Tip post-grouting of bored pile (drilled shaft) foundations refers to a method where cementitious grout is injected beneath the tip of a shaft to improve the overall performance of the constructed foundation. This technique, when performed satisfactorily and in the appropriate ground conditions, enhances axial load-displacement performance by improving the mobilization of pile’s resistance. Potential benefits associated with tip post-grouting include reduced settlement under loading, better alignment of load transfer curves, and improved ground beneath the base of the bored pile. However, to be able to realize the benefits attributed to this method, the design, construction, of both the bored pile and the post-grouting system must meet a minimum level for quality assurance. The various factors affecting the successful installation and performance of a bored pile (e.g., workmanship, base cleanliness, borehole integrity, and concrete placement) have been discussed by numerous practitioners and researchers in the available technical literature. For a conventional (i.e., ungrouted) bored pile, acceptance is based on a combination of visual inspection, material testing, and the results of integrity and/or performance testing of the constructed pile. A properly executed tip post-grouting program can be a relatively comprehensive and complex process, which is typically evaluated throughout the construction process based on the results of prior projects and/or on test pile(s) at the particular site. For tip post- grouting programs, verification procedures and acceptance criteria should be established during and incorporated into the design process to ensure design intent and objectives are achieved. Project specifications should be produced to ensure performance requirements are achieved. This paper will present and discuss factors affecting the successful execution of tip post-grouting, including grouting criteria, instrumentation, reliability and uncertainty with the method and outcome, and verification and acceptance. INTRODUCTION Constructing bored piles (drilled shafts) is increasingly more challenging given the lack of ideal site locations, tight project site confines, difficult or restricted access, greater demands on drilling equipment, and close proximity to adjacent structures. To evaluate the feasibility of bored piles as an appropriate foundation system, a myriad of factors is evaluated during design, including site conditions and constraints, budgeting and scheduling, reliability and risk exposure, presence of and depth to adequate load bearing soils/rock, and the magnitude of the imposed loading. Moreover, updated design codes increased load demand per element, and improved material strengths have led to more complex foundation designs, larger foundation elements, and significant increases in load magnitude. Monopile (monoshaft) foundations have been utilized where one large bored pile is used in lieu of a group of piles connected via a pile cap. In addition, to accommodate the design criteria, site conditions, and imposed loading, the geometry of the bored piles being designed and installed have been as large as 13 feet (4 m) or greater in diameter and to depths in excess of 260 feet (80 m).

"INTRODUCTION Numerous deposits of iron ore are found in Cherokee, Bartow, Floyd, and Polk Counties in northwest Georgia. The deposits are generally small and irregular in shape. The ore is usually referred to as ""brown ore"" and is predominately limonite. The crude or ""bank ore"" has to be washed and concentrated before being shipped.The proximity of the deposits to the Birmingham furnaces and a favorable freight differential permit the operation of many deposits that otherwise would be uneconomical. The district produced 413,468 long tons of brown-ore concentrates, averaging 45.53 percent iron in 1943.The necessity of developing additional iron-ore reserves for the war energeucy to supplement the production of the Birmingham district, prompted the Bureau of Mines to initiate exploration of the more promising northwest Georgia deposits. Thirteen properties in the four counties were explored during the program (fig. 1).HISTORY AND PRODUCTIONSeveral furnaces were operated in the district until the early 1900's, ranging from charcoal furnaces to more modern plants with capacities up to 50 tons of pig iron. No furnaces have operated for about 40 years, the product being shipped to Alabama and Tennessee.Bartow County iron mining is declining, although formerly it was the principal producer of the district. Most of the known merchantable ore deposits have been exhausted. For the past 3 years the Mitchell-Hodge mine has annually produced about 225,000 long tons of concentrates containing 46 to 43 percent iron and at present is the only large producer in Bartow County."

