The unidirectional solidification of dendrites containing central twin planes was studied in A1-Ti alloys. Once nucleated, the twinned dendrites are a Twore ejficient form for solute redistribution and therefore grow in preference to the normal columnar dendvites. Comparison of these twinned dendrites to adjacent colunmar dendrites by means of decanting experinzents and electron-probe rnicvoarmlysis indicates that these special dendrites grow with less undercooling than normal dendrites. These findings are further supported by the effect of forced convection on the dendrite morphologies. COMMERCIAL semicontinuous cast ingots of most aluminum alloys frequently exhibit large grains which appear to be composed of hundreds of parallel, continuous, thin lamellae. This structure has been termed "basaltic",' "fiederkristall", or, commonly, "feathery grain". The lamellae are 'about 100 p thick, several inches long, and each lamella contains a central (111) coherent twin boundary. The feathery grain has been reported to have a (112) direction2 and a (110) direction4 in the twin plane parallel to the casting direction, in contrast with the usual columnar structure where a (100) direction predominates. Aust et uZ.~ proposed that the twin boundaries were growth twins nucleated by stacking faults on the octahedral planes. chalmers6 has suggested that feathery grain may grow by a re-entrant edge mechanism, as proposed by wagner7 for twinned dendritic growth in germanium. Cahn et ~1.~ have concluded that the occurrence of feathery grain is evidence of some form of lateral layer growth rather than the atomically continuous growth normally observed in metals. The postulates by Chalmers and Cahn would seem to be contradicted by the work of Nakao~"' who showed that feathery grain only occurs when growth rates are high and the aluminum contains some solute. Specifically, Nakao found that in order to obtain feathery grain, in small castings solidified unidirec-tionally upward, the rate of growth must be above 2.4 cm per min and a critical solute concentration must be present. Below this solute concentration the grain structure was totally columnar. The critical solute concentration was found to be approximately: 0.04 wt pct Ti, 2 wt pct Cu or Mg, and 8 wt pct Zn. As pointed out by Chalmers it is not obvious why a twin-plane re-entrant edge mechanism would occur in aluminum which is thought to have a diffuse solid-liquid interface. The present experiments were undertaken to determine the growth mechanisms in- volved and to study the solute segregation in more detail. EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURES Alloys ranging in composition from 0.05 to 0.23 wt pct Ti* were prepared from 99.9 pct pure Ti and 99.993 pct pure Al. Two-hundred-gram samples of A1-Ti binary alloys were solidified unidirectionally and vertically upward from a water-cooled copper base, in a heated insulated mold. The 1-in.-diam, 6-in.-length mold was made of Marinite (manufactured by Johns-Manville Co.). The mold was attached to a 24-in. pivoted arm such that by dropping a weight the mold was rotated 180 deg, throwing the liquid metal from the solid. In this way, the solid-liquid interface was revealed by decanting. A sketch of the decanting mold is shown in Fig. 1. The alloy was poured into the mold at temperatures ranging from 680" to 750°C, partially solidified by water cooling from the base, and decanted after a measured time interval. Growth rates for each metal-pouring temperature were calculated from solidification-time vs length solidified curves. Temperature gradients in the melt were measured using four No. 34 gage thermocouples which protruded into the mold cavity. Grain orientations were determined by X-ray diffraction using Laue back-reflection techniques. Grain substructures were examined metallographically, using polarized light, by applying a thin epitaxial anodic film to polished sections after the method of Hone and pearson." Titanium micro segregation was measured by electron-probe microanalysis using a NORELCO AMR/~ with a mica crystal and proportional-flow counter. "The study was carried out using process solutions produced during cyanidation of gold-bearing concentrates from a gold-processing plant. It was found that the water contained a significant portion of thiocyanate (7910.0 mg/L), cyanide was virtually not present. The metals occurred primarily as iron (355.0 mg/L) in the form of ferrocyanide. Cyanide recovery was conducted using an ozone treatment process with reactors developed by the Environmental Department of Irgiredmet. The process design ensured complete utilization (100%) of O3, thus equipment operation safety increased.The recovery of free cyanide from thiocyanate was 76.6%, which corresponded to 5.12 kg of NaCN (100%) per 1 m3 of solution. Recovered NaCN can be used for recycling in hydrometallurgical processes.The operating costs estimation showed that the production cost of a tonne of recovered cyanide was US$1288.7, considering the prices of energy and commercial sodium cyanide in Russia in 2017, i.e. recovered cyanide is cheaper than commercial cyanide by 55.8%.INTRODUCTION Depletion of oxidized gold-bearing ores readily amenable to cyanidation has shifted focus to large-scale processing of primary ores with high sulphide content. Primary ores processing flow sheets involve gravitational and/or flotation concentration with subsequent treatment of produced gold-bearing concentrates. Typically, concentrates reporting to cyanidation contain considerable amounts of sulphur that can interact with CN- and further formation of SCN-. The use of refractory gold liberation methods (bacterial liberation, ultra-fine grinding) provides activation of this side reaction up to complete consumption of free cyanide in a short period. This makes water recycling unviable and impractical.The interaction of the sulphur content in concentrates and cyanide contributes substantially to consumption of NaCN required for efficient gold recovery. Inappropriate consumption of the main reagent achieves dozens of kilogram per tonne of material to cyanidation, and reaches approximately 100% when gold is recovered from activated sulphide-containing products (e.g. by ultra-fine grinding)."

