THIS paper presents geophysical and subsurface data observed in the vicinity of Shafts No. 1 and and 5 of the National Lead Co. lead mines at Fred-ericktown, Madison County, Missouri, see Fig. 1. The area selected is an excellent example to illustrate the close correlation between geophysical data and geological facts as revealed by drilling and mining. Such close correlations make geophysical applications appropriate to the development of known ore-bodies as well as the exploration for new orebodies. In the past, magnetic and shallow electrical resistivity observations were made over limited areas in the Fredericktown lead district by the Missouri Geological Survey, with favorable results. The first extensive magnetic and electrical resistivity surveys were started by the U. S. Bureau of Mines in May 1945 in two areas located northwest and southwest of Fredericktown, as shown in Fig. 1. The results of these surveys were reported in April 1948 at Denver, spontaneous-polarization surveys were made over the property of the St. Louis Smelting and Refining Co. at Fredericktown by Sherwin F. Kelly Geophysical Services, Inc. Aeromagnetic surveys were completed in 1948 over the Fredericktown quadrangle by the U. S. Geological Survey. Since 1945 geophysical surveys have been an important part of exploration programs in the Fred- ericktown district. Such methods, magnetic and electrical resistivity, are now serving as guides in the further development of known orebodies. On an irregular pre-Cambrian igneous erosion surface Lamotte sandstone of upper Cambrian age was deposited, partially filling the topographic basins, see Fig. 2. Above and conformable with the Lamotte sandstone lies the Bonneterre formation, a dolomite with locally interbedded thin dolomitic limestones and shales at its base. This formation also only partially filled the topographic basins. The Bonneterre was overlain by the Davis, Derby, Doe Run, and Potosi formations, which are principally dolomite. Uplift, tilt, and slight warping has allowed erosion and weathering to remove most of the sediments overlying the Bonneterre, and in many places, not far from the mine, the Lamotte sandstone is exposed. This erosion has also exposed areas of pre-Cambrian igneous rock. The Lamotte sandstone, having been deposited on an irregular pre-Cambrian surface, is extremely variable in thickness and ranges from zero where it laps the pre-Cambrian rocks to 250 ft thick in the deeper basins. In the vicinity of the mines the Bonneterre dolomite ranges from zero where it wedges out against the pre-Cambrian igneous rocks to 400 ft thick. The ore deposits occur as a bedded disseminated type1 and are chiefly composed of galena and pyrite with minor amounts of chalcopyrite and siegenite. Heavy pyrite and marcasite mineralization may be found throughout the Bonneterre formation. The goal of this work was to select an appropriate electrode for dummy load of diesel engine in fully salt-water in the DESA factory. The electrochemical corrosion rate of general structural steel, commercial pure aluminum and cathode copper calculated as weighting, volumetric and commercial in fully salt-water by city power. After several tests and then applying the fuzzy logic method, it was determined that general structural steel is the best selection for this purpose.

The AEC (Architecture, Engineering, Construction) industry is an information intensive industry and all related processes employed during different phases of a project, including planning, designing, building, manufacturing, occupying, and maintenance, involve vast amounts of data that is used for a wide variety of purposes. Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a powerful shared knowledge resource which stores this data to support decision making about a facility through all these different phases in its life cycle. Nowadays, BIM is mostly used in the design and construction phases while it can also be highly beneficial beyond those stages. For example, in the Operation and Maintenance (O&M) phase, BIM could be used for automated facilities management or robotic inspection to provide semantic knowledge for navigation. For any implementation not related to the original intent of the BIM (design), organizations need to be able to represent their project data in a common interpretable form, which provides the possibility of an accurate exchange of data among different software products and platforms, known as interoperability. This study has investigated the current state of interoperability between software products used as Building Information Modeling tools. The main focus has been on a popularly used format for BIM models, Industry Foundation Classes (IFC), since it has been specifically developed to enable standardized data exchange. The research methodology involved a comprehensive literature review and the gathering of all fragmented prior research related to the field in order to develop a consistent understanding of the current state of knowledge. This was accompanied with a detailed case study that evaluated and compared two dominant pieces of BIM software, Revit and Bentley, and examined their interoperability strengths and weaknesses while using the IFC format.

