"Inertia vibration crusher is a kind of vibration equipment which crushes ore by vibration. When the inertia vibration crusher works, ore between the two moving jaws is subjected to the high frequency contact force, which is produced by the two moving jaws with high frequency synchronous reciprocating motion. The synchronous motion of the two moving jaws depends on the self-synchronous feature of the inertia vibration crusher. To study the self-synchronous feature of the equipment, the dynamic model was established, in which relative parameters were taken into consideration. The kinematic coupling relations of the assemblies are discussed, and appropriate calculation method is chosen to solve the vibrating differential equation. Whether the two vibration exciter can realize synchronous operation depends on the ability of the vibration system's capture moment. Results show that though the two rotors’ motors and damping coefficients are different, and two jaws’ damping and stiffness coefficients are also different, as angular velocities of the two unbalanced rotors reach a certain value, the vibrating system can be stable. Their angular velocities tend to be equal, and the swings of the two moving jaws can be the same. The horizontal vibration and swing of the frame are large in a few seconds after starting the machine. When the system runs stably, the horizontal vibration and swing vanish, and the vertical vibration is stable. The study and its results can provide reference for the optimization design and parameter setting of inertia vibration crusher and related vibratory equipments.INTRODUCTIONMaterials can be easily broken by using the inertia force of the vibration exciter, which can effectively realize the selective crushing, reducing excessive combinations and the energy consumption, as introduced by Zhang in 2005. The initial micro crack between crystals in the material increases and new cracks can be manufactured because of the high frequency impact and the extrusion of the vibration crusher, so vibration crushing equipment can make it possible for any high strength brittle material to be broken theoretically. Inertia cone crusher and inertia vibration crusher have been successfully used in the treatment of metallurgical slag and construction waste, and it verifies the efficiency of vibration crushing."

In this study, the fine coal waste subjected to the experiments is taken from the waste stockpile of Soma Coal Plant. The possibilities of its evaluation and the production of clean coal were investigated. For this purpose, Reichert Coal Spiral and Shaking Table are used. The minus 1 mm coal waste includes 60.43% ash and 50% minus 38 micron material by weight. The microscopic observations of the screen fractions were shown that the clay minerals are in fine sizes and the coarser size fractions contain silica and carbonate minerals as ash forming materials. The tests were conducted after desliming. The commercial grade clean coal product containing 29-35% ash with a calorific value of 3800-4200 kcal/kg (15.91-17.58 MJ/kg) was obtained by gravity methods.

The amount of impurities to be processed in a copper smelting process has increased for recent years because of an increase in the electronic scrap amount. It has been found that Sb and Ni effect on the operation of our copper electrorefining process. It is found that the current efficiency of the copper electrorefining tended to be decreased as the Ni concentration in the electrolyte increased. The passivation of the process seemed to be more related to SO4 concentration in the electrolyte rather than the Ni concentration in it. The current efficiency decreased when the Sb content in the anode was high. A high Sb content in the anode caused easy passivation by forming a gel-like film in the slime layer. We have developed a method to for see the anode passivation in a short time while generating a slime layer. We confirmed the tendency of passivation through the experiment of changing Pb content in anode. Passivation was easily occur with an increase in Pb content in the anode. The amount of slime increased as the Pb content in the anode increased. This suggests that passivation was facilitated because liquid diffusion near the anode was inhibited. INTRODUCTION The amount of impurities to be processed in copper smelting has been growing in recent years because the amount of electronic scrap has increased. Figure 1 shows that the contents of Sb and Ni in copper anodes have increased since 2007.High Sb and Ni contents in the copper anode decreased the current efficiency of the process and made the quality of copper cathode poor because of the anode passivation and the formation of floating slime in the electrolyte during electrorefining. If these influences of impurities are suppressed, it would be possible to make copper electro-refining current density higher and to process much amount of electronic scrap. We examined the components of our copper electro-refining process like anode composition, slime properties and electrolyte composition, and investigated the mechanism by which Sb and Ni affect passivation and current efficiency. The electrolytic tan/chouse at CCR was recognized by management as lagging behind modem refineries in terms of productivity, energy efficiency and controls. The operation was also burdened by high maintenance costs of cells, floors and electrolyte recirculation systems. A bench marking program was started in 1986 to evaluate processes and other technology by visiting major copper refineries in North America, Europe and Japan. The basic principles necessary to optimize the operation were defined, and a program called CCR 2000 was prepared for approval of the necessary capital investments. This paper describes the results obtained to date and outlines the remaining work to complete the modernization program, in particular, the control of electrolytes, the elimination of the Baltimore groove and studies to modernize the stripping operation or adopt permanent cathode technology.

