The present study is devoted to improvement of the leaching efficiency during phosphorous removal from high phosphorous gravity-magnetic concentrate. Before leaching the concentrate has been subjected to roasting with the addition of either Ca(OH)2 or CaO. The oolitic iron ore is roasted at 900°C for one hour. This reflects in reaction between alkaline earth additive and quartz, aluminosilicates, phosphorus, and some other minor components of the gangue minerals. The application of leaching, physical separation, and wash out of salts has resulted in the decrease of phosphorus from 0.7 to 0.15 % and it is established that the major influencing factor is the concentration of acid and to a less extent duration of the leaching process. About two third of the phosphorus can be removed by roasting with 3 % CaO to hematite, coarse grinding to d50 0.3 mm, dry high intensity magnetic separation and leaching of the magnetic fraction with hydro-chloric or nitric acid.

Leachates from gold heap-leaching mines contain selenium concentrations as high as 2 mg/L. Previous studies report satisfactory selenium adsorption by activated alumina when using relatively "clean" drinking waters. However, the findings of these studies cannot be directly applied to the treatment of mine leachate where other ions compete for the alumina adsorption sites. This study evaluated the adsorption of selenium from a mine leachate to develop design parameters for full-scale activated alumina processes. The study revealed that 68% of the selenium in the leachate could be removed by alumina at pH > 5.0. Silica adversely affected the selenium adsorption capacity. At pH values < 4, silica was poorly adsorbed by alumina and selenium adsorption was improved.

"Precious metals are currently associated with refractory minerals such as telluride (Calaverite, Sylvanite, etc.) and selenium (Naumannite Ag2Se), which are difficult to dissolve through traditional methods, therefore it is necessary to perform a pretreatment (oxidative or roasting) preceding the process of leaching by cyanidation. In this preliminary work the aim was to study the use of solvent extraction to remove tellurium and selenium ions from a synthetic cyanidation effluent, with the purpose of recycling the cyanide back to the process. For the extraction of these anions, TeO32- and SeO42-, tallow trimethyl ammonium chloride (Quatarmina TPR) and hexadecyl trimethyl ammonium chloride (Amine F) were studied as extractants, using nonylphenol as a modifier in the organic phase (trimethylpentane). The results show that it is possible to recover 82% of selenium and 10% of tellurium from synthetic solutions containing either 20 mg/L Se or 20 mg/L of Te, respectively The Se or Te mole ratio to cyanide was 1:4.INTRODUCTION In relation to extraction of precious metals, the cyanidation process has been in use for over a century and despite environmental and toxicological problems it remains the most widely used and economical process available. In the late 90s, there were great efforts to recover gold and silver from refractory ores, which is difficult to do by simple cyanidation. To improve gold recovery from tellurides and selenides that occurs in some new mines, the ores are pretreated by roasting. This is one of the most effective ways of rendering refractory gold ores leachable as well as being a fast pretreatment process compared with bio-oxidation or pressure leaching (Aylmore, 2001). The most important tellurides minerals are Calaverite (AuTe2) and, Silvanite (Au, Ag)2Te4). In the case of selenides, minerals include Naumannite (Ag2Se) and Aguilarite (Ag4SeS) (Ostroumov et al., 1989). Examples of deposits containing telluride include La Bambolla Mine (Sonora, Mexico), Cripple Greek (Colorado, USA), and Kalgoorlie (Western Australia) (Aguayo et al., 1996). The main purpose of this work was to explore the feasibility of using quaternary ammonium salts such as: tallow trimethyl ammonium chloride (Quatarmina TPR) and hexadecyl trimethyl ammonium chloride (amine F) to extract tellurium and selenium anions from aqueous synthetic cyanidation effluents, so that the cyanide solution could be recycled back to leaching process. The tests were performed on synthetic solutions similar to those found in a mine: 20 mg/L Te as TeO32-, 20 mg/L Se as SeO42- and mole ratio to cyanide was 1:4. using an alkaline medium with pH ranging from 8 to 12. "With the opening of the new San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge East Span, the former bridge and its caisson foundations are being demolished. Caisson foundations are in the path of a future shipping channel and therefore need removal down to the mudline 50 ft below water (MLLW). For the first caisson to be removed (E3) a mechanical demolition was performed above the waterline and an implosion was done for the remaining caisson down to mudline. Mechanical demolition consisted of excavators operating from either on top of the caisson, from work platforms or from barges. The demolition was implemented on a trial basis with a successful implosion on November 14, 2015. The work was conducted in an environmentally sensitive area, with measures taken to protect fish, marine mammals and birds. This demolition technique was cost effective, faster to execute, and had a better environmental impact then an alternative option. The demolition, measures implemented to protect the environment, outcome, and lessons learned are presented.INTRODUCTIONThe California Department of Transportation needed a cost effective and environmentally friendly solution for removal of the remaining San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge (former East Span) caisson foundations, starting with caisson E3. This was necessary to clear a future shipping channel. One option was to construct a steel cofferdam around the caisson to allow demolition in the dry down to the mudline. This option would take years to complete, be cost prohibitive, and its noise would disrupt aquatic life and birds throughout the cofferdam construction and demolition. An alternative option was implemented on a trial basis to conduct a mechanical demolition of the caisson above waterline along with an implosion of the remaining caisson down to mudline. This had the clear advantage as a cofferdam was not needed, and the demolition project duration would be approximately 6 months, instead of several years for the cofferdam option. The potential impact on aquatic life and birds from the implosion was a concern, as the location is environmentally sensitive; however, measures were implemented to minimize these impacts. As presented in this paper, this demolition option was implemented on a trial basis for Caisson E3. The technique succeeded and will now be used on the remaining caissons.BACKGROUND INFO ON CAISSON E3The reinforced concrete Caisson E3 is the largest caisson which supported the former East Span of the Bay Bridge. It was constructed in 1934, with the Bay Bridge opening in 1936. Figure 1 shows the project location. The caisson had a cell arrangement of 7 x 2 above the mudline. Below mudline, the caisson had a cell arrangement of 9 x 4. A structural transition was made between the 7 x 2 and 9 x 4 cell arrangements with buttress walls. All cells were flooded, as underwater openings were included in the original caisson walls to equalize the hydrostatic pressure. Figure 2 shows the caisson layout with limits for mechanical demolition and for the implosion."

