A first-order flotation rate equation was derived by incorporating both hydrodynamic and surface forces involved in bubble-particle interactions. The hydrodynamic forces were calculated using an appropriate stream function, while the surface forces calculated using the extended DL VO theory. The equation was used to predict flotation results as functions of several important parameters such as contact angle, Zeta potentials of air bubbles and particles, and bubble size. The predictions are consistent with experience, and can be explained in view of the various sub-processes considered in the model.

The Freeport McMoRan chlorination circuit is comprised of four related processes: ore chlorination, gas scrubbing, chlorine supply and excess hypochlorite removal ("hypo kill"). Each of these processes are described, and related to the pertinent mineralogic components in the carbonaceous ore feed to the plant. The chlorination system in use at Jerritt Canyon to passivate forms of preg-robbing organic carbon has proven to be a cost effective and efficient means to recover gold from low sulfide carbonaceous refractory ores, where gold may not be specifically associated with either the sulfides or the carbon.

This paper addresses the challenges in optimizing the phosphate flotation process, specifically focusing on the variability in P2O5 recovery. An artificial intelligence (AI) driven Flotation Prediction Model was developed to accurately forecast P2O5 grades. Leveraging real-time data from various operational sources, the model provides insights into how operators can opstimize key flotation parameters to enhance product quality and recovery rates. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of AI predictive modeling in addressing operational variability, marking a crucial step toward intelligent operations in the phosphate flotation process.

In phosphate flotation, more than 90% of the finer fraction (-35, + 150 mesh) is recovered as opposed to 70% of the coarser material (-16, + 35 mesh). On the other hand, coarser fraction is higher in phosphate content than the finer feed. Consequently, improvement in the coarse recovery is highly desired. It was determined on bench scale that emulsification of the collector (fuel oil and fatty acid mixture) can lead to enhanced recovery of coarse particles. Flotation of phosphate with emulsified collector resulted in improved recovery and grade also on the plant scale.

In today's work environment a tremendous amount of data is required to provide the regulatory agencies justification to issue a mining permit. The demands for data, specifically environmental characterization data, grow and the mine plans must address the issues raised by the interpretation of that data. Computers and computer software can provide operators and consultants with the tools necessary to assimilate, digest and interpret these seemingly unmanageable data sets. This paper presents some examples of how Mincom's MineScape software can be applied to the task of developing coal mine permits in an electronic format.

A test of a solvent extraction (SX) pilot plant featuring electrostatic coalescence has been performed by C-E Natco at the United Nuclear uranium mill in Church Rock, New Mexico. Operating in parallel with the United Nuclear SX system, the C-E Natco electrostatic SX pilot plant exhibited comparable extraction efficiency to the United Nuclear system which utilizes conventional mixer-settlers. The C-E Natco pilot, however, operated at much higher liquid loading rates and exhibited less communication between the aqueous phases of the extraction and stripping circuits.

Establishment of the Cadia East Panel Cave Stage One (PC1S1) commenced with the firing of the first bell in early 2011. Production began with the completion of the undercut in May 2014. PC1S1 used a post-undercut composed of 114 drawbells covering a footprint area of 73 438 m². The extraction level is located at a depth of 1200 m below the surface and is based on a 32 × 20 m El Teniente layout. Cave establishment required the construction of multiple conveyor drifts, a large-capacity jaw-gyratory crusher and ancillary ventilation and pumping infrastructure. Preconditioning via hydraulic fracturing and blasting was implemented at various locations of the cave block height. Most of the coal presently used by the utility industry is cleaned at preparation plants employing wet processes. While water is the mainstay of coal washing, it is one of the least desirable components in the final product causing a reduction of the heating value as well as handling difficulties. Currently available dewatering techniques are inefficient for dewatering very fine coal (minus 325 mesh). The US coal industry has expressed serious concern about utilizing advanced cleaning processes such as column flotation because an efficient and economical dewatering process is not available.

IN 1945, Illinois produced 75,210,000 bid. of oil, or 4.4 percent of the total for the United States, and ranked sixth in the nation in oil production for the third consecutive year. Production decreased about 3 per cent from that of 1944, when the total Illinois production was 77,413,000 bbl. The heat capacities of four crystalline silicates of barium ( BaSiO3 , BaSiO4 , Ba Si¸0 , and BaSi₂0 ) and two crystalline silicates of strontium (SrSio and Sr₂Sio ) were measured over the temperature range from 51 ° to 298° K. The results were used to evaluate the entropies at 298.15 ° K. The entropy values were joined with known heats of formation to obtain the free energies of formation of the silicates with respect to their constituent oxides at 298.15 ° K.

Over 95 percent of the world's refined copper is now produced by electrolytic processes. The bulk of this electrolytic copper comes via the conventional route for sulfide ores of concentration, smelting and electro-refining. A rapidly increasing percentage of world production is now achieved using hydrometallurgical routes involving dissolution of the copper values from minerals, purification of the resultant leach solution by solvent extraction and finally deposition as cathodes by electrowinning. The technology can now be considered mature and this paper endeavors to summarize recent developments which, from the authors' perspectives, are important.

The need for elemental-analysis information on coal mine dust for use in health and safety research prompted this study by the Bureau of Mines. Neutron-activation and X-ray fluorescent techniques were used to obtain five-element analysis (silicon, aluminum, iron, calcium, and magnesium) on 444 samples from 68 coal mines in 10 States. From these analyses, the average composition of the dust in coal mines was determined. The contribution of the primary dusting material (limestone dust) to the makeup of coal mines was shown. Regional differences in mine-dust composition were indicated.

In this study, zeta potential and contact angle measurements of pyrite before and after interacting with Thiobacillus ferrooxidans are carried out to investigate the changes in its surface properties. The results show that, after pyrite interacting with Thiobacillus ferrooxidans and its metabolite, the surface electricity of pyrite changes obviously, resulting in a notable shifting of isoelectric point to lower pH value, but the contact angle varies little. Bacterial protein plays the most important role in the interaction. This work is helpful to disclose the mechanisms of Thiobacillus ferrooxidans de-pressing pyrite flotability.

Chain pillar design formula under weak roof condition was developed by statistically analyzing the results from the three dimensional finite element parametric analyses. The parameters such as mechanical properties of the roof and floor strata, overburden depth, panel width and length, and coal strength were incorporated in the formula. A conversion formula which transfers a rectangular chain pillar into a square chain pillar of equal strength is proposed. The influence of high in-situ horizontal stresses, which are often encountered in the coalfield, on chain pillar stability is also discussed.

Limestone and Dolomite quarries located near Salto-De-Pirapora, Arroia Grande Gaucho, Conde Francisco and Candioita probably represent the closest, major sources of high quality lime and cement grade carbonate rocks to the major population center of Sao Paulo Brazil. The nearest major city to most of the limestone - dolomite sources is Sorocaba and Palma. All of the mining properties visited during this study are located in the state of Rio Grande Do Sul at approximately -32 degrees south latitude and -52 degrees west longitude, southwest of the major port city of Porto Alegre.
