The instrumentation, monitoring, and prediction of a major slope failure at the Chuquicamata mine are described. In December 1967, pre-existing tension cracks on the south end of the east wall of the Chquicamata mine began to open. Various forms of instrumentation were installed for continuous monitoring. These systems included tension crack stakes, crack extensometers, linear extensometers, tape and transit lines, sliding wire contacts, and a seismograph. From the information obtained, the failure date was accurately predicted some five weeks before failure, enabling the mine to reroute truck and rail access; hence, causing a minimal mine shutdown of two and one-half days and preventing any injuries to persons or damage to equipment. The shape and form of the sliding mass are analyzed, as are the possible modes of failure.

Over the years, Coal Beneficiation at Tata Steel - West Bokaro has seen varied changes. With increasing R.O.M throughputs & lowering of the concentrate ash, Fine Coal Beneficiation process has thrown up myriad challenges. Development of Synthetic Collector was initiated couple of years back with Technical assistance from NLC Nalco India Ltd. Coal from West Bokaro unit was sent to Nalco?s Naperville (US) research lab for developing Tailor made synthetic collector . After comprehensive lab flotation studies, synthetic collector was developed & recommended for plant evaluation. The lab scale results were very promising in terms of improved separation efficiency & yield at similar ash level. The collector sample received from Nalco research laboratory were revalidated at Nalco Kolkata lab and finally at Tata Steel West Bokaro lab, confirming the promising results. (S.E 25-30 % better than HS Diesel) The key factors playing out for this improvement initiative are a) Scope for improvement in Clean Coal Yield at same or lower ash level coupled with improved Selectivity and Separation Efficiency b) Introduction of a Synthetic Collector with a Green Chemistry and subsequent replacement of H S Diesel, which is highly inflammable with a less inflammable & safer product Trial was conducted at plant scale in two phases and comparative performance of the Collector vis-à-vis Diesel was evaluated across the following Coal Seams of Q- SE (Seam VII, VIII, VI, IX and X). The results generated are very promising and the improvements observed are summarized below. ? Separation efficiency improvement by more than 20% observed. ? Flotation Fines yield increase varied from 0.6- 1.5 % on raw coal basis across different seams. ? Consumption pattern is 20-25 % lower than Diesel. Most developing projects face a range of technical and non-technical challenges, and examination of development histories can potentially provide insights into improved approaches to project development. The Kestanelik project in the Canakkale region of Western Turkey was acquired by Chesser Resources Ltd in 2008. Turkey is a significant and growing source of gold production, with sector participation by both domestic and international companies. While the broad ranges of challenges faced by developing projects is well known, there are relatively few case studies in which the range of technical, environmental, social and governance challenges are presented in a single contribution. Recent studies of undeveloped complex orebodies have particularly shown the extent to which environment, social and governance (ESG) complexities contribute to project delays and failures. The Kestanelik project faced a full range of technical and ESG complexities, and provides an illustrative example of the associated challenges. CITATION: Valenta, R, 2018. This paper presents a case study that describes the selection, development, engineering and construction of a process plant for the biological oxidative pre-treatment of a refractory pyrite-arsenopyrite gold ore flotation concentrate. Prefeasibility and feasibility study resource modeling, metallurgical testwork, and environmental and engineering studies are outlined. Options considered for oxidation of the ore, which examine cost, risk, operability, recovery, engineering and environmental aspects are compared, with particular reference to pressure and biological oxidation. The BIOX« biological oxidation process was selected as the preferred oxidation process and the flow sheet for this process is presented. Selection of the BOIX« process resulted in special requirements for the feed preparation circuit, residue treatment and disposal, materials of construction and engineering. Use of a biological process in ore treatment also introduces particular process and engineering risks the management of which are discussed.

The San Miguel Mine is owned by San Miguel Electrical Cooperative, Inc. and operated by Atascosa Mining Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Morrison-Knudsen Company, Inc. This multiseam, single-zone lignite surface mine is located near Jourdanton, Texas, 110 kilometers (68 miles) south of San Antonio. Lignite extracted from four closely-spaced seams is used to fuel the 400-MW San Miguel Power Plant. Recovery depths range from 7 to 37 meters (25 to 120 feet). The mine began stripping operations in the spring of 1980 and now produces approximately 2.5 million tonnes (2.8 million tons) of lignite annually. Atascosa Mining Company is responsible for production, maintenance, engineering, and management services. Production responsibilities include topsoil removal, overburden removal, lignite mining, spoil pile regrading and topsoil replacement, as well as ash disposal and construction and maintenance of water retention and diversion facilities.

