East Pit Wira II Project in South Kalimantan, Indonesia with a radius of <500 meters (1,640 ft) from residential has about 454,168 tonnes of coal reserves, with a total remaining reserves of 3,369,383 tonnes (topography per end of June 2011). Thus, reserves may be lost as much as 13.48%. Therefore, it is needed to determine safe blasting technique which meets the Indonesian National Standards (SNI) No. 7571:2012 of vibration threshold, the maximum vibration of 3 mm/s (0.118 in/s) and air blast of 120 dB.

This paper introduces the mechanism and the operating process of dike building by silt squeezing blasting. DBSSB (dike building by silt squeezing blasting) has the following advantages: shorter construction period (the construction period is decided only by the speed of rock materials filling)greater consolidation of the body of the dike, more structural stability, smaller settlement. Therefore by conventional standards the same dike can be designed with a smaller cross section than other construction methods, and at a reduced cost when enough rock materials can be provided in site.

In 1978, Congress enacted Public Law 95-604, the "Uranium Mill Tailings Radiation Control Act of 1978." The Act authorizes the Department of Energy to stabilize and control the tailings from designated inactive uranium mill tailings sites in a safe and environmentally acceptable manner. DOE has established the Uranium Mill Tailings Remedial Actions (UMTRA) Project Office to implement, in cooperation with the affected States, Indian tribes and owners of the sites, remedial actions at the sites. The UMTRA Project Office has initiated efforts to perform remedial actions in accordance with EPA cleanup standards.

Nitrogen solubilities in water at 100, 200, and 400 psi, in the temperature range 100 to 175C, were determined using an automated system involving flash evaporation and gas chromatography. Rates of gas transfer into a standard laboratory auto-clave were measured by the same technique. The rates at which a gas can dissolve into such a reactor were found to be close to the rates of oxygen consumption observed during the oxidation of several mineral sulfides, indicating that gas transfer might be a rate-limiting step in autoclave leaching.

A variety of domestic bauxites have been beneficiated to meet refractory grade standards by use of high intensity, high gradient, wet magnetic separation. Besides reducing the iron content to less than 2%, the Ti02 content of the bauxite was also reduced. The beneficiation can be accomplished by means of a simplified wet process flow sheet with an estimated cost comparable to that of water washed, filler grade kaolin. The process has been carried out on a small pilot plant and then scaled to produce 25 tonnes of calcined refractory bauxite meeting National Stockpile Specifications.

The first large scale application of radio remote control equipment to standard gage railroad trains has been achieved at the Morenci mine of Phelps Dodge Corp. at Morenci, Ariz. Twenty or more ore and waste haulage trains are remote control operated at any one time, each with a one-man crew. Reduction of train crews from two men to one man has materially lowered the total cost of train operation. Elimination of brakemen has also resulted in an improvement in train efficiency brought about by a shortening of train haulage cycle times.

Statistical techniques are being widely used in geochemical exploration to answer questions involving sample spacing, analytical and sampling errors, thresholds, data smoothing, and optimum combination of several elements into one measure of favorability. The applications of sampling theory, mean and standard deviation, trend surfaces, moving averages, factor analysis, cluster analysis, discriminant analysis, and regression analysis to these questions are discussed with examples. Although the techniques are very useful as means of handling large amounts of data, they require as much geological and geochemical judgment as any other approach to data interpretation.

The paper explores a parametric analysis of a four-pile group in contact (hence piled raft) and without contact (hence standard pile group) with the superficial soil layer, under a combined set of loadings (moment M, vertical V and horizontal H forces). The major design parameters of interest, as total and differential settlements, and raft bending moments and shear stresses are assessed under aforementioned distinct conditions. The slenderness ratio of the piles is also varied along the analyses, allowing the establishment of its influence on the derived parameters.

Gretley Colliery is situated at Wallsend, a suburb of Newcastle in New South Wales and is owned and operated by the Newcastle Wallsend Coal Ccnpany, a wholly owned subsidiary of Peko Wallsend Limited. The mine has been an efficient bord and pillar producer by industry standards. However, its continued economic viability was threatened because the bulk of remaining reserves lie in more difficult mining conditions and are of poorer quality. Alternatives were examined to improve productivity and allow Gretley to become more competitive in the current difficult market Environment.

In the past decade a good deal of effort has gone into the computer simulation of the heat distribution of pellet induration systems. The major uncertainty in the analysis of such systems is the gas flow distribution and, in particular, the role of leakage. Evaluation of the leakage into or out of a zone has proved to be very difficult, as has the cross-flow from one zone to another when adjoining zones have gas flows which change direction from up draft to down draft for example. This paper describes an initial model to calculate the gas flow distribution in a variety of practical situations of interest to those involved in pellet induration. The model is based upon a multiphase CFD code called CASCADE which is used in conjunction with the pellet induration simulation INDSYS.

"Nippon Mining & Metals started a new copper anode slime treatment plant that processes slimes in a chloride media. The basic plan of the process was proposed by Mr. James E. Hoffmann and Nippon Mining & Metals modified and advanced to produce precious metals in acceptable qualities for the company. The process has a wet chlorination stage of decopperized slimes, a solvent extraction and a reduction stages of gold, a silver chloride reduction stage and separative reduction stage of its gold extraction raffinate. The new plant of this process started in 1997 and has been operated in good condition.IntroductionThe old anode slime treatment plant of Nippon Mining & Metals, located in it's Hitachi Refinery, processed anode slimes through a combination of pyrometarllurgical processing and electrorefining. There was a need to plan a future of the plant because the maintenance cost increased year by year and a new selenium registration was going to be applied to the plant. Some plans were discussed and the result was that the process proposed by Mr. Hoffmann was superior among them.Nippon Mining & Metals started 'to examine the process and the experimental result showed that the process had an ability to be its new process but further research should be necessary to produce precious metals in acceptable qualities. The final process flow has some modified and additional stages to be suitable for its requirement. Silver processing stage is quite changed. Gold extraction stage has a new step to polish gold loading DBC. Gold extraction raffinate treatment stage is advanced to be able to recover precious metals, selenium and tellurium, separately. Aeration under atmospheric pressure is employed in decopperizing stage.The basic design of the new plant started in 1995 and finished in 1997. The construction of the new plant began in April 1997 and finished in October. The plant has been operating well after the four months test operation."

