The mining industry collects a significant amount of operational data. However, gleaning useful information from the terabytes of data is difficult, and not just because of the sheer volume of the data. Therefore, an automated tool was developed at the University of Alaska Fairbanks to go through data and apply sophisticated statistical and neural network techniques in order to identify the data streams that are important to a process. This paper presents results from the tool as applied to SAG mill data from a gold mine. The results were compared to results achieved earlier with available commercial modeling tools. The comparison indicates that there was little or no loss in performance by automating the very complicated process of neural network modeling. Therefore, the intent of the exercise, to examine if complicated modeling tasks can be automated, was realized. Mining Engineering, 2011, Vol. 63, No. 12, pp. 52-54. A multi-lift benching cut-and-fill mining method was adopted at Asamera Minerals (U. S.), Inc.'s Cannon Mine to balance the goals of high productivity and near 100 percent recovery with the need to minimize subsidence. High strength backfill was required to provide effective long-term overburden support and safe working conditions during the pillar recovery operations. Operational designs were evaluated using numerical modeling to predict global mine stability and backfill strength requirements. These models incorporated sequential mining of primary stopes, backfilling of primary stopes and recovery of pillars, and have been transferred to the mine operations group for use in evaluating different production sequences. The modeling has provided a better understanding of the structural response of the mine to excavation of the primary stopes and removal of the pillars. Predictions about the transfer of overburden weight to the abutments, pillars and cemented fill pillars have provided a criterion to evaluate mining plans and production sequence. Comparison of these predictions with actual mine structural performance has developed confidence in the design of the mining method and in the geomechanical design methods being employed. Primary mining of the B-North zone is nearly complete, and the stopes have been generally stable, as projected in the original design. "The U.S. coal mining industry uses about 100 million rock anchors per year. ASTM F432 specifies the requirements for rock bolts on mines but does not address corrosion. Corrosion has been found to be an issue in Australian coal mines (Hebblewhite et al., 2003 and Villaescusa et al., 2007), where the problem has been researched and stress corrosion has been found to be a significant cause of rock falls. Corrosion is also a major concern for underground civil construction in the U.S. but has not been considered an issue or adequately researched in coal mines. Underground conditions are conducive to corrosion mainly because of water quality and humid conditions. There is a perception, however, that when bolts are fully grouted, adequate corrosion protection is offered to the steel. Research has shown that this is not necessarily the case, due to the formation of micro-cracks as the resin sets and with subsequent rock movement shearing the resin column. This paper outlines a method to determine the corrosion potential of bolts used in long-term excavations and suggests ways to mitigate such effects based on research conducted in the lab and on three mines.INTRODUCTIONResearch on rock anchor corrosion in mines has not been extensive enough in the past, and the effects of several factors in the mine atmosphere and waters are not clearly understood. WYSOR.-In regular practice, largely foreign ores. J. S. UNGER.-How much per unit does it cost to produce that? R. J. WYSOR.-You might say it does not cost anything; we do not change our blast-furnace practice at all to obtain the dust. Although it has been a profitable byproduct, I would rather not have it unless we could reclaim it on a large scale, as we would have better working stoves. J. S. UNGER.-Does the trade take it as readily as natural salts? W. J. WYSOR.-The fertilizer dealers have been anxious to get it. This did not happen, however, until the war started. J. S., UNGER.-They have been willing to take anything since the war started. R. J. WYSOR.-Yes. About 5 years ago we undertook a corresponding investigation on the recovery of potash in the cement industry. Representative samples of raw mix and ground clinker were collected from the different cement plants in this country with a view to analyzing each sample for potash. With the data thus obtained and knowing the ratio between the raw mix and the cement produced and the output of the latter, we thought it possible to calculate approximately for each plant the quantity of potash that escapes daily from the kilns. "Plant owners and operators, plant designers and grinding mill manufacturers are giving much attention to the design and manufacture of autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding mills, particularly the mills that have large diameters and draw power up to 10,000 hp and greater. Reliable designs giving long operating lives are required in today 's ore processing plants.This paper reviews bench-scale and pilot-plant testing to determine first if the ore is suitable .to be ground by these methods and then reviews the data obtained from pilot-plant testing that is used to select the mills and the grinding circuit. The paper then discusses the use of the pilot-plant results to design the mills. The most important pilot-plant data used for mill design are power and the amount of ball charge to be used. The mill size selected is a combination of these factors. Pilot-plant data not only establish power requirements, but can be used in the selection of the type of drive, variable speed or fixed speed, and the operating procedure to be followed. This leads into the mill control circuit to be used. The total charge in the mill, the type of drive and mill discharge arrangements are needed in the calculation of stresses and bearing loads. Conclusions reached from pilot-plant work are used to obtain data for process design, and autogenous and semiautogenous mill design should be part of any test program incorporating either or both of these grinding methods."