"Longwall abutment loads are influenced by several factors, including depth of cover, pillar sizes, panel dimensions, geological setting, mining height, proximity to gob, intersection type, and size of the gob. How does proximity to the gob affect pillar loading and entry condition? Does the gob influence depend on whether the abutment load is a forward, side, or rear loading? Do non-typical bleeder entry systems follow the traditional front and side abutment loading and extent concepts? If not, will an improved understanding of the combined abutment extent warrant a change in pillar design or standing support in bleeder entries?This paper details observations made in the non-typical bleeder entries of a moderate depth longwall panel; specifically, it explores data collected from borehole pressure cells and roof extensometers, observations of the conditions of the entries, and numerical modeling of the bleeder entries during longwall extraction. The primary focus was the extent and magnitude of the abutment loading experienced due to the extraction of the longwall panels. Due to the layout of the longwall panels and bleeder entries, the borehole pressure cells (BPCs) and roof extensometers did not show much change due to the advancing of the first longwall. However, they did show a noticeable increase due to the second longwall advancement, a maximum of about 4 MPa of pressure increase and 5 mm of roof deformation. The observations of the conditions showed little to no change from before the first longwall panel extraction began to when the second longwall panel had been advanced more than 915 meters. Localized pillar spalling was observed on the corners of the pillars closest to the longwall gob as was an increase in water in the entries. In addition to the observations and instrumentation, numerical modeling was performed to validate modeling procedures against the monitoring results and evaluate the bleeder design. ITASCA Consulting Group’s FLAC3D numerical modeling software was used to evaluate the bleeder entries. The results of the models indicated only a minor increase in load during the extraction of the longwall panels. These models showed a much greater increase in stress due to the development of the gateroad and bleeder entries—about 80% development and 20% longwall extraction. The FLAC3D model showed very good correlation between modeled and expected gateroad loading during panel extraction. The front and side abutment extent modeled was very similar to observations from this and previous panels."

INTRODUCTION The small mining company faces the dilemma of how to finance the development of its properties. Many of these small companies don't have the financial resources to pay for development costs from their own funds and frequently they do not even have the financial strength to permit them to borrow the money needed for development. A project financing can sometimes be arranged in such a way as to solve this dilemma. A typical project financing will not provide the answer to the "little guy's" problem because most project financings require that the sponsors of the project provide completion undertakings and sometimes other undertakings. These undertakings are often a prerequisite to obtaining financing, and if the sponsor is not financially strong enough to provide the comfort that the lenders require, then the sponsor will have difficulty obtaining financing no matter what undertakings are offered. However, with a little imagination and the right set of circumstances, a project financing can sometimes provide the solution to the small mining company's problem. The Strathcona Sound Project is unusually suited as a case study because the sponsor, Mineral Resources International Limited,(MRI) was able to arrange a project financing for the development of the project even though the lenders probably would not have been willing to loan a similar amount of money direct to MRI based on the full faith and credit of MRI's balance sheet. The way that MRI was able to arrange this financing makes for an interesting story. THE CASE In early 1974, MRI owned 100% of a small to medium sized zinc - lead - silver massive sulfide deposit (Property) located 475 miles north of the Arctic Circle less than two miles from deep water on Strathcona Sound which is a shipping zone in the Canadian Arctic. The Property was situated at a desolate location except for an Eskimo settlement (Arctic Bay) which was about 20 miles west of the Property. In other words, the project required that complete infrastructure would need to be installed in this far northern location. Independent reserve and feasibility studies (Study) had been completed on the Property which confirmed a total of 6,825,000 tons of reserves classified and summarized as shown below on Table I: [ ] These reserves were based on 229 diamond drill holes totalling 58,909 feet and were established on a cut-off grade of 7% zinc and a minimum mining height of seven feet. The overall mining recovery rate was estimated at not less than 85% and not more than 90%. The feasibility study indicated that it would cost an estimated $45,044,000 to develop an underground mine, a concentrator, a town-site, a power plant, storage facility, loading dock, a tailings disposal area and an airstrip on the Property with an annual capacity of 525,000 tons of ore per year. The construction period was expected to take two years and projected capital costs were broken down as set forth below on Table II:

The Zhilingtou Au-Ag deposit is situated in the eastern part of the complexly deformed and metamorphosed South China Caledonian Fold Belt. It consists of seven orebodies that are almost exclusively hosted by biotite plagioclase gneiss of the Precambrian Chencai Group. They form an apparent en echelon pattern in both cross-section and level plan. Three different ore types, based on mineralization textures, have been recognized within the Zhilingtou lode. These are Au-Ag-rich quartz veins, Au and Ag-bearing silicified rocks and Au-Ag-containing altered rocks with quartz stockworks. The mineralization is principally composed of electrum, argentite, pyrite and minor sphalerite, galena as well as traces of hessite and chalcopyrite plus a gangue assemblage of quartz, rhodonite, sericite and chlorite. Fluid inclusions related to Au-Ag mineralization yield a wide range of homogenization temperatures from 110 to 447¦C, with two distinctive peak values at 250-300¦C and 350-400¦C respectively. S30Si values of quartz veins and silicification from the three stages of mineralization range from -0.1 to -0.4%o. The mineralization at Zhilingtou is interpreted as forming by recirculated meteoric water extracting ore-forming elements from metamorphic rocks due to Mesozoic volcano-magmatic activity.

The complex interaction between multiple seam pillar extraction panels and variable topography can generate unexpected ground control problems. This case study describes stress-related damage in multiple seam workings that resulted in difficult operating conditions and compromised the safety of the support crews. The damage appeared to be caused by horizontal stress but the unexpected location of the damage baffled the authors. A 2D Finite element analysis was conducted of the mine layout and surface topography in an attempt to explain the observed failure. It was discovered that the topography resulted in the rotation of the major stress at the location of the current workings. The stress rotation caused asymmetrical interactions between the workings on the different coal beds, which can explain the unexpected response observed in the mine. Consequently the layout of the next panel was changed by locating the vulnerable entry 30 ft away from its originally planned position. The new location was selected to locate the entry in favorable stress conditions. The change in layout resulted in a significant improvement in conditions when the next panel was mined. At the time of writing this paper, a full panel has been developed using the modified layout without undue ground control problems. The case study demonstrates that numerical models can help engineers to interpret and solve complex multi-seam interaction problems.

Public Law 95-87 enacted by Congress in 1977 and subsequent regulations require coal mine operators to predict the effects of mining on the environment prior to the start of mining. Prediction of the effects of mining on the local groundwater system is a difficult task due to its complex nature and the lack of detailed published information. An investigation of water level fluctuations in five we1 1s positioned over three consecutively mined longwall panels was initiated in conjunction with an intensive subsidence monitoring program. The purpose of this work was to provide detailed information which could be used to predict certain hydrologic effects of longwall mining in the Northern Appalachian Coal Region. The results of this case study indicate that water level fluct- uations in the local ground-water system above longwall panels is associated with subsidence and that the static water level will generally re- establish at or near the pre-mining elevation after mining is completed.

Kidston Gold Mines, located in semi-arid North Queensland, Australia is currently in its closure phase. Highly innovative and comprehensive rehabilitation strategies were employed at the site, including the direct revegetation of the surface of the tailings storage; the construction of a tailings sediment entrapment pond; the construction of a spillway to drain large rainfall events from the surface of the tailings; the construction of store/release covers over the tops of the waste rock dumps; the sheeting with oxide waste rock of the waste rock dump slopes; the partial back-filling of the initial Wises Hill Pit with waste rock and thickened tailings produced from the subsequent Eldridge Pit; the partial flooding of Eldridge Pit following the end of mining; and the construction of wetland systems to treat contaminated tailings and waste rock dump seepage. These closure strategies involved the careful consideration of water management. Specific water management issues included understanding the water balance of the tailings dam; the operation of the tailings dam sediment entrapment pond and spillway; understanding the water balance of the store/release waste rock dump covers; the importance and sustainability of vegetation on the tailings, store/release waste rock dump covers, and on the sheeted waste rock dump slopes; the level and quality of water in the partially flooded Eldridge Pit; and the treatment of contaminated seepage in the constructed wetlands. The seasonal and highly variable rainfall experienced in this semi-arid climate posed a number of challenges for the management of water on the site post-closure. The paper details these challenges and highlights how they were resolved over the period leading up to and following the end of mining.