"IntroductionANY PLANT processing mined Athabaska oil •sand for the recovery of oil produces, as a waste material, about one ton of sand for every barrel of oil recovered. A disposal problem of major proportions is thus indicated. For a 100,000-barrel per day plant, provision must be made for moving .about 4,000 tons of sand per hour on a continuous basis to a tailings dump at least several thousand feet removed from the plant site.Of the many known ways of conveying solids on .a large scale, the hydraulic pipeline transfer method is becoming increasingly important because of convenience and economy of operation. It has been in use for many years in mill operations at metalliferrous mines for the disposal of tailings and as such was a natural outgrowth of •hydraulic sluicing (3). Pipeline transportation of mill concentrates has been adopted recently ( 1), wherein high-density solids are moved several miles by hydraulic pipeline. The flotation power of the water suspending the solids may be increased 'by addition of magnetite for the handling of ore in pipelines (8). Low-density solids such as coal have received considerable study for low-cost pipe-lining (2) and a successful operation with coal has been carried out in England with indications of considerable savings over other methods of transportation (9). Dredge operations are based on pipeline transportation for the dredged sol-ids, and the scale of pipelining there .has involved pipe sizes as large as 32-inch (6). However, the tendency has been to regard the pumping of solids in water merely as a simple method of transportation and little consideration has been given in the published literature to study of the most economical modes of operating .a pipeline."

(communication to the Secretary*). —Apropos of the experimental reduction of copper from cuprous chloride by fusion with ground limestone and colre, as described by Messrs. Laist and Frick, and also proposed for use at Chuquicamata, it might be of interest to refer bricfly to the experience at Argentine, Kan., in the smelting of the suboxide of copper (as produced in the Hunt and Douglas process) containing appreciable quantities of chlorides. In the Engineering and Mining Journal of June 10, 1911,I gave some account of what had appeared to be crucial difficulties with the Hunt and Douglas process, and how the filter-press difficulty had been so rapidly overcorne after my discovery of the effect of the sodium salts in the leaching solutions. I also described the effect of the cupola-furnace gases upon the lime rock with which I had replaced the coke in the absorption tower, which apparently showed the presence of considerable chlorine, due to the imperfect conversion of the subchloride to suboxide, as well as that due to the difficulties of washing thoroughly the suboxide with the means provided, and also to the presence of chlorides in the cement copper which was smelted with the suboxide. The fumes from the cupola, when issuing direct into the atmosphere, were very dense and white, except when a hot furnace top caused a reddish tinge due to dust. These fumes had a peculiarly suffocating effect, SO that when they were blown over into the town the population suffered the greatest actual distress, not the mere annoyance which would have been due to a disagreeable odor. The absorption tower had been built at the instance of the city authorities to abate this nuisance, and not with the idea of making any additional metal savings. A serious feature in connection with the Argentine experience with the Hunt and Douglas process was, that it had been implicitly assumed that there could be no metal loss in the Hunt and Douglas process itself, and that all attempts to locate the ruinous copper losses which were accumulating in the metallurgical accounts were devoted to the roasting department. It is possibly unfortunate for metallurgical advance along these particular lines that just about the time of this discovery of this previously unsuspected volatilization loss, in the smelting of the suboxide, the Kansas City company made a contract with the Western Union Telegraph Co. for its supply of copper sulphate and the Hunt and Douglas