This paper presents a study conducted to assess sillmat behaviour during undercut mining and to provide a comprehensive understanding of the effects of arching and sillmat thickness on stability. The design study investigated the effects of such parameters as stope width and height, closure strains, orebody geometry and inclination, wall roughness, fill properties and cure time on the stability of cemented sillmat during undercut mining. Arching effects have been quantified based on centrifuge modeling studies for the different mining conditions. Observations have indicated that the degree of arching is a function of stope geometry, wall roughness, fill cohesion, and wall closure. Arching effects increased with decreasing stope width, increasing backfill cohesion and frictional resistance, increasing wall roughness and with wall closure.

"The influence of flux addition on the structure and properties of pellets produced from low silica specularite with peat moss and bentonite as binders was investigated. Specific pellets basicities in the range of 0.4 to 3.2 were obtained by the addition of limestone or a combination of dolomite and limestone as flux. A t basicities < 1.6, the bonding in the pellets was provided by a glassy silicate phase. At basicities =1.6, calcium ferrites were the predominant bonding phase. When dolomite was added as a flux, presence of magnesia-ferrite was noted. The reduction behaviour of pellets at different basicities was found to be influenced by the type of flux and binder. The pellet compression strength and swelling characteristics were improved with increased basicity.IntroductionThe properties of iron ore pellets are influenced by the type and nature of the ore or concentrate, additives and their subsequent treatment to produce pellets. The interaction between various constituents of the concentrate and additives, i.e. iron oxides, gangue and fluxes etc. result in the formation of various mineralogical phases which affect the degree and nature of bonding achieved in the pellet and the structure and distribution of pores. The pellet properties such as pellet strength and reducibility are influenced by the extent and type of bonding achieved between the ore particles. In view of the present emphasis on the production of high quality pellets to meet progressively stringent quality control requirements, it is essential to investigate the effect of additives on the bonding mechanism and properties of the pellets.In the past, the effects of additives on the bonding mechanism of pellets have been investigated. It is important to note that the conditions and parameters to be controlled are typical of a given concentrate/ore. In this paper, the results of the investigation on characterization of fluxed pellets produced from a low silica specularite concentrate are reported.This investigation was also aimed at assessing the suitability of peat moss for use as a binder for the production of low silica fluxed pellets. Peat moss is abundantly available in the vicinity of iron ore mines in Quebec and encouraging results have been obtained du ring the production of high silica acid and fluxed pellets."

The objective of this investigation was to investigate interactions between high-grade copper mattes and Rexal 60DB direct bonded basic bricks. The infiltration and attack of Rexal 60DB bricks by copper matte and continuous converter matte was investigated in laboratory tests at temperatures up to 1300 °C. The brick dissolution and infiltration tests did not show any significant difference between the 70% Cu and the 81% Cu mattes. More metallic copper was visible in the pores in the case of 81% Cu matte. An important mechanism for direct-bonded magnesia-chrome brick destruction is that oxysulphides start to infiltrate the brick, followed by slow oxidation of the matte producing metallic copper and cuprous oxide, which then react with MgO and Cr2O3, primarily attacking the direct bonds of the brick.

"The Candego property is in Boisbuisson and Christie Townships, Quebec, about 13 miles south of Marsoui, a village on the north coast of the Gaspe peninsula, 80 miles east of the railhead at Matane. It was the first producing mine in the peninsula. Production to October 1954, when operations were suspended, totalled 68,497 tons of ore, which yielded concentrates containing 8,706,535 lb. lead, 5,870,272 lb. zinc, 355,526 oz. silver, and about 1,000 oz. gold. The property was acquired by the present company in the summer of 1955.The mine has been developed by seven adits, driven into the west slope of the valley of the Marsoui River. The river here is at an elevation of about 1,600 feet, and is roughly 1,500 feet below the level of the adjacent upland. Adit elevations range from 1,760 to 2,330 feet. Five of them are in one vertical zone, on what was originally believed to be a single vein. Past production has come from Nos. l to 5; the chief present high-grade ore reserves are in No. 7.The author's observations were made in adits Nos. 3 to 6, in several of the old pits, in the surface trenches, and on drill core, at various times between December 1952 and September 1953. Much of the surrounding area has been mapped by Jones (I) and McGerrigle (2) for the Quebec Department of Mines. H. M. Kingsbury served as consulting geologist to the mining company for several years.General GeologyThe Candego veins occur in Lower ( ?) Ordovician sedimentary rocks which form a strip about 15 miles wide along the north coast of the Gaspé peninsula. The series includes limestones, shales, and sandstones, mildly metamorphosed in places. Three miles south of the mine is the north contact of the granitic intrusive, regarded as Lower or Middle Devonian, which underlies the Tabletop Mountains area. This batholith is about 10 miles long, in a north-south direction, and about 4 miles wide. At Mount Albert, about 5 miles west of the Tabletop intrusion, is a group of basic rocks, amphibolites and serpentinized peridotites, thought to have been intruded at the close of the Ordovician."