The removal of the refractoriness of a gold bearing pyrite- arsenopyrite ore is studied. Flotation concentrates were prepared and leached with a dilute acidic ferric sulfate solution. The elemental sulfur film which forms on arsenopyrite in the oxidation process is not responsible for the low rate of the arsenic dissolution observed. A positive effect on the leaching rate is observed when Ag&apos; is added. This pretreatment eliminates the refractory nature of concentrates.

The removal of tritium from tritiated water (-0.5 µCiIL) was studied by metallothermic reduction using aluminum. The influence of the three variables namely the aluminum powder amount, the NaOH concentration and the reaction time has been studied on the tritium activity reduction. The experimental results and statistical analysis showed that more than 85% of tritium can be removed from the tritiated water. Further work on the tritium recovery as well as efforts to totally decontaminate water by incorporating a cryogenic concept is currently pursued.

The fly ash from coal combustion often has a high unburned-carbon content. This can make it unusable as a cement admixture, which is the major fly ash utilization market. As a result, high-carbon fly ashes currently disposed of by landfilling, at sometimes considerable expense. In this paper, the use of froth flotation to remove the unburned carbon from fly ash is described. Three different fly ashes were studied, which had Loss-on-Ignition (LOI) values of 6.79, 6.90, and 11.11 %. It was found that the use of an alkanolamide/oil mixture as a froth-conditioning reagent could greatly reduce the amount of collector needed, by increasing the affinity of the collector for oxidized carbonaceous surfaces. For each of the three fly ashes, froth flotation reduced the LOI of the ash to less than 2% which is well below the ASTM specification of no &apos; more than 6.0% LOI for Class F fly ash. Increasing carbon content of the ash tended to increase the quantities of reagents needed in flotation.

