A medição de Planicidade sem contato (contactless) para Laminadores a Frio é efetuada com o sistema conhecido como SIFLAT. Os sensores utilizam tecnologia eddy current como medição precisa de amplitude entre o sensor e a chapa na qual será medida a planicidade. Os resultados convertido para valores de planicidade são de alta qualidade e precisão na mediação que serão posteriormente enviadas ao sistema de controle de planicidade. Este sistema é aplicado em laminadores de chapas a frio e linha de processo.

Dentro da caracterização tecnológica do minério de ferro, percebe-se o aumento da realização de ensaios de moagem em escala de laboratório, em função do empobrecimento das principais jazidas de minério de ferro e consequentemente redução do grau de liberação do quartzo. Esse é o principal mineral de ganga do minério de ferro, e para sua liberação é necessário moagem. O Centro de Pesquisas Tecnológicas da Vale tem como procedimento a execução de ensaios exploratórios de moagem para a definição do tempo necessário partindo de um top size de 2 mm até obter um produto com determinado % retido em 0,15mm, a malha de controle da moagem primária. A definição desse tempo era realizado por tentativa e erro, ou seja, fazia-se uma moagem em um tempo inicial, e posteriormente variava-se o mesmo até alcançar a granulometria desejada no produto moído. Este processo torna a atividade morosa, sendo necessário a realização em média de até 5 ensaios para a definição do tempo de moagem. De uma forma simples aplicando a equação de Donda-Rosa utilizando o tempo de moagem, a determinação do tempo de moagem para chegar à granulometria desejada é normalmente atingida na segunda moagem. Os resultados obtidos até o momento são promissores, mostrando ser possível a utilização dessa equação para prever o tempo de moagem. Com isto, obteve-se um ganho de produtividade uma vez que a quantidade média de ensaios exploratórios necessária reduziu-se de quatro para no máximo dois.

Com a expansão da produção de minério de ferro no quadrilátero ferrífero em Minas Gerais, a litologia e o perfil de qualidade dos minérios foram alterados significativamente nos últimos anos, para o minério recebido na Ternium Brasil notadamente a partir do segundo semestre de 2014, gerando forte impacto sobre os processos Sinterização e Altos Fornos. Houve uma redução da participação de minérios hematíticos e uma elevação de minérios itabiríticos. Como conseqüência, houve uma elevação significativa dos teores de sílica, fósforo e alumina no sinter feed e minério granulado. Nesse contexto, surgiu a necessidade de tornar a especificação do sínter produto mais abrangente qualitativamente e mais restritiva do ponto de vista quantitativo, com o objetivo de melhorar a performance e estabilidade dos Altos Fornos, frente ao novo perfil de qualidade dos minérios de ferro.

O sistema de flotação de minério de ferro consagrado no Brasil desde 1977 é a flotação catiônica reversa, na qual deprimem-se os minerais-minério de ferro e flota-se a ganga silicática. Em termos de reagentes, o amido é utilizado como depressor de minerais de ferro e a amina como coletor de quartzo e espumante. Teoricamente, espera-se que o aumento da dosagem de amina eleve a flotabilidade do quartzo. Entretanto, a realidade industrial tem mostrado um comportamento contrário. Este fato tem sido explicado pela formação de clatratos - termo utilizado para denominar o composto molecular formado pela adesão das moléculas de amina no interior das moléculas de amido, que resulta na depressão do quartzo. Em laboratório, a avaliação da flotabilidade de minerais puros pode ser feita através de ensaios de microflotação em tubo de Hallimond modificado. O objetivo do presente trabalho é verificar a flotabilidade do quartzo utilizando-se diferentes dosagens de amina e amido. Para isso, ensaios de microflotação em tubo de Hallimond modificado foram realizados em faixa de pH entre 6 e 12. Identificou-se a dosagem de reagentes que favoreceu a formação dos clatratos.

