A fim de relacionar e disponibilizar os dados obtidos e transformá-los em informação existem diversos softwares com a capacidade de gerar e correlacionar KPIs e análises, evidenciando gaps, direcionando melhorias e até mesmo dar suporte à priorização de investimentos. Esse tipo de abordagem é de extrema importância para que se possam alcançar economias significativas para todas as operações do segmento de MMM.

The influence of the collector structure on the amine (RNH2, R=alkyl) flotation of quartz has been systematically investigated using a modified Hallimond microflotation cell. This study focuses on the effect of varying chain length, branching in the alkyl group R, polyfunctionality of the collector molecule, and alkyl substitution on the nitrogen atom. In addition, adsorption at the solution/air interface and electrokinetic results for the solid/solution interface were employed to further elucidate the role ad the interrelation of the structural parameters in the flotation process. Estimates of an electrical double layer attractive energy between the bubble and the solid particle are made.

COMBUSTION of coal and transfer of heat from flames and gases to boiler surfaces continue to be of great interest to engineers here and abroad. Numerous investigations have been in progress to improve furnace and boiler performance and economy. The importance of better understanding of the processes and opportunities for improvement is apparent when it is remembered that heat from at least 500 million tons of coal a year the world over is being transferred to boiler water at efficiencies ranging mostly between 50 and 90 pct. Even slight gains in efficiency, economy, and labor saving become very significant when multiplied by the enormous quantity of fuel consumed. Also the competitive position of the large coal, oil, and gas industries in satisfying the fuel consumers is greatly affected by the achievements made through technical progress with each fuel. This paper is part of a continuing activity of Bituminous Coal Research, Inc., to extend the knowledge of coal utilization for steam generation and to seek promising directions for future research and development in cooperation with others. Particularly in the latter regard, numerous interviews were held during the last three years to seek the experience and advice of boiler and combustion- equipment manufacturers, electric-utility executives, and fuel engineers. A wealth of published information was also reviewed, which together with the interviews pointed to the advisability of further work on ash and sulphur control.

IT has been ascertained in recent years that certain rocktypes, geological formations and structural conditions may be used as fairly reliable guides, when prospecting in recognized mineral belts or mining districts, with a reasonable certainty of discovering "pay-ore;" and that such is considered as a practically established conclusion may be inferred from a perusal of the recent reports of the U. S. Geological Survey and the literature of the several scientific societies discussing minim, geology, and kindred subjects. Cripple Creek is no exception to this conclusion, and the rock-type or association, rather than the structural condition, is the most infallible guide.† These guides consist of four, possibly five, dike-rocks, three of which are extremely basic, while the fourth is an acid rock of an entirely dissimilar character. The basic rocks are nepheline-basalt, limburgite, feldspar-basalt and tephrite. There are grounds, however, for believing that the two latter are subdivisions of one type, and therefore will be described under one head. The acid rock is quartz-porphyry. Nepheline-basalt is-a rock encountered in but few localities elsewhere on this continent, and occurs in narrow dikes cutting various formations. When typical‡ it is composed of

The Bureau of Mines evaluated 191 composites from the central Mesabi Range, Minn., chiefly by reductive roasting and magnetic separation. After reductive roasting and magnetic separation at minus 325 mesh, 28 composites produced concentrates that contained an average of 66.0 percent iron with less than 10 percent silica. Recovery of contained iron was over 90 percent. Natural magnetic material in excess of 5 percent was present in 142 composites. Trial flotation tests were used to evaluate three samples unresponsive to reductive roasting and magnetic separation procedures, and satisfactory concentrates having low silica contents (averaging 6.6 percent) were achieved.

Primary sulphidic gold ores in the Archean provinces of Western Australia can be broadly sub-divided into pyritic, pyrite-telluride, arsenical and antimonial types. Pyritic ores contain only native gold, and are essentially not refractory. Arsenical ores almost always carry some invisible gold, and may vary from mildly to highly refractory. Pyrite-telluride ores contain gold-bearing tellurides, and are refractory to varying degrees. Antimonial ores usually contain aurostibite, and may be very difficult to process. A classification scheme for metallurgical processing, based on mineralogy, is proposed for the ores, and implications for processing are discussed.

