions supplying the essential minerals. This brought a painful awareness of the vulnerability of industrialised countries as a result of the possible interruption of their mineral imports. In this regard, the United States of America may be quoted as a case in point: a report by a House of Representatives Subcommittee on Mines and Mining (Santini Subcommittee)1 revealed that the United States in 1980 was dependent on foreign sources for more than 50 per cent for 24 of the 32 minerals essential for national survival. The Subcommittee also acknowledged that although the United States may develop its own alternative energy sources, there are in many cases no substitutes for the strategic + minerals imported from foreign sources, from countries which are often unstable at best, hostile at worst. This resulted in various policy responses as well as contingency measures, amongst other, renewed emphasis on the utilisation of domestic mineral resources, an intensified search for substitutes of critical minerals and increased stockpiling programmes. Increased attention was devoted to analyses of the political and economic conditions prevailing in the regions from which strategic and other minerals are exported to the industrialised countries, and the formulation of policy measures vis-a-vis those regions. One region which attracted a considerable degree of attention has been Southern Africa, and in particular South Africa.2 The Santini Subcommittee affirmed that while the bulk of the minerals imported by the United States is supplied by a number of source countries, a host of critical[t] minerals vital to the well-being of that country (and this includes all the Western industrialised countries) originates from Southern Africa, a region, deservedly referred to as the "Persian Gulf of Minerals". Apart from the Republic of South Africa the mineral-rich countries concerned are Angola (diamonds, iron ore, oil), Botswana (diamonds, coal), South West Africa/Namibia (diamonds, uranium), Zambia (copper, cobalt), Zaire (industrial diamonds, copper, cobalt) and Zimbabwe (gold, nickel, chromium, asbestos). The Subcommittee however noted that, with the exception of cobalt, the greatest portion of the reserves of the critical minerals listed, lies within the borders of South Africa. SOUTH AFRICA A RELIABLE PURVEYOR OF MINERALS In view of the continual instability and political risk, along with the nationalisation of mineral industries in third world countries, importing industrialised nations have in recent years become more and more concerned about security of long-term supply, and have in consequence begun to diversify their mineral enquiries to areas where the following conditions prevail: • Long-standing record of consistency of supply; • An economic system of private enterprise; • Political stability; • A well integrated infrastructure, with a maintenance of transportation and development costs at realistic levels, and • Attractive investment opportunities, with security of the return of profits.

Does your company reward its top people? Does coal or copper pay more? Production or engineering? How is the synfuels industry going to influence mining salaries? Do high salaries attract and retain the best people? Do modern compensation systems ensure fairness or destroy entrepreneurial spirit? With our tax system and high standard of living why are we so salary conscious? Salary is not only important for what it can purchase but it is also a yardstick, measuring how well we are doing. We all need money to pay the bills and maintain our standard-of-living, but once we reach a certain point the psychological ramifications become more important than the purely practical side. Even necessary payments like the mortgage and the car are a function of our egos. Are our choices of cars and homes based on simple transportation and shelter?

"Previously, Gibbs’ phase rule was applied to mass-balanced EH-pH diagrams for the Cu-As-S-H2O system. Diagrams were generated using the stoichiometry of enargite as a basis. In this study, the calculations were expanded to cover the stoichiometries of three other Cu-As-S minerals (tennantite, sinnerite, and lautite) and compared to enargite. Stability regions within the resulting EH-pH diagrams were found to change with stoichiometry such that a particular mineral would predominate if its stoichiometry was used in the calculation. Solution speciation was also found to vary, with thioarsenate being the best example. This stoichiometric effect helps to explain results reported in the literature and would be difficult to realize if it were not for mass-balanced calculations. INTRODUCTION A comprehensive thermodynamic review has recently been conducted on the aqueous copper-arsenic-sulfur system (Gow et al., 2014a-d). The free energies of over 100 species were collected from various authors and thermodynamic databases to produce mass-balanced EH-pH diagrams, using the thermodynamic equilibrium calculation software, STABCAL (Huang, 2014). The full database was listed and discussed by Gow et al. (2014A). Resulting diagrams were generated for enargite and confirmed with Raman spectroscopy using bulk mineral electrodes in order to identify reactions spectroelectrochemically. Theoretical calculations agreed well with the experimental results under alkaline conditions (Gow et al., 2014a), acid conditions (Gow et al., 2014b), and alkaline sulfide leaching conditions (Gow et al., 2014c). In this study, additional mass-balanced EH-pH diagrams are generated by changing the copper-arsenic-sulfur stoichiometry from enargite (Cu3AsS4) to tennantite (Cu12As4S13), sinnerite (Cu6As4S9) and lautite (CuAsS). Regions for the thermodynamically stable species are shown to change with the four different mineral compositions. Potential leach conditions, both for co-dissolution and selective dissolution techniques, were examined for differences in predominant species according to changing copper-to-arsenic ratios, sulfur compositions, and sulfur oxidation states."

