The Kisladag Mine, Turkey, is a large porphyry gold deposit which is mined by open pit methods. In operation for over ten years, Kisladag provides an excellent example of how attention to a geologic feature, namely hydrothermal alteration, became a very effective predictive geological tool for planning and operation. The alteration domains were initially used as a geological tool to assist with establishment of resource model domains and to guide delineation drilling, but they were soon recognised to be correlative to geotechnical characteristics (affecting pit slope angles) and metallurgical performance (heap leach recoveries). Recent developments in spectral processing allow the systematic quantification of complex overlapping alteration phases and have greatly improved the ability to rapidly define internally consistent alteration domains for geotechnical and geometallurgical purposes.Alteration at Kisladag comprises a central core potassic (K-feldspar-biotite) zone, a tourmaline-white mica enveloping zone, an advanced argillic lithocap on the deposit’s eastern side and an overprinting pervasive argillic zone. These alteration zones and their distribution were based initially on strictly qualitative, visual mineralogical logging of diamond drill core. With the need for more accurate and consistent identification of the alteration mineral suites, particularly the phyllosilicate phases, logging was augmented by systematic measurement of spectral data using a Terraspec instrument.Recently the Kisladag spectral database (over 85 000 readings) was reprocessed by the newly developed methodology (aiSIRIS™) that allows relative quantification of the spectrally-responsive minerals. Visualising this transformed spectral mineralogy at various mineral concentration thresholds using implicit modelling software (Leapfrog®) led to the creation of consistent mineralogical and alteration domains that are used for the definition of geotechnical and geometallurgical parameters. This article discusses the behavior of temperature and microwave thermo gravimetric analysis characteristic of ammonium paratungstate in a microwave field. Experimental results show that when 12g of material is place in a microwave with 900W of power, paratungstate’s temperature rises at 70°C/min. This results in paratungstate’s temperature being 980°C after 14 minutes. Compared with thermo gravimetric analysis characteristic, former two-step process of paratungstate microwave calcined completed ahead of schedule, after two-step process reaction is more intense,Paratungstate warming is more rapidly, the reaction time is much shorter; According to XRD and SEM, the product is high purity, the crystal particle size is uniform, and the grain size is fine.

Fibras naturais estão cada vez mais sendo empregadas como fase de reforço em materiais compósitos com matriz polimérica, pois estas apresentam vantagens ecológicas e econômicas quando comparadas as fibras sintéticas. São fontes renováveis de matéria prima, são biodegradáveis e utilizam menos energia para sua produção. Foram avaliadas propriedades de tração de compósitos de matiz polimérica epóxi reforçada com altos volumes correspondendo a 40% e 50% de volume de fibras de juta contínuas e alinhadas. Os testes foram realizados na maquina universal Instron. A resistência à tração apresentou um aumento crescente com a adição da fase de fibras de juta na matriz.

Recent hotel investment projects in China often involve very tight programmes for design and construction. An example given in this paper involves a 24-storey reinforced concrete hotel tower with 460 bedrooms and a 3-level podium commercial complex. The building is supported by relatively widely spaced columns and shear walls below which 88 number large diameter piers were excavated through fill, silty and bouldery clay on to dolerite and slate at depths between 15 to 3 0m below ground level. Whereas much experience has been accumulated in Hong Kong, hand-excavated pier foundation was only adopted for the first time in Dalian. This paper describes and discusses the various factors influencing the choice of the type and design of the foundation system. The criteria for determining appropriate founding levels are then explained. During installation, revisions to the acceptance procedure were made to cater for local conditions. Emphasis is placed on the role of the geotechnical engineer in making on-site decisions during construction. The advantage of the foundation system in accommodating on-site changes resulting from local complex ground conditions is demonstrated. The pier foundations were successfully completed ahead of programme.