"3D finite element models of the Segmentally Lined Shaft (SLS) structure are simulated as means of numerical analyses of the system’s structural behavior. Top-down constructed rings, comprised of precast concrete segments, create a large diameter, relatively shallow underground space that can be utilized for various applications. To further investigate the effects of soil conditions and different loadings on the shaft structure, the FE model was run under various boundary conditions. Simulations include a) effects of various soil layers on the SLS, including a circumferential boundary of modified ground, b) effects of various soil layers on the SLS without any ground modification, c) Seismic analysis of the SLS with ground modification and d) Seismic analysis of the SLS without any ground modification. Comparing the analyses outcomes emphasizes the significance of the inclusion of the ground modification boundary in the structural performance of the SLS. INTRODUCTION TO SLS Underground structures are classically built rectangular in shape, which normally requires a two-step construction process beginning with installation of temporary shoring to support earth loads during the excavation, followed by the construction of the permanent structure. Attractive and practical alternatives are circular shafts referred to as segmentally lined shafts (SLS). The structure consists of a stacked series of rings formed from an assemblage of precast concrete segments. Top-down constructed systems of large diameter, relatively shallow SLS structures provide both temporary earth support during excavation and permanent structural support for many civil and building applications. The circular shafts sustain the lateral earth pressure mainly through hoop-stress mechanism, resulting in improved stability and structural efficiency. Cylindrical shell structures with large diameter to wall thickness ratios are prone to buckling under external pressure. In typical designs of small diameter shafts and tunnel linings with small diameter to wall thickness ratios, nonlinear buckling analysis (i.e., nonlinear geometric analysis) is usually not considered, since the buckling capacities for those structures are much higher than typical pressures encountered at their design depths. With an economically viable wall thickness, buckling becomes a critical issue, which should be addressed, for circular shafts with very large diameters. In the design and construction of the SLS, the stability of the structure can be improved by modifying the soil surrounding the circumference of the shaft to a limited thickness and to about 10 ft below the finished shaft structure. This thick wall of soil mixed with cement creates a composite integrated structure while serving additional purposes such as ground control and ground water seepage cutoff."

Geologist, Pennsylvania Geological Survey THE following tables have been compiled from the annual reports of the Inspectors of Mines, to determine the percentages of fatal and non-fatal casualties from roof-falls and explosions of fire-damp. As we cannot assume that every accident has been recorded by the inspectors; as many casualties terminating fatally after the lapse of a considerable period, are inevitably recorded as "non-fatal;" and as clerical errors may have crept into the compilation,* the figures of these tables cannot be considered absolutely correct, but the summary is sufficiently reliable to show the features I wish to differentiate. Under the heading a Miscellaneous" are included all accidents not directly attributable to explosions of fire-damp, roof-falls or falls of coal. Prominent among the numerous causes included under this head are premature or delayed explosion of blasts, accidental explosion of powder or cartridges, accidents from mine cars, falls in shafts, machine accidents, sliding of loose coal in pitching breasts, sltffouration by choke-damp, etc., comprising in all 48 per cent of the total number of casualties. * Compiled by Mr. Maxwell Chapman

Early in the nineteenth century, coal from Clearfield County entered the eastern commercial market. Ashley reports that coal was moved down the Susquehanna River by ark from Clearfield to Columbia, a distance of 260 miles, as early as 18o4. Around 1850, the famous Moshannon or Lower Freeport bed was discovered. Several years later the Moshannon Basin was developed extensively, and the coal from this area soon acquired an enviable reputation as a high-quality industrial fuel. Today much of the original Moshannon Basin coal is worked out, and the Lower Kittanning bed has replaced the Lower Freeport bed as the principal source of production in southeast Clearfield County. With depletion of the thick underground deposits, the importance 'of Clearfield County as a coal Producer would have diminished rapidly, if it had not been for strip mining the thinner beds. About 60 percent of the coal produced in the county is strip-mined, and the trend toward this mining method is expected to continue as the older underground operations are exhausted. Many strip mines are working in beds that are too thin to be recovered economically by any other method.