Durante la laminación de barras y alambrones para construcción civil; perfiles y ángulos estructurales y barras redondas y hexagonales de aceros de corte libre puede presentarse la apertura de la punta o la cola y el estallido central, con la consiguiente parada y caída de la productividad, y pérdida de rendimiento metálico. En este trabajo se analizan las diversas causas que confluyen para que este problema ocurra. Se analiza la influencia de posibles defectos en las palanquillas, las características del corte de las mismas y otros problemas de calidad. Se revisa el rol del precalentamiento previo a la laminación, la refrigeración de los cilindros, el diseño de pasadas y la respuesta del material en función de su ductilidad. Se presentan diversos casos industriales para ilustrar las diferentes razones detrás del problema de la apertura de punta.

Com o aumento da complexidade dos materiais metálicos, duas ou mais fases produto podem nuclear simultaneamente durante uma transformação de fase. A nucleação de novos grãos pode ocorrer por saturação de sítios ou por taxa constante. Neste contexto, esse trabalho busca estudar a influência da transformação simultânea com nucleação por taxa constante de duas fases produto na cinética, na microestrutura e na distribuição do tamanho de grão em uma região tridimensional. A efeito de comparação, também foi realizado o estudo de reações em que uma fase nucleia por saturação de sítios e a outra fase, por taxa constante e ambas iniciam sua transformação no instante inicial, de forma simultânea. Os resultados obtidos computacionalmente foram comparados às equações analíticas, apresentando ótima concordância entre os modelos. Foi observado que parâmetros microestruturais como tamanho médio de grãos e morfologia das interfaces podem auxiliar o pesquisador a identificar o tipo de nucleação, seja por saturação de sítios, seja por taxa constante.

Em janeiro de 2016 a Russula foi contratada pela Dojran Steel (Sidenor) para a reformulação de sua planta de Nikolic / Macedônia. O fornecimento incluiu um novo laminador de barras e perfis com capacidade para atingir 350.000 toneladas por ano, composto de equipamento mecânico, sistema de automação, bem como todo o suporte técnico necessário para a Dojran Steel expandir sua antiga gama de produtos e melhorar sua qualidade de produto acabado. Ao final da reformulação, executada em várias fases, o novo laminador adquiriu capacidade para produzir toda gama de produtos desejada: - Redondos de 8 a 40 mm, - Barras chatas de 16 x 4 a 140 x 20mm, - Quadrados de 8 a 40 mm, - Cantoneiras de abas iguais de 20 x 20 x 2,5 a 120 x 120 x 12mm,- Cantoneiras de abas desiguais de 30 x 20 x 3 a 120 x 80 x 10,- Perfil U (UPN) com altura de 30 a 140 mm,- Perfil I (IPE) de 80 a 120 mm e - Perfil T de 20 a 50 mm.

Most cyclic plasticity models used in multiaxial fatigue life predictions are based on a concept of a yield surface, which divides the elastic and plastic domains. Plastic straining occurs when the stress state reaches the surface and tries to move outward. Subsequent plastic straining causes the stress state to remain on the yield surface, which will translate to prevent the stress point from moving outside it according to a kinematic hardening rule that models the Bauschinger effect. The accurate modeling of the yield surface shape is fundamental to predict stress-strain relations. In this work, the main yield surface equations for isotropic materials are compared. Even though most materials can be modeled using Mises and Tresca surfaces, other need to consider the effect on the yield strength of the hydrostatic stress or the normal stress acting on a critical plane. It is shown that pressure-sensitive models originally devised for concrete can be applied to predict yielding in some materials, and even fatigue life for metallic structures with short cracks.

The deployment of autonomous haulage system causes several impacts in mining production chain, being necessary an appropriate change management policy, crucial to observe and gather all the benefits brought by the technology. The change management is also necessary to guarantee the adaptability of the organization in the long term. This paper briefly presents the technology deployed in the autonomous trucks at Vale's iron ore Brucutu mine, the changes that the operation team faces in the adoption of autonomous technology and the required training path to develop new procedures to deal with the sensitivity of the autonomous haulage system, besides the new operational dynamics from a process point of view, with safer, more consistent and more productive operations.