"Carbon which was used as heating and reducing agent in traditional iron and steel making process at present brought us large amounts of greenhouse gas harmful gases and dust seriously leading to the fog and haze condition. As one of ideal global new energies, Hydrogen has good features such as rich resource, high heat efficiency, cleanness, renewable and transportation. With the commercialization of hydrogen energy, the world energy structure will be changed greatly. Although many scholars have done a lot of researches and long-term exploration on hydrogen metallurgy, researches on the formation of metal iron phase in the process of hydrogen reduction of iron oxides in slag was rarely reported, which had important theoretical significance on the development of hydrogen smelting reduction process. Based on the thermodynamics and kinetics calculation, A laboratory experiment has been designed to research the iron phase formation during hydrogen reduction of iron oxides in the molten slag in this paper. SEM and EDS techniques were also used to observe and analyze the iron morphology. According to detection results, the influence of temperature, reaction time and surface tension on the morphology of the iron phase reduced were showed.IntroductionWith the increasingly severe global warming greenhouse effect, governments are paying more attention to no-carbon and low-carbon energy development and utilization. "Methane-air mixtures form explosive gas zones (EGZs) in underground longwall coal mine gob ventilation systems. Such EGZs have caused a number of fatal mine explosions, including the 2010 disaster at the Upper Big Branch mine, where 29 miners lost their lives. Researchers at the Colorado School of Mines use Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling to predict EGZ locations. In this paper, a model of a bleeder-ventilated gob system includes two adjacent panels, an active longwall and a mined-out gob. Boundary conditions for the simulations match statutory ventilation conditions for methane concentrations and air flow rates at common measurement points throughout the mine. The modeling results predict the persistence of EGZs in the gob that may compromise the effectiveness of the bleeder ventilation system. INTRODUCTION Mine operators must maintain statutory air flow and air quality requirements at various locations throughout the mine ventilation network. U.S. regulations generally require mine operators to establish bleeder ventilation systems surrounding longwall gob areas (30 CFR §75.334.) Gilmore et al. (2015) documented that explosive gas zones (EGZs) exist within bleeder-ventilated gobs and may extend into the bleeder entries that must be examined weekly, presenting an immediate fire and explosion hazard to mine examiners. In a project funded by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) under contract 200-2009-31409, researchers at Colorado School of Mines have developed a tool for modeling gob air quality using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). This CFD model is capable of examining a wide range of longwall mine ventilation systems. Marts et al. (2014a, 2015) studied progressively sealed gobs with U-type ventilation and using a back return. Saki et al. (2015) examined the impact of gob ventilation boreholes and face air quantity effects on tailgate methane concentrations. Gilmore et al. (2014) modeled bleeder-ventilated gobs and Gilmore et al. (2015) studied the effects of bleeder regulator settings on EGZ volume and locations in the gob. CFD studies for progressively sealed gobs were generally carried out using 5000 ft (1500 m) panels because the gob atmosphere remains largely unchanged from about 500 m (1,500 ft) inby the face. A modular meshing methodology (Gilmore, 2015) permitted researchers to extend bleeder models to 10,000 ft (3050 m) to include the full extent of bleeder entries. This paper further expands the bleeder CFD model to study the gob atmospheres of two adjacent longwall panels, each 10,200 ft (3100 m) in length, with the active face located 6,700 ft (2040 m) from the startup room."

A recent correlation for multiphase vertical flow by Hagedorn and Brown1,7 has been used to examine the effect of numerous variables such as pipe size, gas-liquid ratio, liquid flow rate, liquid viscosity, liquid surface tension, oil API gravity, water cut, etc., on flowing pressure gradients. Most previous correlations were derived by using a form of the general energy equation which assumed negligible changes in kinetic energy. Under certain flow conditions this can lead to serious errors in predicting pressure traverses. Examples of traverses calculated both with and without the kinetic energy term are included here. The Chew and Connully correlation for calculating changes in viscosity with changing pressure and temperature has been extended so that the effect of a changing viscosity with depth on pressure gradients can also be predicted. Examples illustrating the effect of tubing size show the importance of this correlation in determining pipe sizes for initial well completions. Limitations on production rates in small pipe sizes from excessive friction losses can be predicted with greater accuracy. The combined use of a vertical-flow correlation with a horizontal-flow correlation provides a method for determining the maximum flow rate possible from both flowing and gas-lift wells. Examples are included to illustrate application of the combined use of vertical and horizontal-flow correlations in optimizing production rates and minimizing excessive costs from over injection of gas in gas-lift wells. INTRODUCTION The problems of multiphase vertical and horizontal flow are immediately encountered in any producing well. Fig. 1' shows three stages of production: flow in porous medium, vertical flow and horizontal flow. All three stages affect the production rate from a well. If we are confronted with a particular well and consider only the variables involved in the vertical and horizontal stages of Fig. 1, we should be capable of calculating the flowing bottom-hole pressure necessary to produce a particular flow rate. A change in any of the variables results in a new solution to the problem. Recent approaches in developing horizontal and vertical-flow correlations have improved to the extent that the solution can now be obtained with more confidence than previously. VERTICAL AND HORIZONTAL FLOW CORRELATIONS Since Poettmann and Carpenter's' original work in multiphase vertical flow, there have been many additional vertical-flow correlations developed which have greatly improved the accuracy of pressure-loss calculations. It is shown that the Gates-Gaudin-Schuhmann equation can cause excessive congestion in the 50 per cent oversize range and that, overall, the Rosin-Rammler is a better procedure. Examples are given