The settlers of a new country necessarily suffer at first from the lack of accumulated stocks of metals - in-use that are possessed in older countries . Our American colonists were at first compelled to import their metals in manufactured forms , and it must have proved difficult to produce an exportable surplus of commodities with which to pay for them . These circumstances stimulated a search for domestic ore deposits . Various discoveries resulted , so that as early as 1628 , we find the colonists importing two craftsmen from England to establish iron -works in Massachusetts to beneficiate local ores . In 1648 , an iron -works at Lynn was producing metal at an annual rate of 400 tons . Later on , the colonial iron industries became of importance , some metal being actually exported to England . The people of this country thus early became convinced of the necessity for domestic mineral production . It is now little realized how persistent were their efforts to - make mineral discoveries , before the gold- rush to California ; the extraordinary success of our subsequent mineral explorations has overshadowed the earlier record . Precise and complete accounting of our mineral production , having the character of national bookkeeping , is available only for the series of years beginning with 1880 , when commences the official record that is provided by the Government publication called Mineral Resources of the United States . In the period of 52 years , from 1880 through 1932 , the value of mineral production of the United States amounted to more than 122 billion dollars . Only 12 billions of this total were produced in the 21 years , 1880-1900 , while nearly 110 billions were produced in the first 31 years of the present century . Of this 110 billions , over 53 billions were produced in the most recent decade , 1921- 1930 , the production of the previous decade , 1911-1920 , having been only 37 billions , though it included the war period ; that of the decade 1901-1910 was 16 billions . In 1931 , the total value of mineral products of the United States was $ 3,180,000,000 , compared with an average annual value of $ 5,556,000,000 during the previous five - year period , 1926-1930 . The decline in 1931 from that average was therefore 43 per cent . As to the three great groups of mineral commodities , metals fared worst , with a decline of 55 per cent in the value of their production , while the value of fuels declined 39 per cent , as did that of the nonmetals group .

O elevado consumo de energia elétrica no processo de fabricação de ligas de manganês, associado a uma baixa disponibilidade deste recurso no Brasil, justifica a busca por processos mais eficientes que promovam o aumento da competitividade e sustentabilidade do negócio. O presente trabalho teve como objetivo quantificar o consumo de energia elétrica, na produção de ligas de manganês, em função da composição mineralógica da carga de alimentação no forno elétrico a arco. A metodologia adotada consistiu de quatro etapas básicas: revisão bibliográfica da caracterização mineralógica e química dos minérios de manganês utilizados no processo, levantamento do histórico de produção em função do consumo de energia e proporção de minérios na carga metálica de alimentação do reator, tratamento e discussão dos dados e, por último, elaboração do artigo. Os resultados permitiram identificar uma ordem a priorizar na alimentação dos minérios com melhores performance de processo. Os minérios são, na ordem do melhor para o pior, minério de manganês de Carajás (Azul), minério de manganês de Urucum e o minério de manganês Sílico Carbonatado (Morro da Mina).

