As a part of mine operation’s success key, Community Development nowadays seems to be a rule of thumb. Not only is for a short term need of the company during their operation but also for the national public opinion on the presence of the mining industry to a certain region. Nanggung region which is only a 2-hour drive from Jakarta, brings the challenges to Antam’s gold mine business in the areas such as illegal miner presence, easy access to the mine area as it is very close to the community, and national political sensitivity considering its proximity to Jakarta. The company allocates about 3%of its total operational cost annually for Community Development pro-gram. The program is derived through SWOT analysis and broad involvement of all community components to assure that the allocated fund is addressed to the right place. In the year of 2002, the company has successfully established a conducive-relation with the community.

In hydrometallurgical technological flowsheets several methods of target components removal from solution are used. One of these methods is non-ferrous metals removal in the form of rich selective or collective concentrates. In the present work pyrometallugical mattes, thiosulphate containing solutions and pulps, iron powder with elemental sulphur and calcium sulphate were used as the precipitator. It was shown that depending on precipitator compound and process parameters non-ferrous metals precipitate from solution in the different forms with varying content of components including Ni3S2, NiS, Ni3S4, NiS2, (Ni,Co)S2, CuS; Cu1,765S; Cu1,97S.

Stringent environmental regulations, which have limited the use of sludge ponds, coupled with the economic incentive to clean more coal or to add fine coal cleaning additions to existing preparation plants have increased the use of static thickeners in preparation plants. The Lamella Gravity Settler, sometimes designated Lamella Thickener, is a shallow depth sedimentation device which has been applied in a variety of industrial process and wastewater control projects in place of the conventional raked thickeners. This paper presents the theory and design of the Lamella Thickener, as well as describing the operating results from several full scale installations in a variety of Appalachian preparation plants.

The prevalent use of coal combustion byproducts in engineering applications has been with Class C and Class F fly ash as admixtures in structural concrete. But, the use of fly ash and bottom ash byproducts from modern desulfurization processes is receiving increased attention. The University of Kentucky has been conducting research into civil- and mining-engineering applications of these products. The studies have included extensive investigation of the geomechanical behavior of the materials and the effect of mineralogy on this behavior. These studies indicate important mineralogical considerations in the selection of materials for a specific application and highlight the importance of quality control before and during usage on specific projects.

The 345 km long Taiwan High Speed Rail Project will connect the island’s two most populated cities, Taipei and Kaohsiung. Kaohsiung is the world’s third busiest port. The 23 km of alignment on Contract C230 requires the construction of 5,879 m of shallow mined tunnels ranging from 137 m to 1,285 m in length. All nine of these tunnels are mined using NATM methodology. Two of the tunnels, T01 and T08 are in the Toukoshan Formation. This paper will discuss the mining methods, ground support design, and the instrumentation installed to monitor and verify its effectiveness in the two aforementioned tunnels.

Este trabajo tiene como objetivo mostrar la importancia de la minería junior en la creación de nuevas minas, así como en el mercado de valores. Este documento tocará los retos por los que está atravesando el sector junior, y analizará las acciones, factores, estrategias y documentos públicos provistos por ciertas mineras junior que lograron llegar a su objetivo. En el primer capítulo de esta tesis se abarcará los conceptos esenciales para poder conocer la minería junior en el cual se precisarán definiciones tale como la de éxito, valor y objetivos que buscan alcanzar este tipo de empresas. En el segundo capítulo se analizará cómo la minería junior ha contribuido en la exploración minera a nivel global. De la misma manera, se identificarán los principales desafíos que están impidiendo que las mineras junior continúen con sus operaciones exploratorias normalmente. El tercer capítulo tiene como finalidad realizar el estudio y análisis de aquellas mineras que llegaron al éxito, para realizar esto se ha recopilado toda la información relevante que puede haber contribuido a que la minera junior analizada haya cumplido su objetivo. Por último, se presentaran una serie de ratios, estrategias y variables extraídos del análisis de las mineras junior exitosas para poder identificar a las actuales junior que están encaminadas al éxito.

A reappraisal of the stratigraphy, new regional kinematic analysis and thermobarometric data allow a new interpretation of the metamorphic zoning and tectonic structure of the Upper Eocene high-pressure metamorphic core complex of northern New Caledonia allow a three steps evolution to be proposed : 1) subduction and understacking of previously thinned continental crust elements; 2) subduction blocking due to the crustal thickening; 3) crustal thinning and extensional detachment during the diapir-like uplift and unroofing of the eclogitic core. Steps 2 and 3 may be partly contemporaneous. Such a model accounts for the thermobarometric and radiochronologic data, and also for the weakness of substratum deformation during the emplacement of the ophiolitic nappe.

Data from about 3200 drill holes in the offshore area at Nome, Alaska was digitized and processed. Most drill hole files have associated lithology, gold value, and blow count descriptions for each drill hole. The gold intensity was used to present the potential gold resource in the study area on the world wide web. A web page was created that gives background information on the project, descriptions about the Nome area, maps of the claim blocks that include all the normalized slices of gold deposits, and links to other relevant sites on the web. All integrated steel plants have hospitals of 650 – 750 bed capacity with modern facilities to serve it's employees and adjoining localities in a clean and sustainable environment.According to the Bio-Medical Waste(Management and Handling) Rules, 1998 and as amended to date, all Bio-Medical waste which is generated during the diagnosis, treatment or immunization of human beings or in research activities pertaining thereto or in the production or testing of biologicals are to be categorized and taken to any facility wherein treatment, disposal of this waste or processes incidental to such treatment or disposal is carried out.The hospital management has created adequate treatment facility for Sharp and Infectious Waste, Pathological Waste and Anatomical Waste through Autoclave, Shredding Machine and developing deep burial pits. Some of these hospitals is ISO 9000-14000 certified. The Bureau of Mines conducted tests on seven samples of Florida phosphate operations.slimes to develop a method to recover phosphate presently being discarded because of its small grain size. A system of hydrocyclones and hydroseparators was used to recover up to 96 pct of the plus 400-mesh material from the slimes. This plus 400-mesh material was subjected to fatty acid flotation, and concentrates containing up to 33.4 pct P205 were produced. As much as 88 pct of the phosphate (P205) was recovered from the plus 400-mesh material, and up to 29.6 pct was recovered from the total slimes.