During the year 1945, the total number of wells drilled in Ohio, including the. non¬productive wells, was 1034. For the 10-year period ending with 1945, the average completions per year were 1125, the least number being 910 in 1938, and the maximum 1561 in 1941. The proportion of dry holes in 1945 was 37 per cent?about the same as for the year 1944 but exceeding the 10-year average, which was 34 per cent. The number of oil wells completed exceeded the number drilled in 1944 by about 30 per cent, the average initial per well being the same in both years. Gas-well completions were approximately 10 per Cent less than in 1944, with the average initial per well about 5 per cent greater. The difference in number of oil and gas wells in the two years was in Berea and Clinton completions, as the number of oil wells increased about 30 per cent, owing to greater activity in the two sands named, while the number of gas wells decreased because of fewer completions therein.

Fibras lignocelulósicas vem se tornando alvo de cada vez mais estudos que visam ampliar o aspecto de suas aplicações. Uma de suas aplicações mais importantes é como reforço de compósitos poliméricos na substituição de fibras sintéticas, que não são ambientalmente corretas. Todavia, as fibras ligoncelulósicas com Malva, Juta dentre outras possuem algumas características negativas para sua incorporação em matrizes poliméricas, como por exemplo, o fato dessas não possuírem boa aderência aos polímeros, pelo seu caráter hidrofílico e do caráter hidrofóbico das resinas. Esse trabalho estudou a incorporação de manta hibrida de fibras de malva e juta em compósitos epoxy DGEBA/TETA para testes de impacto Charpy. Os corpos de prova foram feitos sob pressão para que houvesse uma melhora na aderência. O aumento do volume da manta incorporado gerou um aumento da resistência apresentado que pode ser justificado pelo fato da manta atuar como um bloqueador de trincas.

Total value of mineral production in 1966 was $148.6 million.l/ Clays and stone produced the most income, Other minerals included sand and gravel, iron ore, mica, talc, barite, bauxite, cement, feldspar, kyanite, peat, and rare-earth metals, titanium and zircon concentrates. Georgia ranks first among the states in production of kaolin, second in fuller's earth and rare-earth concentrates, third in bauxite and kyanite, fourth in barite and ilmenite, and fifth in feldspar. It is quite likely that phosphates will one day be mined in the south eastern part: of the state, and that alumina will be produced from the extensive kaolin deposits in the central part of the state.

Coal-bearing Tertiary sediments of the Ravenscrag Formation in southern Saskatchewan host numerous deposits of clinker resulting from in situ coal combustion. Clinker deposits form when sediments of relatively low temperature firing properties overlie coal seams which are undergoing prolonged spontaneous combustion. The resulting fired material is useful for decorative landscaping aggregate, rock gardens, driveways, mud control and others. Predicting the occurrence of clinker deposits requires a knowledge of the spatial distribution of coal seams and the nature ofoverlying sediments. Knowledge ofpaleotopography at the time of coal combustion can assist in locating more highly-fused material which can yield greater block sizes. Coal data bases can be used as a predictive tool by outlining areas where coal is or was at or near surface and therefore may have been susceptible to spontaneous combustion.