By changing the quality of consumed refractory bricks in burner zone of sarcheshmeh copper complex anod kiln removing of carbon precipitation phenomenon was studied. For blister deoxygenation LPG is blowing in anod kiln and cause destoring microsturcture and bonding of refractory bricks. Studies are shown that in a part of the bricks which have a temperature of 800 - 1000 °C , iron content phases in magesia - chromite bricks are like catalist and cause increasing the rate of carbon precipitation reactions . In a way that in comparsion of two bricks with best and medium quality with different analysis, this problem is more critical in best quality bricks containing high iron oxide. Therefore special magesia spinel bricks suggested and installed in burning zone.

"When MacLean Engineering chairman and founder Don MacLean got the first question from a minesite about the possibility of addressing ventilation limits through incremental fleet electrification, he was intrigued. It was back in 2015, and the MacLean scissor bolter was already diesel-electric (jumbo trailing cable), so it made sense to him that if they could engineer a battery drive system for the unit’s tramming cycle, they would have the inaugural electric vehicle (EV) MacLean unit.At that time, there were not any entirely diesel-free hard rock mines in existence on the planet, and that remains the case to this day — although the Borden project in northern Ontario is progressing toward that goal (see page 33). This meant there was essentially zero market demand for battery electric vehicles as well as a complete lack of battery technology to address the battery electrification of heavy haulage. Heavy haulage is the part of a typical mine’s mobile fleet with the largest footprint when it comes to diesel particulate emissions, greenhouse gases and wasted energy in the form of heat.Three years later — the wave of battery electrification that is currently picking up speed across the mining industry promises to hit full swing by the early 2020s when a slew of new build, diesel-free mines will start construction. But this movement toward emissions-free mobile fleets is not a completely new phenomenon. Instead, it is an updating of mining technology from a previous generation. What is going on now is the re-electrification of mining. Up until the 1960s, early generations of battery technology (lead acid) and electric locomotive systems were the norm for material and ore haulage in Canada and elsewhere.The thought of a coming paradigm change in mining was particularly pertinent to Don MacLean back in 2015, as he had been part of the era that ushered in the first generation of rubber-tire diesel equipment, when he was a divisional foreman with Inco in Sudbury in the 1970s. He was part of the operating team that was tasked to build a rail loop on one extraction level of the mine. At that time, events on the ground overtook the project, as diesel-powered mobile equipment became a viable option. Once the first diesel scoop was introduced at Creighton #3 shaft, it was clear what the power, haulage capacity and mobility could do for operations and that era of electric rail haulage underground was effectively over."

"Separation removal of fluorite and calcite from scheelite is a difficult technical operation in current industrial practice with a heating process causing large energy consumption and high production costs. In this work, the floatation separation at room temperature were carried out using two types of skarn scheelite ores. The results showed that CaO and Na203 are better than NaOH as a regulator in pH value. In the rough floatation and first cleaning floatation, CaO (500g/t), Na203 (3000g/t) were used as a pH regulator, waterglass (4000g/t) was as a gangue depressant, oleic acid or sodium oleate were used as a collector. The degree of the obtained W03 concentrate was more than 65% (commercial product).IntroductionThe mainly gangue in scheelite are quartz, calcite, barite and some rare metal ores. There are three main types of scheelite for floatation: scheelite--quartz (silicate minerals) type, scheelite-calcite/ fluorite type, scheelite--calcite/fluorite/barite type. Generally speaking, scheelite--quartz type is separated easily, and others are difficult, on the contrary. The last two kinds of scheelite are always called scheelite--calcite/fluorite (barite) type, because there are similar floatation ability and floatation process between them. Scheelite, calcite and fluorite have same cation - Ca2+, it makes them have close floatation property [1]. Separation removal of fluorite and calcite from scheelite is a difficult technical operation in current industrial practice.The traditional separation method is a heating floatation process (Petrov's process) [2]. It can deal with many kinds of scheelite, and can be obtained stable quality ofW03 concentrate. On the other hand Petrov's process causes large energy consumption, high production costs and bad operational environments. Since 1980s, scheelite ambient temperature floatation has become the mainstream of study [3]. Nowadays more and more studies on scheelite floatation focus on complex reagent system [4, 5], rigid operating rules and at the same time development new regulator [1, 5]. Some research show there are new regulators can concentrate scheelite efficiently, but it may cause high costs, potential pollution and difficulty to spread. Oleic acid and sodium oleate used as collector have high adsorption capacity to scheelite, but same to calcite and fluorite[6]. So, it would not get ideal effect for separation of scheelite. In this work, the floatation separation at room temperature were carried out using two kinds of skarn scheelite ores. Calcium oxide and sodium carbonate was used as a pH value regulator, waterglass was used as a depressant and Oleic acid/sodium oleate was used as a collector. The result of experiment showed that the degree of the obtained W03 concentrate was more than 65% by one time ambient temperature roughing floatation, several times ambient temperature cleaning process."

