The work attempts to optimize the process of preparation of modified semi-coke from semi-coke using phosphoric acid (H3P04) as the activating agent using the response surface methodology (RSM). The influences of three major dependent variables, the impregnation ratio, activation time, and activation temperature were assessed on the independent variables yield and the iodine number. The empirical relationship between the dependent and the independent variables were established using the quadratic response surface models, which were utilized to optimize the process parameters. The significance of each of the parameters and interaction among the parameters on the independent variable was assessed based on analysis of variance (ANOVA). The process variables were varied within the range of impregnation ratio (IR) from 1.5 to 4, activation time from 30 to 90 min and activation temperature from 550 'C to 650 'C. The optimized process conditions were estimated to be an IR of 2.29, activation time of 32 min, and an activation temperature of 605°C respectively using the process optimization tool. The BET surface area of modified semi-coke of the optimized sample was estimated to be 915m2/g, with the pore volume of0.71cm3/g, with an average pore diameter of 3.09 nm, with micropore volume fraction being 52.36%. The scanning electron microscope (SEM) images were utilized to visualize the surface pore structure.

A novel process that the combination of vacuum decomposition and acid leaching was proposed. The influence of distillation times, diameter and thickness of the feeding material on the mass fraction of Molybdenum (Mo) and sulphur (S) in residual was investigated. The influence of leaching temperature, leaching time, concentration of hydrochloric acid solution, and ratio of liquid to solid on leaching rates of Mo and S in acid leaching process was also investigated. Due to the fact that SO2 emission happening in the long process of traditional molybdenum metallurgy could be avoided in this novel method, this combination process was environmentally-friendly. Molybdenum powder was obtained through handling molybdenite concentrate under the optimal condition parameters, and the mass fraction of Mo reached 98.29 wt%. So it's feasible to produce molybdenum powder from molybdenite concentrate by using this new method.

In this study, the cobalt oxide precursor was prepared in open-style reactor in the condition of high reactant concentration, and then the precursor was decomposed to obtain the cobalt oxides (Co3O4). The effects of some factors on the cobalt precipitation, the particle size and size distribution, and the micro-morphology were addressed. The factors studied include cobalt concentration, initial pH of solution, temperature and time for the reaction, the charge amount of urea, and the temperature for decomposition. It is determined that the precursor particle is in the chemical composition of Co2(OH)3Cl with fine crystalline. By calcinations under proper conditions, the mono-dispersed cobalt oxide particles were prepared with fine crystalline, about 2 µ m in particle size and regular shape in morphology.

A novel homogenous precipitation method, including microwave heating, solution conductivity controlling and freeze drying, was developed for the preparation of US nanoparticles. The effects of the precipitation conditions on the structure and morphology of CdS particles were discussed individually. It was found that under the experimental conditions the particle sizes were controllable in the range of 14nm to 100nm. Blend-type CdS was obtained from nitrate or sulphate solution and the more stable wurtzite-type US was obtained from chloride solution, which was ascribed to the coordination of C1 and Cd2+ altering the supersaturation of the solution as well as the different growth units and their connecting patterns, In the precipitation process the surface of US nanoparticles were surface modified with CH3CHSCOOH. The results demonstrate that the bifunctional thiols of thioglycolic acid modified the surface through Cd-S coordination bonding and the induced counter ion AOT-SO3 as the balance charge further increased the stability and dispersity of US nanoparticles. This surface-modified US nanoparticles had been used to prepare nonlinear optics and self-assemble catalysts.

According to the unique properties and many applications of nano gold powder, it was prepared from an acid leaching tail solution. The low value residual gold ions were existed in acid leaching tail solution in Mouteh gold mine in Iran with fellow heavy metals as pollutants (FeP2+P, Cu P2+P, and ZnP2+P). Preparation of nano gold particles is achieved by two steps. First, by addition of ammonia as separation step and second using suitable reagents for precipitation/extraction step. Conditions control includes pH, residence time, temperature, agitation, and molar ratio of reducing agents to reagents. The optimum results show that nano gold powder was prepared by temperature of 250 °C, urea to gold molar ratio of 3:1, and reduction time of 20 min. Also, heat treatment improves dispersion of nano sized gold particles. The properties of gold nano powders were evaluated by SEM, A.A, and UV- Vis spectroscopy methods. The size of prepared particles were about 80nm to 90nm.