Complicated processes of heat exchange and evaporation, leading to changes in the temperature and humidity of the ventilating air flow, take place during the driving of headings. In the case when virgin rock temperature is high, the increase in air temperature and humidity is significant. This causes a deterioration of climatic conditions in the headings. Procedures for predicting the changes in air temperature and humidity are discussed, together with appropriate calculations and computer programmes. Predicted results for example scenarios are used as a background for the selection of approaches and means to improve the climatic conditions in a dead-end heading using auxiliary ventilation.

Blasting practices based on sound engineering principles are well established but the successful application of these practices requires accurate information about the overburden geology and close supervision of the drilling and blasting operations. Good design alone is not sufficient to insure good results, but the process may be difficult to control unless steps are taken to measure the variables and to provide management and the operators with the information they need to establish and maintain control. Satisfactory blasting can be defined as loosening and fragmenting the rock so that it can be handled by the excavating equipment, while at the same time, governmental regulations on air blast and ground vibrations are not violated. Optimum practices achieve these objectives at the lowest combined cost of the drilling and loading operations and the blasting materials. Total system optimization, that is, taking into consideration the effect of fragmentation on the cost of operating and maintaining excavating equipment as well as drilling and blasting costs, probably is not a reasonable goal at the present time.

Probably the most expensive but least well understood roof falls in underground coal mining, are those that occur ahead of the powered supports in the centre of longwall face. Even small roof cavities result in the dilution of the ROM product and large cavities can stop the face for days if not weeks and the incurred cash flow losses can be catastrophic. Expensive and time-consuming remedial measures (e.g. PUR, cavity filling, removal of stone from the AFC by hand) are required and equipment wear and damage can be significant when the need to blast and convey stone is also considered. Through four major research projects within the Australian coal industry and numerous consulting assignments, the author has spent the best part of fifteen years attempting to identify and defme the various geotechnical and operational factors that determine whether a major roof cavity occurs ahead of the powered supports or a normal goaf fall occurs just behind them, the difference in operational outcome being enormous. The paper presents a condensed summary of the overall technical findings covering such issues as roof fall mechanisms, the measured influence of cover depth, periodic weighting of massive strata units and its quantification, the role of cut-throughs in chain pillars, face width and height, the role of the powered support and the influence (both positive and negative) of mine site operations. The big picture outcome is the view that high production longwall extraction is well-suited to certain geotechnical environments, is marginal in others and under certain conditions is fatally flawed and beyond the control of mine operators, although fortunately the latter category is a relatively rare situation. Various risk-based research findings in this regard will be given as a basis for future discussion.

This report summarizes the results of laboratory tests of five samples of low-grade phosphate ores from Idaho. The laboratory test work has demonstrated that by grinding, desliming, and flotation a portion of the siliceous gangue can be removed. The highly carbonaceous ores responded successfully to treatment after preroasting, to produce a plus-30-percent-P205 product. It has been found that highly siliceous ores, as represented by the samples treated, are more readily amenable to concentration than ores high in calcium carbonate. Of the five samples tested, four were amenable to concentration to a product containing over 30 percent P205. One sample, from the Conda, second bed, was not amenable to mineral-dressing treatment to produce a plus-25-percent-P205 product.

ALL the mining machinery of the Penn Iron Mining Co. has been operated by electric power for several years and when another shovel for stockpile loading was required the advantages of an electric shovel were naturally considered. After considerable study, serious objections suggested themselves the use of a shovel operated directly by electrical apparatus by reason of the complicated control, severe service on the motors FIG. 1.-ELECTRO-HYDRAULIC SHOVEL FIG:. 2-THE SHOVEL AS IT WAS OPERATED CINDER CONSTRUCTION. THE FIRST YEAR. and the heavy surges of current required from the line. It was finally decided to construct an electro-hydraulic shovel using water under pressure to perform all the necessary operations except that of propelling, for which a separate motor was best suited. A car body with boom, dipper handle and dipper of late design, but without any of the steam machinery, was purchased. A motor-driven centrifugal pump, a pressure tank, an air tank, a small air compressor and water cylinders with plungers, pistons and valves, were installed in place of the; steam equipment. The 15,770-acre Worm Creek Roadless Study Area is in southeastern Idaho about 8 miles (mi) west of the northern portion of Bear Lake. U.S. Bureau of Mines personnel examined the roadless, area during the summer of 1984. No mineral resources were identified within the study area. There were no mines or mining claims in the study area in 1984. However, the study area is blanketed with oil and gas leases, but no known productive horizons have been identified within nor nearby. The roadless area is in the Cordilleran fold-thrust belt and is underlain by Paleozoic and Mesozoic marine strata more than 50,000 feet thick. The trace of the Paris thrust fault is 2 to 3 mi east of the study area and has an eastward displacement of about 4 to 7 mi.