Manchas de óleo em um meio aquoso foram removidas utilizando compósitos de parafina com nanopartículas de ferritas de cobalto (CoFe2O4), níquel (NiFe2O4) e níquel-zinco (Ni0,7Zn0,3Fe2O4), nas proporções de 13,0% e 28,5% em peso. Para avaliar a eficiência da remoção, foi determinada a velocidade dos compósitos ao serem acoplados a uma mancha de óleo na superfície da água e submetidos ao campo magnético de um imã permanente. O melhor desempenho foi obtido com o compósito de parafina contendo 13,0% em peso de ferrita de níquel-zinco.

O objetivo deste trabalho é mostrar os estudos para remoção de sulfatos no efluentes industrial da Votorantim Metais Zinco, unidade Três Marias.Um dos maiores desafios na indústria que trabalha com meio sulfúrico em seus processos, é a remoção de sulfato de seus efluentes. Neste sentido a Votorantim avaliou vários processos distintos a fim de atingir uma concentração máxima de 250mg/L de sulfatos, dentre eles, precipitação química, redução biológica e resina de troca iônica.Dentre os processos avaliados, o que apresentou os melhores resultados foi a precipitação química através da formação de etringita, composto de fácil separação sólido-líquido, atingindo resultados de concentração de sulfato inferiores a meta máxima de concentração.

Examples of projects include renewable energy considerations that incorporate solar, wind, and/or biomass options, and contain components designed to educate business, government entities and the local community on renewable energy options and potential opportunities Multiple property re-use options are being researched and evaluated, based on site-specific conditions and characteristics, including infrastructure, local community needs and regional economic conditions. Re-use options being explored include innovative uses and needs, such as specialty housing, unique business and industrial needs, and an extensive variety of recreational and small business opportunities that best fit the specific needs of the local community and regional economic structure.

The iron ore mining district of Labrador West and adjacent Quebec is Canada&apos;s largest iron ore producer with almost 50 years of production. The area is currently experiencing a period of renewed activity not seen in decades that includes new mine development, mine expansion and exploration for new iron ore resources. All of the past and present production and exploration programs in the district are centred on the Lower Proterozoic Superior-type iron formations of the Knob Lake Group, located within the Grenville tectonic province of the Canadian Shield. The Knob Lake Group is a continental margin sedimentary sequence which was deformed and subjected to greenschist to upper amphibolite facies metamorphism during the Grenville orogeny. Regional deformation and metamorphism plays a key role in making the iron formation of the Knob Lake Group economic. The distribution of orebodies in the district is controlled by superimposed F1/F2 synclines which causes thickening of the iron formation through repetition. Ore mineralogy consists of specular haematite, magnetite and locally martite with quartz as the major gangue mineral. Regional metamorphism has caused an increase in grain size of the ore minerals making it more amenable to concentrating and pelletising. Altius has been active in Labrador West since 2003 and is now the second largest licence holder in the district with several iron ore exploration projects. The Kamistiatusset project is located in the heart of the region&apos;s transportation, power and mining infrastructure. The property has seen limited previous exploration, but covers several significant iron ore prospects. Work by Altius includes a helicopter-borne magnetic survey, ground magnetic and gravity surveys, geological mapping, sampling and 6000 m of diamond core drilling all of which confirm both a favourable geologic setting and ore mineralogy.