According to the unique properties and many applications of nano silver powder, it was prepared from acid leaching tail solution. The low value residual gold and silver ions were occurred with fellow heavy metals as pollutants (Fe2+, Cu 2+and Zn2+) in acid leaching tail solution in Mouteh gold mine in Iran. Preparation of nano silver particles was achieved in two steps: first, by addition of ammonia as separation step and second by using different reagents as precipitation and extraction steps. Different controlled parameters were including pH, residence time and temperature, mixing time, and reducing reagents to metals molar ratio. Acid leaching process was carried out with sulphuric and nitric acid via suitable reductants. In order to remove copper, zinc, and silver ions from solution, all of the conditions were controlled. The optimum conditions for preparation of nano silver powder with less than 90 nm were pH 10.5, hydrazine/methanol to silver molar ratio of 3 to 4, and reduction time of 5 min in 45 °C. The results were evaluated via SEM, A.A and UV- Vis spectroscopy analytical methods.

Ni-P-Fe slag is the by-product in the production of phosphate fertilizer in blast furnace with nickel contained serpentine ore as the raw material. It contains nearly 5-7% Ni, 65-7( Fe, and 10-12% P. The slag is very hard to process, it neither dissolves in aqueous ammonia, nor in sulphate acid. In the stiff the technique to treat the slag in order to extract valuable nickel was developed, it essentially consisted of the processes of roasting, leaching, separation and purification. Nickel sulphate was prepared with this method.

This study has been carried out to develop a relatively simple hydrometallurgical process for recovering nickel as nickel sulfate from the spent nickel-cadmium battery residue in which cadmium was removed by vacuum distillation. This residue is composed of 36 % nickel, 20 % iron, and other metals such as cobalt. First, crushing and selective classification were performed to separate iron to produce a nickel-rich product (over 40 % nickel). This product was dissolved in sulfuric acid to obtain a nickel sulfate solution. During the dissolution, nitric acid and air were added to the system to enhance the iron oxidation reaction rate. The free acid remaining in the dissolved solution was neutralized by adding nickel carbonate. Iron was precipitated as iron hydroxide and removed from the solution. The nickel sulfate solution was then fed to a vacuum evaporator to concentrate the solution by evaporation of water and crystallized at around 45°C to obtain nickel sulfate hexahydrate. A recrystallization process could remove other impurities such as zinc and manganese.

Theory & Purpose of Operating Manuals The primary objective of the operating manual is to provide every operator the benefit of a uniform minimum level of training. This training is not only critical to the safety and efficiency of every employee, but also provides a basis for incorporating future operational improvements into standard and emergency procedures. The manual promotes safety through- out and additionally has a special section devoted to safety. The operator should be able to find information on chemical and physical hazards as well as be exposed to safety procedures for such items as motor lockouts and tank entries. The operating manual will usually reference a separate safety manual or incorporate parts of the safety manual. Safety is also promoted through standardized procedures for operation of equipment. Standardized operation is the second most important reason for the writing of manuals. If equipment is started, operated, and shut down in a consistent manner, then operational efficiency should be maximized. If it is not, then the procedure is adjusted until it is. The experience of many can be condensed into set responses for start up, shutdown, steady state operations, and upsets. Implicit with the standardized operation objective is a minimum level of training the operator will receive by thorough familiarization with the manual. The ability to know the contents of the manual is a basic requirement for operator status. The operating manual serves as a basis for a training program both at the start of the new plant and as new operators are hired or promoted into the job. The operating manual is a collection of at least part of the knowledge that "key people" own and will cushion the loss of key personnel for whatever reason. The manual can only fulfill these lofty goals by being a dynamic document. Manuals must change as equipment is modified and superior techniques evolve. The microstructure and mechanical strength variations of chromite pellets preheated and roasted in air were studied systematically. The results show that the chromite (Fe,Mg)(Cr,Fe,Al)2O4 is oxidized to magnesium-rich (Mg,Fe)(Cr,Fe, Al)2O4 and ferrochromium complex oxide (Cr,Fe,Al)2O3 in the preheating process over 500 °C. When the temperature is higher than 1000 °C, the new phase (Cr,Fe, Al)2O3 is formed, which is mainly distributed in the outer layer of a single chromite particle. Inner the particles there are acicular (Cr,Fe,Al)2O3 and unoxidized (Fe,Mg) (Cr,Fe,Al)2O4, which forming an interwoven structure together. The oxidation rates of pellets can reach to superior limits in 20 min. With the temperature increasing from 950 to 1300 °C, the mechanical strength and oxidized rates increase to varying degrees correspondingly.

