Volcan Compañía Minera S.A.A. es una empresa minera peruana que inicia sus operaciones en el año 1943. A lo largo de sus 71 años ha logrado posicionarse como la primera productora de plata, plomo y la segunda en zinc a nivel nacional. Durante este periodo la compañía se ha expandido y ha alcanzado excelentes resultados de productividad. Sin embargo, estos resultados no han sido acompañados de indicadores de seguridad favorables. En los últimos 12 años (2000-2011) se han presentado 88 fatalidades, 960 accidentes incapacitantes y 1400 accidentes leves. En el 2012, la dirección de la organización decide realizar un cambio trascendental en la gestión de seguridad, estableciendo como primer objetivo estratégico de la compañía la implementación de una cultura de seguridad de clase mundial para minimizar la frecuencia y la severidad de los accidentes de trabajo. Partiendo de este objetivo en el año 2012 realizó un diagnóstico a nivel corporativo que nos ubicó en una fase de dependencia en relación a la curva de cambio de cultura, tomando como base el concepto de Bradley e identificó la necesidad de efectuar un cambio en dos frentes: Sistema de Gestión SSO y Líderes. Diseñamos una "Estructura Organizacional" en los tres niveles de operaciones, lo que involucró a los líderes y evidenció así el "Liderazgo Visible". El sistema se basó en cuatro pilares fundamentales y aplicó las siguientes herramientas: gestión de riesgos, condiciones, conocimiento y comportamiento. Dentro del pilar condiciones, priorizamos doce riesgos críticos para contener los accidentes mortales e incapacitantes. Los Líderes fueron entrenados en la herramienta de gestión y en los cuatro pilares del sistema. De esta manera se logró el impacto directo en la supervisión y los trabajadores, así como desarrollar las competencias de comunicación, motivación, retroalimentación, confianza y compromiso. El modelo está evolucionando la cultura de seguridad hacia una fase de interdependencia. Hemos reducido los índices de frecuencia en un 55%, severidad en un 92% y accidentabilidad en 96%, sin embargo nuestro logro más importante es la contención de los accidentes mortales a la fecha.

The Alpala porphyry copper-gold deposit is a recent discovery located in the Imbabura Province of northwestern Ecuador. The drilling of seventeen diamond core holes over a 900 m by 400 m area has defined a northwesterly-trending, steeply northeast-dipping dike-stock complex of diorite to quartz diorite that exceeds 1300 m in height. This intrusive complex is hosted by a sequence of andesitic volcaniclastic rocks and lavas. The host-rocks are interpreted to be part of the Paleocene to Late Eocene Macuchi Formation (BGS-CODIGEM, 1997; Cruz, 2007). The best drill intercept to date is 1312 m at 0.67 % Cu and 0.63 g/t Au from 128 m depth in CSD-15-012, which includes 576 m at 1.03 % Cu and 1.19 g/t Au.

Newmont Akyem mine in Ghana is committed with continuous improving results. A new environment where the price varies rapidly requires of better understanding of the deposits and the gold contained in the ore. This better understanding allows the mine planners to quick adjust and fast response to economic changes for gold price. Newmont Akyem Mine has approximately 9.4 million tons of ore in the stockpiles. Mine planers are still using average grade in all stockpiles to do a mine plan. The re-handled material is blended with the prime material coming from the mine.

The degree of saturation in leach facilities and waste dumps can be determined by means of this simple test equipment. A design flow rate is applied to the sample, which is equivalent to irrigation and/or the design storm event. In this sense, the paper point out that the tests were carried out on two different ore sizes from the Pierina Gold mine in Peru. The samples were remolded by using three different densities, simulating different depths within the heap. The ore was subjected to a predefined flow rate, which was equivalent to the design irrigation rate. The flow rate was increased to consider the additional effect of the design storm event during irrigation. In the future, further tests will be performed using different ores samples from operating mines and varying different parameters to help built a database and develop other useful applications from this test, such as general guidelines for maximum irrigation rates for leach facilities.

