Ore deposits of rare earth elements (REE) in South-East Asia are classified into four types: carbonatite, allanite, ion-adsorption and placer. Occurrences of the carbonatite deposits are confined almost exclusively to the Red River Fault Zone of northern Vietnam. Since the carbonatites contain dominantly REE fluorocarbonates (eg bastnasite) and lesser amounts of monazite, they are rich in light REE but poor in heavy REE. The ion-adsorption type deposits and prospects were found in Myanmar, Vietnam and Thailand. The ion-adsorption ores generally show lower REE grades than those of the carbonatite type and placer deposits; however, they could be enriched in HREE, which are more precious and scarce commodities than LREE. The ores consist of weathered granites with a significant amount of ion-exchangeable REE, which are extracted by using a dilute electrolyte solution. The ion-exchangeable REE are likely to be sourced from REE fluorocarbonates, allanite and titanite because these minerals are relatively susceptible to weathering and release REE3+ ions into soil water. In contrast, monazite and xenotime are resistant to chemical weathering and could form placer ores. Placer monazite and xenotime have been processed as by-products of placer Sn, Zr or Ti in Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia, although the current production is small.CITATION:Sanematsu, K, 2015. "The Wasa Lake property is a block of about 1,640 acres in Beauchastel township, Quebec. Gold was discovered there first in 1936 in what is now known as the 'Southern area ( Fig. 1). Stripping and trenching were followed by 9,218 feet of diamond drilling in twenty holes. A number of good intersections were obtained, but their interpretation in terms of ore was difficult. A shaft was then sunk to 220 feet vertical depth. Thirteen hundred feet of lateral work and 543 feet of diamond drilling were completed at the 200-foot level before work was discontinued in 1938. Results up to this point had been just fair.Early in 1944, surface diamond drilling was resumed. The first hole cut material of ore grade in a strong shear zone 1,000 feet north of the old workings, and holes to the east and west showed this to be an extensive gold-bearing zone.In August 1945, a main working shaft was started. This has been sunk to 550 feet slope depth. A cross-cut at 390 feet vertical depth was driven to the ore zone and, by drifting and drilling at regular intervals, a length of 725 feet had been tested to December 31st, 1946 ( Figs. 1 and 2). The results check those from surface drilling quite closely.In the main zone, scoping widths from 8 to 40 feet and averaging about 25 feet are indicated. The grade after dilution should be about 0.15 oz. gold a ton and operation will probably start at 1,000 tons a day."

Sm-Fe-N hard magnetic materials are good candidates for high performance bonded magnets. Rapid-quenching method should be highly favorable for the fabrication of isotropic magnet powder with high coercivity. We report here the magnetic properties of Sm-Fe-N powders produced by a few kinds of rapid-quenching processes. Sm2Fe17 powders were prepared by gas-atomization (GA), rotating-disk atomization (RDA), or melt-spinning (MS) method. The Sm2Fe17 GA powder had dendritic solidification structure, while the RDA powder had micro crystalline structure with size of 3-5 µm. Coercivities (HcI) of their nitrides were 56 (for GA) and 217 ka/m (for RDA). The H cI of nitrided Sm2Fe17 MS powder with wheel velocity (V5) of 5-20 m/s, which had also microcrystalline structure, was 53 to 509 Wm. These coercivity values are not sufficient for bonded magnet applications. From the study of additive effects, it was found that C, C-Si, C-Ga, or C-Al addition decreased the crystal size of quenched Sm2Fe17 powder. Consequently, high coercivity was obtained; the HcI of nitrided Sm2Fe1C1Si1 MS powder with V5 of 10 m/s was 898 kA/m, and 708 kA/m for the nitrided Sm2Fe15C1Si1 RDA powder. The compression-molded bonded magnet made from Sm2Fe18Si0.1Nx MS powder showed a high (BH)max of 82.7 kJ/m3.

This paper reports our results on the application of a novel process for the spontaneous and sustained reduction and recovery of elemental silver and gold on an electroactive polymer surface. This work incorporates the metal recovery from photographic films (silver) and goldsmith residues (gold), by direct contact of metal containing solutions with polymer. The performance on such process of electrochemically and chemically prepared polyaniline (P ANI) is evaluated. SEM coupled with EDX and XRD analyses confirmed the presence of metallic silver and gold deposited onto polymeric material.

In this paper,powder emulsion explosives,which have high sensitivity and strong detonation force,have been studied by applying emulsion technology to the production of the present powder ones.Under the condition of #8 industrial detonator initiation,the distance of air gap propagation is 110~180mm,brisance !3.5mm, lead block test value 325ml and detonation velocity 3000~4000m/s for small diameter (35mm) explosive cartridges.In addition to these,the factors effect on are investigated by experimental study and theoretical analysis.

The paper describes tests on horizontal-belt filters for the filtration of gold and uranium. The promising results led to the installation of 17 such filters (ten of them 120 m2 in size) in the mine's metallurgical plants, and their operation is discussed. Although several problems were encountered both in operation and maintenance, it is concluded that, with correct operation and suitable filter cloths, exceptionally good metallurgical recoveries can be achieved at filtration rates twice to three times higher than those on rotary filters.

High speed cinematography of surface blasting operations is used for diagnosing various aspects of blast performance. Several quantitative features may be derived including confirmation of the hole initiation sequence, time to first movement, evidence of stemming ejection and measurements of face velocity. Face velocity measurements using high speed cinematography have the following disadvantages: firstly, for accurate measurements placement of targets on the face and surveying of them is necessary; secondly, the analysis requires experience and time and can only be done after the film has been developed.

The Tamrock all-hydraulic rock drilling system 400 has been developed to cover as wide a drilling range as possible, from 35 mm holes in tunnelling, roofbolting and development work to 64mm holes in long hole production drilling. Field experience during the last five years shows that the Tamrock drill covers this range in a way that no other rock drill on the market does and recently the range has been success- fully further expanded to cover bench drilling with 76 mm holes.

It is the commonly held belief that, because the separation of liquids from solids takes place considerably faster in high rate thickeners than in conventional thickeners, high rate thickeners (HRT's) must use more flocculant than conventional thickeners. Data collected from a wide range of thickener users in Australasia and data presented in the literature is analysed. In addition, pilot plant data, with direct comparisons between HRT's and conventional thickeners, is presented. It is concluded that the flocculant consumption for both thickener types is in the same range.

In this work, the rheological behavior of ultra-low cement alumina-based castables with addition of flake graphite and extruded graphite pellets has been investigated. Emphasis has been laid on the influence of the type and amount of carbon additions and the results are compared with corresponding alumina castable samples without any carbon addition. It is found that alumina-based castables with extruded graphite pellets have good rheological behavior and flowability with lower water demand (< 6.3%), and no segregation during the shearing of castable.