The Renison Bell Tin Mine on the West Coast of Tasmania has recently installed a new underground ore handling system incorporating underground crushing, conveying and hoisting facilities. Contracts for the sinking of the shaft and the development of the mine were let and managed by the operator, Renison Limited. Hardcastle & Richards was responsible for the design, procurement and construction management of the fixed plant and equipment including civil, structural, mechanical, electrical and instrumentation services. The system demonstrates worldÆs best practice in design and incorporates a state-of-the-art integrated control system allowing the entire system to be controlled by a single operator located in the underground crusher chamber. A rapid construction period was achieved, despite the difficult and constrained underground environment, without affecting the ongoing operations of the mine. The mine, which was established in the mid-1960s, had previously operated by trucking ore to the surface via a decline. Truck haulage distances and costs had increased as the mine became deeper over the years. By the 1990s it had become apparent that, in order to remain economically viable, it was necessary to reduce truck haulage distances and allow the mine to go still deeper to access orebodies such as Rendeep beneath the current workings. The Internal Shaft System achieved this by eliminating approximately 5 km of truck haulage. It allows the production rate to be increased to up to 1 Mtpa compared with a limit of 628 kt per annum by direct truck haulage to surface. The access it provides to the Rendeep ore and other deep orebodies greatly increases the amount of ore which can be economically mined.

Sales: I began in Butte, Montana, on August 22, 1900 as an assistant engineer for the Boston & Montana Consolidated Copper and Silver Mining Co., and continued at that job for about a year. The general manager was C. S. Batterman, and the mines- Mountain View, Pennsylvania, Leonard, East Colusa, and one or two others-were part of Boston & Montana.

Due to the ongoing restructuring of the mining industry in central Europe with a continuous decline of the number of large underground mines and collieries, and a simultaneous decline of staff numbers in the remaining mines, the established mine rescue schemes are endangered to collapse. With the end of the mine rehabilitation at Wismut Uranium in 2014, the last remaining major mine rescue teams in Saxony, providing basic mine rescue services for all other mines in the region, will disappear. This will leave a large number of small mines and other underground operations without capable mine rescue support. Since none of these companies is able to set up a complete mines rescue unit on its own, new ways have to be found. Among others, a central mine rescue team for central Germany as well as the assistance by special trained professional fire fighters or mine rescue teams from abroad are discussed. Problems like location of the central rescue team, financing, communication and transport have to be solved. This paper provides an overview over the complexity of the problem as an example for other mining regions worldwide and will discuss national and cross-national strategies.

Cada uma das partes do regenerador tem funções únicas e consequentemente soluções únicas, que visam o reparo no estado da arte com menor custo.

Some literatures discussed on how to recycle the various reagent, but the discussion on how to reuse the waste liquid directly is very little. How to reuse the waste liquid directly was researched in this paper. Firstly, the waste liquid should be filtrated to remove the impurity; then some quantity of H2O2 solution was dripped into the waste liquid to pretreat it; finally, CuSO4solution was added into the treated waste liquid and the pH was adjusted to about 12, then some HCHO solution was added into the waste liquid, in which the treated carbon fiber can be plated. The morphology and composition of coatings were investigated by means of Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS), the deposition rate was mensurated by the way of dissolution. The results indicated that, the plating effect was basically identical with new plating solution, and the solution is stable, and the plating rate is still about 0.8µm/h, and the copper coating is even and combines closely with carbon fiber. According to this way, the waste liquid can be reuse 5~7 times.

DEVELOPMENT at Steep Rock lake has given rise to renewed interest in the geology of the iron ore deposits in the Lake Superior Region and has implications of no small moment bearing upon methods of exploration in the Precambrian Shield generally. Following upon the Regional Lake Superior meeting of the American Institute of Mining and Metallurgical Engineers in August, 1941, the authors prepared a paper on the Steep Rock deposits, which appeared in the A.I.M.E. publication, Mining Technology, for January, 1943. Between Januar7 and April, 1943, exploration at Steep Rock was continued by means o vertical, Mesabi-type churn-drill holes put down from the ice. This drilling has enlarged the tonnage of ore previously known and has disclosed further facts relating to the origin of the ore. The added evidence, we believe, goes to support the hypothesis that the deposits were formed by a process of replacement due to upward-moving, iron-bearing solutions which came in as igneous after-effects. Accordingly, in presenting the subject to the Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, it seems best not to change our first explanation, but to prefix the original paper with an interpretation of the results of the more recent explorations completed after its publication.