The AntaKori Project, located in the Hualgayoc mining district, has a NI 43-101 compliant inferred sulphide mineral resource of 295 Mt @ 0.36 g/t Au, 0.48 % Cu and 10 g/t Ag (Wilson, 2012) which is still open in all directions. It is a calcic copper-gold-silver skarn. Mineralization is principally hosted in prograde and retrograde exoskarn in the Cretaceous Chulec and Inca Formations, as well as in quartzites and arkosic sandstones/siltstones of the underlying Farrat Formation. Additional mineralization is hosted by early porphyry intrusions, which are weakly mineralized, as well as locally well-mineralized phases of breccia. The porphyry system responsible for skarn-style mineralization has not been discovered yet.

The paper describes the thiosulfate process for gold leaching like the best non-polluting alternative to cyanide. Thiosulfate is a non-toxic lixiviant and has the ability to complex gold and silver. Copper bearing ores are not harmful for the process and does not suffer the preg-robbing phenomenon like in the case of cyanide. Nevertheless, the process is not fully developed, basically because of the poor understanding of the solution chemistry. Upon thermodynamic considerations and experimental evaluations it was found that the system is unstable; thiosulfate oxidation is unavoidable and ammonia is lost by evaporation. Measures to reduce thiosulfate oxidation include the adequate balance of ammonia and thiosulfate concentrations, adequate pH, additions of sulfite and additions of complexing agents like glycine.

The present project sought alternatives for this material through the Mining Lab Beginnings program, which was developed by Nexa in partnership with Escalab to find solutions for the company's highly complex challenges. Through the program, several solutions were evaluated, with additives for the construction market being the most prominent. Tests were conducted to confirm the efficiency of jarosite in the mixture that composes this material. With successful laboratory tests, the technology was tested on an industrial scale, where it also demonstrated its technical and economic viability. The project is now moving into the operational phase, demonstrating that circular economy is the best solution for disposed tailings.

"The paper point out about on the use of ion exchange resins for adsorption of gold from ammoniacal thiosulfate solutions. In this sense, the gold can be recovered from ammonium thiosulfate solutions with strong base resins. The amount of gold loaded onto the resin in a batch process is a function of gold concentration in solution, amount of resin, volume of solution, copper and competing ions concentration in solution. Thiosulfate concentration in leaching solution has influence on gold loadings onto resins; in contrast, ammonia concentration in solutions has no influence on gold loadings. Gold seems to be loaded onto the resin preferentially over copper - thiosulfatecomplexes and also over thiosulfate ions. Polythionate ions strongly compete with gold and copper thiosulfate complexes for resin sites. This causes reduction on gold and copper recoveries from the leaching solutions. Even more, polythionates are produced in leaching solutions when thiosulfate is oxidized by the action of both copper and oxygen. "

The Yanaquihua gold-bearing vein-fault deposit is associated with a sinistral strike-slip fault system, hosted within granite to granodiorite of the Tiabaya Super Unit of the Coastal batholith. The deposit is located near the northwest striking Cincha-Lluta-Incapuquio (System 11) regional fault system . Mineralization exhibits vertical trends and is primarily controlled by sub-vertical vein-fault structures. Mineralization includes variably abundant quartz, clay minerals, pyrite, calcite.

Antamina is the largest skarn in the world with a resource of ~2,968 Mt averaging 0.89% Cu, 0.77% Zn, 11 g/t Ag and 0.02% Mo (Glencore, 2015). The Antamina skarn surrounds an intrusive complex consisting of 4 porphyry centers comprised of at least 10 phases emplaced between 10.96 ± 0.03 Ma and 10.23 ± 0.07 Ma (U-Pb zircon; this study). Major phases in each porphyry center include: P1 (early), P2 (inter-mineral), and P3 (late). P1 is related to skarn formation; P2 and P3 cross-cut skarns and do not contain skarn alteration. Re-Os molybdenite ages reveal an early mineralization stage in skarns (10.58 ± 0.07 Ma to 10.39 ± 0.05 Ma) and a late stage in P2 and P3 (10.05 ± 0.06 Ma to 9.68 ± 0.05 Ma). Zircon and molybdenite ages generally decrease from NE to SW along the axis of the deposit, and record ~1.5 Ma of magmatic-hydrothermal activity

