Pre-concentration of precious metal and base metal ore types is becoming more relevant with the discovery, development and operation of many lower grade deposits around the world. The fluctuations in metal prices expose many mines to risks especially dealing with low and variable ore grades.Pre-concentration, the process of concentrating the valuable metal into a smaller mass yield, effectively results in the introduction of higher feed grades to milling circuits. Gangue Rejection, the removal of lower S.G. waste rock from the circuit not only results in higher downstream grades but also potentially removes harder, non-valuable mineral, providing significant power savings within the circuit. The pre-concentration or ‘gangue rejection’ process offers a number of benefits when considering the treatment of marginal ore deposits, especially if it can be performed at a coarse crush size; these benefits include a reduction of the operating costs and the feed of more metal units to the mill.Gekko Systems has effectively utilized the Inline Pressure Jig (IPJ) to pre-concentrate the valuable metal, achieving high primary recoveries into a range of mass yields resulting in upgrade ratios between 2 and 10 times.This paper explores the benefits of pre-concentrating ‘marginal’ ore deposits prior to the milling circuit; the selective rejection of ore types that may affect either the recovery or comminution process, and also looks into the potential to effectively reduce the ‘cut-off’ grade when considering the mine planning process. In this work, bioleaching of non-sulphidic materials by applying chemoheterotrophic bacteria and fungi is studied. It was found that the tested fungus, Aspergillus niger, leached substantially more nickel from olivine than the tested bacterium, Bacillus mucilaginosus. A. niger also outperformed fungal species Humicola grisae and Penicillium chrysogenum in the leaching of olivine. Contrary to traditional acid leaching, the microorganisms leached nickel preferentially over magnesium and iron. On average, a selectivity factor of 2.2 was achieved for nickel compared to iron. This can potentially facilitate postprocessing of the leach liquor and reduce the cost. The impact of ultrasonic conditioning on bioleaching was also tested, and substantial increase in nickel extraction with A. niger was observed. This was credited to an increase in the fungal growth rate, the promotion of particle degradation, and the detachment of the stagnant biofilm around the particles. Furthermore, ultrasonic conditioning enhanced the selectivity of A. niger for nickel, resulting in a selectivity ratio for Ni/Fe equal to 3.5. The chemical resistance of the selected microorganisms to several heavy metal and metalloid (As(III,V), Cd, Cr(III,V), Ni, Pb, Zn) was evaluated. It was found that, with the exception of As(v) and Cd, A. niger has high tolerance to these components. Therefore, this biohydrometallurgical route can potentially be applied to non-sulphidic wastederived materials, such as industrial slags, ashes and sludges.

In the last two years, C-CORE has developed a new seabed sampler directed specifically at obtaining samples from hard or compacted bottoms such as are typical of marine placer deposits. Samples are required for appraisal of concentrations of saleable commodities, and for determination of levels of biological indicators in the deposits. Recently C-CORE and the University of Victoria have been comparing the performance of the Scott/C-CORE sampler with that of the Van Veen sampler often used for biological sampling. Initial trials of the Scott/C-CORE sampler in 1992 at the WestGold mining site, Nome, Alaska, were described by Jewitt et al. at the 1993 UMI. Since that time the sampler has been modified to prevent overfilling, and to limit turbulent flow of water across the top of the sampler buckets when the sampler is recovered with partly-open buckets. The modifications included shoes to prevent sampler overfill, and flexible rubber shielding over top and sides of the sampler to prevent water circulation. Samples have been taken with both samplers in two field areas, one at Pine Cove, Baie Verte, Newfoundland, and the other near Long Pond in Conception Bay on the Avalon Peninsula, Newfoundland. In each area multiple samples were taken with both sampler types, and the samples processed immediately to establish the types and quantities of marine organisms that were present. Species identification is expected to be complete by late August.