INTRODUCTION Much of present fracture toughness testing con¬cerns chevron notched specimens (Newman Jr., 1984) since these, in principle, require neither fatigue precracking nor more registration than failure load to determine fracture toughness. Two such specimens which can be made from diamond drilled rock cores with minimal machining are the Short Rod (Barker, 1977) and the Chevron Edge Notch Round Bar in Bend¬ing or CENRBB Specimen (Ouchterlony, 1980). Even if the precracking property is especially valuable for a material like rock, practice has made the relative advantages of these chevron notched specimens much less apparent (Ouchterlony, 1982; Ouchterlony and Sun, 1983). Enough remains, however, to have the Commission on Testing Methods of the International Society for Rock Mechanics (ISRM) focus on them as standard configurations in a "Suggested Method for Determining Fracture Tough¬ness of Rock Material", which is in preparation. This paper presents material which supports the ISRM effort: 1. An experimental compliance calibration of the Chevron Bend (CENRBB or CB for short) and re¬sulting formulas. 2. Specimen tolerances, evaluation formulas, and loading rate requirements relating to both Short Rod and Chevron Bend Specimens of suggest¬ed standard proportions. 3. Some fracture toughness values obtained with the Chevron Bend Specimen. This material is mainly based on two reports (Ouchterlony, 1984 and 1985). Interpretation of pressure build-up data obtained in the conventional manner has often been difficult because of the deviation from theoretical behavior. Major causes of this deviation have been attributed to damage and afterflow, and to fluid redistribution in the wellbore which, in extreme cases, can result in a pressure hump in the early portion of the build-up curve. Theoretical investigations show that bottom-hole pressure is definitely influenced by phase redistribution in the tubing column during surface shut-in tests, and that the magnitude of the effect is sensitive to the producing gas-oil ratio and stabilized rate of flow in the well. For field experiments a wire-line tubing packer, which can be run in the tubing against a stabilized flow rate, was developed for bottom-hole shut-in tests. By use of this bottom-hole .shut-in method, pressure humps previously observed in surface shut-in tests were completely eliminated and the effects of afterflow minimized. Analog and digital computer studies have been made to obtain theoretical curves for comparison with field curves, and remarkable agreement between the results of bottom-hole shut-in tests and theoretical curves has been obtained. INTRODUCTION Pressure build-up data from shut-in wells have been used by the petroleum industry to determine the permeability of the formation, to estimate wellbore damage, to evaluate the static reservoir pressure and to speculate reservoir volume. Calculation of these factors is based on methods of analysis developed for theoretical systems whose build-up curves have a charac- teristic shape when the wells are shut-in at the sand faCe.1,2,3,5,8,10 However, field curves obtained by conventional surface shut-in methods do not always exhibit this characteristic. Such factors as stratification, rock heterogeneities and irregular reservoir geometry can cause the character of a build-up curve to deviate from that predicted by theory for a simple system. In addition, all field build-up data are affected by the methods utilized in obtaining the measurements. Conventional surface shut-in techniques allow two effects to occur which contribute directly to the manner in which pressure builds up at the sand face. The first, afterflow, has been recognized for some time and methods are available for estimating the magnitude of its effect and for correcting its influence.' The second, phase segregation in the tubing column after shut-in, has been reported only recently and appears to exert a considerable influence on the character of field build-up curves.!' In extreme cases, phase segregation can produce "pressure humps" in the early portion of the build-up curve. Such curves have been considered anomalous and have defied analysis. It is the purpose of this paper to discuss the effect of phase segregation in the tubing string during build-up and to present a bottom-hole shut-in technique for obtaining field build-up data which minimizes the influence of afterflow and eliminates phase segregation effects. It will be shown that reliable reservoir information can be calculated from build-up measurements obtained using this method, even though conventional surface shut-in tests on the same wells yield anomalous data. DISCUSSION OF PHASE REDISTRIBUTION EFFECTS Some of the effects of phase redistribution on pressure build-up curves have been described previously by Matthews and Stegemeier" who have presented evidence that phase segregation is responsible for the pres-

The basic principles of mineral valuation were recognised and propounded at the beginning of this century and have remained virtually unchanged since then. Valuation is seen as a two part process commencing with a technical examination of the mineral property followed by a manipulation of the results of the technical examination in order to determine the monetary value of the project. A thorough and competent technical examination was seen then and remains now as the essential but not sufficient foundation for reliable valuation. All authors stressed the need to maintain the integrity of the data base and to ensure adequate coverage of all relevant aspects. The monetary valuation process through most of the first half of this century was mainly based on the Hoskold two rate method, derived from the formulae for valuing annuities but modified to provide explicitly for recovery of capital. Though the basic principles of valuation have not changed significantly, the means of implementing the components of the technical examination, the styles of deposits being evaluated and the mechanisms of monetary valuation have changed dramatically. Despite all the technological improvements, however, mineral valuations are still as apt to vary from realised performance as at any time in the past. As well, mineral property valuations are now being extended to cover all assets of potential value, including valuation of exploration tenements with or without identified resources. Valuation of exploration tenements will continue to be one of the most difficult and contentious of valuation tasks.

The Leigh Creek Coalfield is owned and operated by the Electricity Trust of South Australia to supply fuel to the Northern Power Station. To supply electricity at lowest cost, a costing and decision process that establishes the role of the Leigh Creek Coalfield in the overall system planning and operation is required. The costing is integrated in that it is based not just on a particular mine plan but on the wider need to supply a particular electrical demand. The detail costing has evolved over time from manual to main-frame computer to microcomputer techniques. Now there is a choice between fast consistent costs and a slower but more detailed and flexible costing.