A study has been made of the microstructure and mechanical properties of splat-cooled aluminum-base gold alloys with gold concentration from 0.25 to 5.0 wt pct. These alloys have been quenched from the liquid state by a torsion-catapult technique, which has made it possible to pepare specimens suitable for mechanical property measwements. From the electron micrographs it has been shown that the solid solubility of gold in aluminum can be extended to 2.5 wt pct (0.35 at. pct) by splat-cooling, while the maximum equilibrium solubility is known to be less than 0.3 wt pct (0.04 at. pct). The very fine grain size (several tenths of a micron), the extended solid solubility, and the fine dispersion of a second phase (AuAl2) contribute concurrently to a substantial strengthening effect. In Al-5 wt pct Au splat-cooled specimens of less than 50 thickness, the yield strength is 17 kg per sq mm or 6 times as large as the strength of bulk specimens. For the Al-1.0 to 2.5 wt pct Au solid solution obtained by splat-cooling, the yield strength reaches 7.5 kg per sq mm after an aging treatment (for 10 hr at 200°C), while it is 3.7 kg per sq mm for the corresponding bulk specimens. A great deal of research has been done in recent years on the structure and the properties of metals and alloys rapidly quenched from the liquid state.' The term "splat-cool" has been used with the meaning of a rapid quenching from the liquid state., The splat-cooling techniques have produced large numbers of new structures, which are expressed in terms of metastable phases,3 concentrated solid solutions,4 amorphous phases,5'6 new phases,7 and so forth. Nearly all previous studies have concentrated on the physical properties; i.e., crystallography, structure, electrical resistivity, magnetism, and so forth, of the splat-cooled metals and alloys. The mechanical strength of splat-cooled metals and alloys has hardly been investigated except for some recent work by MOSS' on A1-V alloys. The principle common to all experimental techniques developed to obtain very rapid quenching rates is based on the heat transfer by conduction. Liquid must be in good thermal contact with a substrate of high heat conductivity. Both of the published devices known as the "gun" and the "piston and anvil" techniques suffer from certain shortcomings. For example, the specimen obtained by the gun technique is very small and flaky, and hence inadequate for mechanical properties measurements. On the other hand if the material is forced to yield a continuous speci- men by the piston and anvil technique, it is probable that some plastic deformation occurs during the quench. A novel method for rapid quenching of a liquid metal or alloy, the "torsion-catapult", has been devised by Roberge and Herman9 at the University of Pennsylvania. In the apparatus the melt is thrown out of a curved furnace by a catapult and impinges on a copper substrate. The apparatus has the advantage of producing a continuous foil which is relatively large in size and of a quality suitable for the measurements of mechanical properties. The quenching rate is estimated to be of the order of l05 to l06 ºC per sec, (comparable to rates achieved by the piston and anvil technique). In selecting an alloy to be studied we were made aware of the fact that gold was believed to be "insoluble" in in and consequently age hardening in the A1-Au system appeared to be interesting. Quite recently Heirnendahl13-15 revealed that the solid solubility, as determined by transmission electron microscopy, was 0.3 wt pct Au at 640°C and 0.25 wt pct Au at 600°C, decreasing with decreasing temperature. In an A1-0.2 pct Au alloy after quenching from a solution treating temperature of 600°C the yield stress was 2 kg per sq mm, and it increased up to 6 kg per sq mm after aging for 1 to 10 hr at 200°C. The precipitation occurred in the form of platelike particles mainly on (100) matrix planes. The intermediate phase n', the equilibrium phase n (AuAl2), and lattice relationships between both precipitates and the matrix were also investigated by electron microscopy. However, each system has its advantages, limits and needs.Furthermore to the soil improvement, using various tools, soil mixing can also be used for applications like cut off and/or retaining wall.The paper will describe some basics of various techniques and different applications of the systems all over the world where the systems provided solutions for different purposes, e.g. simple foundation or liquefaction mitigation.It will describe also the main equipment which will be needed to execute these works under the various conditionsINTRODUCTIONSoil mixing is a methodology where the soil is improved by mixing it with cement, lime or other binders in situ by using a mixing tool. This methodology can be used either as wet mixing or as dry mixing. In the more frequently used wet mixing process, usually a mixture of binder and water, maybe with additives, is injected and mixed with the soil. Depending on the type of soil and binder, by the end of the mixing process, a mortar like mixture is created which hardens during the hydration process. In the dry mixing process, the binder is directly mixed with the soil and reacts directly with the existing soil and water.Mixing tools show several versions, so that they are mixing around either a vertical or horizontal axis, mixing in a trench and maybe are jet assisted. Figure 1 shows a classification done by Bruce 2010. Depending on the technique, improvement depth of up to 80 m can be achieved."