Mineral processing of rare-earth ore from the Dong Pao deposit, Vietnam, was investigated. The ore contained bastnaesite, (REE (rare earth element)) CO3F, as the valuable mineral and barite, quartz, and fluorite as gangue. To establish a mineral processing flowchart, selective comminution, size classification, and magnetic separation were tested. Bastnaesite shows brittle properties and selective comminution was applied to improve the purity of products. The crushed products were classified by decantation, and the overflow product showed high purity of bastnaesite indicating that bastnaesite becomes fines by crushing and that selective crushing can be used to concentrate the bastnaesite. Magnetic separation for the sink product was carried out and the mag-product showed high recovery rates of bastnaesite, indicating that the combination of size classification and magnetic separation is effective.

"The Uranium deposit of Gunnar Mines, Limited, is on the south shore of Crackingstone peninsula in the Beaverlodge area of northern Saskatchewan.The ore consists of disseminated pitchblende and uranophane in brecciated syenite, and forms a tubular or pipelike body, outcropping at the surface and plunging southward at about 45 degrees for a known length of1,400 feet (see Figure I). The upper portion is being removed by open-pit mining to a depth of 300 feet below adjacent Lake Athabasca. The remainder will require underground mining methods (see Figure 2).The property was staked in July, I 952, and the orebody was subsequently defined by about 70,000 feet of diamond drilling. A 1,250-ton mill was completed in 1955, and production commenced in September of that year with ore from the open-pit operation. The mill is presently being increased to 1,650 tons capacity, and a three-compartment vertical shaft is being sunk to 1,250 feet in preparation for underground mining.GeologyThe mine property is underlain by an assemblage of Precambrian metasediments known locally as paragneiss, granite-gneiss, and syenite. These lie on the southeast limb of a southwest-plunging anticline, strike about north 75 degrees east, and dip southward at about 45 degrees. Para- gneiss outcrops in the northwestern half of the claim group, and again on the islands south of St. Mary's Channel. The granite-gneiss lies conform-ably within the paragneiss and makes up the southeastern part of the property. The syenite forms an irregular, triangular-shaped mass within, and near the footwall of, the granite-gneiss band. Small lenticular bodies of mafic rocks are also present, the former being most prevalent in the paragneiss.The granite-gneiss is coarse to medium-grained, pink to grey, well foliated, and composed of feldspar (65 per cent), quartz (20 per cent), chlorite, and minor mica. The general concordance of its contacts with paragneiss and the absence of intrusive relationships along these, the presence of uniformly oriented inclusions of obviously sedimentary origin within the granite-gneiss, and the variation in colour and texture across the strike all strongly suggest that this member represents a granitized sedimentary rock."

"BEAVERDELL IS IN the Interior Plateau of British Columbia, 25 miles east of Penticton, B.C. In 1897, small but rich silver-bearing veins were found on Wallace Mountain, 2 miles east of Beaverdell. Production from the camp, at first of a modest character, started in 1901 and has never ceased. Over 90 per cent of the values in the ores have been in silver. Remaining values present are in lead, gold, zinc, and cadmium.There have been four principal mines in the camp. A fifth is approaching production. The four mines lie within a northeasterly trending rectangle about 5,000 feet long and 2,000 feet wide, the fifth mine being at the northeast end. From southwest to northeast the mines, with their silver production to Sept. 30, l 955, are: -Wellington Mine - 1,463,948 oz.Sally Mine (includes Rob Roy claim) - 1,930,124 oz.Bell Mine - 3,460,815 oz.Lass Mine - 12,557,956 oz.Other production - 331,252 oz.Total, Beaverdell Camp - 19,744,095 oz.The camp is near the centre of an area geologically mapped in 19 l l by L. Reinecke for the Geological Survey of Canada (1). The rocks of the camp comprise:1. Beaverdell stock of porphyritic quartz monzonite;2. Westkettle batholith of quartz diorite;3. Wallace formation of tuffs and lavas.The Wallace formation borders the east edge of the camp, and has been intruded by the Westkettle batholith. The batholith is the host rock for the orebodies. The Wallace-batholith contact dips gently east. Some of the Beaverdell ores at depth, while in the batholith, are under Wallace formation mapped on the surface above.West of the camp, Reinecke mapped a stock one by one and one-half miles in size, of porphyritic quartz monzonite, which he considered much younger than the Westkettle quartz diorite (I). Recent petrographic work by White and Dolar-Mantuani (3) suggests that in the vicinity of the camp the Westkettle batholith is more quartz monzonite than quartz diorite, and little different in composition from the Beaverdell quartz monzonite. They suggest a consanguinity with the Westkettle batholith."