The use of two-dimensional shape parameters to characterize abrasive particles is a possible approach to express their angularity. Nonetheless, in sliding abrasion, especially in pin abrasion testing, coated papers structure plays an important role and even its damage during the wear process should not be neglected. This manuscript discuss the limitations of two-dimensional shape descriptors in distinguishing wear caused by relatively hard particles, indicating that the wear data obtained in sliding abrasion tests are unable to distinguish different types of coated papers used when only the two-dimensional particle projection is considered for shape characterization.

The evaluation of the effect of the addition of carbon nanotubes (NTCs) directly to a etheramine on the flotation recovery of the quartz at pH 10.5 was carried out by means of microflotation tests in Hallimond tube. The quartz flotation was evaluated using 0.1% (w/v) etheramine solution with different percentages of carboxylic functionalized NTCs. The increase in the percentage of functionalized NTCs increased the flotation recovery to a maximum and from this it was observed a reduction of the recovery of the mineral. Pure etheramine and etheramine with the NTCs were characterized by FTIR spectroscopy and thermal analysis. FTIR spectra of both pure etheramine and etheramine with NTCs clearly showed peaks with the same wavelengths and diagnostics of the cation etheramine and acetate anion. Thermogravimetry indicated that the etheramine + NTCs-COOH mixture lost approximately the same weight percentage over a larger temperature range. In addition, the interaction of the nanotubes with the etheramine caused them to decompose at a lower temperature.

In Potiguar West, in the regions of Vale do Açú, Mossoró, and Chapada do Apodi there are limestone outcrops of about 20 thousand square kilometers (with a thickness ranging from 50 to 400 meters). Limestone is an essential raw material for the manufacture of agricultural products and especially for construction. The rock serves for various productions, among them is used for the production of cement, lime, fertilizers, even ornamental rocks. Thus highlighting the mineral potential in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, as well as its use in the production of various products.

When austenite is deformed above the Ae3 temperature, partial amount of it transforms dynamically into ferrite by a displacive mechanism. After unloading, it retransforms back into the stable austenite by a diffusional process. This influences the rolling load which decreases under isothermal condition or does not increase with decreasing temperature as rapidly as expected under cooling. Plate rolling simulations under isothermal and continuous cooling conditions were carried out on a 0.09 wt.% Nb X-70 steel. Pass strains of 0.2 were employed together with interpass times of 10 s, and 30 s for the cooling conditions and 0.3 with interval of 10 s at 900 °C for the isothermal experiments; strain rate of 1 s-1 was used during the simulations. The mean-flow-stress (MFS`s) behavior of both conditions indicates that dynamic transformation and dynamic recrystallization were taking place during straining. The critical strains for the initiation of dynamic transformation fell around 0.06 while the critical strain for DRX was 0.12. It has been shown that ferrite is formed due to the applied deformation of roughing passes and increases its volume fraction throughout the finishing rolling stage. Under cooling conditions, the ferrite formation is also favored as the temperature approaches the Ae3 line. Such ferrite forms when the driving force for dynamic transformation is higher than the total free energy barrier preventing its formation. This obstacle consists of the free energy difference between austenite and ferrite as well as the lattice dilatation work and shear accommodation work. The addition of Nb retards the retransformation of the ferrite into austenite. Moreover, holding times after rolling increases the amount of austenite available for microstructure control on subsequent stages. For lubrication of open gear drives applied in rotary furnaces, often gear greases are used as well as for lubrication of gear boxes in difficult sealing conditions. The selection of the gear grease influences strongly the wear behavior. Investigations with flow greases NLGI 00 were made in a back-to-back test rig determining the weight loss due to wear acc. to the standardised procedure ISO 14635 part 3. Different influences like base oil viscosity, thickener type and additional solid lubricant type were analysed. Only the type and amount of solid lubricant shows a significant influence on the weight loss due to wear. Finally, a linear wear coefficient clT according to the calculation method of the wear amount according to Plewe is derived and can be used to transfer the test results to any gears in practice.