SmartTag is a radio frequency identification (RFID) based technology designed to allow tracking of ore from its source through blasting, run-of-mine (ROM) pads, crushers, intermediate stockpiles and finally into the concentrator. This paper presents current developments and the future direction of the SmartTagÖ ore tracking system, as well as presenting some case studies. Successful applications of the SmartTag system have encouraged development to allow the system to be used in a wider variety of plants, in particular plants with finer crushing and screening stages. This presented Metso with a number of technological challenges, including RFID tag and antenna design. By reducing the traditional RFID tag diameter from 60 mm to 20 mm the RFID tags can now successfully pass through a secondary crusher. The new smaller RFID tags (referred to as mini RFID tags) have been used in some Process Integration and Optimisation projects with very promising results. The results indicate that the miniature RFID tags have a higher survivability to blasting and through secondary crushing stages. Extending ore tracking further through the process allows more reliable linking of spatial data with time based process performance. Metso is looking at developing even smaller micro RFID tags, and is also investigating other applications for the SmartTag system, including ore tracking from the original source to the final destination (ie from the mine, through the plant and ports to the customer).

Radon in the Environment Radon, as a natural nobel gas, can be detected nearly everywhere in the environment as a decay product of ubiquitous uranium. As it is emanated from soil and rocks measurable concentrations have been found at the surface of soils and in even higher concentrations in enclosed spaces like, for example, mines and buildings. While above soil surface activities caused by radon have been found in an order of magnitude of up to 1 pCi/l (Weigel, F. 1978), concentrations in enclosed spaces and mines are higher because of the lack of atmospheric circulation. Beside air circulation the relevant figure depends on the Ra226-concentration in the surrounding rocks or building material, as well as on emanation coefficient and the diffusion coefficient. While representative Rn222concentrations in well ventilated buildings are reported to be in an order of magnitude of 1 pCi/l maximum values up to one order of magnitude higher have been found in badly ventilated brick buildings (Ettenhuber, E., Lehmann, R., Clajus, P., 1978) (Aitken, J.H., et al., 1977). Just now it was stated that the reduced air circulation due to German legal regulations on energy conservation will increase radon exposure of the public considerably (Jacobi, W., 1979). Radon in Mines Radon exposure of workers is, of course, a matter of concern in uranium ore mines where relatively high concentrations of the uranium to be mined are present. Measures to protect workers' health have been implemented, based on experience on dose-effect relationship. They serve to meet exposure standards by limiting inhalation of radioactive particles, in reducing radon concentrations or in limiting working hours. Both improved measuring devices and capacity as well as the lower discrimination threshold enable to measure radon concentrations in other mines, e.g. in coal mines. It is known that radioactivity in coal is small compared with that in other minerals and even soil, rocks. Nevertheless, radioactive elements were identified in coal and so the question was whether the concentrations of radon in coal mines might be a subject of concern. The problems encountered when measuring radon in coal mines are described below, as the measuring device has to be flame proofed which is an important additional requirement. Measured radon concentrations in British coal mines have already been published (Duggan, M.J., Howell, D.M., Soilleux, P.J., 1968 (Dungey, C.J., Hore, J., Walter, M.D., 1978). The authors found concentrations of up to 14 pCi/l in Cornish mines. In most cases the values were in the order of 2 pCi/l. These results were consistent with measurements reported from U.S.-coal mines (Lucas, H.F., Gabrush, A.F., 1966). Such concentrations of radon were not considered to represent a hazard for British miners (Ogden, T.L., 1974). In Germany, too, first measurements have been carried out in five coal mines in the Saarland in the 60's. Air samples were taken at different places in the coal mines, dried, fed to an ionisation cell and measured by a device including reference cells. Samples taken at ventilated places showed radon concentrations consistent with the lower British results. They all kept within the standards of the first German regulation on protection against radiation. Measuring the radon daughters was renounced because of the relatively low radon concentrations and the requirements for flame proofness in coal mines. Moreover, it can be ascertained that because of the effective ventilation the disequilibrium factor between the decay products and the radon concentration remains far below the value of one (Muth, H., 1978) (Keller, G.). In 1979 the committee on mine safety and health protection in coal and other mines of the EEC proposed to have measured and evaluated radon concentrations in European coal mines to find out whether they complied with international standards. Great Britain and Germany agreed to this proposal and by commissioning such measurements to scientific institutes complied with the request to harmonize the methods used. In the Federal Republic of Germany, e.g. Westfälische Berggewerkschaftskasse (WBK) and Staatliches Materialprüfungsamt; Dortmund (MPA) were requested to carry out the measurements in coal mines of the Ruhr coalfield whereas Saarberg Interplan was responsible for the Saar coalfield. The WBK measurements are reported in later paragraphs.