Many fires have occurred in the mines of Butte in recent years, and while all have been of a serious nature, simply because they were mine fires, six of them have been especially dangerous in respect to loss of life and property, and the expense of extinguishing or controlling them. It is not my intention to discuss the relative merits of methods used in fighting these different fires because the conditions under which they occurred varied in each case, and it was not always advisable to expend the large sum of money necessary to actually extinguish them if they could be bulk-headed off from the rest of the mine. It is needless to say that everything possible has been done to check all fires at the beginning, but without success in some cases; and it has then become necessary to bulkhead all connections to them, in which state several now exist. The mine fires of Butte, or fires in any mine, may be divided into two classes, namely: Those occurring in accessible workings, and those occurring in inaccessible workings; because these two conditions govern to the greatest extent the methods of fighting fires. Accessibility and inaccessibility in the case of mine fires concern not only new open workings and old closed workings, respectively, but also the condition of the ventilation in and about those places. When a fire is accessible at the start it should not be difficult to confine it to a small area and extinguish it in a relatively short time, but when it is impossible to actually reach a fire in old filled, abandoned workings, or there is no opening by which the gases may be conducted away from the fire zone, then the time consumed in changing those conditions permits the fire to increase to such an extent that it is a long, hard fight to overcome it. These different conditions have been met in Butte, and of the six fires of serious proportions the Steward mine fire and the High Ore-Modoc mine fire were in new accessible workings and were extinguished in a month or so. PrEvious to the introduction of the motor vehicle the broken stone or macadam' road met the conditions of rural horse-drawn traffic better than any other type of road, but under fast motor traffic it has been proved to be quite unsatisfactory, and necessitates high maintenance charges. Such a road depends for its success upon the fact that the rock dust fills the voids between the stones and acts as a cement or binder. Under ideal conditions it should be constructed of rock so suited to the volume and character of horse traffic that only enough fine dust is worn from the stones of which the road is composed to take the place of that carried off by wind and rain; and when these conditions are met, the fine dust resulting from the wear of traffic forms with the stone a smooth, impervious shell, shedding the surface water and protecting the foundation. With increase in the number and speed of motor vehicles, however, it was soon found that the cost of maintenance also increased, until at the present day highway engineers consider the old method of constructing and maintaining broken-stone roads increasingly inadequate, and are introducing every known type of binding material other than rock dust to cement the stone together. Among the most prominent types of products in use are those produced from our various petroleums. That the value of modern methods of road preservation was appreciated in this country much earlier than we have been accustomed to believe is demonstrated by the recent revival of an old patent which was granted to one John Martineau, of Elbridge, N. Y., in 1834. Petroleum had, of course, not been discovered at that time, but he claims as his invention and improvement "The application of tar, turpentine, or any of that class of tenacious, cohesive substances, reduced before use to a fluid state, and that state used as a cement, to apply to, and combine with sand, gravel, pebbles, and pulverized stone, such as is used for a Mc-Adam road, or cobble stone, the interstices of coarser material being in all cases filled,'as well as may be, with sand and gravel and cemented with tar or turpentine, to form the wearing face or surface of streets,

A semi-continuous bench-scale, countercurrent-decantation system, in which the ore was moved countercurrently to the flow of leaching solution, was used to conduct acid-leaching tests on uranium ore with the aid of bacteria. This method, which involved a low degree of agitation, was successfully applied to extract uranium in practical amounts and at practical rates. The acidity of the leaching solution was the main variable investigated in the bench-scale tests done at the Mines Branch, Ottawa. Over 90 11er cent of the uranium was extracted in a six-stage system. The results suggest that this technique could be ap-plied in the utilization of bacterial oxidation and leaching as a method for treating Elliot Lake uranium ore.