The emergence of residuals management as a planning and management tool in the mineral industry has been recently accelerated by the proliferation of environmental regulation and its associated costs. Residuals management practices allow for the early determination and integration of both production and environmental goals in the development of management strategies to arrive at the most cost effective, environ- mentally sound solution. The term residuals management was in actuality derived from the substitution of the word residual for the term ?pollutant? or ?waste?. A residual can be defined as a non-product output having no value in existing markets or a value less than the cost of marketing it. The values of the residual can be determined by time, technology, government policy, market conditions, etc. Residuals basically fit into two classes -- materials which are composed of liquid, gaseous or solids; and, energy, which mainly consists of heat and noise. These residuals are interrelated and can be modified by adding materials and/ or energy, which also may become a residual; thus, lending themselves to alternate disposal schemes to control the adverse effects.

This study investigates the directional blasting of a 90° slit charge structure using laboratory experiments and field tests. A 90° slit charge suitable for the corner of roadway is proposed. After the slit charge blasting, two long main cracks along the slit, and several short secondary cracks in other directions. The slit charge not only significantly reduces damage to the surrounding rock, but also improves the quality of the roadway contour. In addition, a comprehensive damage evaluation system of the roadway contour and the surrounding rock is constructed using digital image analysis, borehole televiewer, and CT scanning.

The U.S. Bureau of nines evaluated the potential availability of tungsten from 57 tungsten mines and deposits in 19 market economy countries (1). The 38 properties that were producing at the time this study was performed contain approximately 375,000 tons1 of W03 (tungsten trioxide). The total estimated recoverable resource from all properties studied, both producers and nonproducers, was 1.2 million tons W03 (demonstrated level). Approximately 143,000 tons of W03 is recoverable from producing properties with costs at or below the January 1983 market prices. The study indicates that by 1990 production from currently operating mines in market economy countries will decrease as their demonstrated resources become exhausted. Some of this potential decline may be offset by lower than anticipated levels of market demand, discoveries of additional resources at producing mines, development of other known deposits, and/or discoveries of new deposits. Development of new tungsten resources in market economy countries will likely result in costs higher than exist at currently producing properties. The People's Republic of China has been steadily increasing production and export of tungsten in various form and currently supplies about 25 pct of U.S. imports. China's tungsten mines are large, high-grade operations capable of producing at relatively low cost. These factors, coupled with China's apparent need for foreign exchange, could lead to further expansions of production and exports from China, with a consequent increased dependence by market economy countries on China for tungsten requirements and a threat to the survival of the market economy countries' tungsten industries.

This paper describes block -caving methods and practices of the Bagdad Copper Corp. in Yavapai County , Ariz . It is one of a series being prepared by the Federal Bureau of Mines on mining methods , practices , and costs in various mining districts of the United States . The story of the Bagdad caving operation is of particular interest because the ore body was not as thick as at other mines where the method had been successful . At Bagdad the caving method worked very well as a smallscale operation of 300 tons per day but was abandoned when production was increased to 2,000 tons per day . The Bagdad mine is in western Yavapai County , Ariz . , about 22 miles northwest of Hillside , a station on the Phoenix -Ash Fork branch of the Atchison , Topeka & Santa Fe Railway system ( fig . 1 ) . Copper ore now is mined by open -pit methods . The ore is concentrated , and the concentrates are trucked to Hillside and shipped by rail to a custom smelter . Some molybdenum sulfide is produced as a byproduct . This report gives a brief history of the district , describes the ore de- posit , and outlines the methods of prospecting , exploration , and estimation of ore . Development and former underground mining , including stope preparation , stoping , and transportation , are described . Extraction of ore , production rates , miscellaneous operations related to mining , wage and contract systems , and method of concentration are described . The final section discusses mining costs . The underground mine was visited by the author several times between 1937 and 1942 , and some information has been drawn from personal notes . The property again was visited in June 1957 , and maps and plans for this paper were furnished by the company at that time ; they have been edited to conform with Bureau of Mines format . The underground mine could not be visited then because it had been closed in 1948 when open -pit mining was begun .