Amorphization and martensitic transformation (Ms) characteristics of Ti–Ni-Cu alloy ribbons prepared by melt spinning were investigated by means of differential scanning calorimetry and X-ray diffraction. In these experiments particular attention has been paid to change the wheel linear velocity from 21 to 63 m/s. Then the cooling rates of ribbons were controlled. The effect of this cooling rate and alloy composition on martensitic transformation behavior is discussed.

"The Dollard oil field in southwestern Saskatchewan is a stratigraphic trap of irregular shaped perimeter. The reservoir is a low-angle monoclinal structure with a dip of approximately 100 feet in 5 miles from west to east across the long axis of the reservoir. Production of. 23° API gravity crude is obtained from a Jurassic sand referred to as the J-2-A, at an approximate depth of 4,500 feet. Reservoir studies and fluid analyses revealed that the crude is highly undersaturated, having a solution GOR of approximately 130 cubic feet of gas per barrel, that the reservoir has no definable water table, and that it appears to be of a closed-boundary type. Oil production was marked by a rapid pressure decline and it was soon evident that the greatest ultimate recovery would be best obtained if the natural driving energy of the reservoir were augmented by some artificial energy source. In support of a pressure maintenance programme, studies were conducted on flood-pot recoveries of large-diameter cores, and a potentiometric model study of the field was made. These studies indicated that a successful water flood would be obtained. The Dollard field was unitized in 1955 and pressure maintenance started in March 1956."

Solid-solution alloys of the Ta- Ti system containing up to 70 at. pct Ti were melted and fabricated into wire. Steady magnetic-field measurements of cold-worked wires at 4.2°K indicate that the resistive critical field increases smoothly with increasing titanium, reaching a maximum of 93 kG (J = 1 amp per sq cm) for a composition of about 50 at. pct Ti. The composition dependence of the resistive critical field indicates it is largely paramagnetically limited for alloys containing more than 35 at. pct Ti. For cold-worked wires the value of the critical current density, Jc , was found to be insensitive to composition changes for compositions in excess of 20 at. pct Ti. It was observed that Jc could be increased by final-size heat treatment at 400°C without altering the value of- the resistive critical field. Experimental data are used to calculate the electronic specific-heat coefficient and the "upper critical field" for the alloys studied. THE effect and importance of metallurgical structure on superconducting properties have been summarized by Livingston and Schadler.1 Specific work on solid-solution alloys such as Nb-zr2-7 and Nb-Ti5-7 have shown that critical current density (Jc) and superconducting transition temperature are structure-sensitive. Berlincourt et al.6,8,9 in their studies of transition-metal alloys find that Ta-Ti alloys remain superconducting at fields comparable to Nb-Ti alloys. 6,8 Transverse critical current tests of a Ta-10 at. pct Ti alloy10 and longitudinal critical current tests of a Ta-25 at. pct Ti alloy1&apos; indicate that such alloys are capable of carrying high currents at intermediate fields (-40 kG). The work reported in the present paper was undertaken to explore the superconducting properties of further compositions in the Ta-Ti alloy system as well as the structure sensitivity of the superconducting properties. I) EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE Alloys were prepared by melting tantalum (Fansteel Metallurgical Corp., 99.96 pct purity) and iodide, crystal bar titanium (Foote Mineral Co., 99.92 pct purity) mixtures in an arc furnace on a water-cooled copper hearth using a tungsten electrode. Melting was accomplished in a purified, gettered argon atmosphere at pressures from 250 to 400 Torr. Each alloy was turned and remelted fourteen times to assure complete mixing of tantalum and titanium. Ex- cessive coring in the cast samples was, nevertheless, observed. This was somewhat reduced by annealing in vacuo at 1000°C for 13 hr. The ingots were then machined to 0.250 in. diam, jacketed in Type 304 stainless-steel tubing, and swaged to 0.140 in. diam. They were then drawn to 0.010-in.-diam wire. Alloys containing up to 70 at. pct Ti were readily cold-drawn to wire in this manner. Later experiments showed that oxygen additions up to -3000 ppm could also be cold-worked into wire. Test samples for superconductivity measurements in the 2-in, air-core Bitter solenoids of the M.I.T. National Magnet Laboratory were prepared from 10-in. lengths of 0.010-in.-diam wire, cleaned of residual wire-drawing lubricant. Current contacts were made by clamping clean copper tubing over both No. 18 current lead wire and the ultrasonically indium-tinned ends of the specimen wire.12 Potential leads of No. 32 copper wire were connected to the specimen by ultrasonic soldering in an indium bath. The potential lead separation was about 4 cm, corresponding to the circumference of the Bakelite rod to which the wire was affixed with half-mil Teflon tape. The final specimen configuration is shown in Fig. 1. Specimens were lowered into a liquid helium bath (4.2oK) in a double solenoid dewar and positioned so that the maximum magnetic field was oriented transverse to the wire axis of the gage section. Measurements were made by passing a current through the specimen at a preset solenoidal magnetic field. The current was increased until a 1-pv potential difference appeared across the gage section (1/4 µv per cm).