From measurements of carbide precipitation rates in a iron it was concluded that the carbides nucleated on dislocations in both strained and unstrained samples, except for the latter at lower temperatures and higher carbon concentrations, where there were more muclei than could form on the dislocations. The equation of Cottrell and Bilby for the segregation of atoms to dislocations was found to be inapplicable to this system. No satisfactory theory for the growth process is available. A study of the rate at which a second phase separates from solid solution can frequently reveal much about the mechanism of separation. There are still many features of the precipitation of carbon from a iron that are not understood, although this system has been examined extensively. To provide more insight into the mechanism of carbide precipitation in a iron, rates of this process were measured at different temperatures, carbon concentrations, and densities of dislocations in the iron. The concentra- tion of carbon in solution was followed from the height of the internal-friction peak; this height is directly proportional to the amount of carbon in solution and is not affected by the growing carbide particles. In this paper these rates are compared with those found by earlier investigators, and the mechanism of precipitation is discussed in light of these results as well as two earlier studies1, 2 and the electron microscopic work reported in the preceding paper. Alfred Stansfield, Montreal, Canada:—In Professor Howe's paper on the position of Ae3, he shows its industrial importance in determining the temperature to which steel should be heated for " grain refining." Several years ago I carried out a research on the " burning " of steel and found that while hypo-eutectoid steel should be heated to Ae3, hyper-eutectoid steel that has been very much overheated must be reheated to the curve Sa on the carbon-iron diagram, in order to redissolve the pro-eutectoid cementite and thus to obtain recrystallization and grain-refining. This treatment was necessarily only partly successful, and I should like to ask whether the conditions of heat treatment for refining overheated high-carbon steels have been ascertained. Speaking of the &'Persistence of Solidificational Segregation " Professor Howe quotes an experiment made by Mr. Stead in which a bar of 1.2 per cent. carbon steel was immersed in a large mass of molten blast-furnace slag and allowed to cool with it. The steel was heated ; above the solidus (curve An on the carbon-iron diagram), but below the liquidus (curve AB). A drop of eutectic carbon-iron alloy, rich in carbon, had liquated out and hung below the bar. This agrees exactly with my own observations on the burning of steel, but my interpretation differs somewhat from that of Professor Howe. Professor Howe considers that the fusion of a part of the metal (rich in carbon) shows that the solidificational irregularities of composition had persisted through the rolling and heat treatment of the steel, as otherwise no part of the steel would have been sufficiently fusible to melt. It does not appear to me that such an explanation is necessary. A piece of steel represented in temperature and composition by any point within the area ABa will ultimately resolve itself into a solid phase and a liquid phase in equilibrium with each other. It may appear that if the steel were absolutely uniform no fusion could take place, but, the smallest nucleus of high-carbon, fusible alloy would ultimately bring about this separation into liquid and solid phases, by diffusion of the carbon from the solid to the liquid areas. The response of feldspar flotation to tallow diamine dioleate collector in the presence of sulfuric acid is studied using batch flotation experiments. Application of this non-hydrofluoric acid (non-HF) reagent system in the flotation of mineralogically and chemically different feldspar ores is compared with that of the conventional hydrofluoric acid system. The dependence of flotation recovery and concentrate grade on feed particle size distribution, conditioning time, pulp density, and pH, combined variation of collector and acid addition rates, sodium hydroxide concentration in the collector solution, and initial pulp pH prior to conditioning is studied. The results have been discussed in relation to applicability of the non-HF system to plant trials, and the nature of the collector adsorption in the selective flotation of feldspar.