"Abstract This paper presents a ground improvement implementation case under a raft foundation of a local hospital. The selected ground improvement method is Wet Soil Mixing (WSM) technique. Soil mixing is increasingly applied to environmental applications and ground stabilization in geotechnical projects. In this technique, weak soil is mixed with cementitious slurry to improve the characteristics of the soil. The investigated case is one of the pioneering WSM ground improvement technique implementation cases in Turkey. The soil profile is mainly consisted of low plasticity clay. The effect of ground improvement is verified by a series of laboratory tests and four in-situ pile loading tests. The results of in-situ pile load tests on constructed soilcrete columns showed an acceptable factor of safety for the bearing capacity of the WSM columns. Measured bearing capacities in all four tested columns were nearly 20% higher than calculated values. In addition, a set of samples are obtained from the constructed columns and unconfined compression tests have been conducted. The laboratory test results indicate that the selected cementitious slurry has a sufficient efficiency to form the stabilizing columns.IntroductionIn the construction industry, stabilization of the soft ground by lime or cement stabilization is a widely used technique. In ground improvement systems deep mixing method (DMM) results in the same stabilization in deep portions of the soft soil profile by mixing cementitious slurry by means of mechanical augers. The pioneering cases of modern deep mixing application can be traced back to the year 1970 that was used for the stabilization of marine soils below the water level for the construction of harbor structures (Terashi et al., 1979). Nowadays, DMM is shown to be a proper and efficient method for the foundation of the structures and embankments on land. Some recent studies also reported that reasonable settlement reduction range in the stabilized soils under the foundation of structures (Archeewa et al., 2011). In addition to reduction of the structural settlement under service loads, deep mixing methods are also utilized when there is a concern with contaminated soil and groundwater or groundwater control (Andromalos and Bahner, 2003).Although, the DMM is shown to be a successful method in numerous studies for improvement of a wide range of soil types such as organics, fine-grained, and coarse grained material, it has some limitations (Archeewa et al. 2011, Jameson et al. 2010, Jelisic and Leppanen 2004, Lambrechts and Roy 1997, Meyersohn 2007, Miki and Nozu 2004, Olsson et al. 2008, O’Rourke and McGinn 2004, Stewart et al. 2004, Yang et al. 2011). High soil density and stiffness could damage deep mixing rigs. Engineering properties of the soilcrete columns changes based on the soil type, water content and other factors such as organic content of the available soil profile, so properties of the generated soilcrete should be verified by a set of rigorous testing procedures (Puppala et al. 2004).Based on the general classifications presented in the ground improvement literature, deep soil mixing method is divided into two main types of dry or wet mixing methods. In the dry and mixing methods compressed air and water are utilized as the binder transporter medium respectively (Moseley and Krisch, 2004). In addition, DMM methods can be categorized based on the employed mixing methods during the construction. In this study, the main aim is to present and elaborate on the selected method is known as Wet Speed Soil Mixing (WSSM)."