The knowledge of aggregate size under various chemical and hydrodynamic conditions is very important for selective agglomeration, flotation and water clarification processes. Traditionally, aggregate size measurements are conducted using an ex-situ technique or in a diluted suspension. In either case, the measurement occurs in an environment that does not resemble the actual conditions under which the aggregates are formed. In this study, an on-line scanning laser microscope has been used to study the coagula size of micronized coal suspensions as a function of pH, solids concentration and agitation intensity. A maximum aggregate size of 310 µ m was obtained under relatively quiescent conditions and at pH values near the iso-electric point (iep) of the coal. The aggregate size results compare well with the coagulation efficiency measurements obtained under the same pH conditions.

The dissolution of low-iron sphalerite, (Zn,Fe)S containing 0.08% Fe, in ferric sulphate-sulphuric acid media was investigated using closely sized fractions of crushed sphalerite crystals and sintered disks made from the crushed crystals. Linear kinetics are observed, and the predominant reaction products are ZnSO4, FeSO4 and elemental sulphur. The leaching rate increases systematically with increasing temperature, and the calculated apparent activation energy is 56 kJ/mol for the sized sphalerite and 54 kJ/mol for the sintered disks. The relatively high apparent activation energy suggests that the rate is chemically controlled, a conclusion supported by the insensitivity of the rate to the disk rotation speed. The rate increases as the 0.22 power of the Fe(SO4)1.5 concentration, and as the 0.22 power of the H2SO4 concentration. However, in the absence of ferric ions, the rate increases more significantly with increasing H2SO4 concentrations, and relatively rapid rates are observed in solutions containing >0.5 M H2SO4. In 0.1 M Fe(SO4)1.5-0.3 M H2SO4 media, the measured rate decreases with increasing sulphate concentrations, added as Li2SO4. The rate of dissolution of low-iron sphalerite is promoted by dissolved copper concentrations as high as 800 mg/L. In contrast, dissolved silver, even in the 0-2 mg/L concentration range, significantly retards the dissolution of the low-iron sphalerite.

The paragraphs quoted, regarding Mr. Hoover's appointment as chairman of the newly organized food board of the United States, are taken from the editorial page, of the New York Times for April 13: ?The country is fortunate in commanding the services of Herbert C. Hoover as Chairman of the newly established Food Board. This is n, problem of first importance. Few realize the extent to which American food stuffs will enter into the decision of the war, and it is doubtful if it has occurred to many minds as yet that we shall have to deny ourselves what we have regarded as necessaries in order to keep our European allies supplied. " Mr. Hoover is one of the leading mining engineers of the country. At the outbreak of the war he put his private affairs aside to become the head of the American Commission for Relief in Belgium. He has had an experience that perhaps no other man has ever had, covering the raising of money and the purchase and distribution of supplies on a large scale; He has been brought into close relations with the neutrals and the belligerents on both sides. By them all he is recognized is one of the best executives brought to the fore by the mar. Mr. Hoover is in a position now to place abilities and experience at the service of his country. He will come back with comparative data that will enable him to measure resources and deficiencies accurately. This appointment gives renewed assurance of our Government's grasp of the problems of war and its resolve to apply, business principles to their solution."