THE classification and preparation of non-ferrous scrap metals is a subject of interest to every individual and corporation that employs in its processes of manufacture non-ferrous metals and alloys and accumulates in such manufacture scrap from these materials for disposition in the form of turnings, borings, short ends, punchings, clippings, grindings, washings, etc. All too frequently the disposition of such scrap is left to individuals who have no knowledge of the subject either from a metallurgical or a commercial standpoint, or both. Much money is thus lost which with a little more intelligent effort might be saved, and in this day of fierce competition and small profits such an opportunity cannot be ignored. The Mineral Resources of the United States for the year 1925, the latest issue available (Part 1, page 221), gives the secondary non-ferrous metals of certain classes recovered in the United States for the year 1924 to 1925 as shown in Table 1. The figures are tabulated simply to give the reader some idea of the scope of the secondary non-ferrous metal industry. Approximately 900,000 tons of an annual value of $244,000,000 were recovered in the year cited. In 1916 (again using the Mineral Resources of the United States as authority) the tonnage reclaimed was approximately 632,000 tons and the value, because of the high prices for metals prevailing at that time, amounted to $265,000,000. It is not the purpose of this paper to discuss smelting and refining operations or the feasibility of an organization, primarily engaged in some other activity, conducting smelting and refining operations to convert its own non-ferrous scrap metals and alloys. The classification and preparation of these non-ferrous materials is a preliminary step, regardless of what subsequent operations the material may pass through or where these operations may be conducted. For that reason the subject can be readily discussed without any reference to subsequent activities. Space must be provided, with suitable handling facilities, scales and the necessary storage bins where the material may be accumulated. The scope of the activity, the nature of the industry and the tonnage handled will determine, in a large measure, what preparation, if any, it may be desirable to give these scrap materials to put them in the best marketable condition. A indústria de pigmentação, na busca de matérias primas alternativas e de menor custo, vem apresentando potencial para absorver resíduos que contenham elevados teores de ferro sob a forma de óxidos. Neste sentido, esta pesquisa objetivou avaliar a viabilidade do uso de PAE para pigmentação da fração argamassa do concreto. Para tanto, foram moldados três traços diferentes, com teores de adição de PAE e de pigmento comercial de 0% e 5%, mantendo-se uma relação água/aglomerante de 0,4. Para cada traço moldaram-se corpos de prova destinados aos ensaios de resistência à compressão e de medições colorimétricas. A partir dos resultados obtidos, verificou-se que o PAE apresenta potencial para pigmentação de argamassas. Entretanto, verificou-se retardo na pega do material, o que pode vir a prejudicar a desforma.

This paper presents an analysis of fracture depth and intensity due to subsidence over the longwall panel. Sonic reflection techniques were utilized to determine fracture depth, and a variation of p-wave velocity was used as an indication of the fracture intensity. Instrumentation has been tested for consistency and accuracy first in the laboratory using small scale models, then applied in the field in two mine sites with different mining geometry and geologic conditions. A new sonic viewer was utilized for sonic velocity measurements. Regular hammering method was on acoustic source. The results were concurrent with monitored horizontal strain profiles and measured open fractures over the longwall panels.

Introduction Considerable attention has of late been attracted to the area surrounding Nimpkish lake, on northern Vancouver island, by the discovery of important rich copper deposits. In less than two years some 200 mineral claims have been staked in a small area, and at least two groups have very promising surface showings. During the summer of 1929, the writer spent one month investigating the general geology and mineral deposits of the region, and, although no detailed work has as yet been done in the field or in the laboratory, the importance of the mineral discoveries and the lack of geological information available to the public warrants a preliminary paper on the district. The district is, from a mining viewpoint, very accessible. Boats from Vancouver call at Englewood, in Beaver cove, four times a week. From Englewood, a first-class logging railway, operated by the Wood, .English Company, extends to the northeast corner of Nimpkish lake. The fifteen-mile trip from the north to the south end of the lake is made by boat, two tugs being maintained by the logging company. The whole trip from Englewood can easily be made in one day. The known mineral deposits lie immediately east of the southern part of the lake, four miles or less from the shore. A fair trail, four miles ? long, leads from the lake to the Nimpkish Copper group. Apart from this trail and an old logging railway grade which follows the east side of Klaanch river for several miles, no trails exist on the southeast side of the lake.

he Melbourne City Link project will complete a missing link between two existing major freeways in the Melbourne road network, providing a much needed bypass of the Central Business District for through traffic. The project, which is being financed under a BOOT arrangement with the Victorian State Government, involves the upgrading of significant stretches of existing freeway and the construction of new sections involving viaducts and tunnels. The tunnel sections, which are the focus of this paper, are beneath residential and business areas, the Yarra River, the Royal Botanic Gardens and significant sporting facilities where surface construction would be either impossible or unacceptable (reference Figure 1). The shorter, 1.62 km west bound Domain tunnel comprises two cut and cover sections through Olympic Park then the Yarra River, the driven section of 0.68 km length and exits through a common cut and cover section with the east bound tunnel under St Kilda Road and Sturt Street. The longer 3.76 km east bound tunnel commences at the common portal, through cut and cover under St Kilda Road then 2.86 km of driven section before exiting at a cut and cover section at Burnley. The longer Burnley tunnel has an access and ventilation shaft at approximately its mid point.