In present study, partially stabilized zirconia (PSZ) was prepared by CaO doped fused zirconia heated by microwave furnace at the temperature of 1450 oC and holding time of 120 min. The XRD results showed that untreated fused zirconia mainly consists of crystalline compounds of cubic ZrO2 phase; while the roasted one mainly is composed of crystalline compounds of cubic ZrO2 phase and monoclinic ZrO2 phase. It is shown through the optimization of structures of two phases that structure of cubic ZrO2 and monoclinic ZrO2 reject each other, revealing its difficulty in forming coinciding interface and linkage of two phases being of Ca atom. Introduction Due to advantages of zirconia, such as high melting point, chemistry inertia, low heat transmission and so on. Zirconia is always taken as megathermal refractory material[1]. However, in the heating and cooling processes of pure zirconium oxide, martensitic transformation will take place associated with greater shear force and volume change, which severely limits the industrial application of pure zirconia in some areas. Such as: Refractory materials, grinding materials and high temperature insulation materials[2]. Through adding a certain amount of MgO, CaO, or Y2O3 stabilizer, etc.[3,4], the zirconia can change into fully stabilized zirconia, which exists in cubic phase. But this high purity fully stabilized zirconia cracks easily because of thermal stress. Therefore, the thermal shock resistance variation is one of the most important quality indicators of zirconia-based materials. According to the heat treatment, the fully stabilized zirconia can be changed into the partially stabilized zirconia (PSZ)[5], which exists in cubic phase and monoclinic phase and has superior mechanical properties, such as anti-heat, low thermal conductivity, large coefficient of thermal expansion and stability, as well as good wear resistance[6].

Potassium ferrate is an excellent multifunctional reagent for wastewater treatment, but its preparation is crucial. The improved hypochlorite oxidation method was used to prepare potassium ferrate in this study. Iron nitrate, the preferred iron source, was added into hypochlorite solution and then the stabilization agent was added during the purification process of product. The influence of available chlorine content, iron molecular proportion, reaction temperature and reaction time on potassium ferrate preparation was investigated. The optimal condition for potassium ferrate preparation is 15% of available chlorine content , 0.6 of iron molecular proportion , 30i of reaction temperature , 45min of reaction time. The yield of potassium ferrate is about 67% with high purity (> 99%). The structure and performances of the product was characterized by XRD, EDX, SEM, TG and IR and the results show that the prepared product is consistent with the properties of potassium ferrate(VI).

The present work is concerned with selective dissolution of niobium from Gabal El Faliq concentrate sample by using fluoridefree process. The chemical analysis of concentrate sample revealed the presence of high amount of ZrO2, Nb2O5, Re2O3, and HfO2 assaying 33.6, 1.99, 4.8, and 1.2%w/w respectively. Several economic minerals including zircon, samarskite, fergusonite, and xenotimewere recorded in the studied sample. About 98%of Nb content was selectively dissolved at the optimumconditions of 1:2 concentrate sample: KOH weight ratio, 2.5 h fusion time, and fusion temperature of 550 °C. Organic solvent extraction process using Aliquat 336S in xylene was effectively used for preparing pure Nb2O5 (98.95%).