An evident connection exists between chemical and calorific phenomena: the most important, of our sources of heat, the combustion of coal, is nothing else than a chemical reaction. Not satisfied with this indefinite statement, investigators have attempted to establish a more precise correlation between these two orders of phenomena, and have questioned whether there be not a necessary connection between the possibility of a chemical reaction and the algebraic sign of the quantity of heat which it would call into play (i.e., liberate or absorb). This question possesses the highest interest for metallurgical chemists. But the study of it by experimental methods only could not completely elucidate it. To arrive at a definite solution, it was necessary to appeal to a science much more general than chemistry,—namely, that of energetics, which embraces all the physical sciences. We can place absolute confidence in its conclusions, because they rest upon a proposition which can scarcely be denied, namely, the impossibility of The main facts in the history of the development o‡ this field of Triassic coals have been already set before the Institute in the papers of Mr. Oswald J. Heinrich, a former member of the Institute and the superintendent of the mines at Midlothian. † From these and other references to the field, it appears that coal was known to exist here as early as 1701; for on the 10th of May that year Colonel Byrd reported to the Colonial Council of Virginia the discovery of coal. Coal was mined from 1770 to 1780; but the amount shipped is unknown. It was much used in Richmond at this early date for gratefires. In 1789 shipments were made to northern ports. During the first half of the century just passed, mining operations attained in this field their greatest development, the number and extent of the collieries and the tonnage of coal raised per annum being greater for that period than for any similar period since. The maximum annual output exceeded 100,000 tons, while in two years only since the Civil War has the amount of coal raised exceeded 50,000 tons. This field covers about 150 sq. in. Its outline and the position of the strata in which the coal-outcrops occur are shown on the accompanying map, reproduced from the latest survey by the U. S. Geological Survey. Mining has been carried on along the margins of the area, often in the primitive manner in vogue at the beginning of operations, by means of shafts and slopes, usually too small in cross-section to permit the proper working of the beds. In 1986, at the request of the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, the U.S. Bureau of Mines studied part of the 256,430-acre Alvord Desert and part of the 22,240-acre East Alvord Wilderness Study Area (OR-002-074 and OR-002-073A, respectively), in order to evaluate their identified mineral resources. The study areas are located in Harney and Malheur Counties, OR, about 25 mi northeast of the small village of Fields. There are no mines, prospects, or identified mineral resources inside the study areas. Basalt flows within the study areas contain chalcedony-lined vugs and banded agate which may be of interest to rock hounds. An ignimbrite flow contains perlitic material, but crystalline contaminants make it unsuitable for commercial uses. Lacustrine (lake) sediments contain diatomite and clays, and evaporite crusts contain boron too low grade to profitably mine. Small quantities of common opal and petrified wood occur which might be of possible interest to rock hounds. Some of the petrified wood is black, free of fractures, and polishes well; it may be suitable as backing material for soft, thin, and brittle gemstones, such as precious opal. The lacustrine sediments also contain black, fetid layers which have above background, but economically insignificant concentrations of zinc, cobalt, nickel, barium, iron, manganese, aluminum, and potassium. Large quantities of fine-grained dune sands within the study areas are too far from markets for economic consideration. Ephemeral streams in the study areas contain small amounts of placer gold of no economic interest. The western portions of both study areas are reported to have moderate favorability for occurrences of natural gas, and both study areas are reported to have high favorability for the occurrence of geothermal resources. As of December 1986, oil and gas leases covered 3,100 acres in the study areas.

"San Ignacio de Morococha S.A es una empresa que está innovando sus operaciones, por lo que cuando se dio la necesidad de mejorar el diseño de la malla de perforación para labores mineras subterráneas de un cuadrante de 4 m x 4 m; se inició un trabajo de investigación para poder aplicar el Modelo Matemático de Holmberg, para luego ser implementado en otras labores mineras del mismo cuadrante. Al realizar pruebas, se obtuvo resultados satisfactorios mostrando avances ya no de 2.75m, sino avances superiores a 3m. Paulatinamente se realizaron ajustes de la disposición de los taladros, burden y espaciamiento hasta unificar el nuevo diseño."