Many advances have been made concerning the automation of heavy equipment teleoperators such as those found in mining. Complete automation, however, is not achieved yet and the operation of these vehicles still relies on the presence of a human operator. Fortunately, a lot of research has been done in order to improve the performance of these human-machine systems. This paper presents the characteristics of different control modes and input devices used for the control interface of those telemanipulators. We describe the benefits and drawbacks of each particular control interface on the overall system performance, based on a review of research in the field. We conclude with some recommendations and a discussion of future research needs, given the new potential advances offered by virtual environment technology and embedded computing.

"This paper provides a foundation for studying the growth of fractures in presence of other discontinuities and different anisotropies of low permeable hydrocarbon formations and helps to improve the design strategies for multistage fracturing.The multistage fracturing technology has recently been used to exploit low permeable hydrocarbon reservoirs. However, the mechanism of hydraulic fractures interaction and the impact of local heterogeneities on ultimate trajectory of the growing hydraulic fractures are not yet understood in depth. A fully coupled poroelastic Finite Element based model is developed to investigate the mixed mode propagation behaviour of growing hydraulic fractures. This model takes advantage of an explicit representation of the fracture which enables us to take the effects of rock and fluid related parameters into account. Moreover, impact of fracture geometry and leak-off phenomenon is investigated. The refined mesh around the crack provides the added advantage of more detailed stress distribution, pore pressure change and back stress in the vicinity of the fracture and in particular at the fracture tip. The potential deviation propensity of the fractures is evaluated based on the fundamental rule that fractures propagate perpendicular to the direction of the minimum horizontal stress.This study shows that pressurization of transverse hydraulic fractures results in the reorientation of local principal stresses, particularly in vicinity of fracture tips. Variation of flow patterns clearly influences the evolution of shear stress around the fracture tips which will potentially lead to mixed-mode I and II fracturing and consequently, fracture deviation. The presence of local heterogeneities such as preexisting fissures and/or fractures is a main source of such pore pressure induced stress redistribution and reorientation and potential deviation of hydraulic fractures.Most existing models ignore or simplify the effect of pore pressure/stress coupling as well as the fracture geometry and fluid flow within the fracture. Also, the fluid leak-off from the hydraulic fracture into the formation, which is a controlling factor in fracture growth, is often considered using analytical models. Taking advantage of a fully coupled porelastic model along with an explicitly discretized fracture, this study provides a more realistic insight into the complex fracture propagation processes of multistage fracturing operations particularly in presence of reservoir geo-mechanical complexities."

"IntroductionIn 1879, when the Dominion government initiated its controversial program of industrial promotion, iron smelting in Canada was limited to one company producing coke iron on the mainland of Nov a Scotia and three small charcoal blast furnaces in Quebec. There was no steel production. By the eve of the first great war, iron and steel were being produced in very large quantities, the companies active in 1879 had disappeared and new centres of integrated iron and rolled steel production at Hamilton, Sydney and Sault Ste. Marie had come to resemble the industry as we know it today.The most dramatic change was that at Sydney, Nova Scotia, where in the early 1900s, two steelmaking companies established works. The Sydney developments have been explained as the result of resource discovery and technical change. W.J. Donald, in his authoritative account of the Canadian iron and steel industry, observes:""The most rapid growth of the Canadian iron and steel industry has occured since 1897... The remarkable growth has been caused largely by the new conditions of the industry. The discovery and use of Newfoundland ores, together with the availability of Cape Breton coal, has made the Nova Scotia industry not only possible but profitable ... It is a safe conclusion that the Canadian industry would not have been an important one, had it not been for the discovery of the Michipicoten and especially the Wabana (Newfoundland) ores""Donald also argues that metallurgical progress had been necessary to render the ores valuable,""Newfoundland ores ... contain a considerable amount of phosphorus, and were made available for steel-making by recent inventions.""The purpose of this paper is to re-examine Donald&apos;s story. It will be argued that the origin of steel -making at Sydney is somewhat more complicated than Donald has indicated. The difficulty with Newfoundland ore extended beyond its phosphorus content and a resolution required more than the basic open hearth furnace identified by Donald. Moreover metallurgical change was only one of several developments necessary to induce industrial investment at Sydney. Surprisingly, however, the discovery of iron ore in the late nineteenth century does not appear to be part of the explanation."