Measurements and analyses were conducted of whole-body vibration aboard seven commercially available passenger and/or recreational vehicles: sedan; sport-utility vehicle (SUV); pickup truck; moving truck; motorcycle; all-terrain vehicle (ATV); and boat. The purpose of the testing was to measure and assess whole-body vibration exposure in a range of typical vehicle environments in order to gain understanding of typical exposure levels characteristic of activities of daily living. Vehicle models tested (and model year) were: Ford Taurus (1995); Jeep Cherokee Sport (2000); Toyota Tundra SR5 (2002); Ford F-350 (1997); Harley-Davidson Electra Glide Classic (2004); Yamaha Kodiak 400 4x4; and Steiger Craft Model 21 Montauk. All vehicles were tested with their standard factory-installed seats and were operated under a range of normal operating conditions and speeds typical of intended vehicle use. Methods The measurement, processing, analysis, and exposure assessment methods follow the guidance of generally accepted, national and international consensus standards relevant to the evaluation of whole-body vibration, including ISO 2631-1 [1] and ANSI S3.18 [2]. Seats were instrumented with low-mass triaxial accelerometers mounted in seat pads. Accelerometers used in the test are specified to have flat frequency response over the frequency range of 0.5 to 80 Hz, and all accelerometers were recently calibrated traceable to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Seat pads were installed following guidance in the relevant standards [1, 2], with sensitive axes of the accelerometers following the standard coordinate system with respect to the seated occupant. (The x-axis represents fore-aft motion; the y-axis represents side-to-side motion; and the z-axis represents vertical motion with respect to the occupant.) Vibration data processing and analysis, including filtering, sampling, frequency-weighting, averaging, summation, and determination of basic and additional metrics followed procedures in the relevant standards [1, 2]. Digitized time series data were acquired and stored using a PC-based data acquisition system. Whole-body vibration exposure analyses were conducted via post-processing. During data processing, recorded periods of seat acceleration that were identified and verified as resulting from occupant-induced motion rather than vehicle motion were excluded prior to exposure analysis. "The pitting susceptibility of aluminium metal matrix composites reinforced with garnet particles has been examined using static weight loss method by exposing the metal matrix composites (MMC) specimens to the action of IN HCI acid at laboratory temperature for different time intervals. It was found that the corrosion rate decreased with increase in weight percentage of reinforcement while the corrosion rate was a function of the matrix alloy but not of the reinforcement material. Further, it was found that the rate of corrosion was dependent on the interface region formed between the reinforcement and the matrix. A comparison of the base matrix with the corresponding composite when subjected to heat treatment for varying periods of 4, 8, and 12 hours respectively was made. The comparison revealed that corrosion resistance of the composite increased with the duration of heat treatment and this has established a considerable improvement in corrosion resistance of the composite when compared with the base matrix.IntroductionMetal matrix composites (MMCs) offer designers many added benefits, as they are particularly suited for applications requiring good strength at high temperature, good structural rigidity, dimensional stability, and light weight [1-5]. The trend is towards safe usage of the MMC parts in the automobile engine, which work particularly at high temperature and pressure environments [6-7]. Particles reinforced MMCs have been most popular over the last two decades. Among the MMCs, the most popular families are represented by aluminium reinforced with ceramic particles. Although the incorporation of the second phase into a matrix material can enhance the physical and mechanical properties of the base metal, it could also significantly change the corrosion behavior."

The case study has identified and characterised additional subsidence arising from longwall mining above or under existing longwall goaf. It suggests that the magnitude, mechanisms and prediction methods for such additional subsidence are different between the two mining configurations. This paper presents a proposed method to predict maximum vertical subsidence due to longwall mining under existing longwall goaf. It suggests that, unless different results from further new cases become available, the findings presented in this article, including the aforementioned prediction method, be applicable to the majority of sites in New South Wales, where multi-seam longwall mining is to take place. This article also presents an important concept of 'overburden modification' due to multi-seam mining. A causal relationship between the above-mentioned additional subsidence and 'overburden modification' has been identified as a result of the case studies. Further investigations into the physical processes that cause such overburden modification will be fundamental to the understanding and management of multi-seam subsidence.

Conventional stoping in hard rock mining is largely considered an operational environment. This paper suggests that stoping falls within the realm of a project management environment typified by uncertainty, variation, and large numbers of interdependencies. Stoping was then equated to a micro-project with many simultaneous activities that had to be executed accurately using finite resources within limited shift durations in order to reach specific goals. Critical chain project management (CCPM) principles were applied to the stoping activities, and the results showed that the number of blasts per panel can be significantly increased by successfully moving the distribution of work as close as possible to the start of shift. Critical chain principles also assisted in facilitating re-focusing and teamwork among stoping crews as well as between day- and night-shift crews. The main recorded success was in managing inherent protective capacities/local contingencies/fat/buffers that are found in all projects. The impact on mine health and safety (MHS) was significant as individual operators and crews became convinced that they could perform all stoping tasks (activities) without compromising accuracy or speed.