IN recent years, the interest in liquid metals as heat-transfer media for power plants has been very great. The possibility of the development of nuclear power plants has increased this interest and served as the impetus behind much research on low melting metals and alloys for such purposes. The principal reasons for consideration of liquid metals as heat-transfer media lie in their high thermal conductivity and consequent high heat-transfer coefficients, stability at high temperatures, and the high ranges of temperature possible. The element gallium possesses some of the requisite properties for a heat-transfer liquid. It is a unique material, having a low melting point and a high boiling point. Pure gallium melts at 29.78oC, and suitable alloying will produce a metal which melts below room temperature. The boiling point is about 2000°C. As it is a liquid metal, the heat-transfer characteristics would be good. Gallium is not now readily available, due in part to a lack of uses for the metal. Nevertheless, it is not a rare element, and a sufficient supply of gallium exists to permit its consideration for this use. Since gallium has some promise as a heat-transfer liquid, owing to its unique properties, research on the subject was carried on at Battelle Memorial Institute at the request of the Bureau of Ships, U.S.N. The research had as its objectives the determination of the effect of alloying on the melting point of gallium, and the study of the corrosion of possible container materials. In this research, alloys were found which had significantly lower melting points than pure gallium, but none which simultaneously fulfilled other additional requirements, chiefly the corrosion problem. Neither was it found possible to reduce the melting point of certain otherwise suitable alloys appreciably by small additions of gallium or gallium alloys. The results gave little hope that gallium alloys can be developed which enhance the good properties and minimize the undesirable characteristics of elemental gallium. Thus, gallium now appears less promising than other metallic heat-transfer media. The experimental thermal-analysis techniques used in this work have been described.' Experimental Results As a first approximation, the development of low melting gallium alloys was based on alloying elements suitable for use in a nuclear power plant, which also lowered the melting point of gallium. Information from the literature, summarized in Table I, indicates that. tin, aluminum, and zinc are the only suitable elements which cause a lowering of the melting point of gallium. Indium and silver also lower the melting point of gallium, but are of little interest for use in nuclear power plants. Of the elements reported not to lower the melting point of gallium, there is some ambiguity on the behavior of copper. Weibke3 obtained solidus arrest temperatures of 29°C for Cu-Ga alloys from 60 to 90 pct Ga, 0.8C lower than the generally accepted melting point. This may be the effect of a eutectic close to gallium, or, more likely, the result of impurities, or experimental error. The seven elements listed in Table I whose effects were not known were of potential interest if they lowered the melting point of gallium. Their effects were determined experimentally for this reason. Binary alloys containing nominally 2 pct of each of these elements were prepared in the form of 2-g melts by placing the components in a graphite crucible and holding them in an argon atmosphere at 370°C for 5 hr. These melts were then subjected to thermal analysis. In all cases. the solidus temperature was the melting point of gallium. Since these elements (As, Ca, Ce, Mg. Sb, Si, and T1) did not lower the melting point of gallium, they were not considered further as components of a eutectic-type alloy. Ga-Sn-Zn Alloys Preliminary considerations of this system for low-melting alloys were encouraging. All three binary systems were of the simple eutectic type. The composition and melting points of the eutectics were as follows: Sn-9 pct Zn (199°C), Ga-8 pct Sn (20°C), and Ga-5 pct Zn (25°C). Therefore, the probability of a ternary eutectic was high. For reasons to be discussed later, aluminum could not be used as an alloying constituent, leaving the Ga-Sn-Zn system as the only one of interest for low-melting gallium-

A sustained drop in the grade of Mount Isa lead-zinc-silver ore occurred in mid 1980. It was decided to increase concentrator throughput from 200 000 to 240 000 tonnes/four week period to maintain budget metal production. To achieve this increase whilst maintaining acceptable grinding and flotation performance, crushing plant final product size had to be reduced from 100%-13mm to 1000-11.2mm. The goal in the crushing plant was to achieve a 20% increase in throughput with a 20% decrease in the top size of the product. This was achieved by operational changes to improve plant availability and optimisation of the existing crushing and screening equipment Performance.