"The Langmuir model has been widely used for the coal-methane sorption process via an isothermal test. However, even though the temperature-dependent Langmuir model were recognized theoretically and experimentally, the quantitative relationship between the Langmuir’s constants (a & b) and temperature have not been clarified and confirmed by lab test data. This paper collects 158 methane-coal sorption data under different temperatures, which apply the Langmuir model to consider the relationship between Langmuir’s constants (a & b) and temperature (see APPENDIX I). Even though the Langmuir model cannot be used to show the physical state of methane adsorption on coal, it is widely used because of its simplicity and the reasonable explanation of its parameters (a & b). The results from these published isothermal tests confirm that 1) there is no consistent relationship between Langmuir’s constant-a and temperature; 2) the Langmuir model is a temperature-dependent model, and the temperature-dependent feature is mainly shown by the relationship between Langmuir’s constant-b and temperature; 3) The relationship between Langmuir’s constant-b and temperature can be described by both the exponential and linear relationship with dried coal. This paper provides a database for temperature-dependent Langmuir’s model, which can be used for reservoir simulation of coalbed methane reservoir, coal seam degasification modeling for underground coal mines considering the heating effect induced by geotherm and heat injection (via hot water, hot steam, ultrasonic, etc.). INTRODUCTION The isothermal test for gas sorption on coal is one of the fundamental tests in Coalbed Methane (CBM) recovery fields, such as underground coal mine methane degasification, CBM gas-in-place estimation, and carbon dioxide sequestration in un-minable coal seams. Generally, two methods, volumetric and gravimetric, are employed to obtain isothermal data (Bush, A. & Gensterblum, Y., 2012). Based on these two approaches, a series of commercial and self-assembled instruments are built and several calculation methods are used to obtain isothermal data (Bush, A. & Gensterblum, Y., 2012, Gasparik, K., 2014; Goodman, A. L., et al, 2004; Zhang, L., et al, 2013). In the post-processing stage, many models are provided to analyze isothermal data in order to understand the storage mechanism of gas in coal. Common models include the Langmuir model (and its extended forms), the pore-filling model, multilayer adsorption model (BET), and the Gibbs’ model. The West Elk Mine is located near Somerset, Colorado approximately 70 miles southeast of Grand Junction, Colorado and 72 miles southwest of Glenwood Springs, Colorado on state highway 133 (Figure 1). The West Elk Mine was opened January 20, 1982 as the Mount Gunnison #1 Mine operated by the West Elk Coal Company, a division of ARCO Coal. In the early 1990?s ARCO changed the mine name to West Elk Mine and the operating company was renamed Mountain Coal Company. Arch Coal, Inc. purchased the West Elk Mine in 1998. West Elk Mine has produced coal from three different seams. Coal was first mined from the F Seam, the upper most seam in the stratigraphic sequence, from 1982 through 1991. Coal was produced from the B Seam, the lower most seam, starting with continuous miners in 1991 and transitioning to longwall mining in 1992and continued on through October 2008. The development of the E Seam, which is the middle seam in the stratigraphic column, started in 2004 with longwall production commencing in 2008. The ventilation conversion from exhausting to forcing for the E Seam portion of the West Elk Mine was implemented in late October 2009.

A blasting project was undertaken at the Teck Alaska Red Dog Mine to determine the extent that Semi-Autogenous Grinding (SAG) mill throughput could be increased by using electronic detonators. The Julius Kruttschnitt Mineral Research Centre (JKMRC) blast fragmentation, jaw crusher, and SAG mill breakage models were used to relate changes in the blast fragmentation measured with the SPLIT image analysis system to the SAG mill performance. For optimum performance a SAG mill requires a particular size distribution; a number of large rocks to facilitate breakage by impact, as few as possible middle size rocks that become critical size, and the maximum fines which will pass quickly through an open-circuit mill. Physical constraints of drill and charging equipment size limit the extent that pattern geometry can be changed, and the powder factor increased, to maximize fines. However, a growing number of studies have shown that the use of electronic detonators can lead to increased fragmentation and greater muckpile uniformity, providing an alternate means of increasing primary breakage by blasting. Unfortunately results in the literature rarely quantified the changes to the fragmentation distribution. The measured gyratory crusher fragmentation of 2,750,000t of ore was used to compare stockpiles constructed from shots using pyrotechnic detonators to those using Orica i-kon electronic detonators. In the first stage of the study, stockpiles shot using 25 ms inter-hole timing with pyrotechnic detonators were compared to stockpiles shot using the same inter-hole timing with electronic detonators. In the second stage of the study, stockpiles shot using 17 ms inter-hole timing with pyrotechnic detonators were compared to stockpiles shot using 8 ms inter-hole timing with electronic detonators. When electronic detonators were used with the inter-hole timing kept constant, fragmentation uniformity was slightly increased, but mean fragment size increased by 20%. When electronic detonators were used with faster inter-hole timing, fragmentation uniformity was slightly reduced, but mean fragment size decreased by 30%. Modeling was used to determine the SAG mill throughput which could be expected from this change in fragmentation to determine the pairs of pyrotechnic and electronic blast pattern geometries that would provide similar throughput. The economic benefit from the electronic detonator shots was calculated to assist in determining the optimum blast designs for their use.