J.-I am so thoroughly convinced of the growing importance of underground work in the production of limestone that I had the author make a detailed study of limestone mining for the Bureau of Mines and prepare a report on the principles of limestone mining. Many limestone operators, long accustomed to open¬pit work, are being forced to mining. About 6 months ago I thought there were twenty-five or thirty underground limestone operations in the United States but the author has been finding new ones until his list now runs nearer sixty. Some of these are very extensive; one at least has 4 ½ miles of underground workings. There is an ever-expanding field for the engineer in the operation of limestone mines and quarries. Some of the larger companies realize the need of skilled engineering advice, but many of the companies regard the engineer as an unnecessary expense. Although almost every metal mine, even those handling only a few hundred tons of ore per month, employs a mining engineer, many limestone operations ten times as large employ no mining engineers. Vertically stirred media mills are a highly effective low-footprint solution for the ultrafine grinding of industrial minerals. This work investigates the effect of media density on flow patterns within the mill. Direct irradiation of a media particle leads to decay through positron emission, consequently forming two anti-parallel gamma rays, which allow for the real time tracking of particle position. Grinding media of the same size, but with a range of specific gravities are followed using this method, and the effect on the flow within the mill is revealed. The technique is seen to be an effective method to highlight the velocity profiles within the mill, as well as the zones where grinding is less efficient ? areas of relatively low velocity and high residence time. The changing media is seen to effect the overall flow patterns within the mill, having consequential effects on the efficiency of the grind.

PREVIOUS to the war, this country depended on Europe for its supply of a number of alloys of great importance in the manufacture of electrical apparatus and equipment. When this source was cut off shortly after the beginning of hostilities and the small stocks in the United States were exhausted, either inferior substitutes had to be used or the manufacture of the apparatus suspended. Since electrical equipment was of primary importance in the prosecution of the war, the substitutes had to be used until the composition and processes of manufacture of the alloys could be determined. Included among these alloys was one generally known as manganin, which is composed chiefly of copper and manganese and which, beside having a low-temperature coefficient of resistance, has a low thermal electromotive force against copper. These qualities make it valuable for the manufacture of electrical instruments and machines in which it is used in the shape of wire, rod, and strip. As a result of these circumstances, an investigation was started to deter mine how manganin could be made on a commercial basis so that a product of uniform quality and the necessary electrical characteristics could be produced. The object was to procure an alloy with temperature coefficient of resistance not greater than T 1 X 10-5 per ° C. and a thermal e.m.f. against copper no greater than that of the imported material. It is characteristic of manganin that the temperature-resistance curve is not a straight line but has a peak, which varies in position with different samples; it is most desirable, however, to have it at a temperature of 25° C. if possible. The coefficients of manganin from all records available ranged from a large negative to a large positive value. The composition as reported by different authorities is given in Table 1. Prof. Matthew A. Hunter, of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, made up a number of small melts of manganin in a graphite crucible and the one that he reported as having the best coefficient gave the following analysis: Copper, 83.6 per cent.; nickel 2.5 per cent.; manganese,-13.6 per cent.; iron, 0.3 per cent. An analysis of a sample of German manganin gave the following: Copper, 82.6 per cent.; nickel, 3.8 per cent.; manganese, 12.8 per cent.; iron 0.7 per cent.

As potash is more necessary to the agricultural economy of the United States now than ever before it is gratifying to find that the virtual stoppage of imports from Germany in late 1939 caused none of the anxious foreboding that gripped American farmers in 1914. For long decades this country, in common with tie rest of the world, depended upon German potash, but today our expanded needs can be mot from domestic sources. The present armed conflict in Europe, like that of 1914, disrupted a world monopoly, but the cartel that in recent years controlled 90 percent of the world output (see fig, 1) was an international syndicate comprising French, Polish, and Spanish as well as German producers and having reported sales agreements covering production in the U. S. S. R. and Palestine. The break-up of these commercial agreements has necessitated readjustments but generates no such alarm as the closing of a single source of supply. In striking contrast to the critical shortage that developed a quarter century ago, no increase in prices has occurred or is anticipated in the domestic market.

