The concept of alteration indicator minerals is presented to aid in identifying the ideal spectral sensor and processing for alteration vectoring. Exploration geologists commonly struggle to understand the technical specifications of remote sensing and field portable spectral systems. This often results in the selection of spectral systems that are inadequate for the metallogenic environment of interest, and in a myriad of processed imagery that rest uninteligible and unused.

Este estudio se basa en un probable nuevo descubrimiento de un yacimiento de Au, en las rocas del volcánico Llallahui (Grupo Tacaza – Terciario Medio a Superior), que podría estar ligado a la ocurrencia de yacimientos epitermales de Au del sur del Perú. Se trata de un yacimiento epitermal de baja sulfuración, emplazado en autobrechas y tobas donde mediente los análisis químicos de los muestreos realizados se determinó valores de leyes en Au 0,10g/TM a 0,81g/TM, estimandose recursos inferidos de 70MT @0,10-0,80 g/t de Au, lo cual convierten en un prospecto de gran potencial.

La exploración profunda posee una serie de retos, como el incremento de los costos de perforación y la incapacidad de las metodologías convencionales de exploración de obtener datos de calidad. Las nuevas tecnologías tales como ORION 3D, proporcionan un medio para explorar el subsuelo desde la superficie hasta más de 2 km; significativamente mucho más profundo que los 300 m que se pueden alcanzar con los métodos geofísicos tradicionales, los cuales han constituido durante muchos años la columna vertebral de la exploración geofísica. Simulation tools are preferred for evaluating complex systems due to its ability to mimic reality and quickly evaluate many different what-if scenarios and find global solutions. A simulation model is capable of representing variable and dynamic disturbances that are typically encountered in day-to-day operations; this is where spreadsheet models or linear programs fall short because they cannot account for the dynamic behavior and relationships. The simulation model used for this work was developed by Xstrata-Nickel (previously Falconbridge). The simulation tool is very flexible and can be used to simulate different mining and development methods. The scope of the modeling included production mining, geology, equipment fleets, equipment maintenance and random failures, manpower, shift schedules, and cycle activity times. A case overview of the 170 Orebody will be presented along with the challenges associated with data collection for the model inputs. Results and lessons learned will also be discussed.

Surface mining operations typically require run-of-mine material to be sized for further processing. In-pit crushing facilities serve this need, as stationary, semi-mobile or fully mobile units. Although in particular fully mobile crushing facilities have been in use for over half of a century, other surface mining techniques have typically been implemented. However, with increasing operating costs in truck and shovel operations, and other economic considerations, mobile crushing plants are increasingly a viable option. The operational and economical parameters in relation to the optimal surface mining equipment selection will be reviewed. The role of the mobile crushing technology within the continuous vs. noncontinuous surface mining operation and basis for mine planning are also discussed. Current applications and respective case studies will be reviewed. Key performance indicators will be presented. These performance parameters can be viewed as a tool to aid in the equipment selection process. The future direction for further research and development in mobile crushing facilities will also be presented.

El Batolito de la Cordillera Oriental, comprende una diversidad de rocas intrusivas, las cuales varían composicionalmente desde gabros a granitos alcalinos de la serie calcoalcalina. Durante su emplazamiento han sufrido procesos de fraccionación y contaminación en la corteza, dando como resultado granitos metaluminosos y peraluminosos. Los trabajos realizados por el INGEMMET, han permitido la agrupación de las diferentes rocas en unidades y súper unidades, conllevando a determinar tanto las características petrogenéticas, como las relaciones con las mineralizaciones polimetálicas y de elementos estratégicos para cada unidad.