Unrelieved residual strains can influence the states of stress in rock masses. If cheap, stable structures are to be constructed in Tock in which large pressures are exterted by unrelieved residual strains, the pressures must be either utilized or neutralized. A photoelastic technique has been used to show that the release of residual strains in rocks is influenced by the mechanical properties of anisotropic rock fabrics. The relationships between directions of residual strain release and the attitudes of minor geological structures have been determined. For engineering design purposes it is possible to estimate the principal stress directions in rock containing unrelieved residual strains if the attitudes of such minor geological structures as foliation planes, lineations, and joints are known.INTRODUCTIONQuarry workers have long been aware that near-surface rocks may be highly stressed. In many cases the stresses are too large to be the result of gravitational loads. Dale (1923, pp. 34-35) gives many instances of deformation produced by the violent release of residual strains in quarry rocks. Coates (1963) has described powerful rock bursts and cases of rock deformation underground implying the existence of much larger stresses than are likely to result from present-day gravitational loads. The only explanation is that pressures of up to several thousands of pounds per square inch may be caused by unrelieved residual strains in rock.Instruments have been developed for measuring states of stress in rock masses. At September 2001 the beneficiation plant at BHP Billiton Iron OreÆs Mt Whaleback mine is set to treat 9.5 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) of iron ore, 40 per cent better than original design. This paper describes the steps, decision-making processes and innovations used to increase capacity at minimum cost. The plant was designed in 1979 to operate at 1133 t/h for 6000 hours per annum, treating 6.8 Mtpa. Sufficient suitable contact ore was unavailable and feed was finer than planned. The plant was designed with minimum surge capacity between multiple process units. It had never reached design capacity. In 1993 a study by Fluor Daniel to treat increased tonnage resulted in modifications to improve plant operations. Efforts to expand production by increasing reliability did not achieve the desired capacity. NJ Morrow (Pty) Ltd (NJM) conducted a technical audit in 1996 with process evaluation by Mineral Processors. Replacement of operator interface and PLC logic in 1997 made plant operation and diagnosis easier. Involving operators in logic development enhanced their plant knowledge. Fluor Daniel Simulation developed a simulation model of the process. Mineral Processors and NJM reviewed the model findings, recommended metallurgical improvements and developed preliminary designs and costs. BHP Engineering produced a detailed design with a cost estimate of $A34 million. After analysis and revision of the design, a $A10.4 million upgrade to 8.5 Mtpa was carried out. Detailed modifications to the process units, particularly the HM drum plant, allowed significantly higher capacities and improved metallurgical performance. The target capacity was achieved in June 2001. Further modifications are progressing to treat lower-grade ores.

The paper presents fascinating, in our opinion, observations on mechanism and course of processes occurring during bubble collision with hydrophobic and hydrophilic solid surface. Hydrophobicity of particle surface is a necessary condition for the particle attachment to bubble. We have observed that even in the case of such hydrophobic solid surface as Teflon, the bubble attachment didn't occur at first collision. In distilled water the bubble bounced a few times without attachment. Influence of a-terpineol and n¬pentanol on bubble local and terminal velocity and the phenomena occurring during bubble collisions with hydrophobic and hydrophilic solid surfaces was studied. Bubble collisions with the solid surfaces were monitored and recorded using the high-speed (1182 frames per second) camera. It was found that in distilled water the velocity variations of the "approach-bounce" cycles were identical for Teflon and glass. Four distinct "approach-bounce" cycles were detected both at Teflon and glass surfaces. Moreover, the amplitude and frequency of the velocity variations were identical on collisions with the hydrophobic (polished) and hydrophilic surface. There was no immediate three phase contact formation, with the hydrophobic Teflon surface, what we found really astonishing. Roughness of Teflon surface seems to be important parameter, which affects probability of the bubble attachment as a result of a presence of micro-and/or nano-bubbles at the surface. It was detected that the presence of the micro-bubble affected attachment of the colliding bubble even in distilled water. Presence of a small amount of a-terpineol or n-pentanol affects dramatically the bubble velocity, but their role in mechanism of the bubble attachment needs further study.