The preparation of high-purity zirconyl compounds was studied in order to develop an economical process for obtaining pure zirconium via the caustic fritting of zircon sand. The direct dissolution of caustic frits with concentrated hydrochloric or nitric acid at 80c. followed by the addition of a small amount of acidified gelatin, gave high-purity zirconyl chloride or nitrate. The addition of a small amount of gelatin caused a mutual flocculation between colloidal silica and gelatin. The precipitation of this silica floc markedly lowered the content of silica in the product. The silica content of the compounds (or solution) so produced, generally less than 100 ppm., was sufficiently low for tributyl phosphate extraction for nitrate solutions. It was found that the degree of purification de-pends not only on the procedures employed but also on the nature of the frit itself. Silica was more effectively eliminated from the fritted product produced at higher temperatures, and less silica was present in the com-pound prepared from the frit produced in a shorter heating time. The amount of slag produced from a typical ferronickel smelting pro- cess is 4 to 6 times that of the metal product, and handling this slag is a huge challenge to the ferronickel industry. The feasibility of a technological route for preparing refractory materials from a ferronickel slag was verified in this study. Based on the thermodynamics analysis, the effect of the sintering temperature on the properties of refractory material from the slag was studied in the presence of magnesia. The results of thermodynamics calculation showed that the reaction of MgO with SiO generated forsterite and enstatite, whereas the reaction between 2 MgO and Fe O /Al O produced corresponding magnesia spinels. The experi- 2 3 2 3 mental results showed that a refractory material with refractoriness of 1580 °C, bulk density of 2.88 g/cm3, compressive strength of 106.9 MPa, and apparent porosityof 5.8%was obtained under the conditions ofmagnesia addition of 15 wt %, sintering temperature of 1350 °C and sintering time of 3 h. With increasing sintering temperature, the bulk density and the compressive strength of refractory material increased but the apparent porosity decreased, mainly attributed to the formation of the liquid phase which promoted the densification of the refractory material. "TiO2 has been loaded on cordierite porous ceramic to prepare the SCR catalyst carrier by using both APCVD and sol-gel technology. In APCVD method, TiC14 and O 2 were used as reaction precursor. TiC14 was gasified by using N2 as carrier gas which was controlled to 500sccm. Its reaction temperature and reaction time were limited to 773K and 30min respectively. The physical properties, SEM and SEM-EDX of the TiO2-cordierite carrier and the properties of SCR catalysts prepared by these carriers have been tested. The tests showed that TiO2 loaded by APCVD method were of graininess shape and even accumulation. The loading rate of TiO2 and the specific area of carrier sample were increased 114% and 21 % respectively comparing with sol-gel technology. In the result of sol-gel method, the maximal difference of Ti content was 66.92%, while the result of APCVD method was 18.89%. It demonstrated that TiO2 was uniformly attached with the cordierite ceramic by using APCVD method, which would ensure more active ingredients well loaded on the Ti02-cordierite carrier. This difference made the denitrification ratio of catalyst prepared by APCVD method was 8.1 % higher than that of catalyst prepared by sol-gel method.IntroductionIn recent years, the emission of NOx, which were caused by coal-fired power plants, has gotten more and more attention. SCR (selective catalytic reduction) is the most effective technology to DeNOx [ll. The core technology of it is the catalyst. The SCR catalyst usually uses Ti02 as the carrier, and V2O 5 as the active component [2, 3] . However, the thermal stability and mechanical properties of TiO2 carrier are unstable, which would influence the performances of the catalyst. The commercial catalyst generally uses WO3 or MoO3 to promote its heat stability at present [4-7] Besides, TiO2 is expensive. Compared with TiO2, the cordierite is of good thermal stability and lower price. So loading Ti02 on cordierite porous ceramic as carrier to produce SCR catalyst is of good prospects [S, 91 • Currently, TiO2 is usually loaded on cordierite by the sol-gel method. But some research has shown that the sol-gel method easily reduced the loading performances of TiO2, such as distribution, combination, etc. APCVD (atmospheric pressure chemical vapor deposition) has many advantages to preparing TiO2 films, such as high bonding strength, fast reaction rate and so on [l0-13l_ In this paper, TiO2 has been loaded on cordierite porous ceramic to prepare the SCR catalyst carrier by using both APCVD and sol-gel methods. The properties of the carriers prepared by the two processes have also been compared."