Mineral concentrators are designed from preliminary geological data, and are therefore subject to geological uncertainty. This uncertainty has a demonstrable impact on the mining lifecycle, and has motivated stochastic strategic mine planning algorithms. The current paper describes how these algorithms may be extended to consider mineral processing operations in conjunction with open-pit mining operations. In particular, the paper describes an effective way to incorporate variable concentrator feed grade into these algorithms, which is the first step toward more elaborate representations of mineral concentrators. The resulting framework will be able to connect geological data to alternate configurations of the downstream resources, hence comparing the benefit of each configuration, and the corresponding capital investments. Sample computations are presented, comparing the NPV and utilization for several different mineral processing capacities.

The curves as originally plotted assumed a constant emanating power of 5 x 10-4 pico curies/litre/sec and show the maximum expected concentrations in the pores in pico curies per litre. Because these concentrations are proportioned to the emanating power, this set of curves can be structured to show the fraction of maximum concentrations possible at various porosities of the rock.10.1.2. Notice that at 10, 20 and 30% porosities a 5-cm sample (hand-sized and drill-sized pieces) has no practical increase in pore concentration. Thus, by measuring the emanating power of hand-sized pieces of ore, the actual radon gas production into any pile of broken ore could be estimated readily."

"Chairman - To start this discussion off, I wonder if Mr. Dave Livingstone or Mr. Jeffrey of Granisle Copper would give a description of the crushing plant at Granisle since it is somewhat different from the usual plant, W. N. Jeffrey - Granisle Copper The main difference between the Granisle crushing plant and many others is the Livingstone method of putting the screens under the crushers instead of above them. This method allows a more compact arrangement and eliminates the heavy superstructure required to take care of the screen vibration when the screens are mounted above the crushers. There is a small surge bin above the tertiary crusher which takes care of the variation in circulating loads.All three crushers are gyratory crushers. There is no grizzly ahead of the primary crusher but the fines are removed from the primary crusher discharge at the first screen and sent directly to the fine ore bins. The vapor-deposited or electroplated coatings are usually composed of a plurality of nickel- and chromium-containing layers, which are applied to copper-containing carrier layers on the polymers. Previously, recycling processes are mainly focussed at the recovery or thermal utilization of the plastics. Targeted and selective recycling of the metallic coatings is usually not carried out. Together with several SME, BTU developed a process, in which a complete and separate recovery of all components in high purity is possible with biotechnological methods. The bioleaching is carried out with iron and sulfur-oxidizing bacteria, especially Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans. The copper-containing layers are dissolved in the solution; chromium- and nickel-containing particles are precipitated as solids. After the bioleaching, a mechanical separation of the individual metal-containing components and their separate workup are carried out. End-products are metallic copper, a nickel- and chromium-containing solid and the cleaned plastics. The bioleaching ensures a high purity of the end products. Through the use of bacteria, which are also found in nature, the process is environmentally friendly. Compared to chemical leaching using inorganic acids, considerably shorter leaching times can be achieved. In addition to the optimization of the leaching process, the R/D-project also includes the development and testing of the apparatus technology.INTRODUCTION The material complexity of many end-user products has increased in recent years, especially in the fields of electrical appliances, vehicle technology and medical technology. However, the demands on functionality, safety, comfort and energy efficiency still play a greater role in product design as factors such as sustainability and usability. For example, if a car still holds more than 70% of steel in the 1980s, a vehicle nowadays includes a larger proportion of a variety of difficultly separable plastics and composite materials, as well as complex metal composites. This relates in particular to composites made from such different materials as metals and plastics. The processing and recovery of the components of those complex material mixtures is difficult for recycling companies."