Since 1978, the Colorado Department of Health has become involved in specific investigations of possible radiation hazards among nonminers in Colorado communities. In each instance, the improper disposal of mill tailings has precipitated concerns and allegations of radiation hazards. This presentation is a brief summary of the findings, to date, of 4 such investigations involving tailings disposal problems in Canon City, Denver, Durango and Grand Junction, Colorado. Canon City In the summer of 1979, allegations of excessive cancer incidence were made at public hearings concerning an application for a Radioactive Materials License submitted to the Colorado Department of Health by the Cotter Corporation for a uranium mill at Canon City. Canon City is the site of a uranium mill operated since 1958 by Commonwealth Edison. Local residents accumulated figures and calculated rates suggesting a 2-fold excess in total cancer mortality. These rates were not adjusted or standardized for demographic varibles. A review of cancer mortality data and computation of age standardized rates for years 1950 through 1977 showed that Canon City's cancer mortality rates were within expected limits, actually lower than rates for the State of Colorado or the United States. The first slide shows rates for every fifth year, 1950 through 1975. Further, an analysis of Canon City cancer incidence data from the Colorado Central Cancer Registry revealed that 1979 incidence rates were not significantly different from Colorado rates, with the exception of prostate cancer. The next slide shows age standardized incidence rates for lung, colon, breast and prostate cancer. Data were also reviewed for leukemia, myeloma, lymphoma and cancers of the thyroid stomach, uterine certix, ovary, kidney, bladder-and brain, however, small numbers of cases prevented meaningful rate calculation. 1980 data are presently being analyzed. None of the data yet examined support allegations of radiation-associated cancer in Canon City. Denver In February of 1979, the Department of Health became aware of a number of radium mill tailing deposits in the Denver metropolitan area, remnants of the radium milling industry of the early 1900's. Several of the deposits were situated so as to possibly contribute significantly to radiation exposure of a small number of people over a period of several decades. The Department developed protocols for radiation surveys, dosage estimates and, for a small number of persons, body burdens determinations and peripheral blood lymphocyte cytogenetic studies. The results of this investigation suggested no measurable biomedical impact as a result of the radium deposits. Durango In October of 1979, a physician residing in Durango, Colorado released information from a preliminary analysis of lung cancer data suggesting an incidence rate several times expected in that city. The data were presented at a meeting of a citizen's group concerned about the possible health hazards of 2 uranium mill tailing deposits located in the south end of the city. Since cancer incidence data generally do not exist in most of western Colorado, a team of epidemiologists was dispatched to Durango to work with local physicians and hospitals in conducting an epidemiologic study of selected cancers for the period 1969 through 1978. After case-finding and record abstracting were completed, it was determined that sufficient data were available for study of only 3 sites: lung cancer, breast cancer and leukemia. The next slide shows age standardized incidence rates for these 3 sites for 1969-1978 for Durango and the State of Colorado. There are no significant differences in these rates. The data did show a geographic peculiarity with regards to the relative proportion of tumor types near the tailings deposits as opposed to away from the deposits, however, this finding is based upon very small numbers of cases and may represent only the random excursion of rates based upon small observations. This investigation suggests that if a carcinogenic hazard is present, it is too small to be detected by the study method employed. Grand Junction The Department of Health has been involved in the Grand Junction mill tailings problem for several years. In 1966, the Department issued an order terminating the practice of free public access to a 55-acre pile of uranium mill tailings. Prior to this order, an estimated 300,000 tons of material was removed. Of this amount, an estimated 50,000 tons was presumably used in residential and commercial construction. Despite many allegations of cancer and birth defects excesses in Grant Junction since the mid 1960s, the first epidemiologic study of cancer was conducted in the spring of 1977. Data from the Colorado Central Cancer Registry were analyzed and reported to the Executive Director of the Department of Health in June of that year. The findings of the first and preliminary study were an unexplained excess of acute leukemia and chronic myelocytic leukemia. The excess was based upon small numbers but was present across all age groups. No increase in chronic lymphocytic leukemia was evident.

In the investigation reported here, calorimetric measurements have been made to determine the heat of formation of the compound AuSb2 and the partial gram-atomic enthalpies of antimony and gold in dilute solution in liquid tin and their enthalpy interaction coefficients. In order to interpret the behavior of antimony and gold in dilute solution in tin, nonzero values are assigned to the energies of bonds between like solute atoms relative to the pure solute state. Sa.mples of the compound AuSb2 were prepared by melting stoichiometric amounts of antimony and gold (99.999 pct pure) in evacuated and sealed Vycor tubes, which were shaken vigorously and quenched in water. The ingots were annealed in evacuated and sealed tubes at approximately 700°K for 2 weeks. Metallo-graphic and X-ray examinations gave no indication of second phases or microsegregation. The samples were added from 273°K to tin-rich solutions in a solution calorimeter1 maintained at 623°K. The calorimeter was calibrated with tin; the heat content of tin, H623°K- H273°K, was taken as 4.08 kcal per g-atom.2 In each calorimetric run at least four additions were made. The total concentration of solutes in the bath at the end of any run did not exceed 1 at. pct. The measured heat effect of an addition was plotted against the average of the atom fractions x of Sb + Au in solution before and after that addition. From this plot the heat effect at infinite dilution h,,, and the composition dependence of the heat effect dh/dx in the composition range 0 < x < 0.01 were obtained. The results for the additions of antimony, mixtures of antimony and gold, and the compound AuSb2 are listed in Table I. The heat effect h on addition of a sample of the compound AuSb2 or a mechanical mixture of antimony and gold at 273°K to a tin-rich solution at 623°K can be expressed as:

Specific energy is defined as the amount of work required to break a unit volume of rock and is used to predict the performance of mechanical miners. It is obtained from full-scale rock cutting experiments, which require large block samples, experienced personnel and expensive equipment found in only a few research centres in the world. Estimation of the optimum specific energy, at which a given geological formation is excavated at optimum cutting geometry in the most energy efficient manner, from mechanical rock properties to predict the performance/efficiency of roadheaders is the basic aim of this study. The mechanical rock property tests require only core samples, which are easier to obtain and to test. In this context, full-scale rock cutting tests are performed on 23 different rock, mineral and ore samples including sandstone, claystone, tuffite, chromite, trona and copper collected from some operating mines in Turkey. The optimum specific energy values are obtained for each sample. Physical and mechanical property tests are performed on the core samples obtained from the same samples to determine uniaxial compressive strength, indirect (Brazilian) tensile strength, static and dynamic elasticity moduli, Schmidt hammer rebound values, density, and Cerchar abrasivity index. The relationships between the optimum specific energy and the mechanical rock properties are analysed using statistical methods. The results indicate strong relationships between the optimum specific energy and the mechanical rock properties. The strongest relationships are found by using uniaxial compressive strength and tensile strength. The performance models developed in this study are in good agreement with the empirical models previously developed for roadheaders and can be used reliably for prediction purposes. The exploration methods used by the British Coal Corporation in 1990 improve the geological reliability of underground coal production. Although some of the techniques in common use have been proved to be effective, their limitations are recognised and concentration has been on the increasing integration of direct and remote sensing techniques. Attention is focussed onto first seam workings in sections of at least 2 metres in the depth range of 400-1200 metres and covers both surface and underground exploration. The case studies of exploration techniques and their effect on mine design at several existing collieries are representative of a wide range of geological environments within the more productive British coalfields. Notwithstanding such improvements in exploration and geological reliability, further new exploration technology is currently being investigated or trialled by British Coal.

The removal of metals from an acid mine drainage (Leviathan Mine, Alpine County, California) water by precipitate flotation was investigated. The Leviathan waters vary from about pH 4.0 to pH <2.0and contain from about 2,000 to about 12,000 ppm SO42-.The main multivalent metals present in solution are Fe, Ca, Mg, Al and Mn. Both Cu and Co are present in small amounts. The pH was adjusted with lime. The collector used was either sodium oleate or tall oil. The sodium oleate was used as a function of pH to establish optimum flotation conditions and the tall oil was used only at the optimum pH. Dow Froth 250 was used as a frother. In some test additional Cu was added to the system. Excellent recovery of Fe and Cu were achieved at optimum pH. The process achieves results comparable to precipitation and filtration without as much problems with screens blinding because of less material to filter.

Detailed characterization of all the powder constituents during powder processing is necessary for the reproducible manufacture of ceramic components that will perform reliably in intended applications. In this paper, selected physical and surface chemical techniques for characterization of silicon nitride powder are evaluated. The characterization data are discussed in the context of how these data, through their influence on powder processing unit operations, can affect the final microstructure. In the forming of ceramics, some of the major variables of injection molding are evaluated. Accurate measurement and control of these variables is emphasized for manufacture of Si3N4 ceramics with a high degree of reliability.