"The term “aggregate” has a number of definitions depending primarily on the use of the material. Aggregate in some context is sand, gravel, crushed stone, slag or other material of mineral composition used in bituminous and portland cement concrete, mortar, plaster, railroad ballast, filter beds and a variety of other uses where aggregates can be utilized.Of the natural aggregates, crushed stone is widely used for most construction purposes. Crushed stone can be mined from a variety of rock types such as limestone, dolomite (dolostone), granites, and granitic type rocks, basalt, gabbro (trap rock), sandstones, schist, marble, gneiss, quartzite, rhyolite, as well as other rock types. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) breaks down the rocks by type sold as follows: limestone, dolomite, marble, calcareous marl, shell, granite, trap rock (basalt, diorite) sandstone/quartzite, slate, volcanic cinder and scoria and miscellaneous stone.In 2015, the USGS estimates that 1.32 Gt (1.45 billion st) of crushed stone were produced in the United States. The volume of crushed stone produced, and the numerous mines that produce it make the crushed stone industry the largest mining industry in the United States. The five leading states for production of crushed stone in 2015 were Texas, Pennsylvania, Missouri, Florida and Ohio. The size of the first two states certainly helps in output because of the large market area. The remaining states benefit from being able to barge along rivers to outside markets in adjoining states. Georgia producers rail large amounts of granitic aggregate to Florida and adjacent states devoid of crushed stone aggregate, especially skid resistant aggregate (aggregate used on the top course of asphalt roads)."

In 1960 the management of International Salt Company made the decision that all waste material from the Watkins Glen plant would be stored in underground salt cavities. The cavities which they contemplated using had been depleted of salt to a point where continued operation would have impaired their structural stability. Originally, the waste to be disposed of included vacuum pan bleeds, cinders, contaminated salt and sewage. It was proposed that this material, in a slurry form, was to be injected into the salt cavity through one of the abandoned wells. Brine, displaced from the cavity, was to be recovered from an adjacent well and subsequently injected into the Cherry Valley limestone, This Cherry Valley limestone which underlies a large portion of north central New York contains a connate water with high concentrations of ammonia, hydrogen sulphide and the chlorides of calcium, magnesium and sodium. A number of questions were immediately raised on various aspects of the technical feasibility of the project. Of major concern was the buildup of insolubles adjacent to the bore of the injection well. Another pertinent question was the carryover in the displaced liquor of finely-divided, mechanically-suspended particles. Criticism was leveled at the inclusion of sewage. Engineering studies were started by the company's Mineral & Mines Development Department and on April 3, 1961 a preliminary feasibility report was issued.

Pyrrhotite is pyrophoric when in a finely divided form. The problems of disposing of large quantities of finely divided pyrrhotite separated out by metallurgical processing from ore are formidable. In the case of an underground mine, a solution to the problem of disposal is to place the pyrrhotite in the stoped out areas and seal from any air supply. Further, the pyrrhotite could be diluted with tailings which would reduce the possibility of combust- ion. Several enquiries to various centres and authorities have shown that the products of the slow oxidation of pyrrhotite with moisture present can cement an inert matrix into a stable fill similar in physical prop- erties to fill stabilised with Portland cement. Stabilised fill can be used to advan tage with a suitable mining method to provide high recovery. The investigation demonstrated that air and 15% w/w water must be present for the fill to harden and that the sizing of the particles is a critical factor in drainage of a hydraul- ically placed fill and subsequent even harden- ing of the fill in a stope. With the materials used in the experiments in which the - 51 micron component of the tailings had been dis- carded, an optimum mix was found to contain 4:1 tailings/slag ratio and an overall pyrr hotite concentration of 8% (all proportion by weight). Approximately 34 days after drain- age to 15% moisture in natural air flow condit- ions, an unconfined compressive strength of 1.862 MPa was attained. A subsequent experi- ment was conducted with a sample of optimum mix in a pipe one metre long in forced air flow conditions. At a superficial velocity of 3.Om per hour the mix required 155 hours to harden to 1.862 MPa after drainage to 15% w/w moisture content. The pressure drop bet- ween the top and bottom of the mix in the pipe remained constant at 9 KPa/metre length. This result suggests that forced air flow conditions will increase the rate of hardening. No dangerous effluents were detected in the course of the experiments which could affect mine equipment or personnel.