this paper presents the results of a study of the slip velocity of gases rising through liquids in vertical tubes, inclined tubes, and vertical annuli. The data were obtained in gas-liquid systems which included combinations of air, propane and natural gas (over 97 per cent methane) with water, lubricating oils, and crude oils. The 214 data points obtained in this study along with 11 data points reported in the literature are incorporated in an empirical correlation which relates the mean slip velocity of gases flowing through liquids with the parameters gas rate, tube size, ratio of liquid viscosity to liquid density, gas density, liquid density, and the angle of the tube from the vertical. The average numerical deviation of the measured slip velocity data from values obtained from the correlation is 9.2 per cent. The average algebraic deviation between measured and Predicted data is 0.31 per cent, an indication that the correlation is a satisfactory representation of the data. The correlation presented in this paper will be useful primarily in the design of subsurface gas-oil separation equipment for increasing the efficiency of oil-well pumping installations. but may perhaps be extended to other situations of gases rising through liquid columns. INTRODUCTION The production of oil by pumping is often complicated by the presence of free and dissolved gas in the oil at bottom-hole conditions. This gas can be drawn into the pump barrel and result in "vapor locking" the pump, thus reducing the efficiency of the pumping operation. Large amounts of free gas may be excluded from the pump by the use of a gas-anchor, which is designed to allow the separation of free gas from the oil before it is drawn into the pump. The design of a suitable gas-anchor depends on a knowledge of the difference between the velocity of the free gas and that of the oil as the oil travels down toward the pump intake. IN the spring of 1930, the question was raised as to the possibility of estimating the depth to which the pyrrhotite-nickel deposit at the Falconbridge mine extended in the earth. This body is 7500 ft. long, it dips at 80° to the north, and it is fairly straight with slight sinuosities. Dr. F. W. Lee suggested that it might be possible to solve the problem by measuring the vertical magnetic intensity, with a good magnetometer, both near the surface of the earth and also at a level a 'few feet higher in the air. The writer regarded this suggestion with some scepticism, but it was decided to put the scheme to a prac¬ tical test. In July, 1930, Dr. Lee, Dr. Keys and I ' the writer, with Mr. Joyce and Mr. Belloc as assist¬ ants, made a firm, light wooden platform (Fig. 1) E measuring 4 by 4 ft. on the top, which was 10 ft. above ground. This platform could be moved easily a few yards by four men, and carried across I country in a wagon or by motor truck. Some iron nails were used in its construction, but we were not able to detect their influence on the - Askania magnetometer. Nevertheless, in future work, the use of iron should be completely avoided. The largest reading, 6.8, is open to suspicion and should be rejected. The depth of the top of the orebody is known by electrical survey, and by actual drilling, to be about 112 to 123 ft., and the covering is sandy glacial drift. Similar readings were taken over a long straight magnetic diabase dike. These also are shown in Table 1. The magnetic vertical intensity is consistently less at the higher level, which is l0 ft. above the lower level.

Though the importance of the engineering rock mass properties such as deformation modulus, cohesion and friction angle is emphasized, the researches on the reliability of these values are rarely performed. By using modified Takagi-Sugeno (TS) fuzzy inference system, a fuzzy model was developed based on the data obtained from domestic tunnel construction sites, and the ability of prediction was compared with the empirical equations conveniently used for estimating these values, which finds that fuzzy model is better than empirical equation. Sufficiently large database, however, is required for training the fuzzy model for more accurate prediction. Obwohl die Wichtigkeit der technischen Eigentümer der Felsenmassen wie zum Beispiel Verformungsmodulus, Bindekraft und Reibungswinkel betont werden, wird die Forschung auf der Zuverläßigkeit dieser Werte selten durchgeführt. Mit modifiziertem Takagi Sugenos (TS) Flaumigenschlußsystem wird die Flaumigenmodelle von den Daten, die von inländischen Tunnelbaustellen erhalten werden, entwickelt. Zum Schätzen dieser Werte ist es viel günstig, Flaumigenmodell zu benutzen, als zu adoptieren die empirische Gleichung für die Fähigkeit der Voraussage. Genügende große Datenbank wird aber zum Ausbilden flaumigen Modells für genauere Voraussage erfordert. Quoique l'importance sur la caractéristique d'ingénierie de la masse de roche comme le module de déformation, la cohésion et l'angle de friction, soit soulignée, la recherche sur la confiance de ces valeurs est rarement effectuée. Avec le système modifié de Takagi-Sugeno(TS) fuzzy inférence, le nouveau modèle fuzzy s'est développé. Après avoir estimé sa valeur, nous pouvons savoir que ce modèle fuzzy, basé sur les données venant du chantier de construction de tunnel national, est mieux que l'équaton empirique. "Silicon and silicon carbide mixing micropowders obtained from the saw cutting industry of polycrystalline silicon ingot is separated by a simple sequential sedimentation. The Zeta potentials of the powders in the aqueous suspension are adjusted by varying the pHs with dilute acid or alkaline reagents. The dispersion and aggregation content of the microparticles is significantly influenced by pHs, and so their settlement velocity in the same hydraulic conditions are quite different, and silicon powders tend to suspend in the upper section of the suspension for its finer size and smaller density under the stronger Zeta potential repulsion force. The original content of the cutting powders with 30%wt silicon are separated into the Si-rich and SiC-rich powder respectively, and 62%wt Si-rich powder can be obtained after 4 times of sedimentation under pH = 8.0, showing the great potential for Si and SiC powder separation and recovery in a cost-effective way.IntroductionWith the fast development of photovoltaic (PV) technology these years, the market demand for the solar-grade high pure silicon material significantly increased, making the silicon recycling and recovery from the wire sawing slurry profitable and attractive[1]. Waste silicon slurry was produced in the multi-wire sawing process of a silicon ingot by using an ethylene glycol-based solution and silicon carbide abrasives as the slicing system. During this slicing process, about 30% of the silicon ingot will become the waste as the fine particles suspended in the slurry, which mainly consists of silicon kerf-loss particles, SiC fragmental particles, tiny iron fragments from the worn sawing wire and ethylene glycol-based solution [2]. The separation of above individual component is usually easy except for Si and SiC fine particles for their quite similar properties. So the biggest challenge for the effective recovery and recycling of silicon particles from the wire sawing slurry actually lies in the mutual separation of silicon and silicon carbide particles."