"Sunrise Dam Gold Mine (SDGM) is located 820 km from Perth, 220 km from Kalgoorlie—Boulder and 55 km south of Laverton in Western Australia. The SDGM main pit had successfully operated since 1997 and was due to be completed during 2012. An opportunity existed to extract the high-grade crown pillar – 600 kt @ 7 g/t for 135 koz by either open pit or underground methods.The crown pillar was the 60 m (vertically) thick remaining part of the high-grade Cosmo orebody between the top of the paste filled underground mine stopes and the planned base of the final open pit shell.There were two major difficulties being considered when choosing the underground or open pit options:a major wall failure in the upper section of the main pit wall directly above the crown pillar restricting access from the base of the open pit to the top of the crown pillarimpact of a high rainfall event while the crown pillar was being mined from either surface or underground resulting in flooding of the underground mine workings.This paper will discuss the following issues:the process to identify and evaluate the risks in both options using knowledge based modelling software; this technique allowed the evaluation of a complex set of assumptions to arrive at the preferred optionremediation of the Watu failurethe selection of the preferred option and the challenges encountered before, during and after the extraction of the crown pillarthe planning and geotechnical work to ensure the safe extraction of the crown pillarsuccessful outcomes transitioning from open pit operation to a solely underground operation.Citation:Robeson, A, Cowan, M and Brockman, M, 2016. This case study presents the effectiveness of underground rock blasting to facilitate the trench cut in the hard rock layer using a conventional trench cutter for the construction of a diaphragm wall. Rock blastings are pre-performed up to the scheduled depth and then the fragmented rocks can be easily cut using a conventional trench cutter. Two trial underground rock blastings have been performed and the effectiveness of pre-blasting is presented in terms of a cutting rate, a loss of cutter heads and an amount of overbreak. Based on the results obtained from the trial underground rock blastings, the following conclusions can be appropriate: 1) A pre-blasting of hard rock layer located in depth can help to overcome the limitation of the trench cut using a conventional trench cutter. If the hard rock layer is fragmented after blasting, the fragmented rocks can be easily cut using a conventional trench cutter, 2) The speed of cutting works was accelerated and the loss of cutter heads was significantly reduced in the sections where the blastings were applied prior to cutting. 3) The amount of overbreak, expressed in terms of the amount of poured concrete, can be reduced to some extent. However, the location of blast holes in the trench can also contribute to the amount of overbreak. The closer the location of blast holes to the edge of the trench, the more extensive fractured and cracked zone can be formed on the face of the trench. This can increase the amount of overbreak if the trench is left empty for a while.

"Abstract Uncertain strength, deformation and flow properties in dry deep mixing columns often lead to conservative choices concerning design values where the design is regularly complemented with a surcharge fill. The surcharge not only leads to increased cost but also to logistical problems where the surcharge is a physical obstacle. The deformation properties of a ground improvement were studied by means of two small embankment load tests. The settlement measurements were also used in FEM analyses, where the effect of surcharge on creep settlements was investigated. Based on the results, the effects of the surcharge were considered negligible and could safely be ignored. The project is an example how the contractor can use a field test as an effective design approach.IntroductionGround improvement of soft soils with dry deep mixing columns, or lime-cement columns, is often combined with a surcharge fill. The main reason for using a surcharge is to force the primary settlement and some of the secondary settlement that would have occurred under the final embankment height alone, to take place under the surcharge loading. Another reason is to level out uneven settlements. Strength and deformation properties in improved soil cannot be sufficiently assessed in advance, before columns have been tested on-site, and this uncertainty often lead to conservative choices concerning design values. In order to compensate for a slow forecasted consolidation process, the design is regularly complemented with a surcharge. The surcharge not only leads to increased cost but also to logistical problems where the surcharge is a physical obstacle.Extensive research undertaken by Åhnberg (2006, 2007) shows, by means of triaxial and oedometer tests, that cementation processes and a load acting on the columns during hardening, makes the improved soil to behave as a heavily over-consolidated soil due to an increase in quasi pre-consolidation pressure. The effects of using a surcharge on the time for consolidation and creep properties are thus probably small, since the stress level does not normally exceed this quasi pre-consolidation pressure. A study presented by Venda Oliveira et al. (2013) shows that the stress level within small ranges has limited effect on the creep properties.This paper presents a case study where the deformation properties of a ground improvement using dry deep mixing columns was investigated by load tests on two small test embankments. The tests were performed at the Interchange Värtan project site, which is part of the Norra länken infrastructure project in Stockholm. The tests were not performed as a research project but simple load tests performed by the contractor with the purpose of rationalizing the design delivered by the client. One purpose of the load tests was to assess the deformations when the columns are loaded temporarily by overlaying concrete works. Another purpose was to provide some input data to a study of the effects of using surcharge on creep settlements. The analysis was conducted as finite element modeling using the commercial code PLAXIS, where creep settlements can be simulated using the built-in Soft Soil Creep model."