Water management at a mine site is a critical component for the design of ponds for mine facility operation and mine facility closure. A comparison of pond sizes designed using both a probabilistic and deterministic dynamic water balance model is made. In this sense, the paper point out the probabilistic design of mine-site ponds using a dynamic water management model. The two models both have the capability of using actual operational data and climate inputs to give storage requirements of the ponds Both short-term (60 days) and longterm (many years) designs incorporating a user-selected storm event and a probabilistic or deterministic analysis may be utilized for calculating storage volumes for various mine facilities. Based on these, operational decisions based on actual values or probabilities over time can be made.

Dado el alza de precios en los metales, y la baja del "mining out", se busca una permanente mejora del método de beneficio aplicados a los minerales, a través del uso de la microscopia, como sistema alternativo y actual. Por tal motivo, el propósito del presente estudio refiere un panorama de los análisis microscópicos usados como rutina, así como de otros métodos empleados para llevar a cabo los estudios especiales. Siendo las investigaciones microscópicas de minerales y de los productos de la concentración, las que se constituyen como uno de los medios más disponibles para llegar a este perfeccionamiento, además de servir en los controles de rutina de algunos procesos usuales. En consecuenca, el uso de la microscopía permite ahorrar tiempo en las investigaciones de los minerales en plantas pilotos y reduce los problemas de dichos beneficios, presentados a las minas y concentradoras de la Cerro de Pasco Corporation.

El estudio que se ve reflejado en el presente artículo tuvo como objetivo mantener actualizado el mapa metalogenético del Perú y desarrollar conceptos sobre el origen de los yacimientos minerales, basados en datos geocronométricos, geoquímicos, isotópicos, estratigráficos y estructurales, en la Cordillera Occidental entre Ica y Tacna. La zona de investigación comprende las franjas metalogenéticas IV, V, VIII, IX y X. Se destaca el valor de herramientas tales como la litogeoquímica en la discriminación de pórfidos de Cu (Mo-Au) y se muestra la efectividad de nuevos parámetros de elementos traza en la discriminación y reconocimiento de magmatismo fértil vinculado a pórfidos en el sur del Perú.

El artículo da cuenta de una investigación orientada a demostrar los beneficios del mecanismo de conminución en una cama de partículas, como ocurre en los rodillos de molienda de alta presión (HPGR) o molinos de rodillos de alta presión (HPRM). Se ha investigado el uso de los HPGR de laboratorio para mejorar la eficiencia de separación de los minerales con alto contenido de dolomita, ultra alto contenido de arcilla y alto contenido de arcilla (kaolinita) presentes en una mena de apatita en operaciones subsiguientes «aguas abajo» de beneficio de diferentes minerales de fosfato de origen sedimentario. La investigación incluye estudios de caracterización de minerales de fosfato dolomítico, datos del modelo físico aplicado por PerUsa EnviroMet, Inc. de HPGR para desarrollar información preliminar de conminución; y evaluaciones de HPGR de laboratorio para determinar los parámetros de chancado (velocidades de alimentación; velocidad y separación de los rodillos; torque, presión y energía aplicables).

Dado que los procesos de planificación minera en los depósitos a cielo abierto en Colombia se realizaron a través de herramientas deterministas que excluyen la evaluación de riesgos y las incertidumbres del negocio minero, se plantea modelos alternativos de planificación minera que optimizen las condiciones de competitividad y productividad a través del uso de los algoritmos genéticos y su aplicación a los procesos de planificación minera para explotaciones a cielo abierto. Es decir, se busca realizar una aproximación al planteamiento minero estocástico desde dichos algoritmos genéticos y así mejorar la cadena productiva del proceso minero.
