The increasing cost of selenium made the conventional low lead alloys such as EnviroBrasses not economically viable. Efforts were made to develop newer alloys without selenium for plumbing applications. Recently a new copper alloy, C89836, was introduced. This paper discusses the properties of the new alloy including mechanical properties at ambient and elevated temperatures as well as corrosion behaviour.

This type of quarrying is very much different from that of established quarries in developed countries, demanding somewhat unorthodox techniques to produce the variety of materials required. SYNOPSIS A method is described whereby finely ground glassy granulated blastfurnace slag mixed with small quantities of clay, whiting and quartz has been used for making ceramic tiles in the laboratory. The tiles were semi-dry pressed and devitrification as well as sintering occurred during firing. The properties of the resulting product compared favourably in many respects with ordinary ceramic flooring materials.

Distal rhyolitic tephras from the Taupo Volcanic Zone are widespread in the Auckland urban region. Some are primary air fall or flow deposits but most are reworked. Their presence indicates potential hazard for the Auckland urban region from future eruptions of central North Island volcanoes and associated secondary effects. Geotechnical problems occur as a result of weathering of the tephras yielding sensitive materials.

Customarily, peak particle velocity of surface wave vibrations has been the recommended criterion for the prediction of blast damage to structures. Currently blast spectrum and natural frequencies of a structure have been also recognized as important for predicting damage potential. While others have considered the importance of structural frequencies, they have not analyzed the structural response spectrum when establishing damage criteria.

Research programs have established the correlation between the basic mill operating parameters such as: size of crushing products, number of mill rotation, ore flow and quantity of ore in the mill, diameter of grinding media, and specific consumption of grinding media. Also, the mill efficiency has been determined in dependence of adsorption. Mathematical dependences and equations are presented in this paper.