Open pit optimization and mine design depend upon a realistic estimate of the grade-tonnage dis¬tribution. The estimate should reflect what can be reasonably recovered and processed. The McCoy/Cove operation in central Nevada is a gold and silver mine. Recoverable reserve estimations of gold and silver were made using indicator kriging and the indirect log normal variance correction to construct the grade- tonnage distribution. Optimal pits were generated using this distribution, and the results were compared to the pits generated by ordinary kriging and indicator kriging block mean methods. The results indicate that the proposed method for multimetal recoverable reserve estimation shows an improvement in terms of predicting the recoverable tons and grades. The optimal pits generated from the recoverable resource model are larger than those generated by the ordinary kriging and indicator kriging block mean methods. This model maximizes the overall recovery of the mineral resource.

THE electrical conductivity of pure copper is markedly decreased by small amounts of impurity in solution. The magnitude of this effect has been very carefully determined by numerous investigators who studied a wide variety of impurity elements. Much of this work is summarized in an excellent review by Pawlek and Reichel.' The case of zinc impurity in copper is an exception to the above in that there has been no well-documented study of the effect using high-purity starting materials. The values for the effect of zinc on conductivity, which are usually taken from unpublished work by Skowronki, indicate that zinc in low concentration has no effect whatever in lowering the conductivity of pure copper. This effect, if true, is unusual since it is generally known that even in lowest concentration, impurities exert an effect on conductivity which is proportional to the amount dissolved. It is more reasonable to suspect that in the original work on the effect of zinc some of the zinc was oxidized out of solution during specimen preparation. The following experi- and calculated d-spacings based on the unit cell dimensions of Baenziger et al. Since the single crystal studies of Baenziger et al. were limited to (hk0) and (hk 1) data, it was not possible to Compare all the intensities of the powder and single crystal patterns. However, the strongest reflections of both studies, the (321) reflection, agree very well when the appropriate multiplicity factor is used. Good agreement was also found in a number of other reflections of lesser intensity. Despite the precautions taken in annealing the U6Fe powder, an appreciable amount of UO, was detected in the powder pattern after heat treatment. The powder pattern reported by Groganoand Clews is given in Table I. Except for the 3.15A line, which is the strongest line of UO,, their pattern, as far as it goes, compares favoEably with the data from this study. Gordon and Kaufmann have reported a diffraction powder pattern purported to be U, Fe but it bears very little resemblance to the patterns of Table I. ments were carried out to redetermine the effect of zinc on conductivity using high-purity starting materials and processing conditions capable of producing oxygen-free alloys. Materials used in the experiment were ASR 99.999 pct Cu and Cumingo 99.999 pct Zn. Four 1 lb melts were prepared with identical procedure in argon atmosphere with crucibles made from Speer No. 580 graphite. The compositions were 0.0, 0.1, 0.3 and 1.0 pct Zn. Standard No. 14 wire (0.064 in. diam) was made from these melts as follows. The smelting plant of the British Columbia Copper Co. at Greenwood, B. C., now closed because of the decline in the price of copper due.to the European war, is of special interest to metallurgists for several reasons. It was successfully smelting in blast furnaces the lowest grade copper ore of all plants in America. In order to do so, it had to run at very hig~; efficiency, which necessarily required a large tonnage per square foot of hearth area, together with the minimum amount of labor and other costs. The furnaces smelted daily 2,250 tons of ore (6.62 tons per sq. ft. of hearth area), carrying 0.85 per cent. of copper, at a smelting cost of 81.18 per ton. The entire plant required 130 men to operate it and keep up repairs, showing a labor efficiency of about 17.5 Dons per man per day. In the present paper, the method of obtaining these results is shown. Most of the information contained in this description I obtained as Assistant Superintendent, during the two years preceding the present shutdown. Location and Connections The smelter of this company is about half a mile south of GreenGood, in the Boundary district of British Columbia, on the Columbia & Westerg branch of the Canadian Pacific Railway. It was originally built in 1900 by Paul Johnson, to handle 600 tons of ore a day in two small furnaces of 300 tons capacity; but in 1907 the old furnaces were torn out, the plant was remodeled, and three blast furnaces, 48 by 240 in. at) the tuyéres, were installed.