The effect of intensive milling on the conversion of microcline ( KAlSi3O8) to potassium chloride (KCl) occurred during the chlorination roasting process for artificial KCl production was investigated. A feldspar ore with 10.89% K2O grade and containing microcline was dry milled by a planetary ball mill for mechanical activation. Milled ore mixed with calcium chloride was roasted at temperatures between 500 and 1000 °C to get the chlorination roasting process. The product was then leached in water to dissolve KCl occurring during the roasting, which will be precipitated from the pregnant leach solution by evaporation. Results showed that potassium recovery from the unmilled ore increased rapidly up to 800 °C, and dramatically decreased at higher temperatures due to the removal of KCl from the furnace by means of evaporation. A potassium recovery of 31.95% was achieved by the unmilled ore, whereas it was 88.43% when 15 min milled ore was roasted at 750 °C. It was concluded that intensive milling caused mechanical activation of microcline to reduce the roasting temperature of the chlorination roasting process.

This paper tells the story of the rapid commercial application of stirred milling technology at Anglo American Platinum?s many Concentrators. The first stirred mill ? a 10 000 litre IsaMillTM; the largest at the time, was commissioned in late 2003. The project development work was presented at SAG 2001. This operation was ?proof of concept? and vindicated the decision to scale up the technology; allowing a rapid and extensive roll-out of mainstream regrind mills as well as several further flotation concentrate regrind mills, over the next six years. Currently 23 stirred mills are in operation with 64 MW of installed drive capacity ? this paper describes the projects? roll-out and the significant results achieved to date. Many operational problems have been solved along the way, some of these will be described. The introduction of the technology has seen a step change in metallurgical results and progressively decreasing operating costs.

Os revestimentos protetores, além de constituírem uma importante forma de prevenção à corrosão metálica, principalmente a atmosférica pode melhorar consideravelmente as propriedades físico-químicas. A eletrodeposição representa um método alternativo para revestimentos de superfície metálica e tem a finalidade de inibir a corrosão, que ocorre na superfície do metal sob a influência do meio ambiente. A liga de Co-W tem gerado considerável interesse devido a sua resistência ao desgaste e a corrosão. No processo de eletrodeposição do tungstênio não podem ser reduzidos completamente ao estado de valência zero em meio aquoso, mas é possível depositá-los na presença dos elementos do grupo do ferro. O presente trabalho propõe avaliar a influência do agente complexante tartarato de sódio no processo de obtenção da liga Co-W. Como ferramenta de otimização foi utilizado à metodologia de superfície de resposta. As medidas eletroquímicas de corrosão foram executadas em uma célula convencional de três eletrodos. Foram utilizadas as mediadas de polarização potenciodinâmicos linear. Foi avaliada a composição química das ligas pelo EDX e a morfologia da superfície com o MEV. O melhor resultado de eletrodeposição para a liga Co-W foi obtido com concentrações sulfato de cobalto 0.2 M, tartarato de sódio 0.3 M e tungstato de sódio 0.05 M e apresentou morfologia nodular com conteúdos de tungstênio de 38% e cobalto de 62% e uma boa resistência a corrosão.

A laboratory experimental research project was conducted to evaluate the use of chlorine for the oxidative destruction of residual ammonia which may remain in ground water after in-situ uranium solution mining operations. The work tested the idea of the injection of high strength calcium hypochlorite solution into the mining zone to convert ammonia to nitrogen gas as a final clean-up process for ammonia removal from the ground water system. The paper details ammonia removal efficiency as a function of chlorine dose, reactant and product material balances, and how the concept may be used as a final ground water restoration process.

The development and use of minerals and mineral fuels are essential to national security and to the maintenance of an expanding economy. As a Nation, we often met these needs but failed to recognize and assess the impact that mining and mineral processing activities have on other natural resources. Currently, the growing demand for energy and minerals is accompanied by an increasing awareness that the provision of these resources must not conflict with society's demand for a clean and habit-able environment. Although present mining and mineral processing activities incorporate, or have under development, technology capable of minimizing environ-mental impacts on land, air, and water, many older operations, particularly in the first half of this century, lacked the technological, social, and environmental insights that exist today. Consequently, a substantial backlog of damaging and potentially damaging conditions remains from such problems as mine subsidence, acid water generation, burning and nonburning waste banks, abandoned surface-mined lands, abandoned underground mine fires, and abandoned mine shafts and oil and gas wells.