With the rapidly rising cost for electrical energy and the long range pre¬dictions for continued rising costs and even possible energy shortages, operation of rod, ball, autogenous and partial autogenous grinding circuits to efficiently utilize the power delivered to the mills will be demanded. This calls for a method to evaluate grinding circuit performance that is accurate, reliable and readily usable as an operating tool by supervisory, technical and operating personnel. Neither the Rittinger and Kick theories of comminution,(1) which preceded the Bond Theory by more than 50 years, had a mathematical means that could be used to predict and evaluate the performance of crushers and grinding mills used to comminute ores and rocks. This severly limited the practical use of these two theories, which were contradictory to each other. They have been superseded by the Bond Third Theory of Commnution.(1)

At Cominco's Zinc Refinery at Trail, British Columbia impurities are removed from zinc sulphate electrolyte by a two-stage purification process using zinc dust. Copper, cadmium and thallium are removed in the first stage whereas cobalt is removed in the second stage. Cobalt removal kinetics are affected by soluble antimony and copper additions to the electrolyte. This study was focused on the kinetics of cobalt removal by zinc powder cementation. Experimental variables included copper and antimony concentrations, pH and temperature. Common organic additives employed in zinc plants were studied to determine potential interactions with the cobalt removal process. Cementation products obtained from laboratory experiments and plant practice were studied using SEM. A number of significant results were obtained: 1. Copper and antimony ions were sustantially removed from solution during the early stages of the cementation reaction (within the first 15 minutes). Cobalt cementation kinetics are slow and follow a first order kinetic regime. 2. A drop in the cobalt removal rates can be correlated with a rise in the Eh of the slurry. 3. Ligninsulphonate, Percol 351 and animal glue at levels of 2 mg/L significantly impede cobalt cementation.