SEEBECK discovered, in 1821, that if, in a closed circuit of two metals the two junctions are at different temperatures, an electric current will flow in the circuit. In the case of an iron and a copper wire, for example, current will flow from copper to iron at the hot junction, or from iron to copper at the cold junction. Two factors combine to cause the current. An electromotive force exists between the two metals, the magnitude of which, depends upon the temperature and upon the metals; this is called the Peltier e.m.f. If a single wire of homogeneous material is heated at one end, an electromotive force is developed between the ends of the wire, the magnitude of which depends upon the metal and upon the difference in temperature; this is known as the Thomson e.m.f: The total e.m.f. acting in the circuit is the sum of the Peltier e.m.f. at the two junctions and the Thomson e.m.f. in each wire, consideration being given, of course, to the algebraic signs of the four e.m.f.&apos;s. Denison Mines Corp. (“Denison”) has a 90% interest in the Wheeler River Uranium Project (“Wheeler River”) located along the eastern edge of the Athabasca Basin in northern Saskatchewan between the Key Lake mill and the McArthur River uranium mine. The project is host to the high-grade Phoenix and Gryphon uranium deposits, discovered by Denison in 2008 and 2014 respectively, which include combined Indicated Mineral Resources of 132.1 million pounds U3O8 (1,809,000 tonnes at an average grade of 3.3% U3O8). The Pre-Feasibility Study (“PFS”), completed in accordance with NI 43-101 in September 2018, is highlighted by the selection of the In-Situ Recovery (“ISR”) mining method for the development of the Phoenix deposit, with an estimated average operating cost of $4.33 (US$3.33) per pound U3O8. Phoenix is the highest-grade undeveloped uranium deposit known globally, including Indicated Mineral Resources of 166,000 tonnes at 19.1% U3O8 for 70.2 million pounds U3O8. The paper aims to provide a summary of Wheeler River and an overview of the proposed development of the Phoenix and Gryphon deposits according to the PFS completed for the Project. Further details regarding the PFS, including additional scientific and technical information are described in greater detail in the NI 43-101 Technical Report titled "Pre-Feasibility Study for the Wheeler River Uranium Project, Saskatchewan, Canada" dated October 30, 2018 with an effective date of September 24, 2018. "Pure aluminum (Al) matrix composites with changing the volume fraction of TiB2 particle content from 10 to 30% was fabricated by spark plasma sintering (SPS) process. Then the microstructure, density, dispersibility and thermal conductivity of the composites was estimated. As increasing TiB2 content, the dispersibility of particles and the density of the composites degraded slightly. And, the effect of the dispersibility of TiB2 particles on the thermal conductivity was quite little. The thermal conductivity of the composites was less than the theoretical value calculated by Maxwell-Eucken equation considering the effect of the density. It is due the influence of the interface heat transfer rate, because these composites have many small sized particles and have high interface density.INTRODUCTION Recently, metal matrix composites (MMCs) have been used widely in electric / electronic components, architectural materials, transportation equipment, aerospace and a precision instruments, because it’s superior properties have been greatly watched. Demand of MMC for industrial use has been increasing gradually. Furthermore, multifunction properties are required for the composites strongly. By integrating the dissimilar materials, the composites have various properties that we cannot get from monolithic materials. On the other hand, the response to the thermal management is required for materials, recently, and the need for the structural material controlling the thermal conductivity has been increasing. Especially, superior thermal conductivity and good mechanical properties from room temperature to high temperature are required for heat sink and heat exchanger at the same time. In late years, a study on the composites combining carbon materials and aluminum and copper has been developing, and actually the composites with high thermal conductivity which is not provided in the conventional materials is developed. On the other hand, non-oxide ceramics particles such as SiC and AlN, TiB2 have good thermal conductivity. Particularly, as TiB2 has good electrical conductivity, TiB2 containing MMCs is expected as innovative materials used as electric/ electronic components. Furthermore, as TiB2 has low density, high melting point, low thermal expansion and good deformation resistance, the development of high performance composites with multi-functional properties is expected. As thermal conductivity of pure Al and TiB2 are 225 and 66.4 W/mK, respectively, it is expected that the degradation of thermal conductivity by adding dispersant in Al matrix is suppressed. The authors have carried out a thermal conductivity, electrical conductivity, mechanical properties of 20 vol.% TiB2 dispersed Al composites (Sugio, 2016, Sasaki, 2016). In this study, the influence of quantity of addition of TiB2 on microstructure, thermal conductivity was studied minutely."