The environmental concern is creating pressure for the substitution of high energy consumption materials for natural and sustainable ones. Compared to synthetic fibers, natural fibers have shown advantages in technical aspects such as flexibility and toughness. So there is a growing worldwide interest in the use of these fibers. PALF extracted from pineapple leaves, presents some significant characteristic, but until now only few studies on PALF were performed. This work aims to make the analysis of the tensile strength of polyester composites reinforced with PALF. The fibers were incorporated into the polyester matrix with volume fraction from 0 to 30%. After fracture the specimens were analyzed by a SEM (scanning electron microscope).

CSN Mineração S.A. is the second largest exporter of iron ore in Brazil and is among the five most competitive in the market. Casa de Pedra currently has an approximate production capacity of 30 million tons per year. The fleets of small trucks 6x4 and 8x4 models are responsible for the ore movement, traveling an average distance of 10 km between origin and destination. 116 trucks of this size are used in CSN Mineração for the handling of products. Every month this fleet consumes an average of 550,000 liters of fuel. The objective of the work is to do a fuel consumption analysis by truck through the embedded telemetry system. The reports generated through this system provide the specific consumption of each equipment and also the specific consumption of each Driver. As reports are generated it is possible to assess which equipment had a higher specific consumption and, in this case, the respective trucks with greater consumption are directed to the Maintenance team for analysis and action in the event that a problem is identified in the equipment. At the same time, the analysis of the drivers who had the highest specific consumption and conducted a practical and theoretical training, addressing the techniques for a safer and therefore economical direction, is carried out. In 2019, the economy of fuel consumption type S10 was 204 thousand liters, which represents 9% of all consumption foreseen for the period.

In the context of changing culture, the society is increasingly looking for environmentally friendly materials, the natural fibers appear as an option to substitute the synthetic. Among these natural fibers, the PALF fiber may be considered an option, but there is limited information about the flexural strength of epoxy composites incorporated with PALF fibers. Therefore, the objective of this work was to investigate the mechanical properties in bending tests of epoxy composites incorporated with up to 30% in volume of PALF fibers. The results showed that the PALF fiber increase the flexural strength of polymer composites.

In the Tubarão Pelletizing Plants, anthracite is used as solid fuel, which has fixed carbon content of 72%. This paper will present the pilot scale results and industrial scale tests of an alternative fuel to anthracite, named Blast Furnace Dust. All the work was developed using samples from Arcelor Mittal Tubarão, due to it has a large source of production and is near to Vale/SA, which reduces significantly the cost for the material’s transportation. There was an impact on the variability in fixed carbon results of the slurry, mainly at the beginning of the test, reaching very high levels and put on risk the pellets physical’s quality. This variation can be explained by some operational disturbances and, mainly, by the low predictability of Blast Furnace Dust quality and lack of an adequate system for material preparation and dosage.

In 2005, with the significant reduction of iron content in the “Quadrilátero Ferrífero” reserves, Vale began the study of alternatives for the tailings disposal in other structures, that are not tailings dams. In 2011, after bench-scale and pilot-scale tests, it was defined to implement the project "Alternative methods for tailings disposal", including the construction of experimental drainage piles to get mineral and geotechnical process parameters for future projects. The result of this study shows that it is technically possible to replace traditional tailings disposal (dams), to dry stacking, with the proportion up to 20% of ultrafine tailings in the total tailings composition, however, this study is in evolution and the scale of the project / pile is being gradually increased to guarantee a good performance for the mineral and geotechnical process.

Moatize Coal Mine is located in Tete Province, in centre of Mozambique. The deposit contains Gondwana allochthonous coals, and has a large amount of mudstone and siltstone banding. Phosphorus levels in the coal can be high which impacts the use of the coals in steel making where phosphorus is considered a contaminant. The Chipanga seam in the Moatize deposit shows considerable variability, vertically within the seam and laterally across the deposit. The data available from the exploration work indicates that the phosphorus is predominantly present as Apatite but the Crandallite minerals also are significant. The concentration of phosphorus varies with coal particle density with the highest phosphorus levels found for the mid density coal which also shows the highest likely levels of apatite or fluorapatite. Crandallite minerals show higher potential concentrations in the Lower density coal..