Manganese is one of the main impurities in the recovery of base metals from their ores. This is especially true when laterite ores are processed using the pressure acid leach (PAL) process. The use of intermediate precipitation, solids/liquid separation and re-leach in the three Western Australian nickel laterite plants to separate nickel and cobalt from manganese and other impurities makes these processes complicated and costly in capital and operation. The research work carried out by the solvent extraction (SX) group at the A J Parker Cooperative Research Centre for Hydrometallurgy (CSIRO Minerals) has led to the development of direct solvent extraction processes to separate nickel and cobalt from manganese and other impurities. The simplicity of the process flowsheets and the expected savings in capital and operating costs are the major advantages of the new direct solvent extraction processes over the existing processes. By using a new synergistic organic system, Versatic 10 / dccyl-4-pyridinccarboxylatc ester, with a pilot plant leach solution from BHP¬Billiton (after iron precipitation), the metal values (Ni and Co) together with zinc and copper were separated from manganese and other major impurities (Mg, Ca and Cl) in the first SX circuit. The co-extracted manganese, magnesium and calcium were easily scrubbed out. The extraction and stripping kinetics of the metals with the new synergistic organic system were very fast and the synergistic system was found to be chemically stable. pH-extraction isotherms of metals with D2EHPA showed that the extraction order as a function of pH50 was Zn2+ > Ca2+ > Mn2+ > Cu2+ > Co2+> Ni2+> Mg2+. Semi-continuous test work with a cobalt pilot plant leach solution from Peko Rehabilitation Project Pty Ltd and a synthetic solution to simulate a concentrated laterite leach solution from BHP-Billiton showed that manganese, together with calcium, copper and zinc can be separated from nickel, cobalt and magnesium. This led to the development of another direct solvent extraction process to separate manganese and other impurities from nickel and cobalt and to recover nickel and cobalt from leach solutions. A project was initiated by HiTec Energy Ltd to recover manganese from waste laterite leach solutions using SX technology and to further purify it to produce high purity electrolytic manganese dioxide (EMD) for the high quality alkaline battery industry. Batch tests were conducted to select a suitable organic system for the extraction of manganese in terms of selectivity and extraction and stripping kinetics. A total of eight organic systems were tested using waste laterite processing solutions. A Versatie 10 / synergist system showed very promising results. By using the synergistic system, high manganese recovery would be obtained, fewer SX stages would be required and a higher A:O ratio could be used in extraction, resulting in a smaller organic inventory and lower capital costs. IN the normal operation of the iron blast furnace, reduction of the iron oxides is accomplished almost entirely above the tuyeres.' Blast furnace slags usually contain less than 0.5 pct FeO, although higher values may occur with abnormal operation. There is reason to conjecture, however, that incompletely reduced ore may sometimes reach the hearth and enter the slag as a result of heavy slips or, perhaps, even from cores of excessively large lumps of a charge material of poor reducibility. The possibility of reoxidation of iron droplets falling in front of the tuyeres has been considered by several writers. It would be of interest, to know how rapidly iron oxides reaching the slag for any of these reasons could be reduced by reaction with coke or with the high carbon liquid iron in the hearth. In comparison with the hundreds of papers that have appeared on various aspects of the reduction of solid iron oxides by gases and in the presence of several forms of carbon, little work has been published on the reductioin of liquid oxides or slags. Dancey measured rates of reaction of the pure liquid oxides, both FeO and Fe,O,, with molten iron containing about 4.3 pct C. The oxide was dropped into the cup formed in the upper surface of the iron by rotating the crucible and melt. Under these conditions, reduction of either FeO or Fe,O., was completed in less than 10 sec. The present study was concerned with the reduction of FeO from blast furnace-type slags containing less than 5 pct FeO and melted over carbon-saturated iron in stationary graphite crucibles. The results were considerably different from those found by Dancey, as will be discussed later. Although this work is of interest in relation to hearth reactions in the blast furnace, interpretations must be made with caution because the experimental conditions do not duplicate those within a furnace and may not even lead to the same reaction mechanism. The authors were motivated in undertaking this work by an additional interest—the part played by FeO reduction in the mechanism of de-sulphurization of iron by slags under similar experimental conditions. Derge, Philbrook, and Goldman eveloped detailed experimental evidence to support a three-step mechanism for desulphurization like that originally proposed by Holbrook and Joseph' (These reactions are written in molecular form for convenience, but this is not intended to imply the existence of molecules of FeS in the bulk metal phase nor to deny the likelihood of ionic reactions in the slag.) Earlier work by Chang and Goldman" had shown that the overall reaction follows first-order kinetics with respect to sulphur and that the rate of reaction is proportional to the slag-metal interface area, which observations have been confirmed by subsequent work. Later studiese,' have established the influence of al.loying elements on the first and last steps of the reaction. This paper reports a study of step 3 alone, uncomplicated by the simultaneous process of sulphur transfer. Apparatus and Procedure The experiments were made in a conventional high frequency induction furnace powered by a 35 kva Hg spark gap converter. The graphite crucibles used for most of the runs were 14 cm (5.5 in.) deep and 4.8 cm (1.9 in.) ID with 0.75 cm (0.3 in.) wall. An insulating cover with a small opening for withdrawing samples was used to minimize heat loss and infiltration of air into the furnace. The crucible was charged with 300 g of carbon-saturated iron and either 65 or 100 g of prefused slag analyzing 38.0 pct SiO,, 15.4 pct A10 and 47.1 pct CaO. To obtain the cleanest possible interface at the start of the reaction, the metal and slag were brought to temperature together to prevent the rejection of kish graphite that would have been caused by the chilling effect of a large addition of cold slag to carbon-saturated iron. After temperature control had been established, the desired amount of iron oxide was added in the form of a prefused slag of composition 73.6 pct FeO, 7.7 pct AWX and 19.0 pct SiOl. This slag addition was observed to be molten in somewhat less than 1 min, and a very vigorous reaction proceeded for 1 to 2 min after its introduction. Zero time was taken as 2 min after the ferrous silicate slag addition. Slag samples weighing about 0.5 g each were taken periodically by a copper chill sampler." The weight of the initial slag was large relative to the weight of samples removed, so that the slag weight never varied by more than 5 pct during any run. Temperature was measured by a calibrated W/Mo thermocouple immersed in the metal, with a graphite tip cemented over the fused silica protection tube to prevent attack by slag and metal. After some difficulties with uncertain temperatures during the first two runs, the practice adopted to position the thermocouple for reproducible results was to lower the protection tube to touch the bottom of the crucible and then raise it 0.5 cm. The apparent temperature gradient between the bottom of the crucible and the top of the slag was found to be 15°C (27°F). but much of this spread was probably the result of inadequate immersion of the protection tube to off-set conduction losses along the graphite tip when the thermocouple was inserted only into the slag. The temperature of the bath was controlled within 25°C (9°F) during a run.

This paper on the physical and chemical properties of crude oils from California fields is one of a series of reports on the oil-producing districts of the United States. The paper includes a short discussion of results, tabular data, and individual analyses of 16 California crude oils. Analyses of other oil from California have been published in Reports of Investigations 25954/, 26085/, 28466/, and 30747/. The samples were obtained by members of the San Francisco office of the Bureau of Mines. The collecting of the samples vas facilitated by the courtesy of representatives of oil companies in California.
