The mineral industry consisted primarily of natural gas production and of urea fertilizer, which was manufactured for domestic agriculture. Copper and iron deposits were being developed. Information regarding the mineral industry of Afghanistan was sparse. The Government continued to emphasize the development of mineral resources that could benefit the economy of the U.S.S.R. and repay Soviet grants. The northern half of the country, north of the Hindu Kush mountain range and adjacent to the U.S.S.R., received considerable Soviet aid to develop mineral resources.

El presente texto señala los beneficios en el control de operaciones de la concentradora de Toquepala. Entre los principales tenemos: la reducción de costos de producción por concepto de menor consumo de insumos, un mayor control de la planta a través de nuevos indicadores de gestión, se mejora la migración de información de planta al sistema SIC y se desarrolla la confiabilidad en la información contenida y proporcionada por SIC. Asímismo, la información contenida en el sistema permite obtener respuestas de mejora más rápidas al Departamento de metalurgia y operaciones.

Siendo el Cu un metal de interés mundial, requiere que los nuevos avances tecnológicos se direccionen hacia minimizar costos de producción y ambientales, a la fecha su recuperación se viene realizando mediante técnicas separadas de pirometalurgia e hidrometalurgia; en consecuencia se propone como alternativa realizar la electrodisolución-electrodeposición instantánea, en una sola etapa, aplicados para minerales cupriferos.

The complex mineralogy of the Porgera resource has a pronounced effect on process selection for the recovery of refractory gold and silver. Intimate association of gold with pyrite necessitates a high degree of sulphur preoxidation to achieve acceptable levels of gold recovery. Acid pressure oxidation has been demonstrated to be the only commercially proven process capable of achieving the required level of pyrite oxidation. Gangue mineralization dictates preconcentration of the sulphides to limit the acid consuming capacity and carbon dioxide generation during oxidation. However, the relationship between concentrate sulphur grade and gold recovery to concentrate ultimately governs the optimum degree of sulphide preconcentration. Minipiloting of the preconcentration and oxidation stages of the Porgera flowsheet are described. The influence of these processes on subsequent recovery of precious metals together with the technical and economic necessity of concentrate pretreatment prior to oxidation are discussed.

La ejecución de una obra subterránea conlleva el análisis, interpretación y la resolución de encontrar la mejor “canalización” de las tensiones generadas alrededor de la excavación subterránea, de forma que determine la integridad y la vida útil de la excavación. En ese sentido, el presente texto describe la aplicación del método de deformación controlada en la ejecución de labores a través de la determinación de las tensiones en juego, de las propiedades resistentes y de deformación del terreno. Por ello, es necesario conocer el medio donde se desarrollarán las operaciones, la acción ejercida para efectuar la excavación y la reacción esperada tras la excavación.