Mantener la variable primaria presión en la red de sopladores, compartiendoóptimamente la carga entre los sopladores en la red, mientras que, se minimiza el riesgo de surge, consumo de energía y los disturbios en el arranque y el paro de sopladores individuales, el sistema deberá ser lo suficientemente flexible que no deberá de perturbarse ante la salida frecuente de los convertidores, es decir deberá de mantener las presiones y flujos a la descarga del manifold ante las variaciones en el consumo de aire todo esto con un mínimo de venteos al ambiente."

Iron Mountain Mines, Inc., (IMMI) ore de- posits are located in the southeastern portion of the Klamath Mountains in the West Shasta copper/Zinc Mining District in Shasta County (Figure 1). The original massive sulfide ore deposits totaled 22,895,000 Mt (25 million st). The remaining ore deposits contain 12,875,000 Mt (14,183,000 st) of proven massive sulfides and 2,769,000 Mt (3,050,000 st) of proven gossan deposits. The addition of magnetite deposits and tailings (now marketable) brings the total of proven and probable reserves to 20,433,000 Mt (22,508,000 st). The massive sulfide ore bodies are generating a natural flow of acid mine water which has been slowly leaching minerals out of these deposits. This flow varies in volume, depending on rainfall, and contains variable concentrations of copper, zinc, iron and precious metals. This mine water has been treated for the past 50 years at the mine site to remove copper. The treatment process, utilizing scrap iron precipitation, continues at a production rate of approximately 54,430 Kg (120,000 pounds) of copper precipitate annually.

Rotary kilns are adaptable to many fuels, but this paper deals principally with the use of powdered coal. The observations and conclusions presented are based on rotary kilns used in the manufacture of basic refractories for steel furnaces. Solid fuels are pulverized for two principal reasons: (I) ease of control, and (2) rapidity of combustion. By the use of pulverized coal, the operator can increase or decrease the fuel supply by small increments and with very little time lag between the change of control and the resultant change in the flame. This is extremely important in this type of furnace, as the temperature range for maturing the clinker is very narrow. By fine grinding, it is possible to increase the rate of burning of the coal, thereby liberating great quantities of heat within a small space in a short time. Under given conditions, temperature is a measure of the heat liberated per unit of time. To attain the temperatures of 2950° to 3150ºF., which are encountered in the manufacture of various steel-furnace refractories, it is estimated that it is necessary to liberate 125,000 to 175,000 B.t.u. per cubic foot of the burning zone per hour. The manufacture of dolomitic refractories is a ceramic process and, as is true in most such processes, the material must be subjected to a certain critical temperature for a certain length of time in order to complete the reaction. If the time of reaction is reduced, the temperature must be increased; in other words, if the rate at which the material flows through the hot zone of the kiln is increased, the temperature of the hot zone must be increased to compensate for this shorter exposure to the flame. The kiln proper consists of a sloping, refractory-lined steel tube rotating slowly about its longitudinal axis (0.75 r.p.m.), and is countercurrent in operation in that the raw feed is introduced at the stack end and gradually approaches the zone of highest temperature at the lower end, where the fuel is introduced. Before 1930, the usual method of firing a rotary kiln was to store the coal in the pulverized form and then feed from this storage to the kiln as needed. This proved unsatisfactory and dangerous because of dust explosions and the inability to obtain an even feed to the kiln caused by arching of the coal in storage and flooding of the coal feeders. In later years the practice has been to store the raw coal and grind it as it is needed. Such a layout is indicated in Fig. I. The coal is stored in bins, charged from the top and drawn from the bottom into recording scales and then into some type of unit pulverizer. There are a number of good pulverizers .on the market, each incorporating features that the manufacturer considers outstanding.

Rico is a small town in an old zinc mining district in a mountain valley of southeastern Colorado. Mine waste rock and mill “tailings” remained after over 100 years of mining in the area, leaving associated surface water and groundwater impacts. Atlantic Richfield Company is proposing an innovative approach, which uses lime precipitation and wetland ponds (semi-natural system, also called treatment lagoon in a wetland setting) to treat adit water in the Rico area. Besides using a non-conventional treatment approach, a non-conventional (non-Superfund) regulatory/administrative approach is being proposed. This paper will focus on the water treatment issues and solutions, as well as describing the innovative “watershed” regulatory process.