"Phase change materials are widely used in efficient utilization of energy and new energy technology. Especially, more attention has been paid to composite phase material, which is applied on architectural energy-saving and efficient working fluid. In this paper, stearic acid-silicon dioxide composite material was prepared by sol-gel process from tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) and stearic acid (SA). The material was investigated by Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and Differential scanning calorimeter (DSC). The FE-SEM results show that 3D-grids of silicon dioxide were formed clearly and SA was encapsulated in the silicon dioxide shell. The FT-IR results show that there were no chemical reactions between silicon dioxide and SA, which is the chemical property of the composite material, is stable. The DSC results show that the composite phase change material has favorable heat capacity. This material is expected to be used to make a cooling working fluid.1. IntroductionEnergy thermal storage becomes increasingly prominent issue in recent years, because thermal storage has been used in many aspects, for example, it can be added into building materials to improve heat conditioning. Another potential application of thermal storage materials is that the intermittent waste heat can be collected and recycled effectively by using the thermal storage facility. Thus, energy thermal storage plays a significant role in conserving available energy and improving its utilization [1]. Energy thermal storage includes sensible heat storage and latent heat storage. The latent heat storage has great heat density with a constant temperature during the phase change process [2-5]. Large quantities of latent heat storage will be absorbed and released when phase change takes place. Based on the former researches, some phase change material (PCM), such as fatty acid and paraffin waxes, has been proved to have high latent heat storage capacity and appropriate thermal properties [5-6]. However, using the PCM in energy storage systems directly is restricted, e.g. some properties of organic PCM, like form-stability and thermal conductivity, are not good enough to use. Meanwhile, almost all the inorganic PCMs are corrosive and most materials may cause sub cooling and segregation [7-9].The other problem is that the leakage when the temperature reaches the phase change point. Therefore, encapsulated composite phase change material (CPCM) emerged in order to solve the problem of leaking out, minimize the sub cooling and prevent phase segregation. [10-13] However, the easy flammability of fatty acid also has hindered the development of PCM. Accordingly, it has been found out that silicon compounds are environmentally friendly promising substitutes for halogen-containing flame retardants. Especially, silsesquioxanes are excellent in the flame retardancy. So CPCM can be encapsulated with SiO2 acting supporting material."

"In recent years, the efficient cementation of mine tailings is a new way to manage mine solid wastes. The traditional cement materials have a slow setting time, large dosage and poor cementation strength for fine aggregate such as mine tailings. Therefore, the preparation of new type cementitious materials for the cementation of fine tailings has great potential in the treatment of mine waste solids. The paper mainly focuses on exploring the critical factors affecting the cementing performance of granulated blast furnace slag and its performance in the cementation of fine aggregate. Results indicate that the fineness of slag has a significant effect on its cementitious activity and Portland cement clinker has a better stimulation effect on the cementitious properties of slag than lime. And, anhydrite has a better early stimulation effect on the cementitious properties of alkali-activated slag compared to semi-hydrated gypsum and dihydrate gypsum. According to a series of tests on the cementation of fine iron tailings, the optimal ratio of slag, Portland cement clinker and anhydrite is determined as 60:30:10. Compared with P.O 42.5 ordinary Portland cement, the new slag based cementitious material shows much better cementing performance on fine tailings sample. Under the dosage of 12%, the compressive strength of fine tailings mortar using slag-based cementitious material in 3 curing days is increased to 168% that of using P.O 42.5 ordinary Portland cement, while the compressive strength in 28 days curing period is increased to 194%."

In this study, the method of chemical co-precipitation?reduction?diffusion was developed for the preparation of magnetic SmCo5 alloy. In the chemical co-precipitation process, the effects of solution pH, the reactant concentration, the dispersant on the process were investigated. The optimum conditions of the process were determined, and the SmCo5 alloy oxide precursor particles with fine crystalline structure, narrow size distribution was obtained. Then, by reduction-diffusion treatment of the precursor particles, the SmCo5 alloy with high quality was produced. It is anticipated that the co-precipitation-reduction-diffusion is a novel method available for SmCo5 alloy production.

Al-Si alloy, a precursor of solar grade silicon, was prepared by direct electrolysis in cryolite molten salt at 950 oC using high purity silica as material, liquid aluminum as the cathode and high purity graphite as the anode. The electrochemical behavior of Si(IV) ion was investigated using cyclic voltammetry method. The electrolysis products were characterized by XRD, SEM/EDS and ICP. The results indicate that the reduction process of Si(IV) on tungsten electrode is a two-step process and there is about 0.6 V gap between the two steps. The contents of boron and phosphorus in the aluminum-silicon alloy are 3 ppmw and 8 ppmw, which will make the directional solidification purification effectively and reduce the cost of preparation solar grade silicon from metallurgical grade silicon.