The large iron deposits in the northern region of Brazil located in the Amazon Craton have in common the presence of natural cavities. These cavities primarily occur in the upper layer of the ore body, formed above hematite mineralization. Their origin remains a topic of debate, often associated with hydrothermal drainage processes and erosive evolution. Over time, these cavities have become integral to the local environment, each contributing to the regional ecosystem of fauna, flora, and the significance of speleothems found within them. Managing these cavities poses a significant challenge for iron mines in the area. On one hand, they must preserve the cavities from anthropogenic actions, while simultaneously handling heavy equipment and large volumes. In 2023, the development of the mine took place towards the cavity under study, revealing systematic deviations in vibrations recorded during nearby detonations as the blasting got nearer. To address this, a work plan was put in place, emphasizing a straightforward approach: constructing lithology-specific vibration models, defining charge abacuses, and optimizing timing to reduce charge amplification. Implementing this methodology significantly improved adherence to the vibration limit, resulting in an around 50% reduction in standard error. This paper presents the consolidated work that allowed mining activities to continue in the area through controlled blasting, effectively mitigating potential anthropogenic damage in sensitive areas.

The Bureau of Mines has sought clarification of the Ti-TiN system by studying the phases formed by diffusion reactions between titanium and titanium nitride. Reaction couples were prepared by embedding pockets of TiN powder in arc-melted buttons of titanium. Specimens were vacuum annealed at nominal temperatures of 800°, 950°, 1,200°, and 1,500° C. Metallographically mounted cross sections from reacted specimens and from some that were not annealed were examined optically, with an electron microprobe, with an election microscope, and by X-ray diffraction. Each annealed specimen contained a segregated core primarily of d-phase material, an ?-phase diffusion layer, an a-phase diffusion layer, and host metal. On the basis of corresponding microprobe analyses, and considering results of certain other research, a new phase diagram is proposed. It contains no qualitative innovations, only quantitative adjustments. Results were also analyzed from the viewpoint of diffusion behavior. Diffusion coefficients calculated for the ? phase were sufficiently scattered that the parameters are very tentative. Nevertheless, the diffusion behavior reported is in reasonable agreement with one of two prior studies if it is assumed that the earlier investigators were mistaken in their identification of the nitride phase in which the diffusion occurred.

An initial evaluation of the flow of cobalt-containing materials in the United States was prepared. The following aspects of materials flow were included: cobalt released as a result of mining and processing other metals and minerals; scrap generation and subsequent recycling or cobalt recovery; and cobalt losses resulting from the generation of wastes, dissipative uses, and disposal of used products. Where possible, estimates were made to quantify the amount of cobalt lost from the materials flow. More than 2,000 metric tons (mt) of cobalt are released annually from mining and mineral processing in the United States, including 480 mt of cobalt in coal produced in the United States. Metallurgical industries examined in this study have well-established recycling or cobalt recovery practices. The petroleum industry recycles spent catalysts, and some chemical catalysts are also recycled. Losses generated during cobalt chemical and powder processing were estimated at 50 to 80 mt of cobalt annually. Losses from alloy processing and the manufacture of parts and products were estimated to be 360 mt. These industrial losses are greatly outweighed by an estimated 2,780 mt of cobalt' consumed in the United States each year to make products that will ultimately be disposed of.

THE cause of silicosis and its prevention have held the attention of medical men and mine operators for many years and at the present rime the study of this disease is more than ever to the fore, even though a considerable abatement in the incidence of silicosis has been noted of late. This abatement is due to individual and collective efforts. The Industry is keenly alive to the situation and much research is being carried on. Silica dust is assumed to be a contributing factor in the cause of silicosis. How it acts progressively in the early silicoric is nor fully understood. As the study advances, more effective measures of control may be evolved. At present the Industry has three known methods of reducing the incidence: 1. By thorough X-ray examination of all applicants, with special reference to chest conditions. Those who are considered to be susceptible to the disease are prevented from entering the industry. 2. Thorough ventilation of the mine. 3. Control of tuberculosis in mining centres and removal of miners when first symptoms of tuberculosis become apparent. In 1934, the Ontario Mining Association formed a Committee, known as the Technical Silicosis Research Committee, to study and supervise work on problems related to silicosis. This Committee obtained the full-rime services of a mining engineer to carry our research work at the mines in the Province of Ontario. The Ontario Mining Association has also provided funds for the purpose of carrying on research work along pathological and biological lines. This work is being done in the Department of Medical Research of the University of Toronto, in the Banting Institute, under the supervision of Sir Frederick Banting. The Silicosis Committee work in full cooperation with the doctors in the Banting Institute and provide material from the mines for the it use.
