A technique for the synthesis of mineral processing flowsheets from laboratory batch test data is described and examples of the application of the procedure are given. The procedure requires the collection of kinetic data, the optimization of the flotation time in each separation stage, then simulation of the material balance for a continuous circuit.

Salicylaldehyde, a chelating agent for tin, has been found to function as a collector for the flotation of cassiterite. Infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance studies clearly show that salicylaldehyde can form a chelate compound in bulk and at the surface. Results are also given for the flotation of a tin ore with this reagent.

It has been reported previously that dolomite samples from different locations showed varying flocculation behavior with Poly(ethyleneoxide) (PEO). In this study it is determined that palygorskite associated with the Florida dolomite samples is responsible for their flocculation with PEO. A detailed characterization of the dolomite samples from different locations and its relevance to flocculation with PEO is discussed.

In this study, the performance of a continuous, laboratory-scale hindered-settling column was evaluated for various particle systems. It is widely accepted that particles stabilize flotation froths and that stable froths result in improved flotation performance. Predicting the effect of particle addition on froth stability is, however, challenging. The precipitation characteristics of copper and nickel cyanides from solutions continuing copper zinc and nickel cyano complexes are examined. Most of the current remediation practices with mining wastes are concentrated on stabilization techniques. Once stabilized, valuable resources are no longer readily available for recovery and reuse.
