The development of a remotely-controlled drill and blast excavation system is desirable both because it is potentially more economical than mechanical tunneling in hard rock and for safety. A major limitation in developing successful selective, flocculation schemes is the difficulty encountered in adsorbing the polymeric flocculant only on the desired substrate. In this paper, a correlation between selectivity of flocculant adsorption and separation efficiency is outlined, and a potential technique to achieve selective adsorption of flocculants is discussed.

The factors which control the dewatering of fine coal by gravity/centrifugal drainage and by gas displacement (vacuum/hyperbaric filtration) are evaluated.