Outokumpu introduced Flash Flotation in the early l 980's for the recovery of floatable material from grinding circuits. The devel­opment came as a result of surveys made in the company's own concentrators, initiated to find ways of improving recoveries with increasingly complex and lower grade feeds. Hydrocyclones make a separation on the basis of particle size and mass, resulting in the "over collection" of fine grained, high S.G. particles. Minerals such as pentlandite, galena and gold are easily caught in the circulating load around the mill until they are overground and rendered more difficult to collect. In the case of downstream flotation this may simply involve a reduction in the rate coefficient due to the finer sizes or, as is commonly experienced in gold operations, the mate­rial is slimed and coated onto non-floating gangue and is eventual­ly lost to tails. At the time of Outokumpu's plant surveys, it was a relatively common practice, particularly in Pb operations, to have a flotation section fed directly from the secondaiy mill discharge. This is called unit flotation and certainly provided an improvement but very high wear rates and frequent sanding out of the cells was com­mon. The development of the SkimAir® Flash Flotation cell by Outokumpu provided a subtle but quite dramatic departure from the unit cell approach. Now it was possible to feed cyclone under­flow into a special purpose-built flotation machine and recover a final grade concentrate from the grinding circuit (see Figure I). The cell was designed to handle the coarse circulating load, per­mitting the coarsest fractions to be short-circuited back to the mill and retain the floatable sizes for a nominal time of 30 seconds to several minutes. The short retention time was possible largely due to the relatively clean content of the cyclone underflow stream. This means that the fine gangue is not present except in small quan­tities and most of the fine to mid-size paiiicles are higher S.G. and more likely represent valuable mineral. This condition provides for very high rate coefficients. Typical operations would recover 40-60% of the valuable mineral in this fashion and improvements in recovery were typically from 2-5% for sulphide minerals to the 5-20% range for gold and silver.

The manufacture of coke in Peru, as practiced at the coalmines of the Quishuarcancha and Goyllarisquisca districts, is intermediate between the primitive coke-heap and the bee-hive oven. The method of coking is quite simple. In constructing the coal-heap, preparatory to burning, the ground is first leveled, and a simple stack of stone and clay is built, giving the bottom, to a height of 6 ft., approximately 6 ft. of external diameter. The size of the stack varies in different districts, but is generally 9 ft. high, and slightly smaller at the top than at the bottom. The walls of the heap are from 12 to 14 in. thick, which allows an inside diameter of from 3.75 to 4 ft. These walls are pierced at intervals by three or more tiers of openings or flues, connected with the central flue. The radial flues have a diameter of about 5 in. and are built with a gentle upward slope. The stack (shown in Fig. 1) is permanent; and in this respect the practice in Peru differs from other primitive practices in which nothing is permanent except the yard. Above the permanent 6-ft. portion of the stack there is added a cap of clay, about 3 ft. high, which contracts toward the top, where it has an inside diameter of about 2 ft. This clay cap is temporary, and frequently has to be renewed after each burning. Before charging the coal, there are first built, from the lowest tier of flues upon the ground, a number of temporary flues, leading from the central stack out to the edge of the coal-heap, and constructed of blocks of coal for the greater part of the distauce, the outer edge alone being of rough stoue. SECTIONS 1. INTRODUCTION.—In this investigation the meltingpoint and the specific heat of certain artificial silicates were determined by the method of mixtures, using a large platinum-ball pyrometer. The silicates were placed in platinum crucibles on the hearth of a small regenerative gas-furnace (Figs. 1 and 2), and the platinum ball was placed between them. The temperature of the furnace was usually raised very slowly, the behavior of the silicates being observed as they gradually grew hotter; and their temperature was ascertained indirectly from time to time by determining that of the platinum ball, which to that end was temporarily withdrawn from the furnace and immersed in a known weight of water in a calorimeter. The weight and specific heat of water and of platinum ball being known (the specific heat of the latter approximately), it mas possible to calculate the temperature of the platinum ball, which was assumed to have been substantially that of the silicates which surrounded it in the furnace. The specific heat of the silicates also was determined by the method of mixtures. Their temperature having been determined as just described, one of them was dropped into a known weight of water in a calorimeter, whose rise of temperature was then noted. Knowing the weight and initial temperature of the silicate, its specific heat was wily calculated. The reults obtained, especially as regards the melting-point, must be regarded as first approximations. The technical difficulties encountered were so serious as to raise doubts, now from one cause, .now from another, as to the accuracy of most of the results: hence I give but a few, those which were reached without mishap, and with proper observation of the various precautions. To the layman or the casual in- vestor, the critical problems in the mining industry appear to rest on the questions of finding and developing an orebody. The high cost of finding a major orebody suggests that the search is the only matter of real concern. However, the resulting operations which hopefully will provide a profit- able return, depend very heavily on the quality of the servicing that the particular industry receives. Once the mining venture has been established with the necessary plant, equipment and infrastructure, the routine servicing becomes an important function of the operations.