Air and ground vibration from blasting is influenced by the delay pattern that is used. Wavefronts from blastholes fired in a blasting pattern can combine in certain circumstances to give increased blast vibration levels. A simple computer model has been developed which shows the combined effect of wavefronts from a multi-hole blast and identifies if wavefront reinforcement occurs, and permits delay patterns to be designed which will avoid or reduce wavefront reinforcement.

EVIDENCE has been accumulating in recent years, in part from the work of the Coal Research Laboratory, that coals belong to a family of natural polymers and that even in complex reactions the differences between coals are quantitative and not qualitative. This point of view leads to the expectation that if a series of coals were subjected to a closely controlled set of experimental conditions the results obtained should be related to the chemical analyses of the individual coals. The data accumulated over the past 10 years by the Bureau of Mines in its "Survey of Coke-, Gas-, and By-Product-Making Properties of American Coals," in what has come to be recognized as the Bureau of Mines-American Gas Association (BM-AGA) carbonization assay test,1-12 offer an unusual opportunity to check this conclusion. The present paper reports an analysis of the data on the first go coals and coal blends-including coals numbered I to 55b, inclusive -which have been carbonized according to a standard procedure at intervals of 100°C. from 500° to 1100° in either or both 13 or I8-in. cylindrical retorts." In Table I are given the name of the seam from which the sample was obtained, the analytical data used, and the reference to the original publication of the Bureau of Mines. The coals range in fixed carbon from 46.2 to 79.0 per cent, in volatile matter from 15.4 to 41.3 per cent, in ash; from 2.1 to 15.9 per cent, in moisture from o.8 to 19.7 per cent, and in total sulphur from 0.40 to 4.44 per cent; therefore the entire gamut of bituminous coals is represented. The petrographic nature of the individual coals is not considered in the following analysis, although both "normal" bright coals and splint coals are included in the samples studied. For information on the petrography of the coals and for further information characterizing the coals the original papers should be consulted. Although the coals that are included extend over the whole range of bituminous coals, they do not cover this range entirely adequately. In particular, only 13 of the go coals have moisture contents greater than 3 per cent. This concentration at low moisture values means that the effect of moisture, which is an important factor, cannot be determined with as much certainty as would be desirable. All the coals were not tested at every temperature and in both retort sizes. Only the first 30 coals were tested at 1100°, and only about 50 at the other temperatures, except at 900°, where nearly all of them were included. In the accompanying tables the actual number of observations entering into each correlation is given. In this study equations are given for calculating analyses, yields, and properties of coke and by-products from the coal analyses. To decide whether these equations are satisfactory it is necessary to know the accuracy with which these quantities were measured in the assay tests.
